Thanks for this Frosty  biggrin.gif

I think what darylzero meant to say was ( cleaned it up a little )

Is it still suggested to Not use the 360 as a power source but rather use a Separate Power Source like a Kit?

Taken from : http://forums.xbox-s...o...78807&st=30

QUOTE(ydgmms @ Mar 8 2009, 09:43 PM) *

I notice the Xbox360 stays on for about 10s after pressing hte power button.

Frosty's Reply:
There's the whole problem right there, you are using your 360 as a power source for the drive.

As said many times before, I do not recommend using your 360 as a power source for your drive when using my disc.

MS-DOS is all about timing. My disc is built to have things happen at certain times, which the 360 fouls up when being used as the power source. Please use either a XENO Connectivity Kit, an Xecuter Connectivity Kit, a CK3, or a homebuilt power connector, please avoid using your 360 as a power source for the drive.

As long you understand whats going on during the flashing process (and can react accordingly) its not an issue. e.g one issue is that you need a video cable plugged in, whereas with the kits that's not needed. Educate yourself as to what's going on, and you'll be fine. Every single drive type is flashable whilst being powered by the 360 (without exception).

I'm pretty sure Frosty said that the hitachi tools required windows, so he couldnt make a disc with them included.

Yes, my disc always requires a Lite-On serial adapter (CK3, homemade, etc) to mod or re-mod Lite-On drives.

You'll only find it on the xbins share site. Look up the autoxbins post posted a little while ago. That's about the easiest way you'll find it. Unless you want to learn irc and ftp.

Hi.
I know this has been asked before, but i didn't see an answer: when the prompts tell me to conncet/disconnect the power cable from the drive, do i have to disconnect them physically even if i am using a ck3 lite, or is it enough to switch the power off on the ck3?
The same goes for the serial cable(not serial ata), do i have to connect/disconnect that from the ck3 when it prompts me?
Sorry for the noob questions, i just want to be absolutely sure of the steps.(I have a Lite-On drive)

Just use the switch when asked to power down the drive
as for the rs232 I'm not sure

You have to plug the video cable into the back of the 360. It doesn't have to be plugged into a TV. If you don't do that, the 360 starts to error (or something similar).

and using the 360 to power the drive is NOT a good idea at all!

hello,
i have a few possibly dumb questions if someone could answer them. lil info first: i have an ide hdd, a generic pci sata card, via 6421a chipset.
in device manager it says via raid controller - 3249
for my I/O range it say 28D0 - 28DF  28C0 - 28CF  28B0 - 28BF  28A0 - 28AF  2880 - 289F  2400 - 24FF
Everything in bold i have put into frosty's disc just like he says and i tried each one separately. none of the ports seem to work.  i went into the bios to turn off raid (saw in another post to shut it off) but never found the option. all cables are plugged in (video, power, sata, ect.) what am i doing wrong?? i cant get past backing up my fw. i am thoroughly confused any help is greatly appreciated.

How are you connecting the drive to your pc?  Are you using the 360 to power the drive or a ck3?  The first port on your sata card (the one closest to the back of your pc) 'should' be the first io port.. 28d0 in your case.  Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

sata cable connected to the drive, drive is still connected to the box cause i am powering it by the 360 power supply. yeah i know not the best but others have made it work. the sata is plugged into the port closest to the front of the case. i figured the port is 28D0 but i have tried them all.

the only thing easier than this was using the old slayer's disc. i did use older drivers to make it work. to anyone that maybe have the same or similar problems.
my setup:
xp pro sp3, generic via 6421a card from computer shop in town, 5.20 drivers, benq drive, 360 power supply and frosty's sweet disc. video cables were plugged in too.

Yeah i have been wondering about that, i cannot afford an CK3 kit for my benQ, So what is the risk of damaging something if i use the 360's power, will it brick and my 360 is screwed?

Are the chances high or low something will happen if i use my 360 for power?

Also, just as a quick note, the VT6421A (RAID) card seems to be a lot more friendly with my disc then the VT6421 (Non-RAID) model.

The VT6421A (RAID) card is the one I personally use, but my disc has been tested and works fine with both cards.

If you are having issues with your VT6421 card you might want to try the VT6421A model instead.

The risk is not the power souce if you follow things as they should be (i.e. ensure video cable in 360 plugged in etc). The risk of bricking is on messing up the flashing, which is the same risk as with any of the kits :-)

all  my 360's and (all my friends and family) only used the 360 to power the drive.

