HDDHackr v1.22 Build 20091022Posted by XanTium | October 23 22:02 EST | News Category: Xbox360 |
| |
Team MODFREAKz released a new version of HDDHackr(info), a tool that allows you to use some Western Digital laptop HDDs as Xbox 360 HDD.
What's new/fixed (since v1.00 Build 20090523): * Added support for the Western Digital Scorpio Series manufactured 2009 (v1.22) * Fixed issue with Intel ICH9, ICH10 and VIA chipsets (v1.20) * Implemented progress bar (v1.20) * Added support for 80GB and 250GB HDDs (HDDSS.BIN required) (v1.20) * Fixed issue, that sometimes caused flashing of Model Name to incorrect offset. (v1.11) * Added option to create Partitions 0/2/3 (no more manual hex editing) (v1.10) * Bug fixed, that caused errors like "LBA size does not match" (v1.10) * Improved compatibility (v1.10) * Minor changes (v1.10)

Sweet. But I think there is a typo here, shouldn't it be
* Added support for 60GB and 250GB HDDs (HDDSS.BIN required) (v1.20)
?
-
Now we just need that precious file (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy.gif)

250gb HDDSS.BIN file here I come. ... Wait more waiting always have to wait for something.
-
It already had support for 60GB right?
-
No, they mean 80gGB HDDS, this way you can take a spare 80GB HDD and use it as a 60GB. The same way you could take a 160GB and use it as a 120GB.
-
This program doesn't work on Windows 7 64-bit. I get an error that it isn't compatible. Most likely this program is compiled as a 16-bit program. Can we get the program compiled so that it is 32-bit code?

Learn to read the article... It can only be run from a bootable usb thumb drive in dos...

Cool, once the 250gb hddss.bin comes out (and assuming microsoft doesnt block non-oem hdds in that memory block out they are doing) I am going to get a scorpio hdd off newegg later on. It says it works with all hdds in the scorpio line, does that mean blue and black? Would there be any benefit of running a 7200rpm drive in the 360? Will games on the hdd load faster or is everything coded to only take advantage of 5400rpm drives?
-
cool just in time to be redundant.... ??
-
250 GB.. sweet!
-
ahhh, noice with adding partition 2... I just learned how to do this and had to re-do like 4 or so.
-
Does the extra partitions do anything besides Xbox1 games?
-
Got a 250 scorpio already setup as a 120 in my live box, cant wait for the 250hddss.bin
-
Can you modify an existing hddss.bin to recognize 250gb? Changing the values from 120gb to 250gb
-
The 80GB refers to a developer hard drive and not the fact that you can use a 80GB drive for a 60GB hddss.bin. That's always been possible.
Partiton 0 is cache, partition 2 is emulator but HDDHackr just creates the partition. You still need to inject the emulator yourself.
You can't modify a hddss.bin. Each bin will give you 20GB, 60GB, 80GB, 120GB or 250GB and you need the corresponding file for that.
-
how can they know 250gb is going to be compatible when it is not even out yet...
-
Thx for the new tool, much appreciated! I bet they added a new security that will try and prevent a dump. After all its ms were dealing with (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
Btw the forza 3 pack is allready on the market since yesterday.

Which of these 2 drives will work/will work better (with a valid hddss.bin):
Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD2500BEVS
or
Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD2500BEVT
Also, someone banned already with a home-made Xbox 360 harddisk?
Thank you.

This program is very pointless as the new last.fm/facebook dash update next month will stop all non microsoft storage devices, enjoy your $$$ harddrive for another few weeks guys
-
Pretty sure that only applies to that one 3rd party memory card that lets you use microsd cards.
The hddss.bin holds the microsoft signature needed for the drive to be recognized by the xbox. So how is this new update going to render our drives useless?

er nope, I have the update here as I'm part of the preview. It only stops Datel Max Memory from working. Hacked hard drives still work fine.

exactly. his name is devils360. he blatantly advertised his website on XBH and caused a stir, by calling people who requested the hddss freeloaders, when he's selling it on website redboxmods for 85GBP... he argumented he did not want to share the hddss with the public due to the -private- info getting public .. heh funny guy right
anyway let's hope someone else will share, i too am running a WD2500BEVT with 120gb hddss
this app is the best!, we should all be very appreciative with the support HDDhackr has been giving us! even tho some use it for own beneficial, selling it online! ashamed!

I'm running the new dash right now as part of the pilot programme with a home-made HDD. You're forgetting that the HDDSS.bin file MAKES it a Microsoft storage device. It's the MaxMemory devices which will be locked out.

