added delete of files and folders.
Status bar shows files and folder names as they are added.
Here is a beta of my XBox 360 Commander
A lot of the features are not working yet. Just wanted to get some feedback on in.
features not working yet:- Drag and Drop of files
- hard drive error check
- hard drive defrag
freatures that are working:- Backup
- Restore
- Format Hard Drive
- One Click Transfer Wizard
"One Click Transfer Wizard" lets you transfer all files from one XBox 360 hard drive to another.
all the files on the second drive are lost so you must make a backup before the transfer if you need to keep them.
Format, Back up and Restore do what you expect.
the hard drive must have a valid HDDSS area to work.
It will open both XBox 360 hard drives and binary images of a hard drive.

Very nice!
any hdd size supported ? 20gb/60gb/120gb/250gb ?
and I found small bug , "One Click Transfer Wizard" window size is wrong , I can't see the buttons ( windows 7 ).
-
Thanks for the bug report. I am still using Win XP and everything looks good there. Could you send me a screen shot of the window?
Yes it reads the HDDSS on the drive to get the size to use.

Didn't you bother reading the OP, it needs a valid HDSS.bin on the drive meaning it is for official\official clone drives.
Is there a 500GB official drive out?
NO!
-
Thanks for the app, bout time we had an alternative to Xplorer. I understand that your app relies on the HDSS of a hard drive, but have you looked into any kind of support for Jtag drives? Im sure a lot of people would appreciate that, but I have no idea how possible it may or may not be.
Thanks

well you're just charming arnt you?
anyway most JTAG-ers won't have official HDDs anyway, the official HDDs have pethetic amounts of storage

Actually it just gets the hard drive sector count from the HDDSS record. It does not check if the siganture is valid. It checks if the PNG image is there as the test to see if it is a XBox 360 hard drive. It will work with any hard drive used as long as those two thing are correct. I made the assumption that the XBox 360 uses the sector count when it configures the hard drive. But I have not checked this on a JAGed console.
Let me know if it works for you. I could modify the code to get the sector count in a different way if needed.
-
hows this in comparison to xplorer? i find that xplorer will make me need to clear my cashe afterwards to play games, or sometimes it deletes content
-
i cant wait for defrag and error check.

how about a button that will auomatically place title updates in the correct place?
hit button, select the TU file, hit go... and your program does the rest?

Hi
Just tried this with my 500gb internal drive for my jtag system.
It finds the drive at whatever location but thats it after that it locks up (not responding) and doesnt show any of the partitions.
This drive was clone from a 20gb using a tut from x-s somewhere

Ok. I take that the HDDSS is from a 20GB hard drive. If the sector count was not updated in the HDDSS XBox 360 Commander will look at an incorrect offset for the root directory. Could you send me the HDDSS you have on the drive and the make of the hard drive used?

Is this supposed to work with 60gb drives as well?
Everytime I attach a 60gb drive, Xbox 360 Commander detects the drive "XBOX-360 Harddrive found at \\.\PhysicalDrive2"
Then it freezes up.
I've tried it with 2 different 60gb drives and I get the same thing

Yes, My primary test drive is a 60gb drive. Other one is a 20gb. Have you used any other programs to move files to or from the hard dives? I sound as if the directory tree is corrupts in some way. Although that would probably result in an error in the program.

I keep track of all the 360 homebrew stuff, but I dont have a jtag yet.
anyways, how does this program work? Is it all done via a network(on a jtag only) or is it simple where you can take any official HDD and hook it up to the PC via the HDD transfer kit? Is there any documentation on this program. Mainly I want to be able to back up xbox1 DLC sicne it likes to basically expire (becomes damaged)if you don't use it often, and the future defrag tool.
Also, what was someone talking about with moving title updates to the correct place?

It works by connecting HDD transfer kit. I have not written up the docs yet.

nice... i've been waiting for better hdd tools...
-
A nice feature would be to select what to backup/restore. If you got a list of checkboxes or something so you could choose to only backup/restore stuff like: DLC, specific profiles, gamesaves, partition 2 etc..
-
Looks like it is not NULL checking. Maybe the menu options should be disabled until a hard drive is properly loaded in.
-
Its so nice to hear we will be able to defrag our hdd's in the future. Thanks alot!

Great little program. Hopefully jtag support will follow soon. im sick of xplorer360. I made a backup of my 80gb jtag hard drive using xplorer360 and i restored the image to my 320gb hard drive. it loads fine in the 360 and all emulators and progs work fine but for some reason it refuses to run any 360 games on the hard drive even tho it did before.
It just comes up with an error saying i need to re-download the game :/. So i thought it may have been the hard drive so i copied it back to my 80gb and it does exactly the same thing on there. anyone have any clue whats happening
thanks

Great Stuff man! There is a significant lack of 360 hard drive utilities available that are effective and user-friendly. I definitely see this program evolving into one of the better HDD utility programs. I've noticed that a lot of people here at X-S, including myself, take a lot of this hard work for granted, so I'd like to say thanks a lot for your hard work. Don't pay any attention to the ignorant fools who complain that the program isn't exactly "tailored to their needs", as their lack of appreciation shows their lack of experience and hard work necessary to develop a program like this.
-
To the OP, will you be open to releasing your source code? Xplorer360 supports xbox1 FATX partitions and I'm the developer for xboxdumper and I would like to see support added to your tool for old school xbox1 users.
Will send you a PM. Thanks.
-
Very nice tool. It detected my official 120gb drive connected via HDD transfer kit cable. I didn't test out any other features yet.
I usually have issues with Xplorer360 so I was using FATXplorer (Link). It works well for what I need it to do. In particular, I like how it shows the actual game name instead of just game IDs. I'm just bringing it to your attention in case you want to use some ideas from it.

I have been working with the goal of supporting both XBox 360 and XBox1 with this tool. The current version should detect XBox1 HDDs and display the directory information. but none of the tools will work with it yet. I don't have access to and XBox1 formated HDD for testing.
I am using C# to develope XBox 360 Commander. Maybe something can be worked out for testing the XBox1 code.

Download Rev 2 here
This revisions address some of the problems that jtag systems have been having. Also I have had a few issues with HDDs that Xplore360.exe has updated.
Feedback good and bad welcomed.

I can't wait to try this when I get back from vacation. I am getting tired of Xplorer360 being slow and not supporting all 360 hard drives in one app. I had to use a different version for each size hard drive I had.
I am glad to see jtag hard drive support in the works.
-
I will test this app later today on my 500gig and see if it works. Currently neither Modio, Xplorer360 (hexedited for 500), fatxplorer or lefluffie can read it properly.

Using the 1.0.0.2 version.
With my original MS 120gb hd connected and starting the application it tells me "XBOX HDD detected at \\.\physicaldrive5" and then hangs/stop responding.
With my JTAG 500gb hd connected and starting the application it shows me partition 1/2/3 but no contents at all inside any of them. I'm not interested in formatting or backing it up so can't verify if those work for me.

I need a dump of the partion header for partition 3 from a 500gb or larger HDD. I think I know why none of the FATX utilities work on the larger drives but I need to verify it.
If anyone can dump the sector at 0x130eb0000 and send it to me I would be very appreciative.

