QUOTE(shrekan @ Dec 5 2009, 06:32 PM)
CG / Relapse must have done something pretty devilish. We just wana know what he did.
he is the one who is believed to have leaked the Xbox 360 XeDk tools to the general public, though he will deny it greatly. Again I don't know the full story and really don't care but for reference:
I've also heard he has leaked a lot of other things that shouldn't have been leaked as well but anyway...
thats why
Back on topic...
I really wish I had not screwed up my JTAG points, all this homebrew coming out and even homebrew libraries. The 360 is about on par with the xbox 1, save for the missing xbmc which really doesn't matter as it is kind of a media center on its own with just a few missing xbmc features. Such as going online and youtube streaming, but I use my computer for that .

Installed to the 360's hard drive and running fine on my XBReboot Jasper . Love seeing all this homebrew finally kick off on the 360. Great work!.
*Edit* Works great!. I'm currently playing Deadliest Catch (which was a US only region locked game) on my PAL 360 . What's even better is I'm playing it from an SD card through a USB port. All I did was use Xbox Backup Creator to rip the game files from DVD to PC and then use X360GameHack to patch the .xex for "all media" and "all region".

So... if xbox360 can play unsigned 360 code... can it play unsigned xbox code? How exactly does a 360 play xbox 1 content? 360 can play xbox1 games soo why not play xbox1 homebrew as well?
This whole modding scene has been incredibly exciting. I can't wait to see the hacks get easier to use for the home-hobby modder to be able to do.

You cannot play a game thats not on the backwards comp. list because of the fact that micro$haft made basicly an software emulator for each title to run the xbox 1 games. oh a side note looks like its time to start modding again after i did about 15-20 orignals and repairs ect I want to try the 360 side Im in the process myself of getting an xbox360 that wasnt updated. This is truly an amazing step towards homebrew. I just spent the better of 2 hours playing SFII on MAME360 . I also got around to installing one of my games (borderlands) to a harddrive, but was having some issues. After playing the game for about 10 minutes, it starts to lag really really bad. I was wondering if anyone else had issues with this? It seems like theres a memory leak or something similar as the timing is always around 10 minutes...and then you can turn off the xbox, back on, and play for another 10 minutes no problem.
Again, fantastic work after only a few days!

Are you using XBRebooter 8955_0? If so, try updating to _1. I don't think it's an issue for the loader?

You can make a folder structure on your flash drive like this:
Then boot from the CD and copy the "Content" folder from USB to 360 HDD using xexloader (hit the back button for help).

Yes, I am using XBRebooter_Falcon_8955.1
I know it isn't an issue with XeXLoader and most likely an issue with XBRebooter, however I figured most people would be using this tool for Hard Drive loading, and figured it was the better place to ask about why the game comes to a crawl after about 10 minutes of usage. I also patched the game using XeXtool with -r m to disable the media check.
Thanks for the reply's, anything is helpful!

I'm also having this "speed down" problem. I haven't tested it with ripped games, also not with retail games or ixtreme backups. This problem happens with some XBLA games (Trials HD for example, patched with yaris-swap, very often right from the beginning of a level). Also, funny thing, I somehow have installed Fable 2 to the HDD with the dashboards original "install game to HDD" feature, now I have TWO versions on my HDD. One with the full description for the game, which will ask for the DVD in drive, and one that will just run from HDD without anything in the drive... and it will slow down too, in the intro sequence with the bird for example. It's pretty unwatchable. Or even the start screens smooth scrolling of the landscape isn't that smooth at all now. The game itself (if I skip the sequence) runs fine, but I didn't play for 10 minutes... Many other XBLA games, patched or unpatched, SSF2THDR for example, run fine. I'll put some research into it now, checking if it happens after 10 minutes with ripped, retail (on DVD) or backuped (on DVD) games too.
What's causing it? This x360gamehack program will help in this matter? I guess not, as someone already said he used it and it didn't help. Freeboot is not suffering from this problem? I hope it gets fixed soon, because all of this, XBR, xexloader, yaris-swap (or the other tools for doing that patching), it's just f*cking awesome! Thanks to everyone involved! I appreciate your effort!

I don't think so! Look at the size of the last backward compatibility pack download. It's pretty small. And what's installed to the HDD of it is even smaller. My guess is that there is a general emulator, and the backward comp downloads are just some additional fixes to the emu for each game. The reason why the emulator isn't available for just any original XBox game would be that they wanted to make sure the game is not only playable but also finishable, thus the emulator runs only checked and "fixed" games.
Maybe those back comp downloads are even just JIT patches for the original game, so the emulator runs smooth...

