FreeStyle 2.0 Current Status and Release InformationPosted by XanTium | April 20 10:37 EST | News Category: Xbox360 |

From Helldoc's Blog:
You guys keep asking about an eta : we have no ETA and probably wont have. Working on FSD is a hobby for all the team, so we never know much time we can put on it.
Current Status : * Its pretty hard to give an overall status... Media player is still not in there (JQE is working on this, but still not committed the code) * Recent games list still need to be totally redone. Some skin work need to be done to have a dynamic number of tabs. We still need to experiment and try to figure out how to get stock dash recently played list. If we cant do easily we'll probably just add a last time played datetime to each game and use this. * Favorites : Still need to be 100% rewritten. * Game type switching : Still need to be 100% rewritten * Copy DVD : Still need to adapt FSD 1.XX code and properly clean. Currently not working. * File Manager : Working but we want to change the way it behave (should be back to drive list instead of having to use shoulder button to switch drive) * Nand flasher : working great * About : Still need some work but will be quick. * Game List : Games are listed but not sorted. Everything still need to be plugged in (boxart, game description, preview). I think game renaming feature broke in some previous rev, will need to fix it. * Built-In Indexer : Need to add screenshots and preview movie with proper settings. * HTTP : Still having some freeze issue and need to tweakt it a bit, otherwise its working great. Need to add priorites to the download queue. * XeX extraction : Working great. * Skin Edit Mode : Working great. * Skin customisation : Working great. * RSS Reader : Still need some work. * Internal XML Reader : We're looking to change it to a SAX implementation, still need to be done. * Autoupdater : First tests are working great but still need some intensive testing. * Multilanguage : No work has been done on this yet.
Theres still lots of "Surprise" we have to experiment with and see what can be done than may imply changes in previous listed stuff.

The Zet
-
Sweet! Looks like its coming along pretty amazing right now judging by the videos. Cant wait!
-
Just had my machine xbrebooted the other day.
I'm mega happy about this
The scene's really coming to life now. Feels like the PSP back in the day.
Thankyou very much to a certain dude from Wishaw here who did all the dirty work to allow me homebrew awesomeness
-
Great work guys, keep it up! Saw the vid on the FSD blog, great music choice
Dash itself looks fantastic, really professionally done, lots of options to play with.

WOW this seems like an incredible update!
Very ambitious to bring all these new features in one update
Looking fantastic, cant wait for the release
-
What a monumental improvement, it's like a whole new dashboard. Great work guys.
-
wow 2.0 seems like a great release...love the skinning feature
-
This really is looking great so far. Me, like everyone else is just dying for the newest release! 1.2 just seems so lame compared to all these screens and details that have been posted.
-
This is going to be so nice!!!!!!
-
Very Nice Thanks for your work on this...
Seems you guys are trying to do too much at once...Figured main features would be priority then all the other goodies would come later...
Media player is still not in there -Dont really need now-How ever a very nice feature
RSS Reader -nice but not really needed right away
Internal XML Reader -Not needed right away.
.......
A solid stable dash with main features Temps ,Favorites,Name changing etc all stable would be nice .Then start the little things...
This is just "MY OPINION" And does not mean shit as all I have done to give back is preview .Wmv's..
I just think the project is getting to big too fast and when that happens people start to get tired of working on it and or lose interest..
Hope this dash does turn out to be the main alt.dash ....
Thanks again for putting your own time in on this project....

Taken from the FSD irc channel topic.

Cant wait for next Decebuary!! My favorite month next to Neverary.
jokes. The dash is looking good. We should have some nice skins to hold every one over until 2.0's release.
MaesterRowen is kicking major but on his NXE upgrade. Cant call it a port because NXE sucks in comparison.
Helldoc is doing a great job of keeping everyone updated more then once a week. If you're interested in the dash it's not a bad idea to bookmark the links.

Awesome can't wait

First of all, the dashboard video on the website looks awesome team fsd, great job!! i think autoupdater, builtin indexer and flash tool are some of the features i'll value the most.
HellDoc was talking about in his blog, regarding autoupdater:

My goal is to have 2 "update channels" 1 for svn and one for final.
this would be a great plus. we could increase the number of people testing out fsd and reporting bugs. maybe have them both installed? or one in hdd, other in usb flash?

Great work guys!
btw, what exactly is the media player function?
Does it use the natives Dash mediaplayer with its limitations or is it a homebrew coded player (like a mplayer port) that will support many different codecs and containers?