XBox 360 Commander rev 3
This revision has the fix for HDD > 250gb in size. There still are issues with the large drives. I can't test this directly so I need feed back!
-
Still having issues getting the program to recognize my "internal" 3.5" 1.5TB HDD. Then again, I haven't been able to get any explorer programs to see the files. Partitions all pop up, with nothing inside them, but drive runs fine in the console itself. (FTPing, transferring through console, playing games, etc.)
I'm not sure if version 3 of your program is setup to read HDD's > 250GB AND formatted by Xbox only, (no hex editing, etc.) I'm also using a hollowed-out USB external HDD case to connect the SATA drive to my laptop, not a transfer cable, if that makes a difference. Does Commander only scan for drives that are connected via SATA? And does it only scan for drives that have been cloned to resemble 20, 60, 120, or 250GB partition setups?
Would love to see this tool work for my drive, as it looks to have tons of potential once complete. Thanks for all the hard work.

XBox 360 commander scans all hard drives connected to the computer. It looks to see if the HDDSS is present to to verify the hard drive is for XBox 360. So a HDDSS must be present or it ignores the drive.
It will check to see if the HDDSS size matches the physical drive size. If they are different it will ask if you wish to update the HDDSS. If you do not update it it ask you which size to use to calculate the cluster chain size.
Also the latest version checks the cluster size for the partitions.

So, if I patch my 500 GB drive with an HDDSS for 250 GB, then Commander finds the drive and will ask me to update the HDDSS because the physical HDD size is 500 GB. Correct?

Yes. You can use any HDDSS. XBox 360 Commander will reconize the hard drive as an XBox 360 hard drive.
It will make a backup of the HDDSS found on the drive before patching it.
QUOTE(TraJiK @ Apr 4 2010, 11:40 PM)

Ah, fair enough. So i guess since my 1.5TB HDD doesn't have an official Xbox 360 HDDSS, it can't be recognized by Commander. That is the problem that I've had with all other explorer applications out there too. Bummer... Is there no other way to recognize these unofficial drives? as I'm sure I'm not the only one out there with this issue.
Working on it. I am going to add a check for FATX partitions 1 and 3 on the drives. If they are there then I will assume that it is a usable XBox 360 hard drive. I am not going to check for partition 2 because it seems some drives don't have the emulation partition installed. I hope that this will get your drive reconized

My official 120GB on my JTAG box is now working. I noticed a bug. Seems like if you try to drag something out of the app, it locks the app into thinking it is still dragging no matter what.
Is there no way to manually right click and save off/on individual files/folders from the hard drive? Drag and drop of files to and from would be nice or just rightclick and save menu option to save manually.

Excellent progress. Rev 4 finally recognizes my 1.5TB HDD from my JTAG console. The left window is displaying the directories, but my right window is completely blank too (as described above). Very excited to see a tool out there that can actually read these > 250GB drives.
Also, hovering over the "help" icon displays "toolStripDropDownButton2".

None of the changes I made had anything to do with displaying the files. I will check this out.
I'm a computer programmer too and a simple change, even if it has nothing to do with another function, can cause something that worked fine to have issues.
I had an issue with a game I was working on that took me several weeks to track down. It worked as it should when I ran it in debug build (not compiled yet) but when I compiled it, it behaved quite differently. It was such a chore to track down.

I think that it's path related. Some kind of illegal characters might have been used (check the double "\" in the path, are you escaping it for the alertbox or is it hardcoded?)
However, if i ever choose to not update the HDSS. And choose to use the calculated HDD size, the soft loads fine but... i get empty partitions:
(IMG:http://i43.tinypic.com/32zsxo9.jpg)
(IMG:http://i43.tinypic.com/2i9h4lz.jpg)
BUT, if i choose not to update the HDSS AND not to use the calculated size... everything runs fine:
(IMG:http://i40.tinypic.com/wlvmad.jpg)
To make a long story short, there's an error while trying to update/save the hdss.bin. I can't really tell if mine was updated or not.
All i know is, now i can finally open my drive from usb using your tool.
Thank you very much, you made my day.
Hope to see v0.5 soon.
PS:
Can you please use some bigger icons, your soft will just look better.
I can only browse through directories by clicking on the left side (tree view). Clicking on the right side (folders), does nothing, hope this little bug gets fixed (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
Keep it up mate, it's just one of the best tool outhere.

First off, i've got to tell that i've just signed here in order to congratulate icepir8icepir8 for his awesome work.
For real, i'm using a 500G 2.5" (Scorpio Blue WD5000BEVT) as my main hard drive, and your tool is the only one that actually opens it AND let me access the content.
That's just trully awesome.
However, there's still some issues.
First time i ran the soft, it poped out some info and if I answer [YES], it throws some exceptions:

Thanks for the bug report. Yes it is invalid characters in the filename. it is trying to use the drive serial number from the HDDSS area on your drive. It's not there and so it is garbage. It does not updated the calculated size on the HDD because it crashed before it can update the info on the HDD.
I will have it fixed next rev.

Great news, can't wait to get it
-
Now we're talking, great app! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I tried what others posted before and answered "no, no" at program startup (don't want the program to mess with my hddss data) and now with the latest tool version I can see the content inside all three partitions.
I also extracted a game save from my profile dir on my jtag 500gb hd to the PC and compared it to an old backup made from my original MS 120gb and they are binary identical, so reading files seem to work fine.
Haven't tried writing anything to it yet though, but will do soon.
I'm really happy to finally find a program that lets me manage my 500gd hd as all other apps I've tested (fatxplorer, explorer360 hexedited, lefluffie, modio) failed.
Would love to have normal "right-click -> cut/paste" functionality in a later version, rather than this "right-click -> create dir for copied files" style

XBox 360 Commander rev 5
Whats new?
Drag and Drop improved.
Double clicking on a directory in the right window changes to that directory.
Fixed Partition 1 problem
Fixed crash when updating the Calculated size in the HDDSS.
Error checking of the files and folders being added is still nil so back up first!
-
Lookin good so far. And great to see so many revisions released so quickly. You're on the ball, icepir8icepir8. Having a few problems writing to the drive though. Just seems to hang once I drag and drop a file to the right window, but transferring from the drive to my laptop works fine. If you need anyone to test new revisions or new features in the future, with different types of HDD setups, let me know.

This app is looking very good and useful.
I don't have much to add but I'm using Windows 7 (64 bit) and it will only recognize my drive if I run the exe as administrator. Not a big deal but just thought I would share for some people who might think the app isn't working for them.

Windows Vista and 7 will require it to be run as administrator since it has to access the hardware directly.

