Sweet, upload was pretty slack on 1.0, but still this is one of the most useful homebrews you can get on 360 so far and I use it alot, thanks XeDev team.

Still waiting for it to be uploaded to xbins tho so I can try it out.

Right on!

Since it supports HFS+ that means we can have files larger than 4gb now correct? What is the limit on HFS+ anyways? Is it possible to load a game from the ISO instead of extracting it first now? I have my backups on a HD in case anything happens, extracting takes awhile and I'm not so worried about file size, so I was wondering if this is possible/being worked on.

Do you have your games installed on hdd1:/games?
Using XeXMenu v1.0, the program would freeze if I had my games there (I have no USB devices connected).  Since I only had 1 game installed there (and 2 via NXE) i went ahead and reformatted the drive via NXE, reinstalled XeXMenu, and then made a new directory called hdd1:/tmp to store my games.  I have to manually launch each game.

What is the best way to update from v1.0

I tried running v1.0 and FTP'ing but it wont let me delete the old XeXMenu while i am using it.

I also tried using IngeniouX but the FTP doesn't seem to work for me with that program.

When i put XeXMenu version 1 on i had to take the hard drive apart and connect it directly to my PC. I don't really want to have to do that again if there is a better way.

Thanks

Yep, I had this problem with v1.0 also.

If I installed any game on to the 360's own HDD, I would end up with a dead box, freeze upon relaunching the XeXMenu, if the game was inside the Games directory.

I really hope they fixed this bug. -- I have to test it out later and see!

If you have a memory card you can move the old XeXMenu on to there via the 360 dash, run it, and move the new XeXMenu to the HDD.

If not, burn XeXMenu to CD and use that to move/delete the appropriate versions.

The way I get it onto the system the first time, is take any version and burn it onto a CDR (I use a CDRW) that way, I can then launch it from the 360 dashboard, and then just use itself to copy it over to the HDD works great. -- And if I don't want to reburn the CDR, I just put the new version on a usb stick, launch the old one from the CDR, and then browse to the USB stick, and copy it over the HDD.

Or if you got one working already on your HDD and you want to update it, launch the old one, then use it to launch the new one on the USB stick, then use that one to copy it over the old existing one on the HDD.

Or how about this: put v1.1 on a usb stick/drive (both versions).  Load v1.0 through the NXE.  launch v1.1 on the usb stick (XEX).  Delete the live v1.0 from the xbox.  copy the new v1.1 live version to the xbox.  Reboot and you shoudl be good to go!

Played Darksiders for a half hour, GPU temp was 49.9C after getting back into XeXMenu...  It has been idling in XeXmenu for 10 minutes now and GPU is down to 43.0C.  it would climb to 53-55C while idling in XeXMenu 1.0.

Good stuff, thanks for the update!

For some reason I can't get this to show up in the Games menu. I haven't had a problem with any other XexMenu/Loader before.
The old one shows up fine, but when I delete it and move the new version onto the HDD it won't appear.

It works if I run it manually from USB or burning to disc.

effbee05...wow speeds.

I guess this is our new Evox and is right on time and im sooooo used to it.  I expected nothing less after the exploit and wow the homebrews crooking now.

Im sure theres some people drinking serious coffee and doing serious blow trying to get video/media support rocking.   My only advice is now is a good time to watch a season of 24 in the background and i hope you don't have wives or jobs.

For problems with getting loaders to update, besides not trying to overwrite the loader you have loaded, i can't say anything but good things about having a copy on a mem card.  Its super handy and super basic.  Also, maybe delete the code999 dir and see if that flushes anything.  Be able to get back "in".

Besides a reboot i'm not sure if i didn't already help.

effbee05... thats still dang fast.  Way better than Xbox1.  Now to break the NTFS limit for mkv's.  How about a partition 4?

Why even worry about NTFS?  Media support is much more pressing as well as HTTP support.

FAT32 is fine.  Would NTFS be nice?  Yes, but there is a bunch of stuff I want more.

Well I fixed it (somehow)
Got the latest version from Xbins, deleted any CODE9999 and related files/folders on mem card and hard drive. Ran 1.1 XEX from a disc, used it to copy 1.1 LIVE from USB to HDD.

Turned off 360, unplugged power cable for 10 seconds. Booted and there it was in the Games menu.

