Interesting, this might have saved me a lot of time flashing my Benq today if I could have been more patient, will definately try this on my next mod.
-

-
Thank You for this
-
is there any hitachi 79fl support.

Im going to ask this very kindly and please do not hate...i've never been that sick and stumbled across this...i'd usually search and through the forum but im too messed up right now

Are these hacks Xbox Live safe?
and is it easy to flash (right from the disc) without opening the xbox...

there's no guarantee that you are xbox live safe...everytime you mod something you take the risk and should know the risk beforehand....

you still have to open the box mate (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
-
Usage:
- Make sure you have a VT6421 (or compatible) PCI SATA card installed in your PC
- Burn this ISO, and boot this disc in your PC
- Follow the prompts to mod any Samsung, BenQ, or Lite-On XBOX 360 DVD-ROM drive
- All firmware dumps, modified firmware, and other files related to the drive being
modified will be placed in the following directories on your 'C' drive:
Samsung TS-H943 - C:\SAMFILES
BenQ VAD6038 - C:\BENFILES
Lite-On DG-16D2S - C:\LONFILES
- Will the prompts tell you when to put the CK3 on or not? Not quite sure how this works?....

Yes, if you are modifying a Lite-On drive the prompts will tell you when to connect the CK3.
-
So I burned this and it does not automatically start into anything. I didn't have my Xbox hooked up so im assuming that the program needs to have you xbox connected to your pc through your via chipset and then it will start... Correct... Ive never used this befroe.
Thanks, Sonky

One of the reasons is that some of the newer games do not boot under 1.5 but under 1.51.

Hey frosty i got your new disc but there is no firmware files or bat files waz up wit dat?

QUOTE(Jah Taz @ Mar 8 2009, 01:07 AM)

It's a boot disc. You need to insert the disc into your PC, then reboot your PC, then boot into the disc and follow the instructions. The file structure of the disc resides in the boot sectors of the disc, and not in the normal Joilet file system. This is intentional, and is my new method for this release.
If you insert the disc into your PC with Windows running, all you will see is the Readme file, the Lite-On Serial Cable diagram, and the instructions to find your VT6421's port.

disc freezes after reading the firmware file from my benq drive.
used jungleflasher and everything worked as it should.

thank you for this

but generally speaking you wont get banned as long as your game stealth and kreon drive does pretty solid job. I had mine online for like forever(my system still works after like 3 years..never had a problem with it...)
anyway thanks to all for the hardwork. we really appropriate it. one thing left is taking care of the region lock problem. I almost bought a jap xbox 360 just to play raiden games lol..
-
so this will work on my already modded console without any backup files?(keys..etc)
-
cool - looks interesting! just bought a new 360 with lite-on and reading up on modding it now. CK3 is in the post, and i will give this a blast when it arrives. thanks!
-
Hi,
I was going to use the previous version of this disc but I use Jungleflasher and DOSFLASH to normally mod drives but the reason I was a bit unsure about this disc is that I use a USB cable with the CK3 Pro. From what I read in the previous version, it can only be used with a Serial cable and not USB. Is this still the case? I'm really keen on using this disc, which seems perfectly straight forward to use, especially for re-modding drives but do I need to use a serial cable instead of USB?
I use a VIA 6421 card and have a CK3 Pro with probe kit.
Thanks,
-
I used this today to update my Benq, absolutely no problem at all and literally only took minutes.
I know it mentions spoofing in the readme, but does this disc work (for example) with a Samsung MS28 which has been spoofed as a Liteon?

I currently have a Lite-On flashed with Ixtreme 1.5. Can I use this disc to upgrade to 1.51 without using a CK3?

dont know if this helps or applies to you but my disc was freezing when flashing my sam ms25 after reading the firmware (at the please reboot, press any key bit). then i reburnt it onto a dvd instead of cd and it worked first time. dont know why or if its just a coincidence, but i didnt change or do anything different apart from that

i am having the same problem. it reads/dumps the fw just fine. then it says Please Reboot your PC. Press any key to continue.
and thats it.. nothing else. when i press a key, nothing happens. i had this burnt to a cd-r, then i tried it on a dvd-r. same result both times.
am i doing something wrong? how can i get it to Flash?
edit.. i also noticed that the dumped firmware, called ORIG.bin, is only 60kb in size. should be 256kb, right? i did a few dumps to verify, each was 60kb...

is this available elsewhere please ?
thanks in advance
many thanks frosty the snowman if had any doubts I need not have worried the easiest reflash ever 1.41 on my benq to 1.51 in minutes the most time consuming fact is taking the xbox apart the flash was very easy just follow the instructions to the letter and BINGO thanks once again FROSTY (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I'm having a very similar problem but mine freezes after reading the banks and it says reading finished but then it freezes. It doesn't even come up with the reboot pc option. I did reboot the machine and I redone the process but it froze again at the same place.
Any ideas on this?