First I want to thank you for this great program. It was time for someone to work with the xbox hdd more seriously.
But I'm writing with a problem.
I'm connecting a 250GB WD HDD ( xbox 360 hddss.bin installed ), which is formatted and used by a jtagged console. Initially the drive had freezing problems and after some testing it seems the problem is with the formatting of the drive.
So far so good, but formatting is now only possible on jtagged consoles ( unmodded consoles return error when trying to format ), and Xbox360 Commander Beta 5 opens the hdd ( xplorer360 and xport does not see it ) but didn't see the contents of Partition 3 and none of the features does work ( defragment, checking, formatting ). This when connected with HDD transfer cable.
For now I can't test with sata connection, and I'll be able later today, so in that time I'm asking for some suggestions?
For more info about my problem: Unreadable Disk On A Harddrive Installed Game ( Fully On Jtag )

Little update:
I can read the xbox content and extract it to my computer, however whenever i try to write to the xbox HDD it gets stuck in a infinite loop and i have to kill the process to make it stop.
Please, Ice, fix it

First - thank you icepir8icepir8 for the program - great to see free apps like this

I am using a 500gb WD BEVT drive connected via USB on Win XP. I got the program to recognise the drive by restoring my 20gb backup via xport.
Questions:
Can you please explain in detail what updating the HDDSS.bin/ calculating the drive is doing on drives > 250gb?
Is formating the drive going to create proper partitions on a jtag (i.e. non MS > 250gb drive)? i.e. Partition 1, Backwards compatible partition, Content partitions of proper size?
Bug report: (rev. 5)
Program won't let me create a folder in a folder - I can insert content/000... but can't insert content folder then access that folder on the 360 drive, then insert 000... (Program doesn't crash, however my mouse freezes and will be restored when alt-tab in and out of program).
When I tried to copy Xexmenu I created the content/000.../C0... folder on my desktop and inserted that (drag and drop) - when I ran xexmenu (via CD) I could see that Xbox Commander made the file structure correctly on the HDD, however the file itself did not copy properly and showed only ~1mb (instead of ~30mb)
Keep up the good work! Look forward to hearing from you!

Thanks for the quick update!
Bug report (rev 6)
Updating HDDSS.bin on my hdd makes partition 3 display gibberish (files are still there) - fixed this by hexing in my original HDDSS. This also occurred when I said no to using calculated HDD size - but not when I use original HDDSS & say yes to using calculated HDD size.
+1 for formatting as the 360 does prior to xbr
What would be great, though possibly outside what you want to do is allow people to migrate their data from an old HDD (in my case 20gb) to new jtag hdd while retaining original partition structure. i.e. a one click feature that does this: http://www.xboxhacke...01222#msg101222
Thanks again

Thanks for the bug report.
Although what you reported is known. Some drives it is the other way. answering no to using the calculated size works and on those drives updating the HDDSS works. that is why the option is there.
What you could try is backup your HDD using the calculated size. Update the HDDSS to the new size. Then restore from your backup. There is a chance that this will not work if the calculated Size < 250gb and the actual size is > 250gb.
as for the "One Click Transfer" that is what it does. problem is that the allocation of space is different between drives with < 250gb and those with >250gb (the actual size is somewhere around 257gb).
I am working on this.
QUOTE(TraJiK @ Apr 10 2010, 05:33 AM)

Still having issues writing to the drive with Rev 6. Grabbing stuff from it works just fine. Everything just hangs when dragging/dropping a file or folder to the drive. So close to getting this application perfected, icepir8. I like the addition of the status bar at the bottom, but that would be great if it were paired with a progress bar as well, if possible. Especially for transferring larger files/folders. I'm sure it's on your long list of to-do's.
I've been testing with 10mb files and don't see a problem. I will try larger files and see if I can find the problem. maybe there is a bug after a certian size of file is reached.

Sorry - I should be more specific. When I tried update HDDSS.bin on rev 5 I did not have the gibberish problem (I am aware this was reported in an earlier post) - thing is the files are still displayed in Xport as their original names even with the updated HDDSS. You mentioned you don't have access to a larger HDD - anything you would like me to try doing?

I'm curious if the file transfer issue I'm having has to do with either a) running Windows 7, or
the SATA-USB enclosure that I have been using to connect my HDD to my laptop. (Slow transfer or read speeds freezing the application?) Any file I try, large or small, hangs Commander. There's also still that issue or dragging a file or folder into Commander, and the drag command never really "let's go", as someone stated earlier. Maybe it's hanging the application because it's not actually initiating the transfer... I don't know, just throwing some ideas into the mix, I'm no programmer.

I use a cheap SATA_USB enclosure myself. I am using WinXP Pro sp3. You may want to try turning off the UAC temporarily for testing to see if that helps. Also I posted rev 7 with a progress bar. I have transfered 700mb+ files to my drive and it does take a bit. With the progress bar you can see that it is not frozen.

Does your drive have a HDDSS? If yes could you send it to me?
What hard drive make and model are you using?
Could you give me a dump of the Partition Header for partition 3? just the first 32 bytes will be enough.
What is the offset for the name.txt on your drive?
That should be enough to get me started.

TraJik you will be happy to know next rev will have an improved write file to hard drive. I found where in the code as the hard drive fills up that the writes are slow down. Fixed it! There are probably more optimizations that I can make but this made a big difference on my 60gb Drive.

Reading from this works great. I am using an XBR XBox with an official 120gb hard drive with USB microsoft transfer cable on Windows 7. It always assumes you want to read from drive when right clicking. Maybe a right click should trigger a context menu of the tree list item the mouse is over and it should have an option to export or save file or selected files depending on if more than one have the Selected flag enabled. Also, dragging and dropping into the window crashes the application. So far i cant write anything to it, but can read from it just fine. Was there supposed to be a progress bar when reading from the drive? Also is the source located publicly? Thanks for all your hard work. You are working this to perfection and an all inclusive HDD app is MUCH needed in this scene. Thanks again.

QUOTE(Kamse @ Apr 10 2010, 05:42 PM)

i was hoping that rev 7 will work for me, but still no go.
I can extract files to XP SP3 HD but i can't inject files to the XBOX 360 one.
It gets stuck in a loop like the others said.
Hope your next rev will fix this Ice.
By the way there's another cosmectic bug:
Click on the folder window (right one), it calls the file selection box, then click Cancel... there's a selection ghost as if we double-clicked on the previous window.
It might be something dealing with the OnMouseDown/Over trigger, please fix it too

Well the next release will write the files to the hard drive faster. The code for writing to hard drive would get slower and slower as the drive filled up. I fixed that problem.
Thanks for the click and cancel issue. Fixed it.

Great. I look forward to that revision, as the attempted transfer speeds I'm getting now are ridiculously slow. Love the progress bar though. Another great addition. Still getting hanging problems during most transfers though. Going to test out different ways of transferring files and folders (different sizes, different sources, etc.) and see what I can come up with. For the most part, I'm having the most trouble transferring files only. When I drag and drop a folder, it initiates the transfer. When I drag and drop just a file, it hangs instantly.
Another thing to maybe consider would be a feature to move files and folders around from within Commander, like, from one folder to another, or to another partition, etc. Loving these super quick revisions. You must be working on this app non-stop, and the scene appreciates it.

I don't know what is up with the locking up. I wonder if it is a > 250gb hard drive issue.
I will add this to the to do list.

icepir8icepir8! You are releasing faster than we can test!
I am using a 500gb WD BEVT Drive formatted through XBR - so there is no HDDSS - this is why I was curious as to what fixing the HDDSS was doing because as far as I am aware, there are none > than 250gb.
What is strange to me is that both Xport and Commander can see the drive without a HDDSS...
I am not @ home right now but I was messing around with my drive last night and I'm fairly sure the values you asked for are the same as Magnus Hydra's guide - http://forums.xbox-s...howtopic=701738
So name.txt is @ offset 1381F0DE0 - this I'm sure of,
according to the guide the partition 3 header should be (I think):
08 00 6E 61 6D 65 2E 74 78 74 FF FF FF FF FF FF
I'll have to zero my drive and reformat in xbr to be sure the partition 3 header is right so it may be a while - sorry
Hope that helps in some small way
Keep up the good work!