But when I boot the cd I just get  " .Error!. " .. Does the xbox have to be connected and on before you boot with the cd?

The mod disc v1.5 boots up just fine.

Thanks

You could always try using version 1.51 instead, but version 1.52 uses a whole new boot process that some motherboards don't support properly. (but they should, since my boot process is a normal standard on most motherboards)

All new motherboards should support my disc just fine.

It's a pretty old computer I have to admit..The amibios is dated 2003 and that was an update LOL. The disc boots perfectly on my laptop.. This is the first time i've had this problem but i'll try the mod 1.51... Thanks for the app and your help...

*Update*

I must be behind in the times, as my disc is currently using MTKFLASH for flashing Samsung TS-H943 drives, and apparently you can now use DOSFLASH to also flash the Samsung TS-H943 drives...

I will be updating my disc to v1.53 shortly to vastly improve the detection/dumping/flashing process of the Samsung TS-H943 drives on my disc.

I hope no one minds all these updates, I know it's getting quite repetitive... just understand that I am dedicated to making this disc the easiest method of flashing Samsung/Lite-On/BenQ drives available. happy.gif

P.S. And by easiest I mean I want it to be flat-out simple to modify your original drive in your 360. I know that there are many other options available out there, but for the common user I want this disc to be a one-stop shop. happy.gif

i'm about to update my ms28(previously modded to v1.4 by shop) to v1.51 using your disc.

do i still have to unlock firmguard using a specific disc in xb360's dvd-rom during mod process?

many thnx

The unlock disc is not necessary if you are using a VT6421 SATA card.

If you are attempting to use my disc with another SATA chipset (which I don't recommend) then yes you will need the disc.

I know that there are many other options available out there, but for the common user I want this disc to be a one-stop shop. happy.gif

You are the man!  Is there any kind of video tutorial for this?  I understand the concept of this disc and everything but I want to see what it looks like to hook up everything and see the whole process from start to finish.

Any updates are more than welcomed! Keep doing your thing peace!

Hello and thanks for your job on this disk...

i have a sutpid question but can't find the answer...

is it necessary to have the PCI SATA card mentioned in the nfo of the iso or it is possible to directly connect the drive to my computer (SATA Cable on my ASUS motherboard )

i have a Benq or LiteOn DVD drive and would like to use your disk which seems to be the eaysiest way to change the firmware of the dvd drive ?

thanks a lot for your answers,

here are my mobo characteristics :
Asus A8N-VM
SATA : ATA-133, Serial ATA-150 (RAID), Serial ATA-300 (RAID)

Could someone tell me if this sATA card will work for all drives?
http://www.newegg.co...x...&Tpk=VT6421

or recommend me a specific one that will

its the only one i can find when searching on newegg but a lot of the comments say it only works on MS25 or MS28 drives.

I have a Ben-Q drive that has already been flashed but I didnt do it so I'm not sure what version it has but I want to upgrade it to 1.5 so im trying to figure out everything that I need to try to do it on my own

make sure the folder name you're using to dump your fw to is dos compatible..i.e. no longer than 8 characters.  I used 'ofw' for the folder name and my dump showed up as pretty as you please biggrin.gif

uhh.gif

Frosty please please help,

hope your' still reading these, I have followed your instructions, I have a 360 xtractor, i get to step3 erasing lite-on drive, says
erasing ok!
erasing finished!

press any key to continue

and thats where it sits.... what do i do now? do i have a brick, I can't see anything else I can possibly do, but i'm scared i've bricked it, if you reply to this quickly you might just save my drive... any ideas? where can I go from here.
PS up to that point it worked like a charm!!!!
I downloaded iso from xbins today i think it was 5.2 now i'm worried it was 5.1...

If I used 9 letters in my folder name is that why i'm where i am now? damn you liteon why couldn't you be liteo

give jungleflash a go, at least you have your backup, I had to trawl thru all my PC's before I found my original backup! works on nforce as well as via. as far as i can work out, you tell it to intro, wait turn drive off and on if and when it tells you to (might take a couple of tries), it then gives you the rom info on the right panel, click on write, and bobs your uncle, after completed, click on outro. as far as i can tell intro sets it to writeable, and outro sets it back to read only.

is there any guide to this? i know to most people this is a walk in the park, not even needing a guide but to some others including myself, i would like to see this in action before taking the walk

i have the VT6241 RAID card.. i take it i would use the internal port on this to connect my drive to?