Glad to hear my disc has worked well for so many people! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy.gif)
As far as the people with freezing issues after dumping, try using my disc without your PC's HDD connected, it may solve the freezing issues. (Don't worry, my disc works just fine without an HDD, it just won't backup your firmware for later use)
This release makes my disc compatible with ALL PC SATA & IDE DVD-ROM drives, but my disc still has some known issues with certain SATA HDDs. (after dumping the firmware my disc immediately copies the dumped firmware over to your HDD, which can cause freezing with some SATA HDDs.)
Once again, if you are having freezing issues, try using my disc without your PC HDD attached, you should be fine. Although, if you have a spare IDE HDD laying around that you can use instead of your SATA HDD, that would be highly recommended instead of simply disconnecting your SATA HDD.
NOTE: Using an IDE HDD is a much better idea though, as using my disc without an HDD does introduce the possibility of bricks. I'm not saying your drive WILL brick, only that it is a possibility without an HDD.

em, i have a question, its the 1st time i am thinking of using this programe, i got a few question to ask, hope you guys can help me out.
i dun have a via VT6421 PCI SATA card, can i use my on board sata? its "NVIDIA nForce4 Intel Edition Serial ATA controller" just wondering is this ok to work with this? and i am using a lite-on with IX 1.5, but i dun have a ck3 or any tool for key extraction as i had someone done it for me, does this software do upgrades by auto detecting the dvd key via sata? sorry to ask so much, just wanted to comfirm before taking up risk hope fellow seniors and bro here can give me a hand, thanks in advance, and sorry for my bad english.

Hello Frosty
nice tool, really appreciate the work, got a quick question
the unlock procedure of the drive is handled too ? depending the firmware and the drive you have, it can be pretty different to get it in vendor mode .. Thx for the answer
-
Hey Frosty, fan of the disc having an issue though. I'm new to the forum but not new to flashing.... I've also read completely through this post as well as your original post for v1.5 post and tried everything with no luck still.... I can't make it passed the reading stage of the disc.
After getting through to steps 5 and 6 (of the orig. fw reading) is where I have trouble. I have tried all the different suggestions on DC power and reconnecting but none have worked and allowed my drive to read the orig fw.... the drive (benQ btw) goes from status 0xD1 when the drive is disconnected, then after waiting for 5-10 secs i reconnect power and the status flickers at 0xD2 without reading the fw.
Any suggestions from you guys would be greatly appreciated

Frosty,
Just to let you know I got it to work but I had to disconnect the Hard drive first as you recommended but what I was slightly concerned about was not being able to keep my saved firmware but a sacrifice I was willing to make. Also, I use an IDE drive anyway and not a SATA and only until I unplugged this did it start to work.
It worked immediately and I see no reason for it to go wrong at all if the Hard Drive is disconnected unless you are very careless. It was for a BENQ drive.
Anyway, the disc is the business and massive congratulations on an amazing tool. You're going to save me so many hours remodding drives.

Have you tried using an external power source instead of using your 360?
I personally use the XENO connectivity kit for my power source, but the Xecuter connectivity kit and the CK3 pro/CK3 lite also work very well.
I don't really recommend using your 360 as a power source, it tends to cause reading/flashing issues with Samsung and BenQ drives.

My disc handles all unlocking, reading, and flashing for all versions of the Samsung, BenQ, and Lite-On drives just fine as long as you are using a VIA VT6421 SATA card.

My disc cannot dump the Lite-On key information over SATA, it requires a serial cable to do it. You will need either a CK3 lite, CK3 pro, or you will need to make a homemade cable with the diagram provided on my disc.

Glad to hear that you got it working! Also note though, that if you choose not to use an HDD with my disc, you could also simply say 'no' instead of 'yes' at the NTFS4DOS prompt and it would do the same thing as disconnecting the HDD on your PC.
You see, the NTFS4DOS application is what actually loads support for your HDD in the first place, so if you say 'no' instead of 'yes' it will simply not load support for your HDD and would do essentially the same thing as disconnecting your HDD.

hi, Frosty i tied yout disc to flash a liteon that already has 1.5 on it. I finally get it done, thanks for your work.
but I have a few questions:
although i've got it working but i did fail a few times when flashing it. it freezed at flashing bank 0. waht could be wrong?
noticed a change betwee this version disc and your 1.5, it asks to wait for 5 seconds after switching off the drive when flashing but your 1.5 dsic does not ask for that. I never experience freezing issue with your 1.5 disc. is the 5 seconds wait very important in this version ?
-
Ugh. The disc just messed up my drive or something.
For some reason, it froze my PC after erasing the drive. I could not press any key to continue. Had to reboot. Theres no 'Restart the process using an already extracted orig.bin'.
Had to find the commands to manually flash the ixtreme.bin... found 12 write errors.
Booted up my 360, wouldn't read a backup, would play a movie though.
Tried to reflash orig.bin, found 57 write errors. Didn't bother testing. Reflashed the ixtreme.bin found 707 write errors.
Still doesn't read backups.
I can't even seem to copy the orig.bin and ixtreme.bins, because Win7 created a 200MB partition for system use... NTFS4DOS decided to make that C. Whenever I tried to copy files from C: to another drive it would freeze up my system.
I should have my very first stock orig.bin somewhere on a drive. But can anyone help me w/ those write errors occuring?

