abgx360 v1.0.3
Posted by XanTium | November 6 19:41 EST | News Category: Xbox360

A new version of abgx360 has been released:
Quote

Changes affecting all platforms:
* Added full support for all current PFI/Video waves and the ability for future waves to be fully supported through updates to abgx360.dat
* The SplitVid check is now mandatory when checking an ISO/DVD and the "Check Stealth" option is enabled (iXtreme LT requires SplitVid for XBL safety)

Note: The GUI has not been changed and will still display version 1.0.2, don't worry about it as long as the CLI app displays v1.0.3

Sorry for the long release interval but v1.1.0 is taking much longer than expected and hopefully this interim update will address the main concern people were having, even though v1.0.2 was designed to support new PFI/Video waves as long as the game was verified, v1.0.3 gets rid of the yellow text and also allows you to check SplitVid on newer games that haven't been verified yet. It does not, however, add automatic searching/patching of SS v2 files. That's something that isn't even finished in v1.1.0 yet, and there's still the matter of SS v3 to deal with.

Note 2: XBL safety is very uncertain at the moment... The latest LT firmware for Samsung drives is considered by many to be fairly safe (since the TS-H943A ms25/ms28 original firmware doesn't support AP 2.5) but owners of other drives need to be very careful and upgrade to LT+ when it becomes available.

Note 3: Just because the source code for abgx360 is made available, it does not imply a right to make changes and/or distribute source or binaries. Permission to do so is granted on a case-by-case basis. This is necessary to prevent people from distributing buggy code or binaries which may adversely affect the online database, or distributing potentially virus infected binaries on sites that appear official but are not. If you only need to make a small change to enable compilation on your system, permission is hereby granted to do so, as long as it does not affect the way abgx360 communicates with its online database in any way.

IMO, he needs to clarify what the license is even if he distributes the source. I appreciate the source a lot as I do not want to have to use Wine or use a pre-built 32-bit binary on my 64-bit system. Nowhere in the source is there a clear license for his code. In GNU style, the exact license would be mentioned on each source file used, and a LICENSE file would normally be included which includes the full (legal) text of the license.

So far we have: build it, don't distribute it, and don't mess with the DB. Kind of like Mozilla's license in which we may build our own branded version on our own but we may not distribute it as an official version.

There is no license. Standard copyright law applies. A license is only required to grant permissions, not to restrict them, and permissions are only granted on a case-by-case basis due to the close integration between the app and the database.

Anyone else having problems updating?  When I go to the "about" it still says 1.0.2.  I even uninstalled the old one and did a fresh install of 1.0.3.

In windows explorer I see this:

put in the folder "Stealthfiles" inside abgx.  Read more about this stuff as the only purpose it has is to check security.  If you do something wrong, its all for nothing.

1) Only in jurisdictions that forbid unilateral contracts
2) If that's really the case, then the author would have to explicitly grant permission for each and every download of the source, because copying is one of the rights reserved to the author under copyright law.

Since 2) is insane and clearly not intended, there must be some form of implicit license. If I were a user of this program, I might be more at ease were it codified and clarified.

If you are the author, you'd better reimplement, or eliminate fnmatch.c: it's GPLv2 or later, and therefore incompatible with the licensing of the work as a whole. The FSF is not terribly litigious, but it does have lawyers and money.

All of this crap just gives me a headache. There is actually no copyright notice inside the abgx360 CLI app binary or the windows installer, only in the GUI source/binary, abgx360.c and website html because those are the only files which i have actually made entirely from scratch. If I have no right to say what can be done with the work as a whole because it depends on source code or libraries that are not public domain and require a certain license for derivative works, then I will not claim such a right.

Look, all i want is for people to stop making shitty versions of abgx360 that get stuck in an endless loop of hammering the database or making official sounding websites full of misinformation or potential viruses.

Video partition does not match known data (probably corrupt but might be a
brand new wave if this is a new game and abgx360.dat hasn't been updated yet)

Stealth status is uncertain

That's what mine says on COD Black Ops after updating to abgx360 v1.0.3

That would be because COD Black Ops does not exist in the ABGX360 verified database yet...

Just a little observation regarding COD - Black Ops. I am positive i saw this game listed as game no. 1026 that had been verified by abgx360 last night. However, today the game isn't listed anymore. If it was verified then why was it pulled again...? Just wondering.

The uploader broke the rule about no verifications before official release date because "every shop" in his Italian town was selling it early on saturday. It was up for about an hour before I took it down.

Feature request.

Would it be possible to have the program output to the CLI, and also generate a .txt file when the operation is complete, and automatically have that file named something along the lines of...

abgx360 - Wave6 - Patched SSv2 = PASS.txt

Great work as always Seacrest... I'm using the OSX version and so far it's been great.

I have a question about the ability to check burned discs using OSX. From what I've read, pointing to the DVD-ROM device in the /dev folder should work. However, whenever I try it I end up with an error about an unrecognizable file system.

The weird thing is if I use the same drive to check it when running the Windows version of ABGX360 in VMware Fusion, I can read the burned DVD just fine.

Is the ability to read burned DVDs unavailable in the OSX version or am I doing something wrong?

Correct, it's not supported yet. Basically all you need to do is finish the sendcdb function for OS X in abgx360.c

CODE
#elif defined(__APPLE__)

int sendcdb(int direction, unsigned char *dataBuffer, unsigned long dataBufferSize,
            unsigned char *cdb, unsigned char cdbLen, bool checkreturnlength) {
    // todo

    sprintf(sense, "UU/OO/SS"); // temp -- gives sense error "Unsupported Operating System"
  return 1; // temp
}