just to give an update from yesterday. i was able to fix my friends drive. i noticed that if i tried to use the disc again and the 360 was not on in the initial read stage nothing happened, as soon as i turned it on there were letters that would flicker which told me that the drive was still working and could connect to my comp. i gave dosflash a try and it worked. (with lots of hiccups) THANK XBOX SCENE for the help. i wasn't able to update him to 1.51, i put his old 1.41 on to make sure it worked. now that that is all done i went to update to 1.51 and now my comp just hangs at the ram test and finds my hdds. cant get into the bios, nothing and wont load windows. so after all that, my friends box is the same as i started and i have a comp that doesn't do anything. all in all i accomplished nothing. great day smile.gif words of advice. be careful about your power and connections with this disc. Otherwise you will spend a day fixing something you shouldn't have had to.

I just flashed 3 drives today and none of the files were backed up. I used the 1.52 disk. I noticed after looking around that the 360 mod disk was booting to C:. I looked on the disk trying to find an autoexec or config file but couldn't find anything. 1.51 backed up files to my HD, so I thought nothing of doing these and then found the problem.

I sent one off, but the others I will re-read to get a back up of them.

Is there a way I can change this?

Is there a way you can write 1.53 to have it load to X or Z drive?

Edit: After thinking about this, I don't see how it worked in the first place. If the original firmware wasn't saved to the C:\Samfiles, where did it find the file to create the modded firmware? It gets crazier the more I think of it.

I also looked in the one folder on the C:\Samfiles and it was empty. I guess the 1.51 didn't save the files there. Does it matter that my HD is a SATA drive?

Love the software though. I just need to get my bugs worked out.

Make sure your backup folder name is less than 8 characters in length or that can happen. (empty folders)

Also, there is not many changes between v1.51 and v1.52, v1.52 was just released to fix the issues some users were having. If v1.51 worked better for you, then you can always stick with that one, as the actual firmware is the same in both releases.

Also, to clear up the whole C: thing:

1. This disc uses a 'fake' C: drive to do it's work (only while the disc is running)
2. Your real NTFS/FAT/FAT32 HDD is actually mounted as the D: drive (only while the disc is running)
3. All files are backed up to the D: drive in the 'SAMFILES' 'LONFILES' or 'BENFILES' folders

The scripts are telling you that your files are being saved to C: when in reality they are being saved to your real HDD (D:)

The scripts only say C: for backup because that is what you see your real HDD as in Windows. happy.gif

I think that is the root of my problem. I was naming the folders with the serial number of the Xbox, 12 numbers. Not thinking of the 8.3 limitations of dos. It has been too long since I have worked with DOS files.

It would be helpful for those in the future using your disk if you put that in the line where you ask for a folder name. If it is in there, I read it so fast that I skipped it. Maybe a red font warning more than 8 characters will result in the backup files not being saved.

Now it is time to try to make the serial port. I bought a set up with a USB to serial.

I'm pretty sure there is a warning line right above the prompt, but it's just normal white text so I wouldn't be surprised if people were missing it. Is it possible to change the color of text in a DOS batch script?

But yeah, my disc will still mod your drive successfully even if an invalid backup directory is specified, it uses a fail-safe script that backs up your ORIG.BIN file to a RAMDISK so that it can still successfully modify your 360 drive regardless of the backup directory's name. happy.gif

I am sure it will work just fine. That is what most people use. Just make sure you have one with the switch to turn the drive on and off. DON'T unplug the drive and plug it back in. I can speak from experience after frying two of them. I was really careful but it happens. Now I am the proud owner of a connectivity kit that has a power switch for the DVD drive.

You can use a USB (like the Cell Phone Data cable thread) but it will only work in Windows AFAIK because you need the drivers going, and this disc only works on DOS? I don't know as I've never used it smile.gif.

Just wanted to take a second and say Thanks.  The 1.52 disc worked exactly as you would expect for me.  I flashed 2 drives in about 5 minutes simply by following the instructions.  I used the 360's power supply to power up the DVD drive, I unplugged the power from the DVD and plugged it back in as per the instructions, the thing worked as advertised.  Both drives were BenQ drives that were previously flashed using iPrep and had iExtreme firmware 1.50 on them.  Tested with Trivial Pursuit, Wanted Weapons of Fate and the new Riddick game and everything seems to be cool.

Um, total noob question here. I've never modded the 360 at all before.

