My question is will this program support the 8 in 1 stealth and allow you to burn backups that will play with and extract games from the hitachi drive or do you have to have a specific one. I have tried creationg backups with my hitachi drive flashed with opastealth 8 in 1 and kept getting a device error.

Redline99- Kudos for another fine update on a killer program, I've been using it since drive tools.

One quick question though, is it possible to add image extraction support for C64eva's first XBOX1 samsung 605b firware hack? I've got the SH-D162C drive, and it would be awesome to create my XBOX1 backups without having to open up my XBOX every time I want to create a backup for my samsung 605b.

Keep up the good work, it's people like you that keep the scene alive and well. smile.gif

I really like the looks of this tool too.  I'm anxious to hear your reply to some of the questions that were asked.  I may have to get myself one of these.

whats the difference between the SPTI and the ASPI settings? which should I use? also i know most of the stuff on the program is pretty self explanatory but is the tut for this program?

Tony42077 - I think the ss is a little different and then it gets placed in a different location.  I may try to add support back in for it, but I'll have to look into if it would be possible to transform the ss from kreons firmware into one that works with the 605b.

eric the midget- SPTI and ASPI are common api interfaces to talk to SCSI style devices.  SPTI is build into Windows NT and up but only available if you're logged in as an administrator. ASPI drivers are 3rd party interfaces to do the same thing but are not limited to being an admin.

Love your program (or at least from what I've seen of it).  One problem I've been having though is everytime I try reading a disk it tells me the Hitachi GDR-3120L doesn't have proper suppor for unlocking the game partition.  Then if I try to move forward anyway it tells me that the Xtreme style game partition is non available.  I have a hitachi 47d flashed with Maximus Garyopa Xtreme 2.2 Stealth.

Thanks for the help

angry_marmoset - no one I know has been able to get the hitachi to unlock as per the directions in the firmware's readme.  When the Hitachi can unload the game partition I'll be able to support it better.

Anyone still looking for a sh-d162 try a company called vesalia. They are out of germany I believe. I ordered one from there and it was here within a week(to the U.S.). I don't remember how much it costed me, try not to remember all my electronics purchases lol.

Hmmmmm. Weird.

Not sure if someone can help me or not. I don't want to have to transfer 7.05 gb via wireless connection between 2 PCs in my home.

So I went onto the other computer to just burn the game from that one.

I first tried XB Backup Creator 2.3 on the PC, and it actually has the same exact model burner as my PC does that burned successful (DW1655 by Benq). As XB Backup Creator starts to try to write, I get a blue screen in windows and the PC restarts. It goes too quick for me to read it.

Anyone know where I can obtain the log for such an error?

Windows restarts then and says that windows has recovered from a serious error. This is really weird. Both firmwares on the DW1655 are up to date, and the same firmware as well. Should I try ASPI mode instead? I've only tried 2.3 on this 'other pc' so far. I was successful on the other PC using 2.2, should I maybe switch back to 2.2? Hmmmm.

Any specs you may need posted let me know, and I will try to gather them from each pc to make comparisons.

Dustin

This wouldn't let me edit my post above, so here is what I found and wanted to add.

*EDIT: I've come up with some more info on the error.
When windows reboots it says 'click here to view the info about the error' so I do and this is what I get:

Error Signature
BCCode:9c BCP1:00000004  BCP2:805460F0  BCP3:B2000000  BCP4:00070F0F  OSver: 5_1_2600  SP:2_0  Product:256_1

Not sure if that helps anyone.

BTW everytime I try to burn a backup on this pc it causes a coaster, so my experimenting I'm doing isn't cheap lol. I've been using STPI and that causes the BSOD. I tried ASPI once and I simply just get an error in XB Backup Creator.

Both still create a coaster. However using ASPI doesn't cause the BSOD. Weird.

Hope some of that info helps. I probably won't try another backup on this PC until I can figure something out, these DL discs are too expensive.

Thanks guys.

Dustin

I believe that is the part of the log when I used ASPI. I could try it again of course, and copy down the error, but I'm not so sure I want to waste another DL disc. Maybe I will though if you want.

I really don't get it. Is there like an optical drive tester or some type of utility to test every single function it is supposed to do? I wish I could get the BSOD error message written down, maybe that would help.

Anyway, I found the ASPI file from the NERO website and copied it to system32 folder, and oddly enough, there wasn't a file already there, should there have been? In other words, it didn't ask me to overwrite the existing file.

I guess for now I'll stick to burning upstairs until maybe someone has a suggestion. Maybe if I get time this weekend I will swap the optical drive upstairs with the one downstairs and see if each sticks to what they've been doing thus far.

Dustin

*EDIT: Hey BTW Redline you joined on my birthday lol. Weird.

*EDIT: Another thing, I've got alcohol installed, no virtual drive though.

Also, should my booktype be set to DVD-ROM or DVD+R DL? I've got it set at DVD+R DL.

lol. As if I can add any more additions. It wouldn't let me edit my post, does it only allow an edit once or twice? Or maybe a certain amount of time? Oh well. I just noticed something. My burner upstairs here has BCHB firmware (benq dw1655, the one that WORKS) and the one downstairs has the most current, BCDB(berq dw1655, the one that DOESNT WORK).

I suppose that could make a huge difference, not sure though.

Hey guys.  I've been having a really strange problem with Xbox Backup Creator.  It rips my backups perfectly, and I have successfully burned 3 of those backups.  Unfortunately, over half the time I attempt to burn with XBC it freezes about halfway through.  It doesn't give an error or anything, just freezes.  It seems to always be at a different % too.

Afterwards, I am unable to force quit or anything.  This program seems amazing, but I just wish I could get it working consistently.  I've defragged my HD and have nothing else running in the background, so I'm really lost as to what the problem could be.  If anybody could help me out I'd really appreciate it.  Here are my drive specs:

Reader: Samsung SH-162c with Kreon's latest firmware.
Burner: NEC ND-3550a with Liggy Dee 1.Y6.
Discs: Verbatim DVD+R DL

Anyway, thanks in advance to anyone that feels like helping a brotha out.

