So dose this mean if I use dosflash 1.4 I will get error too or just in conjunction with iPrep?

My samsung Xbox 360 got replaced by microsoft with the benq drive after three red lights, was fine flashing the sammy drive, is there a step by step guide doing the benq drive?

Is this the version that will not caused errors?  dosflash 1.4? Is that the one in iprep101v005? I want toknow because I 'm using that one
right now(v005). I just want to make sure everything is alright. Also, when I read the tutorial by caster on how to flash the benq va6038 it says to copy the dosflash program over to the usb stick? I don't use a usb stick but NTFS4DOS. So, when Iprep made my directories, it placed the dosflash prog in /iprep101/tools/dosflash.exe.
Should i move it back out into the iprep 101 directory?

I have a Benq VAD6038. The question I have is when and for what reason would I check the box to 'Patch MTKFlash' in iPrep?

Folks, I'm having trouble:

...
Turn ON the drive, wait for the status to change to D1 - CHECK
Turn OFF the drive for 2 seconds - CHECK
Turn ON the drive, reading should start - CHECK

But, the status alternates between 0xD1 and 0x51 for a long time.  Is this normal and if so, how long should it take.

I've tried three different computers now and the exact same results on each.

Just keep turning the 360 off and on until it detects it. You may be leaving it off too long.

Thanks for this great tool. It makes flashing easy.

I also got the switching between 0xD1 and 0x51. Guess it's normal, because I turned the BENQ drive off and on and it starts reading, erasing or flashing immediately. Backups and original disks are working fine.

This sounds exactly the same as what happened to me the other day. Dont panic. As long as you have your original dump. Keep that safe. It will work. You dont need to restore, just erase again. I think what I did is when it tells you to turn it off, do that. But just before the bit where it doesnt give you chance to hit yes, turn it back on, then proceed and it should flash. It worked for me. I will go into greater detail later, not at home at the moment.

Update... Tried ths on 5 different computers and 1 SATA card, none of which had the VIA or NVIDIA chipset, and all with the same results as explained above. So, I just ordered the SYBA SY-VIA-150 SATA Controller Caard with a VIA 6421L Chipset from ebay.  Hope this works.  I'll post an update when I receive my card.

Is it possible to have iPrep create the USB stick so that it's a 'Superfloppy (USB-ZIP bootmode)'?

I tried creating a boot disk using iPrep, but my PC just reports it as a 'Non System Disk'. But if I create it using Flashboot and set it as 'Superfloppy (USB-ZIP bootmode)', then it'll boot just fine. I'd just rather have the simplicity of using iPrep to prepare the USB stick.

One other question... it looks like this version of iPrep will allow you to flash both BenQ and Samsung drives using the same USB stick. Is this true? If so, then I MUST get iPrep working... as it that'd be great!

Thanks

Of course.  All you need are mtkflash and dosflash on the USB stick and you can read/write both.

Thanks caster... I guess I might to ask if iPrep sets up the USB stick with everything needed to do BenQ & Samsung drives - or does a person have to manually dump DOSFlash and mtkflash onto the stick?

AFAIK (havent tested it, only from what Klutsh has told me) is that if you load both a benq and a samsung hacked firmware, it will create your boot device so taht it supports both.

In iPrep once you choose which firmware you want it places everything on there. You do have to select either BenQ or Samsung though so I don't think you could use the same USB for both. Just open iPrep and you'll see what I mean. It's actually very easy to use and flash.

Yup,... in iPrep I selected both the Samsung and BenQ firmwares - assuming that it'd dump everything needed to the USB stick to flash both drives. But unfortunately I can't get the stick to boot on my PC - unless there's a way to make it a 'Superfloppy' - which seems to be the only type that my PC will boot from startup. Anyone have a solution to this? If I created a USB stick using iPrep and then saved those files to a backup folder on the PC, and then create the USB 'Superfloppy' using Flashboot, would I be able to simply copy & paste the files that I made a backup from of the iPrep stick? I would assume that the Flashboot 'Superfloppy' requires certain files - a one of the same files that iPrep uses...

