Title: Update My Smc! V0.1 By Nknave/krizalid *update V0.2*
Post by: krizalid on June 03, 2010, 03:32:00 AM
WARNING!

Recent discoveries lead us to the fact that this does not support FreeBoot nand images (*.bin).

Please, only use on Xell or XBR.

You may however download SMC_IO v0.2B which was released by Blackddr which has a similar interactive menu like this app, but will not inject to nand.

This is where you'll manually put the patched_smc file in /data/ as smc.bin and run ibuild to create new image. Or a Toolbox of choice.

Maybe, just maybe if I have a chance, I'll release v 0.3 of this tool that will make things a little easier for most.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here's a little app for you, sorry, right now I'm good at BATCH, and not soo good in the other stuff, but I'm working on it.

I'm sure FreeBoot Toolbox and other FreeBoot buidling tools wil support this in the future, but hey, I beat them to it and I release it here.

Enjoy!

UPDATE
QUOTE

* Updated code to simplify first options on SMC Patches Options
* Added More Options tab to modifify TMS and TDI as you like (DANGEROUS!)
* Reorganized files within folders to look less messy
* removed runtime file installer, not working properly for some ppl.
* added 2 more .dll files within runtime folder that are necessary as well.
* runtime files must be installed manually.
- copy all three files to C:\WINDOWS\System32\ and run the following command:
- "regsvr32 C:\WINDOWS\System32\[.dll filename]"
- as mentioned before, if this works well for you, you don't need to install these DLL.

- UPDATE MY SMC! v0.1 by Nknave/Krizalid
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- Simple tools for simple ppl.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- what does it do?!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, this will use smc_io by Blackddr to patch the ports on smc of choice, than will use SBTool to encrypt
and update your nand file so you may flash back to console.

- Supports XBR and Xell only!
- Does not support Freeboot or M$ Official FS (that's a no brainer)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- What you will need before using this app!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You'll need Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x86)

Download:

M$ Visual C++ 2008 Redist Package (x86)

MSVCP60D.DLL - Included in this package with batch installer as well.
(If it doesn't work for you, install manually to C:\WINDOWS\System32\)

*This file might not be necessary for you if the app runs well after installing
the runtime files from M$, I included it cause It didn't work for me for some reason
till I installed it after.

Patched SMC files (These can be obtained from free60's Xell Images).

All files are decrypted and are 12kb in size.
Please use the names as below or the app might fail to do it's job!
Make sure they are in the same working directory!!!

-zephyr.bin
-falcon.bin
-jasper.bin
-jasperbb.bin

* I also made a batch file to dump the smc's from xell images of free60.

Make sure they are in this same directory and with their original names aswell:

All files are 1,320kb.

-zephyr_hack_updxell.bin
-falcon_hack_updxell.bin
-jasper_6723_hack.bin
-jasper_6723_hack_for_256mb_512mb.bin

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Instructions!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, this is the easy part. Just follow onscreen instructions and you'll be done in no time hassle free.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Credits!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- First of all to Blackddr and Happy_bunny for their time and effort into the SMC_IO tool
- Tiros for fixing the original code on the SMC
- I don't know who made SBTool, but credit's goes to him/her?
- So only 2% credit to me for building a small batch file to do the job for you! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Absolutly no M$ Copyrighted files in this package.

I had problems with DUMP SMC FROM FREE60 XELL.exe.. It told me the a bunch of ***.dll and even when I had them installed it still had errors.

But I compile from source SBTool.exe and the app ran smoothly and its 120KB and yours was 104KB. Idk may want to try it if your having troubles also.

Thanks, but your SBTool.exe is not working on my PC, acts like an installer not wanting to install, and CMD will not launch it either  huh.gif

For now I have an update for v0.2 and will post it in a bit.

Sorry, but this SMC patch does not apply for Xenon, as far as we understand, Xenon should not be suffering E79.

Look here to see if this helps: http://xbox-experts....rcode/E79/1033/

Id be very intersted to see your results on that, I have a couple of Zephyr's that rrod on boot, I used a 330 resistor in place of the jumper wire that helps things but would love to get them booting 10 for 10 etc.

Having problems with this.

I made a freeboot image for a Zephyr with FB toolbox then went to reconfigure the SMC with this and changed the rol spot to AUD_CLAMP, got E79 on boot so I know its changed the SMC, moved the wire and I dont get any dashboard booting but Xell will boot fine, just get a blank screen and no errors.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

Any ideas? its the 1st time I have tried this.

Great app! Just an FYI Jasper BBs and Jasper 16s use the same SMC and you can download package with all of the SMCs on #freeboot on efnet. Does this perform the bug fix as well?

Well, having the additional option in the menu is going to help newbies and not ask: "No JasperBB support" before testing the app, and I'm sure they most didn't know about the SMC being the same.

Hey, I just learned this months ago, so many ppl out there still doesn't know.
Yes it does perform the bugfix since it uses smc_io.exe v0.2A by Blackddr.

Package doesn't contain any SMC files, but I coded so that you may extract SMC using SBTool.exe (debug).

So let me get this strait. If I patch my SMC do I have to move the jtag wiring. For instance to I move the point from the RF to the AUD-CLAMP? Is it possible to use this without rearranging soldering points? Finally, does updating the SMC makes the Jtag hack more stable (less boot errors)?

Sorry for the noobish questions but I want to make sure I have this correct before I try it. Just want some lamens terms.

You only have to move the point if you patched the smc for the new point. Yes you can patch the smc to fix the bug and then reflash and it should help.

OK, from what I can tell this will be an awsome tool! Thanks.