PS. Thanks Redline for creating an awesome app.  I can't imagine how much of your free time you've devoted to this project, but it must be a lot.  I can't wait to get it working correctly on my setup.

book type should be set to DVD-ROM

on the options tab you can turn off "reserve track"

If you want to use the nero aspi then move the frog aspi or rename it, from the exe folder.

Wow, thanks for your really quick response.

I already have the booktype set to DVD-ROM, so I guess I'll try turning off "reserve track."  Do I have to move the Nero ASPI into XBC's dir, or do I just have to remove or rename the frog ASPI to get it to default to the Nero one?

Sorry for so many questions.. I'm not very knowledgable at all with DVD write settings.

I have the exact set up as this guy except for the disc and im experiencing the same problem except mine doesn't even burn the backup it just freezes when creating the layer or something. What do i do to prevent this? Insted of burning with XBC can i correctly burn the image using DVDDecrypter?

No.1 G-

Hopefully someone will figure out what is going on with our setups, but in the meantime I've found that the latest Schtrom360extract 3.0 + ImgBurn works nicely.  Just make sure you've got your booktype set to DVD-ROM and follow this tutorial to set up ImgBurn -> http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=516786

Like I said, hopefully someone could shed some light on what our issue is, but in the meantime this seems to be working for me.  Xbox Backup Creator seems like an awesome application.. I'm just bummed that I can't get it working with my setup.

hi there fartnugg, i coastered a few of my media using xbc 2.1 write feature.  maybe my config is not right but i still use xbc 2.1 to read my game disc.  then i use imgburn to burn them.  so far works fine.  my config - sh-d162c with kreon's 0.81, dvr-111d with tdb 1.23, verbatim dvd+r dl.  cheers!

Post by: Redline99 on October 23, 2006, 11:55:00 AM
The Samsung SH-162C seems to be a very touchy drive, a lot of the problems are related to the configuration of the computer.  Hopefully the new drive kreon added support for isn't so picky.

You can put the nero apsi dll in the same folder as the exe, the app can find it there.  It can also be anythere in the path, but app folder is easier to remember you are using it.

If you guys get me some more burners I would be able to add better support for them. smile.gif  I only have one burner available to me to test on.  It makes it hard to add broad support when I can't get up close and personal with the drives. So if it doesn't burn for you, use a different app like ImgBurn or CloneCD.

GREAT APP!!!!.....but how would u go about making backups of xbox1 games that would work on the 360. None of my current backups will run. So Im guessing something has to be different. And also do you still have to use DL media for xbox1?

Thanks and what a great program...so far its doin perfect

Are you saying I HAVE to use imagburn to write with, or can I not just use XBC. As for media, I have been using RITEK, and have not had any issues as of yet. I even rerippped the backups just to make sure it would read and have had no issues.....so far. I have learned to always burn 2x though. Im using version 2.3 build 0185

you don't have to use imgburn to write the backup disc.  you can use xbc write option, perfectly ok.  i was just testing imgburn at that time when i write the xbox1 game disc.  actually, i used xbc 2.1 write option when i backed up my PGR3 and it works till today.

it is your preference and your option to use either xbc write or imgburn.  cheers!!

Will these XB one backups work on the 360?

I thought I read somewhere online that you've got to do some special stuff. Not sure though. Maybe XB Creator makes that easy like it does everything else.

if your 360 console has never been updated to play xbox1 games, you need to do something.  it is mentioned in xbox.com website.  go to here for info.

after which, your console will be able to play xbox1 original and backup copies provided it is flashed with hacked fw.

BerT69 - Yes you still have to use DVD+R DL
QUOTE
What does the option "use sector mapper (xbox1)" mean?

That is an alternate way of reading the dvd, it skips over the bad sectors making the read time 10 minutes instead of 3 hours.

birdwig - You still need to flash the firmware in your 360's drive to use these backups.

stevenh78 - hard to say, hardware setups depend on too many factors to list here. You just have to try until it all works good. smile.gif

My FW is already flashed inside my 360.

I guess I would just need to connect to xb live and DL the 'update' from MS to my hard drive in the 360, then I should be able to succesfully burn xb1 games using XB Backup Creator and play them. That's pretty rad.

hi birdwig, if your 360 console is flashed with a hacked fw, in my opinion, it is better to download that default.iso from xbox.com website and burn it to a cd-rw.  then you insert it into your console and it will update it to play xbox1 original and backed up game disc.  i did it this way, just to play it safe because i do not know of any complication if i go Live.....

I am in the process of making a backup con my original BLACK xbox1 game. I am using the latest version of XBC and I have a question:

¿It is normal that  the process of creating the iso is very slow?

I f use the option "Use Sector Mapper", the process of creating the iso is very fast. But using this option, after writing to DVD this will work on my 360?

What method is recommended for a safe backup?

Thanks..

Dont know why this happened, and haven't seen a thread about it but here goes.

This is using:

sh-d162c with kreons latest firmware
sammy drive with m25
firmware 4.2b
Verbatim DL's
Dvr-110

I backed up Oblivion, PGR3, COD2, and Kameo.  All worked great and there was no problem.

Then I tried to back up my other 3 games and couldn't get a SS on any of them.  Kept getting "invalid security sector" over and over.  Next game, nope, no ss.  Then I tried one of the games I HAD JUST SUCCESSFULLY BACKED UP, and boom same thing, now all of a sudden the COD2 ss is invalid.

So I come in here, see some obscure post by some guy about how he just rebooted his pc and all was fine again.  So I go and do it thinking "what the hell, i'll try anything" and it works.

Can someone give me any idea as to why this would happen?  After that reboot not one problem and this is after I tried to read these games about 10X.   (IMG:style_emoticons/default/uhh.gif)

Other than that this is the sweetest program eva.

heet- I'm not sure, but I do know that the sh-d162c is a finicky piece of hardware and I suspect that it may not be very stable in all hardware configurations.  I'm glad that a simple reboot solved your issue.