I'm following the directions and once the drive finishes dumping I am prompted to reboot, followed by 'press any key to continue'. Pressing a key does nothing, and rebooting just starts the whole process over. I have the orig.bin file on my c drive now, but nothing else. Am I missing something or is this really all there is to it?

Background info:
Using VIA 6421
Connection Kit 2.0
Samsung TS-H943 drive
360MD1.51

I realize that such a simple app shouldn't need a tutorial, but right now I just can't tell what I need to do next.

As said before, I don't recommend using your onboard SATA connections, the only supported SATA chipset is the VIA VT6421 SATA card.

However, you can check the port of your Intel 82801FB Ultra ATA controller (3rd one down) and try that if you are flashing a Samsung drive, but that would be at your own risk. (Lite-On and BenQ drives don't work well under DOS with Intel SATA controllers afaik)

I still can't get the files to save on the HD. I have tried different SATA ports on the MB. I have a P5DG2X MB with 4 SATA ports. They are:

2 3
1 4

At first I had the HD connected to 1. I have tried 3 and now 2. I believe 2 is the primary master.

I have two DVD drives connected to the IDE ports.

I was wondering if it would work if I connected the HD to the other connection on the Via card. That wouldn't be a great solution as I would like to get the Xecuter CK3 XT Adapter to prevent me from having to open the PC each time to flash a drive.

I will delete the Samfiles on the HD and see if that helps.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

Yeah, try deleting that folder and also try doing a SCANDISK on your HDD, it may be causing the issue. (NTFSDOS tends to freak out if your HDD was not umounted right (shut down properly in Windows) or if it has unresolved bad sectors)

Hey Frosty!!! Any word on modification disc V1.53? Dosflash would be great for us samsung users whose drives can't be detected with MTKflash.   (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

I have seen that issue many times before... even before I made my disc.

That my friend is a dying flash chip on that samsung drive.

Its not the fault of you or my disc, just a bad chip. sad.gif

When using this disc would it be wise to check a few times (booting back into Windows) that the firmware has backed up correctly and saved to c: drive before flashing or is it safe to continue without worrying?

Just about to install the Blaster360 before attempting this and thanks for the great disc.....
Don't fancy doing an XP install just to install Jungleflasher!

Great disc frosty!  was shocked at how easy this was to upgrade my firmware!  falcon box with benq drive upgraded from ixtreme1.41.  If you can read and follow the instructions this method is simple.  Thanks again to you and all involved in this wonderful piece of software beerchug.gif

Hi, having a bit of an issue with attempting to use this disc... any pointers please?
I am using the CK3 to connect the drive to the pc to the internal VIA6421 port

1) Boot the disc up
2) Go through the initial setup (with the CK3 OFF)
3) When it asks to connect the cables to the drive (which already are) - PC FREEZES!!!!!!!

How do i get the drive on without locking the pc up?
I have tried to boot the pc up with the CK3 'ON' and the pc freezes on the VIA setup screen just after the bios....
Is there anything i am doing wrong?

Pc is running with Vista x64 - Don't fancy installing XP on a partition!!!

With regards to my comment above:
I have abandoned the whole Modification Disc idea and decided to get iPrep working.
Got iPrep working fine using the CK3 and took no more than 4 minutes to flash to iX1.51! (I hope!! - Just going to do test with a new backup!)

Many thanks for the help here....

Just need some more detailed guides to help 'noobs' like me, flash the 360 easier and without wasting everyone's time with basic questions..... which most of the times are answered by Google!!!

ALL GOOD!!! WORKED FIRST TIME!!!!! iXTREME 1.51 INSTALLED!!!!!

ITS LIKE CHRISTMAS CAME EARLY!!!!

360 Modification Disc v1.53 is released, check the 'usual places'. happy.gif

Changes in v1.53:

 - Replaced MTKFlash for DOSFlash
 - Improved Samsung Detection

This version fixes all detection issues with Samsung TS-H943 drives, and also improves compatibility with more SATA chipsets.

NOTE: I have also successfully used this disc with NForce3 chipsets, so even though I still recommend the VT6421 SATA card, you can also use the NForce3 too. (maybe others as well)

Enjoy!

Yes, my disc always requires a Lite-On serial adapter (CK3, homemade, etc) to mod or re-mod Lite-On drives.

Hello FrostyThesnowmam, do i need ck3,homemade etc stuff for the benq drive for mod with this disc?
thanks in advance  smile.gif