Porting any media player is a huge project.. So I am not hopeful
-
i really hope the media player can handle mkv file
-
i don't think they can do a mplayer port that fast

but yes, when do u say "media player" what do u mean? wmv and mp4?
-
sweet keep it up

I checked the status on this project and i am thoroughly impressed with the progress. A lot of people who complained about XBMC not having a group working on a port can finally quiet down a little. This looks much better from a visual standpoint than XBMC ever has on PC or xbox. Keep workin on your hobby it looks like you enjoy it a lot , and we certainly appreciate the skills we don't have.
-
Awesome work gentlemen, keep it up!
-
It's a Master Piece
. Just Like XBMC was on xbox1 .
-
Hate to be that guy but seriously if they are going to wait to release 2.0 when all those features are done then we are in for a long haul. They seem to be forgeting making a stable release is more important than a ton of features that could easily be added as time goes by.
I would be willing to bet they will eventually jus release what they have once the stress of trying to much gets to them.
"This looks much better from a visual standpoint than XBMC ever has on PC or xbox. "
In all respect this group doesnt even com close to the xbmc team. Proof is in how they handled their releases and support and the many other things the xbmc group did correctly when handling such a large project. This guy has obviously never even had xbmc for original box. There options for custumizing is way more advanced then even the new features in the freestyle nxe dash.
Want advice??? Release stable dash then release new options ONE by ONE instead of trying them all at once your only wasting time and effort.
-
Great now we are comparing the development from XBMC that took a few years of development with the development of FSD
This comparison ist just full of fail because even XBMC started small.

There are some features that would be really awesome if implemented.
1) USB Media Support. Right now with FSD1.2, if I'm on the latest 9199 dash update, I can use one HDD (16gb for profiles etc, the rest for FSD, games, etc) and it works fine. It would be cool tho if when you connect via FTP if you could browse the 16gb and add and remove stuff. As it stands now, you can only do this buy connecting the HDD to a PC and opening it with something like XTAF.
2) Since the xbox will be going on the internet for box art, etc, why not take it a step further and let it get title updates? There are plently of databases out there:

You should know that posting links to pirated DLC is against XS rules, so why do it?
Then you have the owner of the site saying how cool it would be to illegally download XBLA games from his\her site... common.
Back on topic.
Thanks guys for developing this great dash, I really like 1.20 and can't wait for 2.0! Thats probably gonna be my new dash over NXE
-
blah ...
are this the freestyle dash forum? i thought, cause the name of the topic sounds like this ...
but the last threads are only "blah" and a lot of whining
maybe we could go b2t here ..
so, freestylers, i'm missing updates out there. nothing new to see on the fsdteam website
are there any progresses?
-
Hey if you guys wanna help speed up the progress of freestyle dash you should go to Helldocs blog and donate a few bucks. He is just trying to raise enough money to buy an XDK so the team can properly debug the dash.
Here is the link to his blog:

How much does an XDK go for these days? Can you do no debugging at all on a JTAG?
Anything to speed up 2.0 being released can only be a good thing!
I am amazed at the task the FSD team have taken on and how well they are doing, but im worried it'll be AGES before they have that many changes implemented
I have no idea what the going rate is but from what ive seen 850 sounds about right.
I agree that they seem to want to add so many features that it may be a couple months still before we see another release. I am hoping that if they do get an SDK it will greatly speed up the process. Thats why everyone should at least donate like $5, I dont think thats asking to much.

honestly I am still having a blast with freestyle 1.20 so let thie team take their time. As far as xbmc I think that was a revolutionary step of software for consoles and I feel in many ways that the xbox 360 dashboard is a direct (albeit limited) response to it. Does anyone remember the green screens on XB1? With that said I feel that considering JTAG software is a relatively new thing the progress on Freestlye has been excellant. Yes there were bugs and problems at first what new soft doesnt have some? Yeah he is going alot at a time instead of stable with frequent minor updates...who cares I think he said it is his hobby..such a talented person good for him let him do it his way..at least he shares with the world instead of trolling it away...
Let's not forget that it is a group of people working on it, not just one person...

XexMenu has an FTP server you can ftp to your box with user & pass xbox and then browe && do stuff on all connected drives..

According to the SVN Log the basic video player and RSS are working
Its projects like this that make me enjoy messing with my 360 almost as much as XBMC did on my original xbox
-
It only remains have support SRT subtitles!

Yeah but I think he means explore the new 9199 USB formatted drives. Can xexmenu explore those?