I don't know what program you're using, but MB/s typically refers to megabit, not megabyte. As that's given, that transfer is moving at about 2.5 megabytes a second.

I've seen it both ways--although you are correct according to IEEE (of which I am a member anyway and as such I should probably try to make sure I don't stick my foot in my mouth when referencing their technical terms). This confusion is an obvious problem which arises from using poorly-chosen abbreviations. Either way, having 20MB/s is impossible without having a port which can transfer at speeds higher than 100mbps--which the 360 doesn't have.

Now, using my super hero skills of logical deduction, I will venture to guess that his FTP client uses MB/s as an abbreviation for megabit.  gift.gif

I had the same problem. In XeXMenu_v1.1-LIVE.rar, the folder is named CODE9999. It should be C0DE9999. Change the "O" to a "0"

I was stuck there for about an hour since I put it on a new HDD and didn't have the C0DE9999 folder from before.

He would be using FileZilla - it shows Megabit as Mb & Megabyte as MB.

The most likely cause is that FileZilla is actually showing incorrect values - I use it, and while monitoring network transfer rates elsewhere, FileZilla often spikes the transfer speed even though it isn't actually transferring that fast.

Any directions for applying a skin? I have deleted the live version and edited the config.txt file to point to XEXBMC but it still just gives me the classic skin.

Doh, nevermind....figured it out. Have to change it with the d-pad on the configuration screen.  LOL  took me over an hour to figure this out I guess it's time for bed.

Make a folder named GAMES on the root of your xbox HDD or on the root of a USB HDD (must be a FAT32 or HFS+ partition). Make a new folder named the game you have in the drive within that folder. Browse to that folder in xexmenu and hit Y, then select Copy DVD. When it is finished you will be able to see it in xexmenu. I recommend deleting the $SystemUpdate folder after copying the game especially new ones like mass effect 2 because it will mess up your jtag if you choose yes on the update.

If you want to be able to launch these from the xbox dashboard as well, you can use the Quickboot tool to make shortcuts.

Glad to help. In the XBReboot readme it says you can replace your 20 gb hdd with any laptop SATA hard drive. I haven't tried it myself, and I don't know the size limitations, but you might want to look into that. You can just take apart the case and pop the new one in (I think).

Mine did that too and does it with a few other games. My workaround was to just ftp the game to my same USB HDD that my games are on. Or you could try copying files or folders one by one, but that would take forever since there's no multiple select yet.

It's not perfect yet, but thanks to the devs for making a great app that keeps getting better

What do you use to extract the .iso on your PC, so that you can FTP it over?

Never done that because I don't download or make iso's. I meant that I pulled the game files from the xbox via ftp. There's probably a tool in the tools section on xbox-scene.com or eurasia.nu

Try XBox Image Browser.  Worked for me.

Edit: hmm..just tried to install COD MW2 and it installed the first couple of files and then stopped...any ideas?

Yeah what I do when that happens is follow this order:

Have open the destination folder ie. USB0/GAMES/FATONE/

Then select COPY DVD from the Y menu

Let the draw open and put the disc in

Hit the eject button to close the disc draw

Wait 5 secs then select CONFIRM.

Its a timing thing with the spinning of the DVD, you cant do it too fast or too slow, just about 5 seconds after closing the drive.

If it still doesnt work, it probably is having trouble reading the disc due to marks/scratches.

So since i didn't take off that resistor that makes the efuses blow, for every new game all i have to do is delete the system update folder? And it will run fine?

I thought XBR uses virtual fuses and I didn't think there was an update beyond 8955 yet, which should be what XBR is reporting. Therefore, there should be no update done, right?

I can confirm the one in Mass Effect is just avatar support, but in the future it would be a good idea to delete system updates if XBR hasn't caught up with it.

Xexmenu 1.0 and 1.1 are buggy with certain hard drives.  Renamed "Games" folder and it'll boot without the black screen but I have to load the games manually.  My Western Digital passport works fine but my iomega got the back screen.  Hope it's fix in the next version.

Yep, I had this problem with v1.0 also.

If I installed any game on to the 360's own HDD, I would end up with a dead box, freeze upon relaunching the XeXMenu, if the game was inside the Games directory.

I really hope they fixed this bug. -- I have to test it out later and see!