How do I add content to the hard drive using this app. I can't figure it out.
Drag and Drop does not work. I just get a black "NOT" symbol.
Also when I double right-click on a folder, I am assuming it is asking me where I want to dump the folder, but I get no progress bar and the app appears to have locked up.
Also would it be possible for you to add the ability to sort the list in the right hand side as Xplorer360 didn't do that and I like to be able to sort items either by Name or Size(when that gets added in).
Otherwise it's great.
P.S. I am using a Western Digital 250GB drive with an official 250GB HDDSS that I dumped from my official 250GB drive.
Also using Windows 7 with Xbox 360 Commander in Admin Mode.

I have tried to drag and drop to the right side but I get the black "NOT" symbol.
I have tried to drag and drop a folder. Is that possible or does it have to be a file?

Just posted rev 9. I think you will like this one. It address the apparent hanging with dropping a folder onto the right window.
We are getting close to something useful now.

Congo Ice, rev9 is finally working for me.
I tried to export a simple file from my BEVT 500G -> PC HD, then edited/renamed it in order to inject it back to the xbox drive... and it worked
Great work mate, it's really the best hd tool around!
However the cosmetic ghost selection bug is still there.
Maybe it's time to start working on the contextual popup (while performing a right-click).
Edit:
If i try to inject a file which is already on the xbox drive (i wanted to update it), it doesn't replace it, but injects another copy alongside the original oO
Hopefully, the Delete key worked (on my keyboard) so i removed the old file, then i don't have dupes.
(You really should implement this contextual popup).
With all the dedicated beta testers and your hard work, we're gonna have the best HD tool, Keep it up

Well, it's definitely "working" now. Big step from rev 8 to rev 9, I actually had files and folders transfer quickly and easily from laptop to harddrive and vice versa, but I made the mistake of transferring xbox 1 files to my empty partition 2, and it froze, and messed up everything, (don't ask me how, haha). So I've reformatted, and am in the process of restoring from my original 120GB, and files from my backup HDD. I'll let you know how the process goes, because I'll be using Commander for the restore from .bin file, as well as moving over all my homebrew files, etc. Fingers crossed that everything goes to plan here.
Oh, and I was obviously frazzled when I posted last... I meant 1.2TB hahaha. crap.

Hope all goes well with the 1.2TB. But atleast I have something to work from to prevent it in the future.

I am using Windows 7 Pro. I still can't drag and drop with rev 9 so I can't add anything yet. Also drag and drop to extract files and folders still does not work for me (if that's supposed to be working).
The app loads the hard drive much faster than Xplorer360 ever did. I'd like to see if it can add files and folders faster then Xplorer360 too.
-
For whatever reason the program always wants to detect one of my actual drives as a Xbox drive and tries to open it - would be nice to have a "Cancel" button or "Skip" in case the drive it finds is incorrect so it won't lock up.
-
Using rev 9 to copy (drag & drop) GOD's created with iso2god to a 2TB HDD
I followed Kamse's advice "click [NO] on every alertboxes (do not update my HDSS and don't use the calculated size)."
The only issue I'm having so far is speed, it seems to be VERY slow.
Keep up the good work man

Here's an idea. How about an option that lets you manually select the Xbox Hard Drive based on the drive letter that Windows gives it.

Well What I was thinking of was detecting all XBox compatible drive and showing them in the tree on the left.
this would let my setup to copy from 1 drive to another without swapping drives.
That sounds like a great feature. Sometimes I do find myself wanting to copy a file from 1 hard drive to another without having to swap drives. Especially files that the xbox 360 won't let you copy normally.

Feature request for xbox1 hdd. To support the partition table created by xbpartitioner.
Rev 9's drag/drop somehow crapped out on me on Win7 Home. Didn't have the issue on Rev 8.
Thanks.

Dough
Dough I am using a 60gb drive to do most of my testing with. Beyond that I can't guess why you are having problems. What error message are you getting when it crashes? I need more to go on.

Longer when I use Win 7.
30 - 40 mins for 1 gig! What is your setup? It should be a lot faster than that, right? Would be quicker via FTP lol
-
Another suggestion. How about letting us customize the lists in the right side panel. I have no need to see 3 sets of dates or dates at all for that matter.
I like being able to see what each game id is. Thanks for that.
Also drag and drop still does not work for me. Windows 7 Pro x64.
EDIT: Feature request. Maybe you could add some code to parse the LIVE, PIRS and CON files and display what the file is in the Comments column. The Item title is in the same location regardless of the item or file size.
More information about these containers can be found here: http://www.free60.or..._File_Container
EDIT2: I just tried the app in Windows XP x86 and I can drag and drop files to the right pane which adds them to the hard drive but I can't drag and drop files out to extract them. It seems there is definitely an issue with the app in Windows 7. I don't know if it's a general Windows 7 issue or a 64-bit issue.
-
OMFG, I thought it had finished, but it had only finished Data0001
Time to cancel? lol
EDIT: A cancel button would be good right about now.
EDIT 2: Same speed issue with rev 10

I'm using this cable
Dxtreme and can't get partition3 to show on any programs (I been through loads)
Now this is out there, new fresh and the owner wants it to work

I am using Windows 7 (64bit) UAC is disabled and program runs with elevated privilages, it detects the disk but just hangs after that (I left it running for about 20mins before giving up)
Build 10 won't start, just crashes straight away, 9 and below startup but nothing really happens.
have you tried other drives with this adapter? Or another adapter with this drive?
Just a thought is there a partition 2 on the drive? If there isn't one or the one there is corrupt it could cause the program to hang.

Rev 10 is amazing! Great work! I love the memo section with the game names. Finally someone is smart enough to implement that on a PC application. Drag and drop to the window works, but is terribly slow. Can we get a time calculator and or file size transferred and total size of file so we have a reference to the progress bar? Thanks man, you rock!

QUOTE(TraJiK @ Apr 12 2010, 10:18 PM)

Spent the last 4 hours attempting a 120GB HDD restore to my 1.5TB drive with Commander, only to have it freeze, and corrupt the HDD once again, making it unreadable. Definitely still some bugs in the restore feature, however, the backup feature seemed to work flawlessly. Took just over 3 hours to backup my FULL 120GB HDD last night. Now that the HDD has been formatted again (using Commander, as well), I've begun transferring folders back to it, most of them transferred quickly (profile folders, fsdata folder, homebrew folders), but the 0000000000000000 folder in 'Content' gave me an out of memory exception error instantly once transfer had initialized. (I'd imagine because it has to do with the fact that the folder is huge in size, > 100 GB) Will have to try and move individual game folders from within 00000... and see if that works.
Rev 10 is another excellent step in the right direction though, and I second the suggestions above, having a time calculator reference added would be another very useful add-on. As well as the option to move files from one HDD to another through the same application. Can't wait to see what you come up with in Rev 11+.
What is the largest file in the folder?