Now I have dug a little into it and from looking at the options you can use the Open_Tray for TMS (RF solder point) so all the work can stay on the top of the board (no need to remove mobo and easier to solder to as I have the DB1F1 in place). Has anybody tried this? If so, does it solve boot speed and/or ROL errors?

I have and It works great, but if you do it on a Zephyr, your DVD Drive will always eject during boot.
This does not happen on my Falcon and I don't know about jaspers, since I don't have one to test.

Another option is to use TMS=ARGON_DATA (rf_board) and TDI=OPEN_TRAY on Falcons and japsers, and they will work fine, except for the charge kit issue.  wink.gif

Thanks for the reply. I have a Falcon and have had little sucsses soldering to the bottom of the board. The only issues I have is the ROL errors and one that I don't know if this will solve. I have a Media Center remote. It has a regular power button and a Media Center button that ,when unhacked, would launch the 360 directly to Media Center. Now with the hack in place, it turns on the 360 only the center light and fans power up, but no audio/video. No error lights or anything. I wonder if it has to do with the SMC and/or the original wiring messing up the boot sequence, or if it is an error with freeBOOT 0.032 with Xbox 1 compatability running on a single NAND.

hmmm, cannot know if I don't have it on hand, what I do suggest is updating your SMC using only the bug fix only and not patching any I/O ports.

Try that first, if not, than I suggest you change your wiring.

Got a quick question and scenario for you guys:

Initial Setup: Zephyr CB 4580 flashed with falcon freeboot .32 --> the only one that works; kept giving random errors

The fix: ran "update my SMC" and applied both patches to the smc for my falcon freeboot. Keep this in mind, when I ran the program, I pulled the smc from the falcon freeboot when it asked me which mobo revision I had.

The NEW Problem I changed the wire config, flashed, and get a boot with no picture.

Questions

1. When using "update my SMC", should I have run the patch for the ZEPHYR motherboard?

2. Should I only apply the "AUD_CLAMP" fix and not both of them

3. Should I try flashing with Zephyr Freeboot with Patched SMC now?

Anything you guys might have done that worked, please let me know. Thanks

How exactly do I use this tool? I have a freeboot.bin (16,896kb) that I made it has my cpu key and everything in it, I put it in the smc_updater_v0.2 folder, I then opened up DumpSMC-fromANY_image and chose my freeboot.bin image and chose falcon which is my chipset type and it created Falcon.bin(12kb). I then went to update-my-smc! selected falcon.bin and then selected 3 to change the jtag points to aud_clamp and tray_open. The Falcon.bin is now 16,896kb. I cannot open it with 360_flash_tool.194 or anything.. did I do this correctly? can someone please help me out Im stumped and dont know if im doing this correctly.

From what I understand you extracted the SMC correctly. Now you should have freeboot.bin and falcon.bin. When you run update-my-smc! point it to freeboot.bin not falcon.bin. Then the freeboot.bin will now have the patched SMC.

Thanks, Ye I figured that out.. I was just getting confused.. thx for the quick reply.. appreciate it man.

can you use the freeboot image that you used to install to your nand and run freeboot with, Like I took the smc out of my freeboot image that I created with jtag tool 1.72 so im using the image that I had flashed into my nand and actually had it working but then the ft1u2 trace fell off and I got screwed and then I did another one and it fell off, the worst of luck.. basically Im asking if the freeboot.bin that I created using jtag tool 1.72 is fine to extract the smc and then inject the new smc into the file using smc update v0.2

Im wondering the same, I wonder if I got it rite. I extracted the nand from my freeboot.bin then it made a 12kb falcon.bin (smc image) then I updated my freeboot.bin and chose the options I wanted.. I have no clue if this is the correct way... hopefully someone can help us out on how to properly use this program.

Use the smc_dec.bin extract from the xbr_3 image, i always used that smc.

What about with Freeboot though? I extracted the SMC from my freeboot image (I have a zephyr 4580 so I'm using Falcon freeboot .32).

I extracted the SMC from the freeboot, tried patching it with the zephyr patch once and tried patching it with the falcon patch once and both give me no video when I boot. I patched with just AUD_CLAMP only and changed the wiring like I needed to.

I am going to try to run it patched without the wiring change (option 1 in the tool) and use the original wiring to see if that helps. For some reason it's not booting with picture for me, but I don't get any RROD or e79 errors. Odd problem.

Any help is good.

Having problems with this.

I made a freeboot image for a Zephyr with FB toolbox then went to reconfigure the SMC with this and changed the rol spot to AUD_CLAMP, got E79 on boot so I know its changed the SMC, moved the wire and I dont get any dashboard booting but Xell will boot fine, just get a blank screen and no errors.  blink.gif

Any ideas? its the 1st time I have tried this.

I have just figured out that not all 360's are compatible with FreeBoot nand dump modified with this tool

I'll edit the first post to remove "FreeBoot support"

It worked good on 1 zephyr and 2 falcons, but this new zephyr I got, I used my own tool to update on nand freeboot v0.32 and no video output.

Due to the re-encryption, there's a chance that it should'nt be working at all, except for Xell and XBR.
Funny thing is that it worked on me.

I suggest you start using SMC_IO v0.2B which now add a similar interactive menu to what I have done here.

Difference; it will not inject to nand file, but will build the SMC for you to update building new FreeBoot image with ibuild.

Guys FreeBoot is VERY easy to get working with this!

What you need to do is patch the SMC in your XBR image and make sure it boots properly. Then you have to extract your SMC.bin, SMC_config.bin and KV.bin from the XBR image (through iBuild i believe) then manually assemble a FreeBoot image using iBuild

does anyone know if this supports the current dash 12611, i can make 9199 images then patch with this tool and it boots fine.

but when i try with the latest dash i get stuck with green power led, and no video (eject still boots xell).