No, not really, just some added detail in the menu to make up for weird timing on some PCs.
The 5 seconds that was added in the BenQ & Lite-On sections is just there for better timing, but is not necessary on most PCs.
Also, as far as the freezing goes, MS-DOS has been known to freeze up at weird times on some newer motherboards, this may be the issue in your case. The older your motherboard the better with my disc.

My disc has not been tested using Windows 7 partitions, which is why they are not listed as being supported on my disc.
Try using a Linux Live CD to retrieve your ORIG.BIN and IXTREME.BIN files off that partition.
Also, it's probably getting write errors on your drive because you are using a BenQ or Lite-On drive, which needs to be erased first before you flash it manually.
-
I was able to retrieve the bins.
It is a BenQ.
Mobo is about a year old. Gigabyte 780G-based.
VIA card is the standard Syba from newegg one.
I know at least one time I did do an erase before flashing. The problem is, after I erase, I lose control. I have to reboot. Then I flashed. And still get write errors. Also, your disc froze after it erased. So I just rebooted. I'm assuming this means the drive is still erased?
. Then just flashed and got only 12 errors, but didn't work.
Shoulda used iPrep
(if its still around ?)
I did manage to read the firmware on the drive at one point, and when I was able to retrieve all the BINs, I examined it and it had a COMPLETELY different drive key than ORIG.BIN and IXTREME.BIN.
But I'm done messing with it tonight. Ugh..if only it wasn't such a major update. I was fine w/ 1.4 (I make all my own backups from originals).
btw: concerning timing. I just wait til the status stops flashing from 0xD1/0x51. I notice the Xbox360 stays on for about 10s after pressing hte power button. but when Status stops flashing, thats when it seems to be totally off. Then I turn it back on, and it does whatever its needing to do (Read/Erase/Write).
-
QUOTE(ydgmms @ Mar 8 2009, 09:43 PM)

I notice the Xbox360 stays on for about 10s after pressing hte power button.
There's the whole problem right there, you are using your 360 as a power source for the drive.
As said many times before, I do not recommend using your 360 as a power source for your drive when using my disc.
MS-DOS is all about timing. My disc is built to have things happen at certain times, which the 360 fouls up when being used as the power source. Please use either a XENO Connectivity Kit, an Xecuter Connectivity Kit, a CK3, or a homebuilt power connector, please avoid using your 360 as a power source for the drive.
-
Oh well... Should definately have used iPrep then (never had a problem using a 360 as a power source)
Thanks anyway. Hopefully I can recover...

Update!
It seems that the freezing issues many users are experiencing is related to the NTFS4DOS application, which controls NTFS support on my disc.
I am currently testing another freeware DOS/NTFS solution, expect an updated version of my disc within 24 hours that should solve any freezing issues.
-
Hey. I would greatly appreciate it if somebody could help me with my situation. Thanks in advance.
I usually go to get my xbox modded by a professional modder. I've had it done a couple of times now, and I think it's time I learn to do it myself, and save the hassle of traveling to their house.
The last time I had it modded was around 1-2 weeks ago, slightly before the new video wave came out in these games. I got it modded to 1.5. I believe my drive is a lite-on (Arcade system bought brand-new around Christmas time last year). Anyway, I saw him do some soldering and what-not, and flash it to 1.5.
What do I need to do to upgrade my 360 to 1.51. Is it easy enough to "upgrade" or will I need to solder things. I don't have any clue as to what this "key" business is too. But I assume that's been done since my modder flashed my xbox to 1.5?
I really want to start doing this for myself, and I would take on board any help I can get.
Thank you.

To answer Nismo and Logicwatch's questions:
Yes, my disc automatically copies over all necessary spoofing information on already spoofed and modified drives.
Meaning that any spoofed drive with older firmware will still be spoofed after being updated using my disc.

NOT ORIGINAL hitachi spoofed as another hitachi ? ( IF THATS EVEN POSSIBLE ? )
Its a shame your great boot disc couldnt do hitachis as I really hate flashing them

my original drive was a hitachi 79 i took it to a shop who flashes and he changed my drive to a benq i have not used your disk before but the guy at the shop wants to charge me £10 for the 1.51 update and £10 for the 1.6 update so i have decided to give it a go. Just wondering what drive i should select when flashing hitachi or benq? Or does this auto detect the drive? Thanks

You will want to select the BenQ option.