How is everyone doing with the sh-d163a?  Is it more stable?

I have the sh-d162c with kreon's v.81 and  a samsung sh-s182m dl burner running in a Windows Vista RC1 machine and it's working fine.

The only thing i had a problem with is playing the backup in my hitachi v59dj drive.  I reflashed it again to make sure the flash was good and it still won't play the backups.  It is playing the "to play this disc..."

I think it is the Memorex DL media so i'm going to return the memorex and buy verbatim to try.  I will post on here if this solves my problem.

Yeah. It's weird and I got all frustrated when I first used the utility b/c I kept getting errors, but then read somewhere about a simple restart and did so and it worked fine. I guess just restart before every rip/burn.

I only use this to rip the disc.  Attempt to write at your own peril, both times I have tried and it hangs after initialising the disc on verbs and I am using a pio 111d 1.23

I would recommend ripping with this program, but burning with img burn

I am curruently use a Samsung MS25 drive to backup my games.  However I get this message.

The disk seems to be unlocked already.  By continuing the video section will be filled will be filled with empty data and will not be stealth.

How can I make my backups stealth?

keystroke - that image is not a stealth image... you should not be downloading them anyways... smile.gif

buster1395 - don't unlock the disk. (getting the ss on the drive tools tab can unlock the disk)  Just insert the disk and go straight to "complete backup"

I read a couple of post down and found my answers. One more quick question... if I want to make a copy of the Xbox games to play on my Xbox360... I use the Complete Backup... and then burn.. Do I have to do anything else?

Can I use my Hitachi 59DJ for ripping the game? Or it have to be a Sammy?

Where can I buy Sh-d162c?

The Hitachi has always given problems seeing the game partition, I've heard of some people doing it, but I have not.  But I haven't had time to look at the latest Hitachi firmwares to test it out.

Google.  You might want to look for the newest drive Kreon supports. The SH-D162C has proven to be a very finicky drive. I think the other may be easier to work with, atleast fewer issues reported.

This is, without a doubt, the coolest thing since sliced bread. I have the exact same setup mentioned a few pages ago, NEC 3550a with L&D Y6 firmware, sh-d162c, verbs...hell I even have my d162c running through a 24" IDE cable to a pci-ide add-in card! Reading and writing via xbc work fine. Only thing is, no matter what burn speed I pick, it always burns at 8x. While this is astonishingly quicker than I was previously burning, and I hadn't had any problems...well I spoke too soon. Playing Gears of War today, I twice got the pop-in-from-the-side "clean the disc" message with the little red X. Redline, do you need me to send you an NEC 3550a with liggy & dee on it? If you'll ship it back to me when you're done, I'll do it. Always good to have a spare... smile.gif

Its definitely a breakthrough, but it still needs refinement. Redline, did you have no reply to my offer? Last night I started a Gears of War with ImgBurn at 2.4x. In the verify stage, it failed due to CIRC unrecoverable errors. Would this be a problem with that burn? Or maybe with the image I created using xbc?

I find imgburn the best for the actual burning.

I have a Sammy 162c (kreon .81) and pio 111d and have no issues, except if I use xbox backup creator to burn the image then it hangs and I end up with a coaster.  For ripping XBC is awesome

Hi guys and sorry for the nob question - I have read the thread, but can't seem to find the answer I need.

I have a samsung drive, which is flashed with Kreon 8.0 - have tried to use Schtrom but get an error relating to having the inject the SS at a later date?? Anyway, stumbled across Redline's excellent program and ready to use as an alternative, but I can't seem to see any mention of what it will work with.  I have an nme-360 chip ready to install, but obviously I don't want to start increasing my collection of DL coasters without being clear on exactly what to do.

My games are getting more and more scratched, and my two year old likes 'helping' by taking them out of the 360 and handing them to me with sticky fingers!!  I need to know I can back everything up and keep them out of his reach!

Cheers in advance!

Darren

Well I assume you meant you have the Samsung sh-d162c flashed with Kreon v0.81 and not 8.0 smile.gif.

I would recommend using XBC 2.3 for sure, you literally need to press two buttons, one to rip and one to burn (if you plan on using XBC to burn as well).

So you don't have a flashed rom drive and plan to use a chip is what you are saying?  Any reason why in particular?  I Would recommend flashing the ROM drive instead IMHO.

Cheers for the response 328iGuy - I have 8.1 ready to flash my samsung SH-D162C - it is currently flashed with 8.0 at the moment.  Will change that when I get home tonight.

Yep, currently have a completely unmodded 360, and what I think is a clone nme360 chip, as it does not look like the pics on the site.   Was thinking that the chip would be better way to go because it allegedly 'sleeps' when not playing backups and does not affect your on-line presence - not that I play on line, but you never know what the future holds! ;o)  Why would you choose flashing over a chip?

Do I need any special equipment to flash the drive, am I looking at getting hold of the Xecuter connectivity kit or is it something I can do now?

Cheers!

The firmware versions ar actually 0.80 and 0.81, not 8.0 for the record. smile.gif

There are many FAQ's and threads on here with regards to flashing as opposed to mod chips etc... just do a search, I Wouldn't want to give you any incorrect information.  I play online on a daily basis with the flashed drive and love it.  No complaints.

Redline, while making DOA Xtreme 2, I noticed a little message about the layer 1 shift (not that but something like that) being unexpectedly off, I compared the lba's and it was off by 4. I believe I saw this in imgburn. I'm not trying to blame anyone, I just want to point it out. It really does suck to not know which burning option to choose. These are expensive coasters. Thanks as always though, let me know if there's anything more I can do to contribute. By the way, I made this new name recently so I'm not a noob.

First off, I love this program, very well done and simple.

I have a problem, however.  The first backup I tried to burn with the program burned fairly quickly (under 30 mins) and worked perfectly, but the next 3 have taken nearly 2 hours each to burn.  The "Drive" column in the middle of the window fluxuates up and down every second or so and it takes for ever.  Does anyone have any suggestions on what I may be doing wrong? The dvd's work perfectly when finished, but it's taking forever...