I tried it with Borderlands. Like I said, it starts fine and plays for about 10 mins perfectly. Then at this point it starts to lag and slow down really bad. However if I turn the xbox off and then on immediately and then load the game again, I can play for another 10 mins roughly. This is what makes me think it has something to do with a memory leak or something similar, which would explain why it always takes roughly the same amount of time to lag with the same game. Also it doesn't matter where in the game you are, just always after about 10 mins.
Thanks for any insight...anything I can contribute I will!

Wow guys
Apparently I need to get my ass back into the scene.
I did a lot with the old xbox, but short of flashing my drive witht he 360 i didn't do a whole lot more.
Sadly I took the dash update in summer 09 so I'm SOL untill we find a way to back step that little update which I'm sure one of the fine people on the ball will do eventually.
But just the thought of being able to upgrade my hdd, and play games off of it without the disc in the drive is awesome!
Come on xbox360 Media center M$ pathetically tried and blew it. lets get something with real balls.
the 360 in theory should have the guts to stream 1080 mkv files over the net.. but for somereason I get glitches just streaming pumped up 720p xvid.
Guess I will be checkin the forums a little more often!

Is it possible to simply build in a 500gb 2.5 HDD ? Do I have to format it and make partitions on PC or do I only need to format the HDD with the hacked dashboard??

It's definitely not harddrive related as I can tell when its using the hard drive or if it is idleing and it is constantly spinning happily. I ripped the disc to an external 2.5hdd hooked up on the front usb port. I patched the xex with xextool 5.2, which from what I am reading appears to be the problem. I will try using the x360gamehack only selecting make dev for the xex and report back.
Thanks for the suggestions.

Just backed up Fable 2 and then patched the game using X360GameHack and it freezes after about 1 second. What could be causing this, a bad backup? I also renamed the directory from "backup0" to "fable 2".
Also Amazing Advances lately, I have to just say Thanks to all involved.
I got it to work now, At first I messed with the default options in X360GameHack. I then reran X360Game hack with the default options and it works now.

Don't need xextool: automatically detect correct key for dev or retail xex.
. Why is then we have to patch these games with xextool or XgameHack?

Yeah, that's what I've been trying to make clear through all my testing. Running it from the 360's HDD seems to eliminate the bottleneck. And yes you can swap out the hard drive with any 2.5", and it will format properly using the xbox. However, you won't be able to use any current PC-based tools (Xplorer360, Xport360, etc.). If the XeXLoader file management is good enough for you (expect updates in the future), then that is the best option.

Slowdown here also with Borderlands possibly due to me using a very old IDE HDD, purchasing a 500gb today. what rpm are the stock HDDs 5400 or 7200?

Is there any way to restore the unofficial memory cards like the datel card? I tried mine with XBreboot and the 360 still wont recognize it. Can i 0 out the revocation list or patch it from my 7xxx nand back up to restore the memory card? I know i can use USB but i would like to get some use out of this thing.

Well it appears using x360gamehack was what the problem was. I patched borderlands using that tool instead with all the default options and was able to run it without any slowdowns
On another note, when patching L4D2, the screen just comes up with black and purple checkers, and never starts the game. Anyone else tried L4D2 yet?

Yes, me .
I patched with xextool and than turned into dev mode with x360gamehack
I played it yesterday for about an hour without slowdown.
I think you need a lot of luck. I tried the same with assassins creed 2, but it always slows down on the same scene .

Hi this is probably a very stupid question but please forgive my lack of understanding right now. I have a xbox that is about 3 years old one of the original elites. I have been on xbox live and have the most recent update and am not banned. Can I still use a jtag exploit to use homebrew apps or would I need one without the update? I know that the jtag for for downgrading and for reading and writing a new KV are out but is the rest possible?

I have played Left 4 Dead 2 with no issues, as well as many other games. You need to CLEAR YOUR CACHE of title updates, because when you patch games, the xexp files inside the update cannot run correctly. The workaround for this is extracting the files from the title update and using xextool [-p] to apply the patches to the untouched game files, then patch with gamehack and play. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)
Make sure all the libraries L4D2 uses are getting patched with gamehack, they should be like so:

*sigh* we need a sticky for this....
If you have the latest updates, either from LIVE or from the latest games, or have bought a 360 that has it preloaded, then NO, you cannot use this, and most likely never will be able to.
Regardless of the type of 360, you must NOT have the latest updates loaded, and to all those waiting for that to change, it would take an entirely new exploit to be found, so I'd say forget about it, sell your current box and go buy another one if you want to exploit it.

Alternatively you can use Schtrom 360 Xtract to extract the game.iso from the complete backup you already have. After this, you can open up the game.iso with Qwix like you would a normal Xbox 1 game, and extract all its contents to a folder on your usb drive.

That's right, The disk is needed if you want to copy to the hd without the use of an adapter or without opening it. I don't have a memory card to test, but with the disk you should be able to copy the app to the card as well.