You will need to restore Partition2 using Xplorer360 Extreme2 (get this from a retail M$ drive using Xplorer360 Extreme2) If you are using a non M$ hard drive you will need to add the partitions manually first for Xplorer360 Extreme2 to see the drive. Otherwise you will get a "No fatx partition found" error.
Add the missing partition manually starting at byte 0x80000 of your non M$ Drive. You need to make it look like:
58 54 41 46 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 10 00 00 00 01
So, the easy way to do this: open your drive with winhex( http://www.x-ways.net/winhex.zip) by pressing F9, select yournon M$ drive, press <ALT>+G, use position 80000 (hexadec) and then edit these 16 bytes starting at 0x80000 to look like above. Save it, restart the xplorer360 Extreme 2 and the FATX error should be gone and you should see 2 partitions now.
This info came from thespecialist a while back when he discovered what xplorer360 is looking for and then using xplrer360 Extreme2 restore partiton 2 you backed up from your M$ HDD. You will not be able to see anything in partition 3 with Xplorer360 Extreme2 but I recommend if you google this "FATXplorer 1.0 app developed by Eaton Cracked by Cyrax" you will find a cracked version and it even tells you what game the numbered folders are.
Now you will need to run the Update for Xbox1 Compatibility. you can find this here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en
After downloading this file extract it and burn to a cdr and put it in your 360. it will show like it is a game. play it and install it. (I recommend trying a retail Xbox1 game to make sure it is all ok) Congrats you now have Xbox1 Emulation partiton restored and working.

That file is included in the archive and needs to be in the same directory as the main application.
That file is what allows the app to show game names.

May i suggest something. How about implementing a "read only" mode ? I'm getting my stuff corrupted so much that even an action of backing up saves/profiles sometimes corrupts.
Just yesterday i got my Forza3 saves corrupted and a day before that, while transferring some GODs from the disk to my desktop my profile files just vanished into thin air. Folders remained, but empty. Go figure.
Now i'm starting an experiment - will be using ONLY 360commander for ANY file transfers.
As per common sense i have backed up my saves/profiles and formatted disk on my jtag jasper xbox (16mb board).
I'm not sure anymore what corrupts my drive all the time.
Just for your info, KrK.
Machine i use is custom built by me, and works fine otherwise.
E6600 (stock), 3gb ram, 8800gts 640mb, mboard Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R.
Use ebay bought transfer kit cable.

Thanks. Any info you can give me to track down bugs the better. I am trying to work out some kind of logging system for XBox 360 Commander, but it's not easy. It would have to be something that could be turned on and off and provide useful data. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
I am going to redo the backup/restore compleately I suspect that is bugs there causing problems.
I can add the read only mode in the next rev. that is a good idea.
-
Should I work on adding an Undelete function to XBox 360 Commander? There seems to be a need for it.
-
Probably would be nice, but might be better to get the current features fully functional before throwing another possible problem into the mix (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
My vote would be for something to extract files from the XBC backup containers.

XBox 360 Commander checks for partitions 0 and 3 to verify that it is connecting to a Xbox 360 HDD. You may need to create the partitions 0 and 2 manually.
Xbox 360 Hard Drive Upgrade tells you how to do this.

Sorry to have been out of touch, but real life rears its nasty head. I am currently working 2 jobs, part time nights at Wal Mart and a full time temp job at Dick's Sporting Goods corporate offices. 4 nights and 5 days is probably slowly killing me. I have a problem. I just started using XBOX 360 Commander (Rev. 22) and it works like a charm...but on my friend's desktop computer.
Problem is, it will not work on my own laptop, because, for some reason, it detects the first hitachi drive it can find (my computer has 2 pc formatted hitachi drives), and they never have been used as 360 drives, so they should not have an HDDSS on them.
I've been reading that this fine program should not detect it at all if it doesn't have any sort of HDDSS on it.
I'm unable to currently use this program on my laptop because of this, and it's the main computer I currently use for everything
otherwise, great program!

If you have run HDDHACKR on the laptop it may have written a HDDSS record to the incorrect drive. I had this happen and the drive continued to work for window until I used xplorer360 to restore an image to the hard drive and it chose my pc hard drive and corupted it. You can check this using winhex or simular programs. If a HDDSS record is on the drive just zero fill the sectors where the HDDSS is stored.
This is a commond enough problem that I will add a test for it. Hopefully I can have it in the next rev.
-
I've never run it on this laptop, that i know of, in fact, these are both 500GB drives that i put in way after I even messed with custom xbox hard drives. Just in case though, what am I looking for using winhex (i have it, as I've got a "custom flashed" 120GB xbox 360 hdd).

Hey icepir8icepir8, sorry to bother you with my problem but I think I've really dug myself into a deep hole. I was working on my 360's 20GB Seagate HDD on my PC (trying to get Rockband games saves to load) but things have really gone down hill. The first thing I did before editing it was make a backup image (.xbc) using commander, other then that however I did not back up anything else specifically (like HDDSS, unless that is in the backup). Since then I formatted knowing I had a backup but the backup wasn't restoring in commander (the progress bar would just stay at 0%). I was able to restore the image in Xport 360 although it warned the signatures did not match the destination but I arrogantly disregarded that.
I've now gone to put the HDD in my 360 but it says (No storage devices found) but the HDD is still recognizable in commander and other programs. Is there a way I could restore my HDD back to its original state it was before all my stupidity using the backup? Thanks for your help.

The HDDSS is incorrect for your drive now. You need to restore the original one to the drive. Commander doesn't backup the HDSS when Backing up. This could be and issue for you if you don't have the original because a factory Xbox checks to see if the HDDSS matches your drive and is signed by MS. I have no idea how to recover the HDDSS if you don't have it backed up. You may need to replace your drive.

Is there anyway to restore my backup onto the "new" spare drive that I have? If so then would you mind briefly explaining or if not would there be anyway to restore my backup so I can use it again? All of my saves since I got my 360 when it first came out are on there and so its really important to me...

Did rev did you make the backup with? The latest rev uses a newer format for the backups. The whole idea behind the backups was so that you could transfer files from 1 hdd to another. The fact that Commander is becoming more than that now is effort to make it more useful. If the new drive is less than 250GB you should have no problems restoring from the backup to it.
Before you try to restore the backup make an image file of the hard drive if you have the space. Commander currently does not do this. Next rev will. I used WinHex to make mine. There are other programs that can do this also. If you don't have the free space on your computer to image the drive backup the HDDSS. This is a must. Everything else can be recreated/restored but not the HDDSS for the drive.
How large is the xbc file?

I made the backup with the newest revision (r22 I believe). As I said before, the hard drive is only 20GB but when I try and restore under commander the progress bar doesn't move, it just stays at 0% for an hour. The xbc file is 13.7 GB in size. So are you saying I should try and restore my image (.xbc) to my replacement hdd (after making a backup image and getting the HDDSS.bin from the replacement) and it should work?

Thanks, thats reassuring for the moment. Sorry to bother you with one more question but is there anything I need to do in between backing up the spare drive and restoring the image. For instance, do I need to format the spare drive using commander or the xbox 360 or prepare it in anyway or I can just go right ahead restoring right after backing up the HDDSS of the spare.
Also if the restore just stays at 0% can I use another program (like Xport 360 or winhex) to restore the .xbc?

Thanks, thats reassuring for the moment. Sorry to bother you with one more question but is there anything I need to do in between backing up the spare drive and restoring the image. For instance, do I need to format the spare drive using commander or the xbox 360 or prepare it in anyway or I can just go right ahead restoring right after backing up the HDDSS of the spare.
Also if the restore just stays at 0% can I use another program (like Xport 360 or winhex) to restore the .xbc?
Thanks so much for your help again.
No the xbc file is only understood by Commander.
you can make a copy of the image file and open it with commander then do the restore into the copied image file. then you can restore the new image back into the hdd. But make sure you have an unaltered image file for backup.
-
A nice little side effect of the new backup/restore.
Do a backup of your drive. Then immediately do a restore from the new backup.
Woo-la! Your HDD has been defragged.