Hi Frosty,
Sorry for bothering you as many others but I would be grateful for your help.
I am stuck at the beginning.
I am using CK3 as a power source for DVD-ROM Samsung MS-28 iX 1.4, and using VIA VT6421 PCI card.
Followed all the instructions and passed Port set successfully for your VT6421 SATA card.
COM port "1" set successfully for your serial cable.
Typed "yes" on NTFS for DOS... then "samsung", typed folder name as asked ... "Folder name "Samsung" saved!
Then this instructions come out:
1. Connect SATA/power cables to the TS-H943 drive - DONE
2. Press ENTER -Done
3. Disconnect power cable from TS-H954 drive (leave SATA connected) - DONE
4. Press the number on the keyboard for 'XTREME Pri Master'
I've got offered only this:
1: IDE Sec Slave
When I choose 1, it says Port:170, Master/Slave: b0
And after that nothing happens.
I wait for 15 sec., recconect the power cable but only escape button make any difference.
Folders on HDD were created, but stays empty.
In all steps, only MTKFLASH appears with same instructions.
Any help will be apriciated.
Thanks.

xbox 360 pro
*benq
*1.41 firmware
Laptop:
*asus x38vb x1
* Intel GM45 Express chipset
*esata port in back
hey all. new to the forums here but not totally new to modding. ive modded my fare share of original xboxes but i never had a computer with the right hardware to mod a 360. a friend always did it for me. well hes not around and im too poor to ship it anywhere. have a few questions regarding this disk and my computer. basically can i do it with my current setup and using this disc? if not then how? what parts do i need(esata to sata cable maybe)? any and all help is greatly appreciated. thanx in advance.
P.S. frosty thanx for making this disc and the process easier on us newbies.

Hi, I already have an updated, ready to flash dummy.bin. If I buy a VT6421 am I all ready to go? My current setup doesn't seem to recognize the drive.
Also, is powering from the console really all that bad? It seems like a lot of home modders (ie people just doing their own systems) do it this way.
-
i have been reading up on how to mod the drive and from what i have seen it depends on your drive. i have a friend that mods them in another state. i have helped him mod many 360s and that is all he uses is the 360 power supply. never seen him have an issue. i just asked him about the disk and he said he wont use it cause he has his way down. if it aint broke dont fix it. i remember that seeing that benq drives have issues but i also read that sammys have an issue. but i dont know how they work with this disk. refer to frosty. thats all i can say.

Is the revision of the disk for 1.51 coming soon?
I've been holding off to test it with another console but I thought earlier there was going to be another revision soon.
Any chance on that soon?

QUOTE(FrostyTheSnowman @ Mar 8 2009, 07:43 AM)

It's a boot disc. You need to insert the disc into your PC, then reboot your PC, then boot into the disc and follow the instructions. The file structure of the disc resides in the boot sectors of the disc, and not in the normal Joilet file system. This is intentional, and is my new method for this release.
If you insert the disc into your PC with Windows running, all you will see is the Readme file, the Lite-On Serial Cable diagram, and the instructions to find your VT6421's port.

hi dos any 1 no if this work's. as i use iprep

QUOTE(logicwatch @ Mar 10 2009, 12:34 AM)

frosty I have just done the via drivers fix to portIO32 for using jungleflasher with my via 6421 card for hitachi drives I wondered
will this affect the ability to use your disc going forward if I wish to flash another benq ?
or do I have to revert back to the old via driver again ?
thanks in advance
frosty can you please confirm the above before I flash another benq ?
-
does this now dump the serial info correctly?. 1.50 was used to dump my lite on and checking in JF show'd that there was missing serial data. I had to reconstruct via the labels on the drive which was a PIA, thankfully I could do that but the question is, is this still an issue?
for the guys above, this disc is standalone and has nothing to do with PORTIO, does not need/use it.
-
I just flashed my benq using this and worked fine. It didn't work at first because the NTFS for dos wouldn't save to my sata hard drive.
So at the NTFS for Dos screen I said no and it didn't load the drivers for my hard drive, then when I followed the instructions it worked perfectly.
Downside is that it couldnt write a backup of my firmware to my hard drive but I already have backups of it and the key so no worry for me there.
Just so people know I flashed it using my on-board Nforce 430i (Nforce 4) sata so can confirm that works with the disk.
You have to get the device port from the windows control panel as shown in the Via tutorial on the disk but obviously select your onboard sata to get the port for that.
Hope that maybe helps somebody
thanks to FrostyTheSnowman for the disk great work!
-
Firstly, thanks for a great disc! Very impressive, and appreciated.
That said, I have a few comments regarding the documentation of this, and some outstanding clarifications I need help with please.
1. The docs show how to find your IO port number, highlighting the first entry. This port, surely, entirely depends on the port you have plugged your SATA cable into on your PCI VIA card?
2. Following on from this, I used jungleflasher to find out the port my BenQ was on - A800 - I rebooted to the CD, and it said it couldn't send the correct command to the drive against this port IO. It prompted me whether I should try to continue, I used the CK3 Pro to turn off the BenQ then back on again, and it attempted to send the command; unsuccessfully. What is happening there?
3. This may seem a basic question, but it's not covered in any of your docs; should the 360 drive be turned ON or OFF upon booting the CD?
4. This comes back to #1, what port do you recommend we plug into on the VIA PCI card? The external port? That's the one i'm currently trying against.
thanks.
-
Hey Frosty,
first of all thank you very much for your hard work on this. The mod disc is really easy to work with and very clear. I have worked with the 1.5 version a while now and it worked perfect for me.
But when i try to use the 1.51 version it won't write to the c: drive anymore, when I type, samsung, benq or liteon it says that it failed to write to A. I can ignore that, but when I go on I can dump the firmware but it can't inject any code because it doesn't dump it anywhere I think.
And the difference i noticed with the 1.5 version that the 1.5 version shows X: as my cd drive and A: as the c drive (sounds logic to me). But the 1.51 version shows the A: drive as cd drive and because of that it can't write to the A drive.
Do you know a way to solve this problem and are there more people with the same problem?
Thanks in advance, and Kudos for your work!