I have the same question.  I've ripped the GAME.iso file from my original, and also ripped the SS.bin, PFI.bin, and DMI.bin files.  I normally have burned my backups using CloneCD.  What program can I use to inject the SS, PFI, and DMI files into the ISO to burn?  Before, I was using DVDInfoPro, ISOBuster, and the batch file that came with the Xtreme firmware distro, but that usually had the VIDEO file separate.  This rip seems to keep the VIDEO with the GAME file all in one.  Thanks in advance.

i am using the dvr-111d and the current issue i have appears to be burning related, at various stages during the b biggrin.gif urn the left hand "file" column drops down to nothing and xbc crashes and windows stops responding. The burner is set to master with DMA enabled.

What are the known issues if any that causes this bar to drop?

Redline - Kick ass tool!

All - I had a lot of the same problems described here, slow write speeds, program crashing, high cpu utlization, etc.

I have an Asus P2B-E and a LiteOn SHW-160P6S

I always assumed the IDE controller was on the Intel ICH8R chipset. The only thing I have on the PATA/IDE side is the dvd burner. I started looking into it and noticed it's in PIO mode, no matter what I do I can't get it in DMA. I then read in the manual (what a concept, RTFM) that it's on the jmicron chip and not the Intel chipset. I had never installed the jmicron drivers because I didn't think I was using it. Needless to say, after installing the drivers all is now well.

HTH's someone.

I have the same thing! Wasted 2 verbatims the other day. Has anyone figured out why it hangs while burning? I guess I'll have to try to burn the backups with imgburn.

yes.  you got to flash the firmware from stock to kreon 0.81 firmware in order to read xbox1/xbox360 game discs properly.  cheers!

Thats all you need, you just need to flash the drive with a new firmware, Kreon v0.81.  Generally if you buy from someone on here it will be pre-flashed for you ready to go.  Then its literally 1 click with XBOX Backup Creator to backup a disc to an ISO image. smile.gif

Wicked program for ripping, but not so good for burning.
Just reporting another ripping error. This is the first backup I've tried to burn.

Ripped original DOA4 with XBC2.3 with no problems ( took a while though, about 1 hour give or take, not sure if thats normal). Ripped with SH-D162C flashed with Kreons 0.81.

Burnt with Pioneer 111d with stock firmware and Verbatim DL+R. Saved the iso on an external HDD via USB connection (not sure if that should make a difference though). Started to burn ok, said it had the SS, DMI, and PFI, it also mentioned something about a "possible power off or bus failure error" or something like that, but then it said "trying to recover" and then the DVD drive starting spinning up again and it seemed to burn fine. It burnt really slow for about 1 and 1/2 hours and got up to 32.51% and then became non responsive/froze. The last few details it gave were:

Syncing Cache
Initialization complete
Starting write
Removing Tag Information
Cancelled at LBA: 0(times)00125A00 (1202688)
Synching Cache
Closing Track
Finalizing Disk

Hopefully Redline can use that info to work out some bugs with the burning aspects.  Oh yeah I'm using Windows XP. I'm going to try burning with Image Burn or CloneCD. I will post my results.

Well I tried ImgBurn and it got to 27% then this happened:

Writing Image...
Waiting for buffers to recover...
Waiting for hard disk activity to reach threshold level...
Writing Image...
Waiting for buffers to recover...
Waiting for hard disk activity to reach threshold level...
Writing Image...
Waiting for buffers to recover...
Failed to read from file: DOA4.iso
Reason: The semaphore timeout period has expired.

The buffer kept running down to zero, and then it kept "waiting for buffers to recover" and "Waiting for hard disk activity to reach threshold level" . It did this continuely throughout the burn proccess. Could this be due to the fact that the ISO is on an external HDD via a USB1 connection? Is the transfer rate from the external HDD too slow?

And does anyone know what a semaphore timeout period is and why it could timeout?

Thanks for any help.

so im about to get my new sammy drive in the mail anytime soon...just need to verify some thing

-does the drive need to be on master? cause i have a dvd-rom set on master, and then my nec3520A DL burner set on cable select or possibly slave...

-what do i need to worry about "stealth" images..i dont play on live, and i have a hiatachi drive.

-do i HAVE to disconnect all of my other drives when i am flashing my new one with kreon?

thanks for all the help cant wait to test  XBC on GOW!!

Here is a small update of some upcoming features...

Burning using ImgBurn 2.1...
IPB Image

Burning using Nero...
IPB Image

Image Browser, From ISO or off of DVD
Region Checking (xbe/xex)
Full Tree Extraction, Single File Extraction
(ISO Creation and file injection is planned, but not yet)
IPB Image

There are a few other features I'm working on and also a few stability fixes.  Right now I'm not sure of a timeline. I might break off what I have now and do a release soon. Some of the other features require a lot more time/work that I haven't had lately.

HoRnEyDvL - Yes, matter of fact... smile.gif

Helena - USB1 prob wont work so good... as you can tell.

TheSmooth1 - make sure to boot the pc using the Enable0800 method for newer Xtreme firmwares

pb_05 - drive doesn't have to be the master, but ouy may have to move things around, depends on your configuration.  My app make stealth images by default, dont worry about it.  You dont need to make stealth images, but you should as an extra precaution.  You dont have to disconnect all the other drive to flash but, again you should as a extra precaution.

I have a question. I heard for your backups (since I am legitimately making copies of my own game) that the SS files and the PFI and DMI sectors are a good idea to backup and burn to the disk. I go to Drive Tools and save them to the same directory I rip the game. Then I burn the game by selecting the image with the program. Is it recording all of those files to it or do I have to do more?

Hi,

I need help using this program. I understand how to rip the game from the disc however when burning using this wonderful program I dont know how and where to set the booktype for the Pioneer 110d to dvd-rom.

Can anyone help?