Is there any unique serial number or something in the hddss.bin that M$ could use to identify cloned drives?

i believe so, but i'm not 100% positive. regardless, the make your own harddrive method has been used for years, and nothing bad has happened to anyone. if you are really paranoid, dump the hddss.bin from a 250 gig drive yourself instead of using the one that will end up on the internet, and used by everyone else.

Dumping the hddss.bin is my plan (I have access to original 250GB hdds').
A new WD 250GB hdd only costs 45€ and an empty hdd case 8€ (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)
I can easily get 60€ of my old and original 120GB hdd.

Yes, the drives serial is stored in hdss.bin.
Yes, it is trivial for ms to detect this.
No, they haven't done any thing about it yet.

If we can make a 250GB drive for under £50 - who knows how much they're making them for.

No it hasn't been impposible. You can use 160GB harddrives for the 120GB hddss.bin, but you only get 120GB, you lose 40GB. So in this case the 80GB drive will lose 20GBs and only show up as a 60GB.
-
I just checked, out of curiosity, by dumping my 120gb HDD from an Elite360 and comparing it to a 120gb ss.bin I found on the web and they match exactly.
So maybe MS uses the same info on every drive they manufacture.

Then you did something wrong there, the first 0x160 bytes are different.
You can clearly see the unique serial number any drive has in the first few bytes, the rest is a unique M$ signature.

It's faster (shorter loading times) but cost more, heats up more and is noisier.
What's the rpm of original hdds'?

Is it possible to buy a 250GB BEVT harddisk, use the 120GB hddss.bin and then use it. And if the 250GB hddss.bin has been released, back up my 120GB harddisk, insert te new 250GB hddss.bin and then restore the backup image?

Same here, I just ordered a WD3200BEVT from newegg so I could use it as a 120 or 250 GB hard drive for my 360. It should work, shouldn't it? It says it should in the Hddhackr readme:

- WD Scorpio Blue Series BEVS/BEVT
- WD Scorpio Black Series BEKT/BJKT

The 320GB version was priced down so it cost just as much, or less, than the 250GB & 120GB versions (at the time I bought it), plus it came with free shipping.

I'm pretty sure that its 5400rpm, and i was just wondering if the 360 is anything like the ps3, where it is coded to only take advantage of the speed of a 5400rpm drive. From what i read it is worthless putting in a 7200rpm drive in a ps3 because there would be no increase in performance and I was wondering if its the same for the 360.
If I get faster load times then i will drop the extra cash for a 7200rpm drive.
-
If there is a difference, it probably won't be hugely noticable. The 360 only has a SATA 150 interface, and you'd need SATA 300 to take advantage of 7200 drives. But it is useful for backing up to a pc, as it's a fair bit quicker.
Got the WD3200BEKT cause it was on Amazon for £41

Probably because the 320GB costs less than the 250GB.
Plus you have an extra 70GB that can be used if a 320GB ss.bin comes out.

Hey guys..
I'm having an issue here. I have two (2) WD1200BEVT drives I'm trying to format to replace the two 20GB Microsoft OEM POS drives that went belly-up. I downloaded hddhackr 1.22, made the bootable USB stick with Bootable USB Drive Creator Tool v1.0. I checked the tick box for Create Bootable Drive in that program, went to the browse button, selected the MS-DOS files that were downloaded with the program and formatted. Then I copied the hddhackr.exe and the hddss.bin file I got from xbins onto the stick. Iam running Windows 7 Ultimate.
Once I boot up into MS-DOS mode with the stick, everything goes good until I get to the flashing point. I get the infamous Fujitsu/WD warning sector 16 warning, select to flash anyway, and get greeted with an indefinite, blinking underscore cursor (i.e. "_").
What the hell am I doing wrong? I've spent 4 hours searching, and I'm tired. So I apologize if this is something simple. If that's the case, copy a link and I'll disappear.
Thanks in advance. This site and you guys always come through.

What are you smoking? Aside from multi-drive RAID 0 setups and some SSD's, no standard HDD can sustain high enough transfers to saturate SATA 1. SATA 1 can hit ~150 MB/s sustained transfer!

a mem card or even max memory (if you haven't got the preview!) will let you move partition 3 data.