I bricked my hitachi when I tried flashing with my NForce4. I ordered a VIA6421 card a couple days ago. I would highly recommend it, as the VIA card is now the standard which all the flashing programs use to maintain compatibility. I got the 6421A card (supports RAID) for $14.95 shipped from techsunny.com - that's about half the price of a new drive

Disc worked fine for my benq, the only thing that always happens to mine is every time I go to turn on the box my pc freezes and I have to start over,I have to hit enter and turn it on almost at same time then Y to retry and it works.
-
I am still implementing and testing a new NTFS driver for my disc, it probably won't be released for a few more days.
Oh, and for those who are wondering, your Windows drivers (like PortIO) have absolutely no effect on my disc. My disc doesn't use Windows drivers at all.
Also, just to clarify, Hitachi-LG drives are not supported by my disc. Please do not attempt to use any Hitachi-LG drive with my disc, or your could brick your drive or worse. My disc does not currently support the Hitachi-LG GDR-3120L at all.

My v1.5 disc used a 1.44MB floppy image as the boot image on my CD, but the new version (v1.51) uses a 2.88MB floppy image instead, which your BIOS may not like. Have you tried using my disc on another PC by chance?
I had to switch over to a 2.88MB boot image due to the size of the modification files and script, and because so many people were having problems with the CD-ROM driver I was using on v1.5. My new disc makes your PC think it's simply a bootable 2.88MB floppy instead of relying on CD-ROM drivers, so the 2.88MB boot image might cause issues with some motherboards. (although most new motherboards should handle it just fine, I use an old MSI motherboard for my test bench)
Also, none of my discs ever write to the A: drive anyway, they write to a hidden RAMDISK (which is the T: drive)... as far as I know you are the only user to have reported this issue...

But when you use the boot disc 1.51, when you type the command samsung, benq or liteon, what is the parameter of the cd. I noticed with v1.5 the cd drive is X:. And when I dir a: it shows my C: drive.
But with the v1.51 the dvd drive is A: and i couldn't dir my hard drive. Strange isn't it?
This evening after my work I shall try it with yet another pc, also an old beast but who knows. If you notice anything strange in my story please let me know. Thanks for your time!

hello i was just wondering if when flashinga lite on drive, do we have to use a ck3 or can we use a spear and will it be conpatible with the instructions when flashing a lite on drive.
The reason i dont want to use a CK3 is because i have read that they tend to burn out and well ill be out 50Bucks.
By the way thank you,
Im a first timer and this cd is the best for this stuff ;0)

You can just buy a ck3, I have a ck 3 lite and it works very well. They don't just burn out, they burn out when you do something wrong like plugging the dvd power cable upside down. Then they burn out, but when you use it normal and wisely they don't just burn out.

If you have the money for it just buy a pro, some extra features are always nice:P But the lite will do fine too, i can flash all drives with it. I think the probe is sold seperatly, although I don't have it. Without a probe you just have to solder 2 quite large points together, wich is very very easy.
I think it's safer to just solder the points than having to use the probe, but about that, I don't have the probe so I don't know.

Well on the v1.51 disc the scripting files are no longer located on the CD (like on v1.5), they are now located within the 2.88MB floppy image on the CD.
So, from the A:\> prompt you should just be able to type samsung, benq, or lite-on and it should start the process.
The X:\> drive used to refer to the CD-ROM's file-system on the v1.5 disc, but on the v1.51 disc the CD-ROM file-system is no longer available under DOS due to the fact that all necessary files are located on the A:\> drive now (2.88MB floppy image).
So, are you saying that your HDD is actually mounting as A: now instead of C:?
Have you tried typing 'no' at the NTFS4DOS prompt and then checking the contents of the A: drive? It sounds like NTFS4DOS is mounting your HDD over the floppy image, which is not supposed to happen...