Update

Just to add I ripped a game with Schtrom360Xtract_V3.1 then burned with Xbox Backup Creator 2.3. When I place the game back into the drive and try to rip it I get this error "The disc seems to be unlocked in the mode with both partitions available. This mode is not currently supported".

This is what makes me believe Im doing this process wrong!

Don't worry because when burning to a Dual Layer DVD, almost all burners burn to DVD-ROM booktype. The 110d is one of them.

I'm planning on using buying a PC drive and connecting it to my laptop via a USB 2.0 drive enclosure. If you all had to choose one, would you pick the IDE or SATA version of the Samsung drive? Does one perform any better than the other? Would one work better considering I will be connecting it to my laptop via an IDE/SATA to USB convertor? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi, just thought I'd let everyone know that once I changed the external HDD to a internal via an IDE cable, it all went perfect. So I guess thats was my problem. I burned using ImgBurn, I haven't tried reburning with XBC again. I'll just stick with ImgBurn as I know it works. By the way my SH-D162 is set on Master and my Pioneer 111d on Slave incase anyone was wondering.

Excellent program for Ripping though Redline!!! I'll try burning another game with XBC if you want me to  smile.gif

Thanks for the great tool.  I have one question....
I searched for about an hour and can't find what I'm looking for so maybe I didn't word my search correctly.

But can you make a backup from a backup or does it have to be from the original.

My guess is you need the original but just wanting to get a correct answer.

Thanks

my app doesn't support reading from a backup.

remember once you have created a backup, it just become a normal dvd, nothing special. use any dvd copy program to go from there.  Not sure how the dvd copy programs handle the layer break, but I'm sure you can find out with a little work.

Thanks for the feedback....
Let me make sure I asked correctly....

Here is my issue:
I have an original Rainbow Six game
I made a backup of it.

The backup worked fine for awhile but has slight scratches so when I get farther into the game it gives Dirty Disc Error sometimes.  I suspect it is going to finally stop working one day.

I went back to the original to make another copy but it has a small crack near the middle of the disc.  I accidentally had some stuff piled on the Rainbow case with the disc inside.

I have attempted using both extract tools to make an .iso of the backup but it fails.

My H493A also has started disappearing from Windows for some reason.

I looked into various DVD tools to extract to .iso but no luck.

From your response do you mean that once the .iso is burned to the DL DVD that it is treated as a normal DVD disc?

Thanks

the DVD+R DL with Enable0800.iso on it goes into the TS-H943A. Power the TS-H943A with that dvd in the drive, wait 15-30 seconds, then power up the PC.  If the TS-H943A is compatible with your chipset then it should continue booting without any problems.

You should power off PC and XBOX
Insert 0800.iso DVD into XBOX and allow about 10-20 secods for it to finish
Then power on your PC
While PC is booting you should see your drive show up in the BIOS Preboot screen
Once in windows you should see XBOx DVD Drive in My Computer

Then use Redline99's awesome tool.  Works like a champ

It's probably missing the video section.  Use the stealth check on the ISO tools tab and see what it says. If that doesn't work open up the image in IsoBuster or a hex editor and look around.

But don't burn it as it is probably not valid as it is right now.

Hi folks, sorry to jump in with my first post being a question.

I have been burning disks without trouble using XBC and a pioneer 110, every disk that passed the stealth check burned and played fine. However I have been tinkering a bit (not with the pioneer or XBC) while installing a bitsetting firmware on a Sony writer so I can use it with XBC. I am not saying that has caused the problem but now every disk I try and burn I get (just after the 'initializing drive' message) : LUN not ready; Long write in progress. this message repeats until the disk finishes, and then the weird thing is they seem to play ok. What have I fecked up, anyone please help?
Thanks, Messa.

 uhh.gif

PS I get the message with the Pioneer that worked fine previously, not the Sony.

Hi danejadee,

No its not absolutely necessary to buy a Pioneer 111d to burn your backups. Other DVD burners may also work just fine. But IN CASE your backups don't work, even after XBC 2.3 reports that your image passed all checks, then it might be that your burner is causing a problem.

Personally, I have burnt backups successfully using my Plextor PX-716UF external DVD burner as well as my Compaq Presario V6000's LG DVD burner ( model GMA-4082N ) on cheapo Office Depot DVD+RDL media (I lucked out and got 25-pack for $5).

The recommendation is for people who want to have the absolutely perfect long lasting DVD backups and are willing to pay a bit extra for the perfect DVD burner and Verbatim DL media. With media this cheap, I personally don't mind low reliability and would rather not spend extra on the perfect hardware. Others hold different points of view, so to each his own. Its up to you to buy a Pioneer if you want, but your LG AND Samsung, both will PROBABLY work just fine.

Hi redline, as indicated in other post about Star trek legacy. I tried all day to extract the game, but finally had to revert to the old method with isobuster for the game.iso.

Not sure if it just coincidence or was made on purpose by the publisher.

Hey Redline99, just wondering whether you have you attempted to make a working ISO image of an Xbox 1 disc that would load in a 360 with the new 5.0 firmware using your program? If you tried it does it work?

I'm talking about the complete process of making an ISO of the Xbox 1 disc as well as extracting the files of the ISO with your program and using a compatible GDFImage.exe or similar tool to make a 'working' backup of the ISO that would load on a single layer disc using Xtreme 5.0...

If you did then any help on the specifics would be appreciated.. And if your program doesn't yet support making ISO's from the disc that would work in any way on the new firmware it would be greatly appreciated if I could know.. Thanks

sosotiit - I'll take a look into it, the disk is prob ok. I've seen that behavior before and I would like to fix it. Thanks!

ILLPLEASA - I'm working on it, it coming slowly because I have some other commitments I have to take care of. I can extract the iso but I haven't got around to builing them yet, soon hopefully.  Then I need to make a few mods to allow the different media types.  Currently only DVD+R DL is allowed and I need to change all the code related to that.

tamaratimmers - Thanks smile.gif

SnoopX - Thanks smile.gif

lifesaflaw123- Im not sure really, I think it is related to the drive timing out on a command and then doing a reset to recover itself. ??? But I'm really not sure. If anyone knows more about that error, please let me know so I can address it properly. " Power On, or Bus Device Reset occurred"

"POWER CALIBRATION AREA ERROR" is normal sometimes usually it will work within 5 tries.. if not just ignore it.. you can also turn it off on the options tab

sosotiit - I'll take a look into it, the disk is prob ok. I've seen that behavior before and I would like to fix it. Thanks!

