Title: Xbox Backup Creator 2.3 - Sh-d162c Kreon
Post by: mingwingming on October 21, 2006, 06:03:00 AM
Hi finally firmwared my MS28 last night, and am now trying to make a backup of my Original Saints Row using Backup Creator 2.3 and my Sammy SH-D162C with Kreon 0.81 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
If i go to make the Complete Backup I get as far as SS and then it fails me, If I ignore it will create the .iso and .dvd file but when burnt (using Clonecd) it fails.. wasnt suprised !!

I tried playing around and if I goto Drive Tools and hit Security Sector I get the error Invalid Security Sector Detected Abort Retry Ignore,  if I click Ignore it does seem to save a SS file ??   Sure im being a dumb ass.. anyhelp would be appreciated dont want to waste too many Verbatim discs !!  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sleep.gif)

Also under the Read Tab  what does Current Partition do as opposed to complete backup..

is there anymore info tha that? what does the log say? can you send me the ss to look at?

Current partition is just that..the current partition, nothing extra is done, just like as if you used isobuster to read the data.  Complete backup does all the work to make an xtreme style image.

You've probably already tried this, it seems like a fairly complex problem you're running into...

Try restarting.

I couldn't get XB Backup Creator to extract a ss.bin forever it always gave me an error. I tried restarting and it did it first try. I was impressed. From then on I haven't had any errors, but have always restarted before using xb backup creator anyway just for good measures.

I'm sure you've already tried this though.

Good luck.

Dustin

E10F3110 0004FB20 00FB04DF 0020339F <---Valid

The bytes in bold are the "PSN of first sector of the game partition"

Yours
0x0102F120 - 0x30000 = 0xFFF120 (decimal 16773408)

Valid
0x0004FB20 - 0x30000 = 0x1FB20 (decimal 129824)

So... I get this info from the drive, something must be interfering with how the drive gets the info.  I have heard of this before and usually it comes down to hardware config issues.  What you can do for now is ignore the error and then when the reading is done, extract the ss, hex edit it, merge the ss back in before writing.  I don't know for sure if this will get you by, but it is something to try.

Redline99 thanks for the quick response, well it certainly gives me something to work on, I shall try the Hex Edit/ss Merge ,   not something I done before but sounds like sadistic fun! ! !  Im a sucker for messing with stuff (possibly why theres a hardware config somewhere on my rig  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) )

Should I find any results on fixing it which i will try my hardest to sort this weekend I shall most definitly post back with the cause(s) so you all know.

Thanks for the reply and thanks for the app even as it stands it will be very handy.

All the best

I have the same exact problem.  IT happens to me on XBC and Schtrom's 3.0 also.  It just started happening.  It used to work fine.  Now it happens on every disk i try to rip.  I am using Kreon 0.81.  Any ideas?

well the "Invalid security sector detected." means that now all the data or the bad data was found. This can happen sometimes on the SH-D162C.  Can you use the drive tools tab to extract the ss? What about other programs can they extract the ss correctly?

NO, ive tryed all the available software's to try and extract the ss.bin but no avail, keeps coming back saying unable to get security sector...i can save the PFI,DMI & the video sectors but not the Security Sectors...  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/uhh.gif)

Also when i click on Ignore it will carry on Backing up the game but their is no security sector on it...

How is you SH-D162C connected? USB? IDE primary/slave? Transfer mode DMA or PIO? Etc... I think we need more information on the hardware configuration.  Also on the software side to you have any Virtual CD/DVD drives? Do you have any CD/DVD filter drivers (like AnyDVD for changing region codes on the fly, etc...) They can cause problems too.  Any one of these things mentioned could cause problems. I might be hard for me to pin point the exact problem for you, you need to look at your setup and experiment.

My drive is setup as IDE on DMA2 in the bios i have alcohol virtual dvd/cd, i dont use CD/DVD filter drivers, I do have pcouffin device for 32bits systems in my device manager, but i think that thisis for CloneCD or for the Virtual device for Alcohol...

SORRY, the Samsung Drive is set as MASTER on IDE... and the PIO is at 4 i think in the bios..

PIO mode can cause problems and alcohol virtual dvd/cd might cause problems. Start with looking into those items, hopefully you'll find the right combination.

Is windows using PIO (look in the device manager under IDE)

Had the same problem on my rig and have found a solution that works on my machine 100% everytime,i used to put the disk in first and then load the prog and would get the error all the time, now i load the prog first and then put the disk in and now all is well,i was trying all the virtual drive stuff and shutting down all my progs and the resetting the pc crap and after all that it was something as simple as this.
Hope it works for you guys, and could you post your results.

It's OK ive sussed it, you have to make an image first with the Xbox Backup Creator, and their u have the bin, with security sector in place, in the seperate BIN File that gets created with the prog.. The method with ejecting first then load up the disc once the prog loads, DOES NOT WORK WITH Schtrom360XtractV3.0, i still get an ERROR.. But at lest ive got the other PROG to fall back on... AND THANKS AGAIN FOR THIS INFO,,,marantz..  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

marantz - thanks for the info, I'll look it over.  The only thing is the code that executes at load time is the same code that executes later, for example switching from aspi to spti and such.  Interesting though. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

just eject the disc VIA Xbox Backup Creator software in the DRIVE TOOLS TAB, put in the disc click on LOAD in the DRIVE TOOLS TAB on the program, wait till it loads then click on START in the READ TAB, and away it goes it starts to BACK UP the disc with SECURITY SECTOR in place. If you insert the disc and close the DVD-ROM TRAY BEFORE YOU LOAD THE SOFTWARE it will not pickup the SECURITY SECTOR on the disc for some reason, but if you follow what i just sayed you will have NO PROBLEMS backing up your ORIGINAL GAME..  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

JUST HOPE THEIR IS A FIX FOR THIS SOON, WERE YOU CAN PUT THE DISC IN WITHOUT USING THE SOFTWARE TO EJECT & LOAD IT FOR YOU.... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sleep.gif)  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sleep.gif)

I tried this and I am still getting the same error...I have tried a few things, removing d-tools and other burning programs, but that does not seem to help. Any one have any other work arounds.