I use the VIA card aswell and it was for a BENQ. You should be using the internal port of the card, it is on the opposite end of the card, inside the PC, from the external one, not the one on the side of the card and this should work. For every flash I have ever done this is the port I used and it works perfectly. Having it half open, on etc. when Jungleflasher is on and that should give you a different port number and this should work when using the disc.
Hope this helps.

Hey Frosty,
I'm sorry for all the problems, at the end I was just a complete retard:P. I didn't read the NTFS4DOS screen properly and I entered "Y" instead of "yes" on the screen and because of that it didn't load NTFS4DOS and it couldn't see my hard drive. I think just "Y" was enough with the 1.5 but not with the 1.51.
But when you have another complete retard with the same problem, it's because of that:P
Sorry and thanx for your wasted time

Yes, after I press RETURN or any key it just hangs.
I have just read this thread from the beginning and tried all possible solutions.
I tried also a solution with "NO" at the NTFS4DOS and then i pass to the next level, but then it says that it can not find "ORIGIN.BIN" in folder I made before or something like that.
Anyway I was always persistent and I don't give up.
I'll try more possible solutions and hopefully success will come in my way.

It sounds like you are using version v1.5 of my disc, try using the v1.51 version of my disc and you should be fine. (the orig.bin error happens when you say 'no' on my v1.5 disc, this is fixed in version v1.51)

I wasn't aware this was an issue, I will have to look into it... I am using the newest version of DosFlash and DummyGen, DummyGen might be what is causing this to happen on some drives. (for some reason Firmtool doesn't like the dummy.bin file produced by DosFlash, which is why I am using DummyGen to create the dummy.bin file for the Lite-On drives)

Hi Frosty,
Sorry, but it is 100% 360 Modification Disc v1.51.
I did it somehow with all combinations from this thread.
That is for Samsung update.
Now I'm trying Lite-On and I have VIA card, CK3 Pro and CK3 probe.
I don't have Serial cable but I bought CK3 pro because of that.
Can I use USB instead with CK3 Pro with your disk or not?
Thanks.

It seems that the freezing issues many users are experiencing is related to the NTFS4DOS application, which controls NTFS support on my disc.
I am currently testing another freeware DOS/NTFS solution, expect an updated version of my disc within 24 hours that should solve any freezing issues. (IMG:

You are better to have a CK3. Using the 360 to power isn't reliable at all. Plus it needs to connect to the PC via serial cable. The CK3 has this connection. Pro and Lite.

Yes, if you are modifying a Lite-On drive the prompts will tell you when to connect the CK3.
So, Can you use the ck3 with the new version? I try using it with the older version and it didn't let me.

Thank you for this !
I had some problems flashing my Samsung drive first with your boot disk .
It seemed that my IDE HD was the culprit ,
it made a perfect copy of my original firmware but then it just hang .
So i just let it hang with the HD to get my firmware copy , then did it again but now after selecting the map for the firmware backup i pulled the molex out from the HD , it rebooted after the original firmware dump and then flashed perfectly .
This was the first time i flashed my own 360 .
I am getting a connection kit because the 15 seconds wait was a bit of an annoyance and when the 1.6 firmware gets here i am hoping you will make another boot disk .
Thx !!!!!!!!!

Am i only one who has'nt found a proper release anywhere?
I've checked some different sources where to get this disc, and every .iso i find, contains only the windows tutorial thing. No other files.
I was thinking putting this into a floppy.
1.5 was easy to get, but 1.51, hard to get

It's on Xbins then burn the iso using imgburn, then you have your boot disc.

I found this out before i got to edit my post.

It's a boot disc. You need to insert the disc into your PC, then reboot your PC, then boot into the disc and follow the instructions. The file structure of the disc resides in the boot sectors of the disc, and not in the normal Joilet file system. This is intentional, and is my new method for this release.
If you insert the disc into your PC with Windows running, all you will see is the Readme file, the Lite-On Serial Cable diagram, and the instructions to find your VT6421's port. happy.gif
But well, Frosty, can you make an floppy-compatible version of this? I know it's too big for a normal 1,44MB floppy, but multi-floppy things are not uncommon

Yes, I could, but floppy drives are really unreliable.
If you really wanted to, you could simply extract the boot information from my disc using an ISO editting application like PowerISO, and then just image a floppy using the boot information you extracted. (you will need a 2.88MB floppy disc & drive though)
Although, as I said before, floppy drives and discs are highly unreliable. Using the ISO on a CD as normal is a much better option...

Sweet dude, i'm glad to hear that you got it working!
Oh, and yes, I definitely intend on continuing to release and improve on this disc. As long as people like my work, I will continue to release it. Everytime a new firmware comes out you can expect an updated version of my disc to follow.