Thanks Redline for your awesome tool. I've created backups just fine before using it. This may help (or not, I don't know), but the PFI from the Star Trek Legacy disc is: 0102 3110 0003 0000 00FC F9C3 0003 086F. Same PFI was extracted by DVDInfoPro as well. This is different than the PFI's on all my other backups (FEAR, Viva Pinata, Gears of War), which have always been 0102 3110 0003 0000 00FC F89E 0003 0A8F. That may have something to do with it, but being a noob, I have no idea what this really means. I'm not sure if other games have different PFI's.

When I tried to merge (using build360.bat) my video.iso, pfi.bin, ss.bin and dmi.bin using the PFI that I extract from the disc, XBC reported that the PFI was "unreadable" or something like that, I forget what exactly the error was. So I rebuilt it using the standard PFI that I got out of one of my other games, and then it passed all the checks. I burnt the game then, and it works fine.

Hope that helps your analysis a bit, and for others who are trying to backup their copies.

Alright fellas I really need some help here. I have one of the dreaded hitachi version 78's, I have successfully gotten my drive into mode b, rebooted my computer using slax, and I even think I have a good firmware mod using the tutorial found on this site. My problem is this I have used DVDinfoPro, IsoBuster, Xboxbackup creater, and even Schtrom360. None of these programs work for me. DVDinfopro does everything its supposed to do I guess, i seem to have no problems with that one but as far as,

 IsoBuster (tut found here http://www.traptrakz.com/X360/tutorial)
is concerned everytime I try to copy the game I get an error saying the end address field has an illegal value so I continue on anyway I get another message saying the length field has an illegal value. so continue on and i get unreadable sector error message.

Schtrom360 in this program I get a "no xbox drive detected" error message

XBC in this program I get the "drive does not support ss extraction" error message skip past that and it attempts to rip game but then at about 3.51% I get the invalid field in CDB error. This thing has really got me beat can anyone help?

Forgive the noob question, but I am trying to rip a game to iso using XBC2.3 and a SH-D163A with Kreon 0.80 FW.  I insert the disc, click Start (after selecting the right drive from the Options menu), and I get an Unreferenced Data Read Error.  The only way to continue ripping seems to be to check the Zero Fill button for all remaining sector errors.  Then it proceeds extrememely slowly, as though most of the disc has these errors.  Is this typical behavior?  Am I doing something wrong?

(The game I am trying to rip is the Burger King Pocket Bike Racer)

Of course, then I tried Gears of War, and it ripped the whole thing with no errors in 14m...

I guess my question then becomes, will a backup with all those errors still work?  Should I select the "Use Sector Mapper" even though it's a 360 game?  My guess is that there is a lot of blank space on the disc (small game) so they fill it with junk...

Threepw00d - thanks for the info. I have seen that before, where the pfi or sometimes the security sector will say that the layer capacities are different from our normal values.  I think the disk is fine, it is just an odd reading. I'm not sure what others have done to fix it. Glad you got it working though.

ognam - hmmmm... No you are not doing anything wrong and no that is not typical behavior.  Any read errors on 360 disks should be suspect.  I would clean the disk and try again.

JB0101 - Right now there isn't very good support for the Hitachi's.  It really depends on the firmware features and how my app interacts/detects the drive.  Hopefully the Hitachi firmwares will stabilize and some kind of stanard will be made to make apps like mine use the drive in a more consistent manor.

I'm seeing a funky issue; and I hope my search ability isn't lacking.

I've just flashed my SH-D162 with Kreon's 0.81 firmware... I open Xbox Backup Creator v2.3. I see the following:

CODE

Xbox Backup Creator v2.3 Build:0185 By Redline99

So... SWEET; It sees the SH-D162C with Kreon firmware... except, in the dropdown box for picking DVD-ROMs -- The ONLY drive it lets me select is Drive E. There is nothing else in the list.

Any ideas?

I'm running on Windows Server 2003 R2 as my operating system, if that makes a difference.

Regards,

Hannibal

HannibalX - hmmm... what is does next is issure a "get features" command to the kreon drive.  If the drive doesn't respond with the proper response then the app will not add it to the drop down list.  I wonder why there is an issue there.

Redline -

Okay, so using DVDInfo Pro... and executing ' Show Profiles and Features ' - I get the following list;

CODE

                         Drive Profiles
Profile 0000h Reserved Profile
Profile 0010h DVD-ROM Read Only
Profile 0008h CD-ROM Read Only
                         Drive Features
Feature 0001h Core behaviour
Feature 0002h Morphing
Feature 0003h Removable Medium
Feature 0010h Random Readable
Feature 001dh Multi Read CD
Feature 001eh CD Read
Feature 001fh DVD Read
Feature 002ah DVD+RW Read
Feature 002bh DVD+R Read
Feature 003bh DVD+R Double Layer Read
Feature 0100h Power Management
Feature 0103h CD Audio Analog Play
Feature 0104h Microcode Upgradeable
Feature 0105h Timeout
Feature 0106h DVD CSS Authentication
Feature 0107h Real Time Streaming
Feature 010bh DVD CPRM Authentication

Obviously this is different than what XBC is doing, so from the KREON nfo, I sent the following custom command:

CODE

FF 08 01 10                    , 'Get Feature List'

In doing so, I get a sense error.

Oddly, I can send the unlock code to the drive... and then see the UDF filesystem in ISOBuster... I can also send the 4 commands for extracting the SS.bin; and I'm assuming what I get should be a valid SS bin.

The drive is connected via a Rosewill RC212 (VIA VT6421A chipset) PCI expansion card, if that matters.