I have all of my Games but 1 installed to the 360's own hdd in a Games folder in the root of the hdd and have never had it freeze and I have booted it many times with and without usb devices.

Have yo guys updated to the new version of XBReboot ?

what model of hdd do you have installed?  I'm using a Seagate 500gb, formatted with nxe.  v1.0 would black screen on launch if I used the hdd1:/games directory.

I am still having the issue of it not copying the games at all when i choose copy disk or whatever.
Does it matter if its an original or backup?
Do you still need to mod the dvd firmware to play and load from backup disks with XBR/XeXmenu?

While I'm at it  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)
Is it recommended to desolder the resistor to prevent updates blowing the e-fuse/overwriting portions of the XBR modded NAND memory?

Thanks all.

Edit: I am using the newest XBR with XeXMenu 1.1 and using my stock Xbox360 60gb hard drive.  I am loading XeXmenu from NXE (LIVE Container)
Edit2: Just noticed a previous post about timing, i will try that method and repost my resuts for copying disk.

With the resistor removed the nand will be "over"written, but your efuse wont be blown. You then have to write back your backup-nand or xbr. So remove it.

Is there a way to change the username/password for FTP? That feature (and, possibly, the adding of SFTP) would be appreciated by security-paranoid people like myself.

I'm not, but I'm on a public network at my University and would like to keep things secure.

*bows*
Thank you, sir.

For the time being why dont you just direct connect a crossover cable from xbox to PC (second NIC) then assign both manual IP's within the same subnet with Gateways pointing at the other devices IP?  That would be completely localized and a great solution for the time being.

I don't have an ample supply of crossover cables at the moment (read: zero), so that's not plausible. It's not a huge deal as I don't anticipate someone hacking into my Xbox's memory in the near future, but it would be a nice feature to have available at some point.

In the XEX version there is file called ftpd.conf. It contains this information:

CODE
BindPort 21
CommandTimeout 300
ConnectTimeout 15
MaxConnections 20

    Password "xbox"

    Password "flash"

Dont know does changing them work, have not tried my self.

Exactly what I find, if I have a usb with xexmenu on it as well, no probs or if I rename the games folder to anything other than \Games and load manually.

What model are you guys getting this problem on, I have no worries on falcon but jasper BB has the issue with me.

Ok....... just found out it could be the type of hdd so will look into that.

Freezes when launching Left 4 Dead 2.  I see a checkered pink and black screen where the checkers are around 2 inches across on a 19" screen.

I deleted my system cache and the system update in the l4d2 folder.  I don't think I updated to the newest xellous.  Could this be the problem?

I don't know what program you're using, but MB/s typically refers to megabit, not megabyte. As that's given, that transfer is moving at about 2.5 megabytes a second.

actually, MBS is megabits per second as u said but, that's wrong because 1 megabyte = 1024 bytes, (bytes not bits

Can anyone tell me why the proverbial Xexmenu (either version) WILL NOT COPY GAMES!!! It also has probs deleting. I've tried it with XBR3a and Freeboot, no joy. I got a game to copy with xexloader ,then I patched it with xexmenu , it worked for a while but later (having changed HDD's etc.. and maybe what profile I was using if any,) It stopped booting for no reason (MW2)?????????????????????

I have noticed something a bit strange with ftp transfers.  I was having terrible rates using 1.0, which were around 1-2 MB/sec.  I tried using both flashfxp and filezilla with the same results.

Now using 1.1, my initial transfer speeds were much better.  I was seeing around 10 MB/sec from both ftp apps.  The strange part is with large files (2+gigs, etc).  In transferring a 2 gb file, the first 400 MB or so transfers at a rate of around 10 MB/sec.  From around 400-500 MB, it starts dropping to around 5 MB/sec.  When the transfer reaches about 500-600 MB, it drops down to 2 MB/sec.  By the time a 2 GB file completes, I am seeing about 5-600 Kb/sec.

Any reason why the file transfer slows down as the file size increases?  If I transfer a ton of 10 meg files, my rate will remain around 10 MB/sec, it's just these big ones that are cauing an issue.

Thanks!

I just installed a 320GB 7200RPM Western Digital Scorpio Black (WD3200KTRTL). It seems to be having the same problem as some people who have upgraded their hard drives. Xexmenu worked fine until I copied a game to the Games folder on the xbox HDD. This doesn't seem to be a problem with the HDD because it works fine with the NXE dash, xexloader, and nxe2god. It's only a small bug in Xexmenu and will surely be fixed soon. I'm looking forward to the next update.