Ive been holding off hacking a drive for a year now, I think now is the time to hack a 250gig though as I don’t think Microsoft are going to released a bigger drive for a long while now.
I've been in that situation & was thankfully able to get out of it asap

Put the hddhackr program on a floppy or USB boot disk along with the 250gb hddss.bin. Boot into dos and type hddhackr. It will scan for your drive. Once it finds it choose the number corresponding to your drive (it may be a good idea to unplug all your other drives). Then type the name of the hddss.bin file then type the name of your undo file. You can select to have it go ahead and format the partitions as well.
Now sit back and wait a few seconds and you should be all good to go.

I just got home from work. Awesome, bin file is out. I'm about to order this 250 gb hd.
Sounds like it will work from the 1 customer review. Anybody else find one for less.

This one is only five bucks more and is a 7200 RPM drive. I just ordered it, ver 1.22 claims to work with it. I'll post here if it does.

Might have to try this with the spare 320GB I have. Doing the first copy from the 20gb to the 120gb was a big pain with all the save files that didn't want to make the jump. Would really be nice to hurry and hit the 500gb mark with the HD loading option.

I had deleted everything except my savegames off the 20GB. at first it didn't recognize it, it said to plug it in, so I unplugged the 250GB and plugged it back in. it took 44 minutes to copy. it said some data was corrupt and wasn't copied, but all my stuff is on the 250GB now. gotta love it.

Got that exact drive from newegg today in the mail. It was very easy to use hddhacker with this drive, just make sure you dont have AHCI enabled in bios. Copied everything from my 120gb using the ms transfer cable and dvd, and now i'm ripping some games back to the drive.

I received the same drive from newegg today as well, but unfortunately it won't work for me.
It gave me a message saying it was successful but when I put it into my 360 it just says that no hard drive is connected. Ran the undo.bin to restore the drive and then ran the 250gb bin file but same thing my 360 doesn't detect the hdd at all.
I'm probably overlooking something so some input would be nice.

Dont really have any advice, other then maybe try a different sata port or different computer all together. I flashed mine on a gigabyte ma790x-ud4p that has the AMD 790x chipset controlling the sata ports. I unplugged everything connected to sata, hooked up the western digital hard drive, went into bios and disabled AHCI on all ports, booted into dos, ran hddhacker and let it scan all my the ports, selected the port with the drive connected, typed "f" and put in the name of the hddss.bin file, then typed in undo.bin, then it went on its way. Then it told me to wait 10 seconds, i waited a little long, then shut down my computer, unplugged the hdd and put it into the hdd case and plugged it into my 360 and it recognized it right away.
On a side note i'm glad I got a 7200rpm drive. Ripping games to it takes a considerable less amount of time.

Well mine didn't. Tried plugging it in on the back and front and tried unplugging a million times. It still stalled at the "plug-in screen". Tried installing 120GB image on the disk and the installation proceeded the first time. Did the 250GB image again and no luck.
Either my transfer kit only recognises up to 120GB drives or the software on the green disc is older than what you get now.

Why does everyone think that because its it sata 1.5 that these drives can actually FILL all that bandwidth? A single Sata 3.0 drive doesnt even fill 150mb/s which is what sata 1.5 is supposed to be. I have 2 samsung F1 1tb hdds hooked up in raid0 to my raid card that has 512mb of ram, and when i transfer stuff to or from that array it gets up to about 180mb/s but only until all the ram on that card gets filled up, then it drops down to a steady 80-90mb/s. I'll go run a quick benchmark since i still have my ms 120gb in another case so i can just swap them out, i'll install the same game to both hard drives and see how long it takes
-
If someone would PM/email me their undo.bin for the WD3200BEKT (or whatever is worth trying) I would be grateful. [email protected] let me know if this isn't kosher.
I typed in undo.bin when it asked for a backup filename, but it never wrote anything to the flash drive. Said it was successfully backed up, so I never checked. This was on an ICH9 Gigabyte motherboard. Don't know how or why the flashing itself failed because everything showed up just fine beforehand. Now the drive shows up in the program, but has nothing next to all the fields/name etc.
When I used the program to do my 120gb it went so well (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) Oh well, user idiocy strikes again.

has anyone use this hd
250gb wd2500BEVT (wd scorpio blue)
and is there a nice tutorial to use this software?
-
For those who asked earlier in this thread I can confirm that a WD3200BEVT Scorpio Blue does indeed work without issues.
I copied my partitions data from my 120GB drive using Xplorer360_09b6_120GB to the desktop of my PC, then used Xplorer360_250GB_Edition to copy my data from PC to newly created 250GB drive.
Haven't done a bunch with it yet but copy some games to HDD but 1 thing I came across so far was loading my saved game of Smackdown Vs. Raw 2010 failed. So I moved it from HDD to internal 256MB memory then back to HDD fixed it. Just a heads up because there is no telling how many games will require this same kind of fix.

doesn't the software automatically build the partitions?

just thinking, since the first 0x160 bytes have the drive serial # it is possible to edit those bytes and put a made up serial that way it wont be the same as the others with the same ss.bin have ?

