I suggest
you tell the Smartxx team that they cant do something they have already done!
wtf mate..
first off no one started flaming except one guy, although computertrendy was a bit rude. and also he was asking how to change the serial number in his current hard drive, so telling him "buy a smartxx hard drive" wouldn't be an answer either. Just calm down guys, its no big deal.
The reason I say get a new eeprom, is because you're hd serial and eeprom info are both recorded when you get on live. But they allow you to use the account on another box. So if you plan on upgrading your hdd, flashing a brand spanking new eeprom on there will give a new eeprom/hdd serial pair for the xblive records, making them think your a different box.
That's my theory anyway, I don't think there's any other way you're going to upgrade a larger hard drive on live without getting banned. You just can not change your hd serial.
anyhow, whatever you choose to do, good luck.
you cant change the serial number on the HD...
you will need a new eeprom to get on live with the new HD
No...I was assuming you didn't want to get banned which requires a different set of EEPROM-HD SN. I knew what you meant.
I have already recovered my account once and I think it said something like it would only do it that one last time. Should I just copy my live files from my old drive? If I do, where on the C partition are they?
I just swapped out my fried stock hdd with an old Quantum 10gb. I have been on live a little bit (2 2-month trials) on my stock hdd about a year ago.
That means I have to get a new eeprom before I go on XBL with this Quantum? That sucks, I was planning on using this for XBL and a 160gb for the rest.
Guess I'm looking for a new eeprom :/
Actually, in the eeprom there is something called an "Online Key"
Is that the thing I want a new one of?
Because I could just buy that code off of someone, then edit the eeprom in ConfigMagic. That way I wouldn't have to change my hdd password or anything.

Is there a way to do this in windows xp for one of your harddrives. I'm talking about changing or cloning a hardware ID number for a harddrive. Like some programs you install the key and it has to match the drive's hardware ID ( or serial number) and it can only be installed on that drive. I was just wondering cause I got some software on my stock hdd and it's only 18 gigs and one day I would need to upgrade it.