Hey

First of all, I want to thank redline for making this beautiful app, works really nice.  Made backups of about 10 of my games and it woked flawlesly.

But recently I reinstalled my computer because to much crap was building up.  I reinstalled the operating system and installed the newest sata raid drivers.  So putting in the enable0800 disk then booting windows, it gets to the operating system np.

But the bad part is, now when i reinstalled ur app,  and I try to make the img, it always gets locked up.  After about 3% I keep getting I/O erros... It has really been frustraating me, tried everything.  I tried using differnet xbox360 games and xbox1 games, finding new sata drivers, reinstalling windows twice, upgrading firmware from xtreme4.2a to 5.0a and back down, but absolutely no luck and it is getting to me really bad grr.gif Maybe it is something I missed when reinstalling it? i have no idea but i didnt do anything beyond what i described... oh i did install the .net frameworks2.0  I know it isnt hardware realted because it was working 2 days ago.

This is exactly the errors in getting.  If it helps, i read in other posts that ejecting the game from the drive tools tab and loading it fixes it, but I dont even get that option, it stays grey.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks again smile.gif

I can extract the iso but I haven't got around to builing them yet, soon hopefully.  Then I need to make a few mods to allow the different media types.  Currently only DVD+R DL is allowed and I need to change all the code related to that.

Gotcha, thanks for the great tool by the way.. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) and thanks for the quick reply..

Hi Redline!

Thank you for an amazing product. I want to pick your brain about this though. I made one sucessfull backup and it was of Chrome Hounds. Next I tried 2 other titles, and have had no luck. It always extracts perfectly with my SHD162C, but now when I try to write any of the 2 other titles I get this error in the log.

So to put some closure (maybe) on my issue; I moved the SH-D162C off of the Rosewill RC212 ATA port; and moved it onto one of the regular IDE ports on my system board... and it's working now.

This Rosewill card works; I've used it to 'bad flash' a handful of XBOX360 drives, not sure what the dealio is with the feature list reporting wrong when an IDE drive is connected up to it. The only 'odd' thing, was that it was showing up as being connected to a SCSI host, rather than IDE... which I'm guessing is a side effect of the card being SATA / PATA.

Good! That is a real common solution.  The SH-D162C is very picky about the configuration.

braddman - I'll have a new version that can use nero and Imgburn directly from my app. It may help.  Or you can just use imgburn using one of the tutorials

Like go to the device manager screen, then what? IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, then to which one? the one i have it setup under is VIA bus master IDE controller and there is no option in there to mess with the dma/pio options unless im supposed to be somehwere else.  The primary and secondary ide options above the xbox dvd drive are both set to dma if available. thanks again

Update: I went out and picked up a new external LG GSA-E10 L. I tried burning twice with Backup Creator 2.3 and both times it failed about 15 percent in with APPLICATION ERROR. Ruined yet another 2 discs (thats 5 total I've trashed.)

Next I tried Imgburn with my new LG drive and it worked perfectly, and this is on the cheapest media I could find at Fry's Electronics. So far I've burned 2 discs with no errors on the LG. Now I need some new blanks because I ruined so many.

the SH-D162C defaults to the wxRipper style partiton unlocking.  My app sometimes will not reset it to the Xtreme style. (Has been fixed in a new build) Try ejecting the disk, closing the app. Put the disk in then open the app. Then do the complete backup.

Post by: PuckX on January 04, 2007, 10:10:00 AM
I have been hunting around these forums as well as xboxhacker and have been unable to find an answer. Has anyone got this app to work under Vista yet? Redline mentions it hasn't been tested under Vista, but I see nothing stating it doesn't or does work. I know I am having issues with the MSCOMCTL.OCX error message, even after I register the file. So I am guessing it doesn't work, but if someone does have it working please share how you got it to work.

Thanks!

I have gotten it to work in Vista (well... in a vm of Vista). It didn't work right out of the box though. I dont remember what I had to do. Of course you need all the dll's and ocx's there and registered.  Use the v2.3 and install using the setup package will help the process.  I think there was also something like you had to do "Run as Administrator" or something. I don't remember exactly, it's been a long time.

Hey Redline just wanted to say thanks! Your tip led me to the solution. While trying "Run As Administrator" didn't work for me, it made me attempt running it while logged in as local administrator, and it came right up! Then I logged back in as my profile, and it came right up! So Vista and its lovely locking local admins out of certain procedures unless you are THE local admin seems to have struck again.

Thanks again for all your help!

I'm trying to backup one of my xbox1 games with my PC samsung drive and can't seem to get it to run.....

What do I need to do backup the xbox1 game with XBC 2.3 and burn it to a DL disc?

For xbox 1 game if you have an SH-D162C (make sure it is Kreon 0.81) or a samsung X360 Drive.
with xbox creator do Start and Burn on DL.
If you set the layer break manually when you burn, it must be 1913776 (increased by 16).
if you use xbcreator to burn or the .dvd file with imgburn it is all taken care of for you.
Done

If you are like me a proud owner of a Hitachi drive  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)  and do not have a SH-D162C, well it gets worst here.
For xbox 1 you cannot use wxripper (only for x360) due to a different offset for xbox 1!!!
You are then left for xbox 1 with using isobuster with hotswap which is not an easy method.
Google 'Xbox 1 Backups On The Xbox 360'. after this you might consider getting a sh-d162c  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) .
Discussion on wxripper and isobuster should be continued in the backup forum as it is not XBcreator related.

In the backup forum, we had several situations like this in the last two weeks.
Often, people that backup other games before and after with no problems!!

If it were a x360 drive, I would be tempted to say pot calibration time, but maybe a bit to early and not sure if feasible on the sh-D162C.

But could some try the extraction at a slower speed ( I believe the default is 10 or 12x):
Option / choose drive specific /Sh-D162C + xbox360 + set speed=4x (or try different speed).

Guys-

An FYI, do NOT use Memorex media. I have burned 3 coasters so far even though they say they were sucessful. Verbatim works every single time without error. When you try to use Memorex, the Xbox doesn't even see the disc.