After some more testing I will release rev 23. tonight or tomorrow. I think I've fixed the Win7 64bit Drag and Drop problem!
-
Just released rev 23. Now I want to hear how great it is. lol
-
and drag & drop is still not working under win 7 x64. how about a simple insert file/extract file command on the right-click menu ? like in the modio hdd explorer. but modio sucks because it takes a minute to start. xbox360Commander is the fastest hdd explorer i've seen so far but it doesn't work for me.
-
great little app here, icepir8icepir8. there was no hiccups transferring from 20gb to 250gb. only 1 issue though - I thought that it would backup partition 2 (xbox 1 compatibilty) during full backup to image. but ..it's not that important.
-
I've got the same issue with it detecting my actual HDD in my PC. How do I find if it has an HDSS? I need to get rid of it so I can open my 360 drive
EDIT: I fixed it. Just downloaded the 120GB HDDSS.bin file and opened it in Winhex then searched for the first line in the HD it was detecting wrong and zero'd it out... working great now!
-
Its good to hear when things work good. The bug reports are need and help, but there are times you need to hear things are working. You can get so beat down thing no one is having success and you fell like just quiting.
Special thanks to those who show their appreciation by a donation. I lets me know they found value in what I do.
I think the next rev will have the detection by HDDS check removed. It is not really needed and it cause problems for some users. Also looking into adding USB virtual drive support.
It would be really nice if somebody could do a review of all the programs like XBox 360 Commander. Then ppl could make a better choice when they need to. Plus I would like to see how XBox 360 Commander compares to the others out there.
-
Many thanks for your application. I donate to you, you deserve it!
I just installed in my windows (win 7 64 bits) and seems to be OK, my XBOX 60GB HDD was recognized. However how to transfer the files that is currently in my computer HDD? I tried copy/paste but unsuccessfully. I only can see the XBOX HDD in the Xbox commander and no other HDD so how to transfer the files from one HDD to another? Sorry my doubt seems pretty basic
but I just start into the jtag business, hehe

If Drag and drop of files is not working for you, try turning off the UAC. I thought I had that fixed, but some ppl are still having problems with it.

Request: when delete action selected, any chance of some kind of progress or activity indicator? Delete seems to take quite a bit of time for even say 20 files and no indication of if things are going or not until the delete completes and the screen refreshes.
Thanks.

I've got Windows 7 64 bit installed on my machine and for some reason, the program freezes when I want to make a backup of my 120GB HDD. It does recognize it and displays the contents, but it will not do anything else.
Should I wait for a while to give it a chance or should it start transfering right away ?
Thanks.

Yes it will work with the 40gb drive. I have not tested with that size drive but there is no reason for it not to work. You will get an error that the HDSS size does not match the physical size. just answer yes or select to use the physical(actual) size of the drive.

Yes.
If you do a backup of the 20gb drive then restore to the 120gb drive. This method will wipe the files from the 120gb before restoring the files from the backup. So save any files you need by copying them off before the restore and copy them back onn after the restore.
-
WBones, how did you go about finding the line to edit in your Hard Disk? I checked an official hdd120.bin and neither of my actual pc drives have any lines in common with that. If anything it would, in fact, be the hdd120.bin that's the culprit, and not any of the other sizes, but again, I doubt i've actually ever ran to completion the HDDHackr software on this laptop, and definitely not with at least one of these drives.
Any help is appreciated, as I do not realistically expect an update of the software just to solve my very minor problem.
I've VERY successfully used this program on my friends computer, and it works FAST! So it's definitely a great program. just want to get it working on my own computer. Gonna be using this awesome program to transfer my 120GB drive to the slim xbox's 250GB drive, when I get one shortly.
-
you can get the program to support transfer between two xbox360 drives (fatx) and support all hard drive sizes as for example 1TB \ 1.5 tb \ 2TB?
-
Thank you, icepir8icepir8, WBones and all else who posted on checking for the hdss sectors
!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was a very risky move on my part, but I went and found the offsets, marked the block and filled it with 0s! Now it's no longer detecting the PC hard drive, and I even made sure to restart to check if I damaged anything important. Everything went smoothly, and I can now see my xbox hard drive and all its glorious content
. This was actually kinda good, cuz it helped me to stop being lazy and finally make a current image of my PC
The program rocks, and this community's (and your own) help is stellar! Now all I have to figure out is where two off my xbla games went
But at least now I can.
-
Also, I can confirm that drag-and-drop is still not working under win7 x64. So how would I transfer to my drive then? I ALWAYS have UAC off (I have protection, don't worry), plus I set the program's compatibility option to run it in admin mode. Still no luck
But I see that's a big "to-do", so i'll quietly wait for an update now. Making great strides here, people, and I'm learning a lot

What's the problem?

Hi,
Can someone explain what is the diference of a backup and restore,
and the create and reload image file.
I want to move from a official 20gb HDD to a official 120gb HDD,
do you guys recomend a backup and restore and create a image
and restore image to the new 120gb?
Thanks icepir8icepir8 for the excelent program.

@martin: was your xbox previously banned from going online? because getting banned puts a flag in your profile that corrupts it when you use it on another box or, in your case, switch to another hard drive. at least that's what i'm guessing. you could probably use the con flag remover utility, and then the hash block calculator to fix it. Unless there's an entirely different reason for corruption.
boy, is my face red now. I went to the windows Action Center to check UAC settings. And they were set to the lowest (I'm pretty sure that means off, the bottom of the slider), then when I clicked ok, it was telling me to restart, although I hadn't changed anything. When I restarted my computer later, I was suddenly able to drag-and-drop into our fine program...... go figure? Ah well, all's well now! So your fix did work, icepir8icepir8. I guess "you're doing it wrong" applies to all those who it's not working for under win7 x64.
All my problems are solved now.

Good to hear you got it working. But the fix I was working on should mean that you did not need turn down the UAC. But it doesn't work as expected.
On the brighter side XBox 360 Commander has a web site now. XBox 360 Commander web page Thanks to GruntLord for setting this up.

Yes, I support the larger drives. To make sure XB0x 360 Commander sees the drive it needs to have a HDDSS record or both Cache and Data FATX partitions.
-
I succesfully can use my 500 gb hdd on xbox 360 commander. simply pressing on detection two times no.
It takes some time, but then it has all data
I suggest to implement an simple ftp to dial directly into the xbox360 using xexmenu to transfer all
data from the hdd plugged in the pc to the new consoles hdd.
Using Backup works only if drives size is the same, when its bigger, it still restores the data but the new larger drive is fixed on the old size.
Alternative allowing two hdd's to connect to xbox 360 commander and copy the data norton commander style would be also great.