I found a bug, or should I say a compatibility issue with certain .xex files:

Due to the fact that we may add applications to x:\applications\appname\default.xex
XeXMenu will always scan, build game lists cache and extract info from the .xex file; but what happens with .xex files like Autospeed.xex (for fan speeds, patch or not) ?

XeXMenu will freeze, lock up your 360 and sometimes throw off E71.

Power off and back on and it's all good.

Just sharing a finding.

Cheers.

My copydvd fonction wasn't working before but I used the trick of someone in the thread and now it's working like a charm!

it's all about the timing!

when you click on CopyDVD, the dvd drive ejects, press on the eject button and wait 5 seconds, you'll hear the drive loading the disc, that's when you gotta press confirm!

worked for me!

Xexmenu is awesome!!! Works quite well (except for "slow" ftp transfers, about 2.5-3MB/s but that's ok).

I was just curious, when you launch a game through xexmenu, does xexmenu stay in memory? Or does it start the game and then end its process?

Thanks in advance.

Can you tell me how you have your "FTP SETUP"?

I tried to use the Datel XSATA but it kept turning my Xbox 360 off after about 5 minutes. So I ordered a Linksys Wireless N++ Router and just got it in the mail today. I want to connect my JTAG Xbox 360 to the wireless router but I dont want it to connect to the internet. As of right now, only my desktop PC is plugged into "slot 1" on my wireless router. I have 3 more open slots to use. I want my JTAG Xbox 360 to stay plugged into the wireless router, but I only want my PC to have access to the JTAG Xbox. I dont want my Xbox 360 going online and messing up the JTAG. I have turned the setting to the "do not connect to LIVE" in the settings menue of my JTAG Xbox 360. I read through this whole thread and nothing was said about setting up the FTP and how to keep the Xbox 360 from connecting to LIVE.

Whats the name of the FTP client that you think is best?
What settings do I set on my PC and in what menu?
What settings do I set on my Xbox 360 and in what menu?
Do I change my FTP settings in the original NXE network settings menu or do I do them in XexMenu?
When I want to FTP, do I have to be in the XexMenu or can I be on the NXE menu?

Sorry, I looked at all the title threads and didnt see a FTP tutorial. If I have missed it somewhere, please point me to it.

Thanks in advance

Secondly, I set flashfxp to "Active Mode". This was accomplished by going to (in flashfxp) Options > Preferences >Proxy. Here you will see a check box beside "Use Passive Mode" be sure this box is UNchecked.

Since you've already disabled xbox live access from the console itself, you should be ready (at least that is what I've done thus far).

When you wish to FTP to your xbox 360, start xexmenu on your console, then simply click "Quick Connect" (in flashfxp), then enter the IP address of your xbox 360 in the "Server/Url" fiield (the IP address can be obtained from xexmenu). The user name will be "xbox" (no quotes), and the password is also "xbox" (again with no quotes). Then click connect and it should connect smile.gif

Thank you!!! Perfect Directions!

Why exactly do you need to uncheck the "Use Passive Mode"......just wondering what this does when it is checked versus when it is not checked.

I have transferred XBOX LIVE GAMES, Emulators and Apps and they all workd perfectly.

One more question though. I am using a OEM 120 GB XBox 360 HDD and there seems to be a problem with transfering a certain amount of SNES ROMS......is there a limit to the number that can be in a folder. I have about 11,000 SNES Roms.... any advice.

Thanks again for your help

No problem, glad I could be of assitance smile.gif

To be honest, I have no clue as to why active mode is preferred over passive. Perhpas it affects transfer speeds in some way?

As for your rom situation, I do not know how to resolve sad.gif  There may be some upper limit as the the number of files that can be present in one folder, but again, I'm not entirely sure.

I was thinking the same thing, but for all 'known' files.
Show all 'translated' text in a different color.
And make a switch for showing original folder/filename (5841097E) or showing the translated text (Battlefield 1943 in different color).
Different color only on translated text, not on whole path.

Hdd1:\Content\0000000000000000\45410830\00007000\.......

or

Hdd1:\Content\0000000000000000\Left 4 Dead\GameOnDemand\.......