If your PC won't detect usb drives at startup you could try updating the system bios. Sometimes OEM's will add usb startup support to the bios. Also, look in the bios to see if it's enabled as a startup option.

Post by: Evil Ryu on November 27, 2007, 02:46:00 PM
Thanks DMAddict... my bios will boot the USB stick - but only if I format it using Flashboot and select the 'Superfloppy' option (which to be honest... I'm not exactly sure what it is... I just read somewhere to try that option if the bios wouldn't boot the USB stick).

I'd love to be able to get iPrep working... it looks pretty slick!

I'm having trouble flashing my ms28.  I can do up the USB stick no problem and boot from it, but when it tells me to power off the 360, and wait 15 seconds and power it on again so it can read the Firmware key, nothing ever happens..

Any suggestions?

I can't get it to work, I make a boot disk with Samsung and Benq files. I also patched the MTKFalash. For Samsung its working fine, but for the benq I always only get Statu: 0x00

My drive is off when I start "dBen 7-digit serial 5-digit serial"
After this come the message
"Ensure that your Benq DVD is turned OFF"
"press any key to contiune..."
Then I press Enter
Then comes the message where I Press "Y" for Yes again and turned my drive ON after "Y"+Enter.
But then I only get Statu: 0x00

And what I have type in for "7-digit" and what for "5-digit"?

Sorry for thoe newbi questions. But for the Samsung is all working fine.

I can't know but I suppose it's better if you do so. Try flashing without patching MTKFlash and if you fail...patch and try again biggrin.gif

I am Desperate....

The drive of the xbox says VAD6038...I suppose this is Benq as it doesn't say anithing about labels except the phrase "Philips and Benq Digital Storage Corporation"

My PC has ICH7.
So far so good...or not?

I used iprep loaded iXtreme 1.4 x8,patched MTKFlash and formatted and made a diskete bootable...

I connected the 360's DVD drive to an empty SATA socket if my pc and booted my pc to the diskete I created. ( the xbox 360 is off )

dBen XXXXXXX XXXXX

make sure its off
press any key...     my 360 is off and I press a key

everything is ok till now...
At the next step I have to press y and then boot up the 360.
I press y the status changed from 51 to D1 and back... I start the 360 the status goes to 80,then D1...nice eh?...I close the 360 for 2 seconds ( I tried it many times with 1-5 seconds ) the status is still D1. I start the 360 again...whathever I do...it remains there

Status 0xD1

I don't know what to do...I changed Sata ports but the only things I got was a constant 7f status and the other thing I got was

360 on=status going from 51 to D1 and back
360 off=D1

I kept swiching it on and off but nothing else happened...
Thanks a lot to someone that can help me...

When i use iprep im told my id is 7000, im using a abit ic7 max3 Motherboard, as i said i've flashed other drives before. I cant get my drive to connect, the only port that works is c000 for some reason, but it responds untill it get to the final stage ie 0x73 but it alwaay flashes over to 0x80 so the flash/read/write command wont work. I so dont need to buy another sata card as i know its possable to get it to work, can someone please help, im going my nut, and have had my xbox for around 2 months now, have plenty of games ready. Please can someone help, cheers

Hi I am new to modding and I am trying to do the firmware hack on my dvd drive I have a toshiba samsung drive on the elite system not sure if that makes a difference or not but anyway i am following textbooks tutorial and I have a via sata card and i made a usb boot disk using i prep with the right firmware 8x i believe and i followed the tutorial but when it boots through usb in the dos section all that comes up is the letter j then a underline flashing next to it and i can't do anything. I forgot to copy the idex or whatever that file name is before making the boot usb so would that be the problem or am i plugging in my xbox at the wrong time i do it when my computer starts loading up just before it goes to the dos section of the tutorial any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.