1) Does latest version:.023 have any compression scheme to shrink these Commander backups down so we don't waste 120gig of space on our PC hardrives? Is this even possible?
2) Why doesn't that new web site you just promoted have direct download links for your frequent montly updates? (or direct links via Rapidshare at the very least)?
note: a strong suggestion is immediate integration into next program update to include: "LIVE-ON THE FLY" updates. This is not only highly recommended, it is essential for emerging freeware XBOX360 drive utlities, such as this one, especially if you wnat to avoid cronic user errors. You need to force people to STOP using older versions which can still corrupt their 360 drive. DO NOT LET USERS RELY ON XBINS FOR UPDATES AND STOP POSTING DOWNLOAD LINKS IN THIS 30 PAGE THREAD!
3) What is the status of CHECK DISK and DEFRAG?
note: These are not just nice options, they are far more important that focusing support for 3rd party JTAG drives. There are NOT that many JTAG hackers out there, and should not be a driving motivational force. You need to get DEFRAG working without having to do a full RESTORATION/BACKUP...and you must NOT forget to included bad block isolation/quarantine capabilities.
I think your getting a little too preoccupied with supporting JTAG drives and that is less than 1% of the community. Your closing the gap with what we could do about 4 years ago on our PS2 internal OEM hard drives back with the April 2006 freeware release: WINHIIP v1.76.

Still on the todo list. Again time is an issue. These are complex jobs that can wipe out your HDD if not handled correctly.

Like I said above. I have to make sure they work correctly. I also have been working on a test for soft errors on the HDD. What I mean is sectors that can be read but take some retries to do it. It will pass a normal surface check because the HDD has a hardware retry that means it may take awhile but the sector is read and no errors are reported to Windows but it takes a long time to get the data.

"The squeaky wheel gets the grease." If 90% of the feedback comes from JTAG users it looks like they are the major users of the program. So if non-JTAG users want me to work on issues and features they need to let me know.
Cheers!

ok, just wanna be sure that this is normal behaviour:
dragging stuff onto the hdd is quite slow "per file", actual transfer speed seems to be nice, but there's apparently a huge overhead because of file positioning or whatever, so it will take a lot of time between transfering individual files. right?
also, theres no "inject" function, only drag&drop, right again? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Right about the inject.

ok, gave it another try: i tried to copy something over, ~3.5GB of data and its running for over 30 minutes now.
i guess theres something going wrong there, i don't know how much it actually copied by now but it doesn't seem to be much...
just tried to copy one bigger file, 700mb went to the hdd in no time at all, so it could be three reasons:
- having multiple files in queue messes stuff up
- "calculating" placement etc takes A LOT of time
- the external drive as file source isn't a good idea...
gonna do some further testing now...

I tried copying a directory created by Iso2God. It took just under 10 minutes to copy 7.6GB to my HDD. I am using a 120GB HDD for testing.
Make sure none of the files you are copying are bigger than 2GB. This is a limit of the FATX file system. I am not sure if I trap that error. I will check my code to see. I don't know what will happen if it is not being caught. probably something nasty. Let me know. I also copied all six seasons of medium to the HDD it was over 47GB and it took a little over an hour to copy them all. Every one copied correctly.
-
iso2god produces only few but large files i guess?
the problem seems to come up with lots of small files. i just copied a folder holding a lot of small files totaling ~840MB and it took nearly 15 minutes to do that.
single bigger files are going fast, didn't test a lot of big files in one batch though so i can't say if its "a lot of small files" or just "a lot of files".
also, i guess you already know, but there still are problems with drag and drop with enabled UAC...

I see what you are getting at. When a file is created in a directory I write that immeadiatly to the HDD. So a bunch of small files would cause some thrashing on the hdd write the directory entry, write file to HDD, write next directory entry. and so forth. I probably can fix it so that doesn't happen at the risk of corrupting the HDD if it is disconnected in during the copy proccess. But then It could happen anyway.
I will looking to it.

I will look into this. At this time there is no way to unpack the files from a backup. I will probably release a utility to do this later. Or release the file specs for the xbc files.

I'm not sure if this is by design or if you would even be willing to add this functionality but when i use xbox360 commander it does not recognize my 20GB xbox360 drive connected through USB (Microsoft transfer cable) while xplorer360 recognizes the drive fine. You are running Xbox Commander as administrator if running in Vista or Win 7.
I use the transfer cable myself and Xbox Commander can see my 250GB drive just fine.

you must run XBox 360 Commander as administrator. If you don't have adminstrator rights then XBox Commander cannot write to the HDD.

Thanks for this. Spotted this topic today. So sick and tired of messing with 3 versions of xplorer360 for 250GB harddrive. Looking forward to testing this out in a few hours time. Will post my feedback
Thanks!

Wow dude nice work indeed! Seriously fuck Xplorer360! I hate it
Your program is working awesomely! No more FAT-X errors like with Xplorer360!
Have noticed on a few occasions trying to delete a folder, and it doesn't delete. No matter how many times I say delete. Then when I try transfer files and a folder that would overwrite that folder, the overwrite fails and none of the other files in the queue get transferred either!
But so far I'm really like this app! Let me check my finances and I'll see if I can make a donation

Hi
I'm using rev 23 and there seem to be a couple of issues. I transfered all my Rock Band music using this program, it was around 1000 songs. Ok so I don't know why I did this but I double clicked the folder my music was in on the right pane of the program instead of the left and it gave me and error and locked up the program. I shutdown the program and restarted it and there were significantly less files showing up. I then booted up the game but they were still apparently on the drive, they showed up on memory and in the game just not the program. Just wondering what's up with that? Is there any way to get the files to show up again?
Deleting files is slow so it would be nice to have a status screen like the one while transferring files.
Even with this problem your program is the most stable and fast that I've come across.
What error did it give you? I will try to reproduce the problem here. double clicking on the folder in the right pane should have changed the view to that folder.
-
Hello, picking the Backup option causes the program to "lockup" during the time that it is creating the backup..thats probably not what one would want .. some kind of progress measure would be better. When it's actually done with the backup it tells me 100% done (or something similar) but the only way to het rid of that message is to press the ABORT button while one should have expected a DONE or CLOSE button or something.
I also have a little question: when doing a Check Hard Drive your program found 68 Errors on my 20 GB hard drive. Is it perfectly safe to actually repair those with your program? Is it "normal" a 360 hd has that many errors after a certain time? They seem cross linked files most of the time.
Thanks for answering this.
-
I have a problem.
I used your program to extract and replace a profile and a savegame. After I was done no profiles showed up on the xbox. Now your program says my content folder is blank.
The hdd shows up on the xbox with 52GB free storage but when I open it it says 0 kb on everything.
The HDD is 120GB original MS drive.
-
QUOTE(kenshinesca @ Aug 1 2010, 05:32 PM)

I thought it would change the view to see what was in the folder. I can't really remember what the error it said. I should have wrote it down. I don't really want to try and recreate the error myself. It was just after opening up the program, and navigating through the folders.
You were correct in that it should have changed the view to the new folder. At this time the check hard disk just reports errors and the Fix errors button does nothing. I hope to get that working soon. But since it is a cridical function I want to make sure it is 100% before releasing it.
I am currently working 2 jobs so my time to work is very limited. Be patient with me and I will make the best program avalible.

Pardon my newb question but there are 2 backup options correct? Backup and create image from hard drive. Just trying to figure out what the difference is between the two, and which one to use. I am transferring a ton of RB songs and by the time I get done I'll have around 40-50 GB worth of data on the drive so which should I use the backup option or the create image from hard drive.
Also about how long will each take? Are both necessary?
Again sorry for the newb questions but I just don't want to have to manually transfer all these files again.

The creat image is a raw copy of your hdd. So if you have a 60gb HDD the file will be 60gb in size. The back up only copies the files and directories so if you have 20gb of data in use on the 60gb hdd your file will be only 20gb in size.
You can open the creat image file like you would a hdd and extract files and directories without changing your hdd.