Thanks for your great work, Frosty. I tried it on my virgin BenQ and it worked great. I did, however, run into the issue where, after successfully reading the original firmware off my drive, the program hung. This happened even though my C: drive is IDE (I read earlier in the thread that the hanging problem usually only happens with SATA C:. Oh well). I did notice, however, that an orig.bin *did* actually get written to my C: drive, and was about 60kb.
Anyways, I am a risk-taker, so I decided to try again, and on the second time run through, I answered "no" to the NTFS4DOS prompt, and just proceeded without having the program save my original firmware. Everything completed and all seems well. Whew.
So now my only question is: is my 60kb orig.bin that got written the first run through valid? I thought orig.bin's were normally 256kb. Maybe I don't really need to care all that much, since everything is working, but I'm just curious. Also, I *did* jot down my drive key when it was displayed on screen at the end. Figured that might be handy one day.

The 60kb orig.bin file is not valid, you definitely do not want to use it.
I'm glad you got it working though, and yes, your drive key is very important to hold on to, indeed it may even be worth more than your orig.bin file anyway as having your key means that you can repair your drive or replace your drive any time you like as long as you know that key.

It was useful to know to disconnect every HD, after disconnecting it worked ok without freeze.

QUOTE(DuggyUK @ Mar 15 2009, 12:50 PM)

It's not that the power source in the 360 is not reliable, the power in the 360 is perfectly reliable.
The problem is that the 360 does not instantly power off when you hit the power button... it stays on for another 10-15 seconds if the dvd drive is not connected (which affects timing), and also that when the drive is connected to the 360 the 360 is sending it signals over the power connector which can have an effect on the drive's ability to go into 'vendor mode' (being able to dump and flash).
So it's not that the 360's DVD power source is unreliable, it's that it throws a bunch more variables into the mix while flashing, which is not a good thing. Kudos to those who got it working with the 360's DVD power source though!

Hi Frosty,
Im having an isue flashing my samsung drive, I have had a read through the previous post but cant find anything, it is possible I might have missed it.
I managed to find the drive and get upto the section where it says you need to restart press enter.
I press enter and a 2nd set of instructions come up telling to press enter and leave power to the drive.
Thing is when I press enter here it just hangs with a _ flashing in the top corner.
I left it for a while and it didnt do anything, it does spin up the CD in the pc but then nothing else happens.
I have disconnected all HDD's in case that information helps.
Have you any ideas?
Thanks

I have the necessary software to replace NTFS4DOS, except I am having trouble implementing it into my disc, as my disc currently uses the 'El Torito BIOS-Level Floppy Disc Emulation' as the basis for the disc, which is unfortunately limited to a maximum of 2.88MB of space as the 'floppy drive', and the solution I have available takes up over 4MB of space alone, and when combined with the firmware, scripts, tools, and OS it comes to a combined size of 6.50MB, which is WAY too big for floppy emulation...
I know that there is the 'El Torito BIOS-Level HDD Emulation' which basically turns your bootable CD into an emulated HDD, which WOULD work, but I can't seem to get this feature to work for the life of me... (can't seem to successfully create a bootable MS-DOS HDD image for a bootable CD...)
If anyone out there has any knowledge on HDD Emulation from a bootable CD, please PM me and we can combine forces to improve the '360 Modification Disc'. (don't worry, all credits for your assistance will be included in the disc)

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help. I'm flashing a Lite-on and having a wee bit trouble at the dumping stage. It is saying 'DVD-KEY invalid' and is asking if the dump was succesful. How do I know if it is successful? When I select no it takes me back to the page for the hardware instructions and I seem to be going round in circles.
I'm using a CK3 to get the tray open and follow the instructions to the letter but I can't get it to read the key.
Could it be that my serial port is wrong? I can only select one or two but I haven't tried two yet. This is a serious noob question but how do I know which port the serial is on?
Secondly, does simply switching on the CK3 count for powering on the drive when it prompts me to 'connect the power cable' at the hardware instructions page or do I have to have the CK3 on and connect the cable when prompted? I believe the tray is halfway as it looks similar to what I would do using Jungleflasher but again could this cause the error I'm getting.
Also, when asked to connect the serial, does this mean to the CK3? Obviously it can't go anywhere else but it's because the prompt says 'connect serial cable to the drive'.
I've used this disc to do a BENQ and it was flawless but I'm having a bit of trouble with the Liteon and I really hope someone can shed a bit of light.
Many Thanks,

You would want to enter 09F0 as the port number.
However, 09F0 is commonly an onboard Intel SATA controller, which is not supported. You need to find the port for your VIA VT6421 SATA card (if you have one).
You can find a tutorial on my disc for finding your VT6421's port.

Hey, I've bought the CK3 package, and I'm waiting the unlock tools.
My 360 is an arcade model bought in December 2008 new. It's already flashed at 1.50, I assume it's a lite-on drive due it being new.
What do I need to do? Is there a tutorial somewhere how to do this whole process. I don't want to break my xbox. Thank you very much!