Well, I think you know what I mean.. wink.gif

Very much appreciated, this doubled my transfer speeds from the horrible 1-1.5MB/s to the much more passable 2-3MB/s.

Still would like to see more speed, but can't complain too much about it.

Is there something speacial i have to do to get stuff to appear there, as i can navigate around my devices and run them manually, but doing that for every little thing is getting quite annoying.

Your executable must be in the directories Xexmenu scans.
CODE
- Use GAMES, APPLICATIONS, EMULATORS for auto discovery menu on each device

Also, there is an option in the configuration tab to also show executables not named "default.xex" (XM360 is one of them).

Me too... and unfortunately, that's the only way that I can access my drive, because the partitions don't show up correctly in Xport, FATXplorer, Xplorer360, or LeFluffie, so I really hope this gets fixed soon.

Edit:  Was able to fix it by plugging in a USB drive.

Weird, I'm pretty sure the G was capitalized for me.  Anyway, I'm mostly using GoD containers from my discs anyway, just was trying out the XexMenu game launching function, so I just deleted the Games folder entirely once I got into XexMenu.

Hey guys I have a question.

Using XeXMenu 1.1

I have extracted the ISO using XBOX Image Browser v1 build 0002 and copied the content to a USB Stick (\Games\name-of-the-game\....)

Game discovery finds it, but when I try to run it. It says "The game can't run, please download again)

I tried to patch the xex files, same thing happens, the game doesn't run.

Is there any way to play these games without burning them onto DVD's?

Thanks to all in advance.

EDIT: It works if I use the "CopyDVD" option from within the XeXMenu

Hello All,

More info on the black screen freeze if it helps.   I have xexmenu 1.1 on 2 jtag'd boxes, both with identical WD BEVS 250GB drives.  One is a Falcon, the other is a Jasper 512.

Both were working fine, even after installing a Games folder on the HDD.  Then on the Falcon my son changed the resolution and time/date settings, then played a few games (launching with Freestyle).  Now the Falcon black screens loading xexmenu from either the hard drive, or the CD.  There are no USB drives attached, never were.  If I load the CD and have the HD detached, all is well and it loads using no profile.  I did the identical changes on the Jasper, however xexmenu loads fine on it.

It has to be something in the profiles that's causing this?  Maybe the obvious question is, why does it need to load a profile anyway?

I'm currently deleting the Games folder to see if it will then load.

Regards,
EluZioN

Update:

Deleting the Games folder did in fact work on the Falcon, but I suspect the Games folder itself is not the issue.  On the Jasper I have 5 older games (singing games, monopoly and trivial pursuit), on the Falcon I had one game, BioShock 2.

Maybe there's something in the new game (like the triple xex's in the root folder of it) that cause xexmenu to freeze?

Going to put my games in Freestyle/Games for now, I only use xexmenu for the utilities anyway (which are awesome btw).

I have the exact same problem on a falcon as well. It was working.... now a black screen no matter what.

I was trying to get games to load off of my usb hdd, they would all black screen.  I then transfered a game to the stock hdd.  I created a Games directory on the root and they booted fine. Also I installed a number of xbla games. After a couple days of playing the games xexmenu started black screening. At first i could get it to boot maybe 2 out of 5 times. Now it won't boot at all. Not even from a dvd.  I also removed the Games folder I added to the stock hdd. Also I removed any save files still nothing....

QUOTE(indy5 @ Jan 28 2010, 12:59 PM) View Post

Thanks!

i'm having the same problem.  the transfer gradually slows down when transferring large files.

Please don't take offense, but are you sure the folder is named "C0DE9999" with the second character being a Zero, not the Letter O?  I had the same problem you are describing when I used the letter O.

Content folder is reserved for DLC/XBLA games.

If you are talking about full games extracted, you will need to put them in hdd's root /GAMES directory
for them being detected.

What are you trying to play ?
If it's a XBLA, xexmenu doesn't play them.

And location is as you said Content/00000000.

So your solution would be to use XM360 or Freestyle (or any other).
So transfer it back to Content/00000000 and launch one of those apps
to play it.

If it's a full "DVD" game ..., well in that case this doesn't look like it is.

I can't seem to make this happen (one of my boxes has broken wired ethernet for some reason)

Is anyone else able to use FTP with the Microsoft Wireless N Adapter (the black one)?