I still can't get over how great this is.
I can finally play MY games the way I want to play them. No more 500dB everytime I want to play a game. Old games/New games, all in Fat32 format. I can't wait. Will still be a week before I can find time to jTag. Don't have to have anymore CRAP shoved down my throat, that is Xbox Live, M$, and updates.
Why the scene is so good to us, I'll never know. I'm thankful though, for people's hard work. One day, I might have enough PPC assembly, C, and hardware knowledge under my belt to give something back. Maybe next round, Power PC all the way around (Wii 2, PS4, Xbox 720)
Do you think this will recognize a drive with a Fat32 parition as the first partition? As the second partition? (I've got a WBFS partition on my drive.)

I had a great pleasure to delete the 2 first movies from nfs shift, which annoyed me quite a lot since I play it a lot Simply deleted with xexloader and voila, as if they never existed
Have sometime lag ingame, at the begining of a race. This seems related to the race itself (combination of cars and track), as it is consistent 'til I reboot the console or if I try another race. Maybe a bad media @ copy time, did not take the time yet to do and extraction from the iso. The game is copied on internal 120gb, and is no more hdd installed with the dash. It's not game updates since I removed all of them. I can't remember it there was an update on xbl for this game.
So I'm not fixed yet as the cause : media, xbreboot, jtag with diodes ... seems gpu related (and so is jtag...) but a little random!
But I'm still happy

I have 3 different games on my 1 tb drive. you have to extract each to a folder at the root. SO i have usb0://UFC usb0://Ac2 usb0://COD4
you then go to that folder and select default.xex and the game starts. I have also played with 360menu which is a GUI for this but all games/pics etc have to be manually set-up for now.

Get another xbox that has a 7xxx dashboard or below if you want to use homebrew.

I'll test and let you know....
nope still getting freezing.
Also have had to redo the setup page several times. you know the one that you get when you first turn on a new xbox. is this normal or is there perhaps something wrong when I wrote XBR
This happened to me when my jtag wires had a contact.
QUOTE(belenos @ Dec 9 2009, 05:16 PM)
I have 3 different games on my 1 tb drive. you have to extract each to a folder at the root. SO i have usb0://UFC usb0://Ac2 usb0://COD4
you then go to that folder and select default.xex and the game starts. I have also played with 360menu which is a GUI for this but all games/pics etc have to be manually set-up for now.
Noob question: how did you do that? Since I can't make a 500gb fat32, I made a partition and formated it in fat32, but xexloader doesn't see it. The problem is within my hard drive or I messed up something?

My guess is that he soldered a SATA cable to the HDD header under the motherboard, and soldered up a SATA power connector (5v from the HDD header, ground wires to the shielding, 12v from power supply connector) and connected a 1TB HDD and formatted it with the 360.
This is what I did anyway.

eheh, I'd like to do something like that but I dunno where to get the sata and the power cable from.
If I buy the cygnos chip and use freeboot, will I get the same freezes with new games as well? Or the problem is inside the xexloader?

AFAIK, XBReboot is what causes the freezing, not XexLoader.
It has also been speculated that USB HDDs are the bottleneck, and that SATA wired HDDs dont have the freezing issues, but i'm not sure.
Freeboot apparently doesn't suffer from this problem, but I can't confirm that...
The games I have tried thus far (Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection and Monopoly) have had no freezing/lag issues being run off my 1TB SATA-wired HDD.

Can you snap a picture or describe where the SATA headers are in the 360. I am trying to get my HDD to work but seems that the external connector on top of the 360 has gone bad.
I would like to try this out or I will have to take the USB route.

I just have to say BRAVO to the team that developed this.
Finally, FINALLY got around to jTaging, dumping (3x), and flashing tonight. Took me the greater part of the evening and into the AM, but I got it all working 1st try!!!
Loaded up Xexloader and Holy crap. Not only did it recognize my USB hard drive, but it found the second Fat32 partition of TWO partitions. Loaded up Banjo Kazooie that was patched with xbox360gamehack, and it loaded........INSTANTL without a sound.
I am floored. This is too good to be true.
Thankyou again for providing the community with such a great tool so soon.

I'm going to try either clear title updates...or patch them. I don't know how to patch them, as I don't know where they are located. However, I do know how to clear the xbox 360 of it's cache......

So far, every retail DVD I tried to rip and patch, froze when I tried to play from it. Some games freeze randomly, and some at a specific spot. I tried playing from an external USB harddisk, aswell as the original Xbox harddisk. I also attempted using XeXTool and Gamehacker, with varied parameters, but that didn't seem to fix it.
Whoever is having success, can you please detail your system, and parameters so we can try to pinpoint why some people are having problems, and some are not ? I suggest something like this:
MB: Xenon Rebooter: XBR 8955_1 Game: .... Parameters Used: ..... Media Used: USB HD, USB flash, or Sata HD
I suspect that it might be something like, Freeboot working, and not XBR.