Hello all,
Im pretty desperate since my xbox 360 doenst read my original 120gb drive anymore (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)
I tried allmost everything i can think off. Tried reformatting on the xbox360 (impossible since the xbox wont read it anymore) Tried to flash it with hddhackr (impossible to since it is the official fujitsu hdd).
When i try to read the hard-drive with xplorer360 extreme, it says it cant find a FATX drive, so that means that my hard-drive doesnt have a fatx partition anymore.
//edit: for some reason my windows created a partition on the hard-drive itself, that's why i formatted the hard-drive in windows....
Is there any way to reformat my hdd and get it back to FATX?
or is there any way to "mod" hddhackr and flash my drive with the original hddss.bin from my fujitsu hdd?

Flashing a stock HDD and formatting it with windows has probably killed it. The only thing I can think of (providing it has the original FW flashed to it) is to delete the partition so that the drive is blank (unallocated, as it was when you took it out of the bag) and try hddhackr (don't forget to have the appropriate size hddss.bin in there too) from a usb boot disk. Type 'hddhackr' at the command prompt and hope it shows your drive in the list of devices.
The flashing process needs to be done TWICE. The first time flashes sector 16-22 and the drive will then disconnect. Reboot and flash again. Hddhackr will then partition the drive ready to be formatted by the 360 (for which you need the CONSOLE serial number (can be found in system info on the console settings).
As for having the Explorer360 error "cant find a FATX drive", unplug any/all USB pen/hdd drives and reboot, connecting the 360 HDD drive by SATA AFTER windows starts.

One question. I previously flashed a 250GB WD hard drive with the 120 GB hdss.bin. This was before the 250GB hdss.bin came out. Now, I want to upgrade to the full 250 gigs. Can I just re-flash with the 250GB hdss.bin using hddhackr? Or would I need to use undo.bin first, restore the original the Western Digital firmware, THEN reflash to the 250 GB hdss.bin?

Yes just place hddhackr and the hddss.bin file in the usb. when you download the hddss file it will be named like this HDDSS_250GB. Rename it to hddss.bin then put it in the usb. Here is a good tut to make a bootable usb just incase you need one. http://www.bay-wolf.com/usbmemstick.htm

Except Forza 3 save games don't work anymore, I did read that this was also the case with Forza 2. I'm looking to borrow a memory unit now from someone for the save game transfer.
Quoting myself lol... Anyway upgraded the HD now to a WD2500BEKT 250 GB. Forza 3 also works now after transferring the save game (and all other Forza 3 files) with a memory unit. The 160GB HD will go into a friends 360. Does anyone know of a site with info about which games don't work after the upgrade, and which requires a MU?
The games I remember which don't work (and which he has) are Fable 2, Forza 2, Forza 3. He doesn't have any rockband game or such, or some game freefighter or summit.
How to install Forza 3 on new HD
To get Forza 3 to ask if you want to install everything from disk 2 is to make sure you don't have any save game from this game yet on your new HD. If it was copied over with the HD image, delete every Forza 3 save file from your new HD (like save game, ghosts, replays and so on).
Install Forza 3 to HD, say yes to also install disk 2.
When it's done the game will autostart (and you can let it download the update for the game or do this later). Quit the game, delete the save game it automatically made on the HD, insert your memory unit with the Forza 3 save game and all other Forza 3 files you made earlier from your original HD (like ghosts, replays and so on), now move them onto the new HD. Now when you start the game from the HD it'll work again with your old save.

Question...my Xbox 360 recognizes my WD 250gb drive fine and I was able to transfer everything from my old 20gb to the new one...the only thing that didn't go as expected is when I ran hddhackr 1.22 and then restarted the computer and entered "hddhackr -f" again it did NOT say it was ready for the Xbox...it would have let me flash again...
Is this going to make my 250gb drive detectable by Microsoft or as long as the bios shows the drive as Hitachi and the Xbox recognizes it as so then that means the flash went "normally"?

I have the SAME problem! But if you try to install a game into disk it gave you an error after some percent point?