I believe from your description that the clustermap is corrupt and that one of the entries points to a cluster that doesn't exist on the hdd. So XBox 360 Commander is caught in a endless loop of trying to read it and failing then retrying. I have to go though the code and verify that.
As I have said above the repair disk button is not working yet. I want it to be working 100% before I release that function because of the potential damage it could do.
If you delete the files listed by the check hard drive the backup should work. But create an imagefile of the HDD before you do anythiong like that. The create image makes an exact copy of the HDD so that nothing can be lost.

it would be super if you could throw together a simple extract prog for .xbc so I can get my save files back. tried multiple versions to restore my backup but no result.

Hello
I have a 320GB internal HDD on an Xbox jtag (296 GB formatted NXE)
Connected to PC by transfer kit x360, it is recognized "Partition1" with Xbox360 ordering rev 23 but I can not be acceded. (I'm on Windows 7 Integral)
It seems that we must create partiton 1/2/3? how? I don't backup HDD 20GB Official
Thank you

Drag and drop still not fixed in windows 7 x64, please just add right click sub menu, with an insert option.

thnx ice...
I tried to move a complete set of title updates (~750 files) to a JTAG and a banned consoles, teh files are small (~600K-1MB), the process was very slow. I was able to ftp it to my JTAG, but obviously I cant do that on my banned non JTAG console...
I would appreciate it if you thought of a solution to speed up the process of transferring smaller files...
thnx,

I was wondering how exactly the 1 click transferred wizard works, I try and follow the on screen instructions.
After I press next, I get prompted to open a file I type in any name but it says file not found. Is there something I am doing wrong? I ended up just doing a sector backup.

Hmmm.. The new backup file format may have broken this feature. I will check it out and fix the problem.

I am using rev 23 and I still can not drag and drop into the right pane.

(perhaps move this to troubleshooting)
i opened up X360 commander b23 with my USB transfer cable, an error popped up with calculated HDD size not being correct, and it offered to fix this. naturally i said no, but after the program crashed while loading the cache folder, i reopened X360 commander, and by accident, it opened up the same dialog box, but i clicked the fix option by mistake.
thus, resulting in a damaged partition 3, and a backup HDDSS.bin file, 3,584 bytes
i was not amused to see this, as i would like to get some of the data back before i wipe/format the drive, somehow. can anyone point me towards a way to recover the partition 3 data, or to replace the HDDSS in windows ? or do i have to go back to HDDHACKR and redo the SATA HDD firmware ?
i do have a 20gb and 120gb official HDD to recover partition data from, but i can't really work out what happened, as i recently FTP'd the old HDD content onto a formatted 250gb, and never really had a problem accessing data locally.

Has there been more thought/progress on a utility to extract the backups made by the program?

Use winhex or simular program to copy the HDDSS.bin backup to the HDD starting at sector 16(byte offset 0x4000). This will undo the changes made by fix HDD size.

How's the next release coming along? I'd really like to be able to add files and folders to my hard drive since Xplorer360 stopped recognizing my drive.

Hello again.
Long time since i posted.
Well, the time came to fix the screwed up file system by dumping my GOD/Profile stuff and reformatting.
The major issues since r21 still persist.
1. Its slow as a dead one legged dog, takes forever to transfer files;
2. I still get ALL files and folders knocked back to 30-11-1979, even though dumps have current and proper dates.
Setup is:
E6600 @ Stock
4Gb pc2-6400 ram
Nv GTX480
Windows 7 32bit.

I am working on the speed issue I know what is causing it. The Add file to directory is writing the directory to the HDD for each file added. so a lot of small files causes the directory to be written alot compared to the size of the file. Large file spend the most of the time writing the file so they are much faster.
have to check the date issue out.

Did you make a backup before you added the files? It looks like the root directory got corrupted. Without a backup there is not much you can do. Some data maybe recoverablem but it would be a lot of manual work.

Sorry to hear that. I think I will add a warning upon starting XBox Commander to do a backup before you do anything else.
Hit the big five-O today. LOL

QUOTE(BiohazrD @ Dec 2 2010, 04:41 AM)

Could you add some documentation? I'm a little confused as to what most of the options do.
For example:
With the backup option, does it backup the whole drive, or just the selected partition/files?
The backup option only backs up the data partition.
QUOTE(BiohazrD @ Dec 2 2010, 04:41 AM)

Can this backup be restored to a different drive?
Yes. It will overwrite any data on the target drive.
QUOTE(BiohazrD @ Dec 2 2010, 04:41 AM)

What about a different size drive?
Yes you can restore to a different size drive. But if the target drive is smaller than the backup it will corrupt the drive.
QUOTE(BiohazrD @ Dec 2 2010, 04:41 AM)

What about creating or restoring from images?
Under the tools menu there are Create Image from Hard Drive and Load Image to Hard Drive.
Create Image from Hard Drive copies the complete Hard Drive to an image file on your PC. This is an exact copy of the drive.
Load Image to Hard Drive copies the image file to the hard drive. This overwrites the hard drive completely. No error check at this time. Copying an image to a hard drive must be to the same size drive that it was created from. Also if the new hard drive serial number and model information does not match the image file it will not be reconized by a non-jtagged Xbox.
QUOTE(BiohazrD @ Dec 2 2010, 04:41 AM)

For the one click transfer, it asks me to pick a folder. What folder?
It should only ask that when it does not detect a physical Xbox hard drive.
QUOTE(BiohazrD @ Dec 2 2010, 04:41 AM)

The drive is connected to my PC but I obviously can't browse to it through Explorer. Does the one click transfer support transferring between two different size drives?
Yes same as the backup.
QUOTE(BiohazrD @ Dec 2 2010, 04:41 AM)

When I error check, what exactly are the errors? I see a whole lot of text but I have no way of telling exactly what files the program has determined have errors.

Allocation - File size mismatch in st.db
Checking .\Compatibility\Xbox1\TDATA\4c41001a\
Checking .\Compatibility\Xbox1\UDATA\
I have highlighted the error in red. The log tells you what directory or file it is checking and reports the erre when as it finds them.
At the end it will report how many error it found.
QUOTE(BiohazrD @ Dec 2 2010, 04:41 AM)

Don't get me wrong, this is far and away the best program for working with my hard drives, I just think you could clarify the options a bit.
Sorry but documenting was a low priority. I wanted to get the errors fixed first.

I am using the latest version. It doesen't want to see my hard drive at all. I am using Win7 64 bit and when I hit open disk, well nothing happens.
Any idea if theres an update for this or is this the last and final version?
Oh and sorry for an old bump, I just got ton of hard drives that I can use this on only if it worked.
-
No idea why you get this problem. But you can sleep safe knowing that you wouldn't be able to use this on x64 W7 anyway. Even if it would detect your drive, the only way to add files to it is via drag and drop. That doesn't work in W7. You can't drag and drop files onto apps run as admin. Using XP looks like the only way as I haven't found a tool that works for me under W7.

Awesome.

I need a little help with my backup icepir8icepir8. I'm using rev 23 on my hitachi 500gb, after a few freeze during restore at around 10% I opted for the fix hddss option. However it still freezes at around 10%. The backup was 100% and complete. How do I obtain the error log? Please help because I have 150gb worth of data on that drive!

The is the error log that windows made after I try to access the program after the freeze:
