Flash360 v1.0
Posted by XanTium | January 15 22:38 EST | News Category: Xbox360

Redline99 released an XDK (XEX) flasher to overwrite your NAND (like for an XBReboot update) directly from your homebrew Xbox 360!
From the readme/nfo:
Quote

Place in the root dir of a usb drive:
updslot0.bin - Xell             (Address 0x0C0000 max length 0x040000 bytes, no metadata)
updslot1.bin - Rebooter         (Address 0x100000 max length 0x140000 bytes, no metadata)
updpatch.bin - Rebooter Patches (Address 0x194000 max length 0x004000 bytes, no metadata)

updflash.bin - Nand Image File  (this must include the metadata or aka spare/ecc bytes) Must be the full nand with exceptions for consoles with a built in Memory Unit.
Flash360 will scan the bad block reservation area of the file to be flashed. If it finds blocks that have been remapped then it sets the writing mode to write the file as-is.  If it determines that no blocks have been remapped then it sets its write mode to relocate any blocks as it goes along.
The block relocator logic will only apply to the Flash partition. This means that it will not try to relocate any block from the built in Memory Unit (if available).
A simple check of the KV will be done if the choice to not copy it from the current nand is selected.  Flash360 cannot currently get the CPU key to completely verify the KV before writing. If it detects a difference in the first page it will warn you before proceeding.

If Flash360 is ran from a HDD, USB or MU, saving the current nand image will be available. The raw dumped nand file will be saved to "D:\flashdmp.bin". (same dir as xex)

For consoles with built in MU:
You can select to save the entire nand or only the Flash partition (66 MiB). This also means you can write just Flash partition (66 MiB) to the nand.

When writing the Flash you can select to keep the current Keyvault and Config blocks. This is the recommended way to flash XBRebooter, straight from the release package.

If any writing to the nand is done do not return to the dash or bring up the guide. An auto shutdown mechanism is in place by backing out of the main menu.

The power plug should be removed to allow for a complete reinitialization of console.

Notes:
It is up to the user to verify the validity of the file(s) to be flashed.

Flashing the nand is risky, I hope it works well for everyone, if problems ariseI will do my best to address them.  There are still many items I would like to do/add to this app, so it will be a work in progress.

When using this app do not do anything that will interrupt it. Do not use the big center guide button on the controller. Do not have the dash doing anything in the background. Remember what this application is doing is replacing the contents on the nand without the rest of the system knowing about it.

There is also a new Xell I have created with many of these features plus some new ones that should be nice.  Time didnt permit releasing it though.

This is killer...wish one of my 3 360's were able to be 'brewed. Hope someday they will crack that second bootloader.

Seems like the 360 will replace the original Xbox as the main media hub soon...haven't kept up with the homebrew as much as I should since I don't have a JTag'able system, but is there a new XMC in the works?

Not too sure, but I think the readme says to add these files to root of a USB (best way I think)

usb:\default.xex
usb:\media\ (folder that came with this release)
usb:\updflash.bin ( this is the full nand you'll be flashing. Make sure your kv and config are injected).

Run the app and watch it do the magic.

I'll test when I get home.

I'm too waiting for the Xell version. will defenetly help me on my technique of installing XBR from fresh.

Download the Xbreboot.bin for ur console type. Rename it to updflash.bin and put it on root of USB.
Launch FlasH360 via xexloader,viper360,etc
Follow on screen steps.
When u get to the flash part tell it to flash everything but keep kv and config original. it will flash XBreboot on ur nand and skip over ur kv and config block.
Follow the steps on screen to backout. let it countdown it will auto shut off ur console. After that unplug ur pwr supply for 15 seconds . reconnect and power up. pop.gif

So what happens when all the exploitable 360s RROD? My understanding is only 7 months of exploitable jaspers were made. Everything pre jasper basically has a 100% failure rate over 3 years.

Fantastic news!

Now all we need is a "recovery mode" in-case of a bad flash like the PSP has when you hold right trigger down and power it, then we can all unsolder the LTP flasher wires for good! smile.gif

Maybe something like that already exists?

Please forgive the me but I just want to make sure I understand what exactly this app is and how to use it. I paid someone to JTAG my Xbox 360 and I am hoping when newer releases come out in the future, that I can update it myself without having to ship it back to the person that did the JTAG for me.

Here is my interpretation of this app.......

This app is used if a newer version of XBReboot comes out and I will be able to update it from the current XBReboot Version that is on my Xbox 360 to a newer version by doing the following steps ....

1)My Xbox 360 has already been Jtagged and I have Xexloader installed
2)Insert USB Flash Drive into Xbox 360 with these files in the root (Xbreboot.bin for your console motherboard that has been downloaded from the "usual places" that is renamed to "updflash.bin", "Media" folder, and "Flash360.xex")
3)Power Xbox 360 on
4)Open "Xexloader" app in the games section and then open the "Flash360.xex" while inside of "Xexloader"
5)Options will come up asking if I want to keep the "kv" and "config" original and I select yes to flash everything but to keep those two original. (My question is will this show up like a game does in Xexloader or do I push "right" on my controller to bring up the USB files (the place where I can press "Y" to "copy", "move", "delete", etc and if I press "right" to bring up the files on the USB, what exactly do I do now?)
6)Follow the step by step on the screen to backout
7)A timer will count down and will turn the Xbox 360 console off automatically
8)After the Xbox 360 turns off, unplug the Power Cord for about 15 Seconds
9)Turn back on and enjoy

Sorry for being so detailed but I have spent a lot of money on getting a Brand New 2008 Holiday Pro Bundle and paying to have it JTAGed, so I dont want to do anything to mess it up and want to understand these programs

The guy who did your box should have given you your original nand.bin. If not ask him.

Then no dramas stuffing flash up as you can always go back to orig.  Above method seems fine too

This still won't help you recover from a bad flash.  I've got one of those "dodgy" cable mods, and you wouldn't even know it's there unless you were told.  Great application release but I'm still glad knowing I can hook it up any time to my pc without pulling the case apart.

Sorry for the newb question, but I have yet to JTAG my pre-7371 console and am guessing this is solely for people w/ the typical wires & soldering exploit already in place? Or am I missing something here?  Really wanting to get homebrew going but have been out of the loop for the past few weeks and I'm not sure what the best way is now or if any more "user friendly" methods are on the horizon.  Thanks for any input!

Make sure this bit is understood.

If you have XeXloader running, you can use Flash360 to DUMP the nand you have on there. Then use Degraded/BadBlockMover to shuffle your new version of XBR. You could use Flash360 to flash back then, AFTER the bad blocks have been remappped.

Jasper 512, USB LPC-H2148, XBR3

How will this app handle BAD BLOCKS that are outta XBR3's range?

These blocks are bad on my nand.
DB0,DB1 are within XBR's range, so they need to be remapped.
I used NandPro20b to remap them to  "7FFE and 7FFF".

Question, since I remapped those blocks to the end of the NAND, I can't Format my Onboard MU?
Or if I Format the onboard MU will i lose DB0,DB1 that are now on 7FFE,7FFF?

DB0
DB1

No it does not because you can't run homebrew on the banned console.

What you want is here.

Thanks, but what I'm waiting for is the day a software type patch/mod will let me install games to the hdd again rather than solder. Will that day ever come? Nobody seems to give a sh!t to answer that question over on that forum.

You have any idea how many people ask me to do that to their consoles? So glad there wont be a point in doing that anymore.

Dremmel the console? What does that even mean? I have done many 360's and never had to do that. I'm curious.

Didn't work for me, now my xbox won't boot. No red lights, just the central green light.
Can't boot into xell either, give me 3 red lights.

Sorry dude just woke up. tongue.gif  Even though you did not ask for help what did you expect from your post?. No details whatsoever other than "it did not work".

If it truly is an issue with Flash360 (rather than user error) I am sure Redline would like as much detail as possible so he can try and resolve the issue so it does not happen to others. That's just my thinking on it.

We can change the content of NAND directly from dashboard, right? So why just don't look for demo game, in which we can include Flash360? That would make 2.0.8XXX run homebrew.

P.S:Sorry for my horrible english.

Dude... seriously... you are a retard! It's not that simple. Please read up on the JTAG hack, simply changing the content of the NAND on a 2.0.8XXX console will only brick it.

so would it be possible to use this bad boy to flash xbreboot on my onboard nand eventhough I had a cygnos v2? or would wiring have to be redone and such.  I have it flashed on to the cygnos chip so would I be to use this program in the future to update it?

i'm putting it on user error. most all issues are user error lately with the 360 being hacked and people not able to troubleshoot stuff themselves.

i went back to my original nand and extracted the kv, injected it into the stock XBR image, then chose not to use the current kv/config when flashing with flash360. i had a zephyr that throws random e79s with kv and config, works just fine with kv only.

Here's something alarming for you...
I have a fully operational 256 and during the full 256MB dump of the nand I got these errors:

error reading block 4c status 218
error reading block 6a status 208
error reading block 1b0 status 210
error reading block 1b1 status210
error reading block 24b status 250
error reading block 7ca status 250

And when I dumped the 64MB part I got the same errors except the last two, because they were "out of range".

One might say I just have lots of bad blocks, but I know I only have one (B48) in the 64MB range, and it doesn't even show that one in the error report!!!

What are all these errors?

Question from a noob.

I am buying a jtagged falcon from someone.  Is this how I am supposed to install XBR from scratch?  Do I need to inject a kv and config file?

1)install xexloader from cd/dvd
2)download xbreboot.bin and flash360 v1
3)rename xbreboot.bin to XXXX.bin (forgot the name will look it up later)
4)load flash360 from xexloader
5)flash nand

It'll ask if I want to keep my old KV and Config which I will say yes to.

What is this talk about moving bad nand blocks?  How do I know which blocks to move and where if I run across these problems?

When I push the eject button to turn on my 360 I get Xell.  Power button boots into XBR.  Can I use Flash360 to overwrite Xell with Xellous?  I was thinking I'd rename xell-2f.bin to updflash.bin and put it on a usb drive.  Once in Flash360 would I select option A?  The LPT wires have been removed and the case reassembled so I'm not really looking forward to going back to the lpt method.

Am I on the right track?

Rename xell-2f.bin to updslot0.bin and place in the root of your USB drive or stick
In flash360 press button B (write update area of rebooter)
Then button A (write updslot0.bin (xell) )

hope this help

Thanks for this wonderful program. I had flashed my nand but the lpt was not very reliable and I had to flash it like 5 time to finally get it working. I used this to flash it from the console and everything worked perfect.

I dumped the Nand that I had flashed with LPT before I used this. Then I flashed with this software from the xbox and then dumped the nand again to compare the 2 just to see if my Nand flash was the issues I been having the last few weeks since I flashed it.

I compared the before (from lpt) and after (from flash360) nand and there were many differences. So it was no wonder I was having issues with my Xbox the last few weeks. I bet it was not flashed right before.

since there is apparently a new system update on april 6th, how do we go about reflashing xbr entirely?

I realize we'd have to wait until the new xbr comes out.

I just mean, what files would we need to rename and what options would we use?