If it says your DVD-KEY is invalid, do not continue.
Simply type 'N' at the prompt, and then yes to overwriting inquiry.bin, key.bin, identify.bin, etc. to retry dumping your key.
Do not continue until you get a valid key.

i am actually using nforce 4 chipset. is that the problem? also what com port am i sopposed to use. ive tried many different ones now no success.
EDIT i just tried 09f0 and i got my orig.bin!! yay. now what....... the file size is only 60kb.
No chipset other than the VIA VT6421 is supported. (meaning that you could use your NForce4 chipset, but I cannot guarantee that it will work)
The 60kb orig.bin file you created is invalid, it won't work. The 60kb issue is related to a flaw with the NTFS4DOS driver on my disc, which will be fixed with my next release called '360 Modification Disc v1.52' which will be released within about 5-6 hours from now. (i'm at work at the moment, I will be releasing the new version of my disc once I get home)
Wait until my new release is out then try again.
My new disc will have the following changes:
- Improved dumping of the Lite-On drive's DVD-Key
- Corrected serial number information in Lite-On drives
- Fixing the '60kb' issue with Samsung & BenQ ORIG.BIN files
- Fixing the NTFS HDD lockup/freezing issue some users have been experiencing
-
Just a quick update on '360 Modification Disc v1.52'...
The disc is near completed, I am just doing some final testing, expect a release within 24 hours.
-
Alright Frosty,
Thanks for the advice with the DVD-KEY is Invalid error but I couldn't for some reason get past this, no matter how many ways I had the tray open, changed COM port etc. so I had to use Jungleflasher instead. Worked like a charm but I still prefer to use your disc so looking forward to your new release. Still got a few Lite-ons to do so keep up the good work.

Nice. For some reason, 1.5 will read my DVD drive and get into the X: prompt but 1.51 wont (tried on 2 seperate computers and downloaded a couple of times)
The X: prompt was changed to A: in the v1.51 release, as the v1.51 release does not require CD-ROM drivers anymore.
All the files needed are now on the A: drive, so just type 'samsung' 'liteon' or 'benq' at the A: prompt to start modding your 360 drive.
QUOTE(wulfie @ Mar 18 2009, 07:39 AM)

Definately waiting on the update! I'm one of the many that gets stuck at 'reboot your pc', I press a key and it just freezes. I'm trying to flash my sammy and for some reason jungleflasher doesn't even see it, yet this amazing disc does. Here's hoping that this update will allow me to flash my ix1.4 to ix1.51

You can count on my new version (v1.52) being able to mod your drive successfully. The freezing/lockup issues are definitely resolved in this version.

was hoping to get my drive flashed today, tis my only day off this week...might have to miss a bit of sleep to get it flashed..

Well, I get off work in about 2 hours, then I have to triple-check my scripting (due to many changes in the drive structure of the disc, example: A: is now C:) test 3 stock drives (one of each type), then I will release the disc.
Could be less than 5 hours, depends on how quickly I get 3 stock drives.

I was about to try to flash my BenQ drive for the first time with your disc until I stumbled across the thread. I guess I will wait but I suggest naming the new version "v1.51 Rev 2" to avoid confusion with the FW release version.
I question about the BenQ drive, people say you need the VIA or NForce SATA chipset and others claim to have done it without. I am going to try on my new ICH10R Intel Southbridge but I dont know if I still need to use the trick shorting the two pins in the drive to get it in recovery mode. I saw that "BenQ Unlock"; does your compilation include parsing the "Magic Codes" to unlock a BenQ drive?
Thanks

360 Modification Disc v1.52 is released!
Check the 'usual places' to download.
Changes in v1.52:
- Fixed lockup/freezing issues with NTFS drives
- Improved BenQ/Samsung dumping/flashing stability
- Replaced MS-DOS with FreeDOS (more stable)
NOTE: The prompt is C: now instead of X: or A: - This is intended, as this version uses a bootable HDD image instead of floppy or CD-ROM.
Enjoy!

Hey Frosty, I used your diagram to create the DVDKEY tool for the Lite-on drive, many thanks. However I'm wondering about the connector to the board itself. In the diagram, it shows the connection to a small hole under the R707 resistor. However, there doesn't appear to be any metal contacts to solder to. So this may be a dumb question, but how do you conenct that wire to the drive itself? Is it tap soldered to the resistor itself? Or am I missing something? Maybe just a bit of flux ont he board? Or just a small enough wire to fit inside?

PS up to that point it worked like a charm!!!!
I downloaded iso from xbins today i think it was 5.2 now i'm worried it was 5.1...
If it froze after erasing then yes, your drive is blank...
Did you check your C:\LONFILES folder for your backup files?
As long as those files backed up properly you can use JungleFlasher to redo your drive.
Sounds like you got v1.51 on accident, as v1.52 doesn't have any freezing issues that i am aware of...