No, the wireless module connects to the USB jack in the back. It works just fine for "normal" LAN stuff like music streaming, video and system link games, etc.

And yes, I am very sure the wired Ethernet port does not work.  The operation of the wireless adapter is completely independent of that issue.

From my experience so far (with xexmenu 1.1 and a falcon) is that it doesn't work too well for me. I mean, I booted the xexmenu iso. Copied it to hdd1:/Content/0000000000000000/, exit, started from hdd. Installed odst on hdd:/Games. Tried removing 'unknown save game' under dash > system > memory as suggested. Now, xexmenu doesn't boot, neither from cd or hdd. The "infamous" black screen of death.

Is there a way to get this working again? Can I acess ftp like this?

P.s. Maybe just format HDD and try again?

Another edit: Yes, formatting also resolves the problem, xexmenu starts loading again.

Um, again, No.  I'm not sure which one you all are thinking of, but:

Now, to get back on topic:  we're not here to argue about *how* the wireless adapter works, I just want to know if others have it *working with XeXMenu*.

Again, it works just fine for me with normal 360 networking.  Just not any of the homebrew dashboards.

Why even worry about NTFS?  Media support is much more pressing as well as HTTP support.

FAT32 is fine.  Would NTFS be nice?  Yes, but there is a bunch of stuff I want more.

Now let me know if I am wrong but, Fat32 has a 4 gig limit per file. Most of these images are 8 gigs no? This would be why ntfs is needed.

Yea the limit is 4GB per file..but if you extract the isos I've yet to see a file bigger than a couple of GB, so this limit isn't a problem.

Or just ISO2GOD them... automatically split up into nice little 170.5MB bites.

I have 2 jtag'd unit, and 1 has a 640gb drive in the HDD case and the other is an external 2TB drive.

The one with the 640 drive, when I try and run XEXMenu it just locks up to a black screen.  But if I reduce the amount of data on the drive then it works.  Is there a limit or a fix for xexmenu crashing because it tries to scan too much information?  I only have a few games copied to the drive and they are all NXE2GOD conversions, only 1 FF13 is an ISO2GOD conversion in the games folder.

I am just confused as to why Xexmenu crashes on this one but not the other one.  I have tried running it from disc, from live package and from default.xex from like freestyle or xm360 which both work fine.

I formatted the drive again at one point and xexmenu worked again until I started putting my xbla, dlc and games back on it.

I dug this up just to add a suggestion to people who are experiencing random black screen lock ups especially when trying to start up xexmenu.

I had two games installed in the "games" folder of my hdd, FF13 and mass effect 2.  And I never had an issue with xexmenu at all, it would boot up and always list those two games except that sometimes the icon wasn't there on mass effect.  But FF13 was always the FIRST GAME in the list, and that icon was always there.

So then I ended up deleting FF13, and so I was only left with ME2 on it.  As soon as I did this and ME2 was the only game in my games folder xexmenu would black screen on me 9 times out of ten when it loaded up.  All I had to do was to change the name of the games folder real quick so that it didn't try and load up mass effect 2 and it would boot fine every single time.

The solution for me ended up being to change the "auto extract game names" setting from the default of 1 to 0.

Ever since I have done that it has loaded up and listed mass effect 2 for me perfectly literally probably 30 times in a row now without a single issue.

After feeling I solved it, I was curious if that really did fix it, and so I loaded it up, changed it back again from 0 to 1, and sure enough the very next time I started xexmenu it black screened on me AGAIN.

So I went back in and changed the setting to 0, and it's good to go again.

So anyone who has some unexplainable things that they can't pin point that is giving them black screen troubles in xexmenu, try changing that auto extract game names setting from the default of 1 to 0 and see if it fixes your issue like it did mine.

Cheers

i have an issue i am hoping someone can help me out with. ive been using this guide to ftp to my xbox 1 running xbmc. i tried doing the same for xexmenu but i keep getting an error message. the message i get is:

an error occurred opening that folder on the ftp server. make sure you have permission to access that folder.
details: an internal error occured in the microsoft internet extensions.

ive goolged that error message but i keep getting links to issues with internet explorer. i know i can just use flashfxp but id rather do it this way because i like it better with uploading files to the xbox. any help is greatly appreciated.