I guess Xbreboot has some freezing probs? Xboxhacker.net is down right now for me.
I get freezes on both from USB hard drive and from XDVDFS Dvd burn. Extracted with Redline's xbox image browser, patched with default options recursively with x360gamehack.
I'm using a falcon....8955_1, xbreeboot.
Has anyone gotten Xbreboot to work without freezing? Whats odd is I'm also freezing launching from previously backup up DVD9 discs, which would indicate its an Xbreboot problem. That backup never froze from standard m$ kernel.
If anyone is having 100% success with Xbreboot .05 _1, please share.

Any updates on this? I'm leaning towards your implementation of the hard drive problem as it's very nice and avoids unnecessary power needs for an external USB drive, but I'm worried that it might be a pain to get games onto the drive (unless I just keep my PC open with a SATA dongle hanging out of it).
I did find on Amazon a USB-to-SATA "plug" that you just insert a bare drive into and it gets read as a USB drive by Windows, so that might be nice. But it's $50...

rompath = usb:\Emus\Mame\roms samplepath = usb:\Emus\Mame\samples .... and so on

Maybe freeboot uses different patches for different consoles. I have a zephyr running XBR and also have freezes. Looked at the freeboot package and there seem to be differences in both the base and console patches per console. Look in the bin dir. Filesize seems to be the same however in a hexeditor they look different.

about the slowdowns, my xenon console slows down when playing sf4 from burned DL DVD in the original 360 format (the ones we used when xbr was not available)...
I read a couple of posts that were interesting... i have placed a 100gb HD on my 360 and formated and transfered files from my original 20gb hd... whats the chance of the HD being the problem? i will try to play sf4 without Hard Disk today and see what happens... otherwise if its not the Hard Drive then im pretty sure it would be Xbreboot since im not loading sf4 using xexloader...

I wonder what the latest is from Jester.
Jester? What is your idea on the slowdowns? At first (earlier in this thread) you thought it was error on the users part due to patching, etc.
Is this still your viewpoint? Just wondering.

I posted this on XBH a while ago:
I use Bayonetta to check if the lag is present or not. There's a chapter (Route 666) that always causes lag, and it doesn't matter if you've been running the game for 10 minutes or not. I tested this on a Xenon running XBR_1. Tried XBR_0, but that didn't seem to make any difference.
NXE install -> lag Straight from DVD, only MC present -> lag Removed DVD & SATA-HDD, launched XeXLoader from MC and ran game from 300GB USB ->lag SATA-HDD present, launched XeXLoader from HDD and ran game from 300GB USB -> lag
On a side note, another game, Samurai Spirits Sen (fighting game) only lags during the loading screens, in-game it's perfect. And the Bayonetta chapter seems to be streaming data heavily from the storage device. I would think AC2 streams in-game data as well. Gonna try SFIV and Tekken 6, I'm fairly certain those two would be perfect in-game as well, since the data is presumably loaded into RAM before the fight begins.
Edit: SFIV lags in-game after a few minutes. I have no idea if it's streaming data or not when the lag begins. Tekken 6 stutters a bit during loads, perfect in-game (HDD seems silent during fights). I should add that I run these from the 300GB USB drive using XeXLoader.

That's a decent workaround, but we need to find a way to make Title updates work with running games from HDD, not just delete them altogether. Some things require title updates to run properly, especially when DLC comes into play.

Apply the .xexp patches from updates and it works fine.

You need to actually patch the xex with the xexp from the title update file in the cache folder. The problem is, some games, like Rock Band 2, have extra files that need to patched in. I believe that these are patched in my the game itself and separate from the xexp. As of now I don't know of a way to patch in these extra files. I suppose title updates that only contain an xexp and no extra files and folders will work fine.

the freeze is xexloader upon hitting the a button on default xex, once it goes to black screen press your x box guide button on controller that usually makes it start faster

tried playing superman returns from dvd only (while original 60gb hdd is attached) and the game locks up at startup. If i try playing it without the hdd, the game will load fine. Havent tried running it from usb hdd & xexloader while original hdd is in place. Also lots of slowdown with Shadow Complex XBLA running from stock 60gb.

PAL Falcon with the latest XBReboot and XeXLoader out there atm.
So far I've only tried The Saboteur off of an external 7200rpm USB HDD formatted with FAT32. The game will freeze at pretty much random points (in game and loading screens) for a minute or two and then resume again, and any buttons I've pressed meanwhile will all happen at once.
Gonna try a few other games and maybe also try formatting the drive with HFS+ since I hear FAT32 has huge inefficiencies when it comes to partitions bigger than 32GB.
Also planning on adding an eSATA port to let me use any 3.5" HDD in a nice enclosure, but that's a different story and will take a while to get together.