Memorex works for me most of the time... but sometimes they have real bad media errors when the burner switches layers.  Usually for me though if I get past the layerbreak then they work pretty good. Verbs are probably a safer bet.

I tried all of sosotiit's suggstions....trying to get the SH-D162C to read the disk.  But no matter what I tried, I'd get those bad sector errors at around 49.40%

So tonight I tried the TS-H943A.  Things started good as usual, disk was reading at around 3,000 kB/s up until the 49% mark.  Then the rip dropped to crawling speed at 60 kB/s and I was just waiting for the errors.....but they never came.  It took about 10 minutes to read the disk from the 49% mark to the 51% mark.  Then the speed shot back up to normal 3,000 kB/s and it ripped the rest fine.  ??????

I do have the latest Kreon firmware on the SH-D162C.  Has there been other reports of the TS-H943A drive reading better than the SD-D162C?  This disk is not in bad condition.  There's a few minor scratches, but nothing that should keep it from ripping.  Anyway, just thought I should let you guys know how things turned out.

Spe411 a huge thanks for you help in this, it confirms many things for me.

Many of the problems we sometimes have a difficulty to diagnose may come from some DVD being marginal.

We also have to be realistic that the SH-D162C is a drive adapted for the situation, it is not a true X360 Drive.
There are SH-D162C unit that will be more or less performant like there are X360 drive that requires pot recalibration!!!

Anyway, an extract from a previous post I made tonight on problems extracting SS or the game partition with the SH-D162C (which we must realize are very few):

QUOTE
Hope it helps for you,
In fact there are no clear causes that would allow us to say "this is cause to this behavior and to solve it do that". All the above are contributing factors which once cleared will maximize your chances of success.

There seems to be isolated cases with the SH-D162C (with Kreon 0.81) that will not work for the ss.bin or the game.iso. Often these would happen to people that have successfully made backups of many of their games before and that using the same setup!!! while other people with the same tools and hardware would easily do the backup of the same game. Very few of these, but they happen.

It seems to have little to do with XBCreator since extraction using other softwares would generally not work either.

If it really does not work you are left with opening you x360 to do the following:
Samsung owner: connect your X360 drive to your PC and use Xbcreator (or other method) for that game.
Hitachi owner having problem extracting the SS: connect your X360 drive to your PC and use Xbcreator (or other method) for the SS; Use xbcreator with your sh-D162C to extract the rest and merge (xbcreator or ssmerger)
Hitachi owner having a problem extracting game.iso: Use wxripper method with a PC drive for the game.iso; then use your SH-D162C to extract the SS and merge (ssmerger).

and you have a backup (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

huge thks to everyone, and rgds, soso

OK that worked, but the backup did not. I was trying to backup Forza Motorsports (Xbox 1). When I tried it without sector mapper, it would say READ ERROR and ask me if I wanted to zero fill the sectors. Instead of doing this, I used SECTOR MAPPER and it made the ISO fine. I burned with IMGBURN to a memorex DL and now after the intro screen I get an error that says "THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE DISC-IT MAY BE DAMAGED OR DIRTY".

Did I make this backup correctly?

Propably bad media... I had the same problem when I burned a game. It was stacking and throw the dirty error message. I checked for readability on pc and I found out that it couldn't read some sectors. I tried a second time the exact same brand with the same iso and worked like charm. I also checked it for readability and no problems found. From then all my backups are written with imgBurn (highly recommend it) and are verified the same time for readability.

OK so let me get this straight. To backup XBOX1, just use XBC, check USE SECTOR MAPPER, then burn with IMGBURN? Are all those read errors normal when you don't have USE SECTOR MAPPER checked?

With IMGBURN do I leave the layer break set the same for Xbox 1 games when I burn??

That's basically what I did except I used Memorex media, which I've had issues with before. I didn't wanna use my expensive Verbatims for this test with XBOX 1 backups.

Yes. For XBOX1 games the Layer Break must be 1913776.
For XBOX360 games the Layer Break must be 1913760.
If you use imgBurn you must set the appropriate Layer Break at Options -> Write.
If you enter them wrong then the backup won't work for sure.

As for the sector mapper I can't help you with that because I have never tried to rip an XBOX1 game and I don't know how it works. But if you write a backup and then you cant verify it at imgBurn (highly recommend it every time you burn a game) then the backup won't work the most of the times.

Basically its better to use quality brands to be sure that your backup wont be a coaster...

Put of the 25 Memorex media I bought, I've had 3 failures. The top 2 on the spindle failed immediately. The 3rd failure was an attempt to "copy on the fly" a backup with CloneCD. That didn't work either, but just letting it rip the image then burning it works every time.

Since those top 2 failures the rest of them have worked fine.

konartist911 - It should work with external hardware.

rs21519 - The problem here is that I have never seen a Hitachi firmware that unlocks the game partition correctly.  I know of a simple firmware patch that will always unlock the game partition but then you loose the video and the firmware will not work back in the xbox that way. That method is not recommended unless you know what you are doing.

here is a summary of the options. As per redline the method requiring constant flshing in your drive is a bit more risky, I would rather use the other options.

I had the "Invalid Security Sector" problem too, but now it is fixed. I'm using a the Samsung SH-D162C with Kreon v0.81. What follows below is my problem solving process leading to the solution.

I tried the latest Xbox Backup Creator (XBBC) to read a game in one of my computers and it worked a treat. It was the only device on that IDE controller (using SATA HDDs). It was jumpered as master and set to Primary Master, using a 40pin ATA cable restricting it to UDMA33 operation. This configuration worked successfully, and the game was later burned and thoroughly tested. No errors in XBBC or during gaming.

Now, I tried moving the drive to a more permanent setup in my main PC. It was configured as Secondary Master on a 80pin ATA cable allowing UDMA66 operation. This machine has 4 optical drives (hey! each one has their special area that they are superior in). I tried ripping the same game that worked before with the same XBBC, and to my dismay I was served up with the same Invalid Security Sector error.

These computers use IDENTICAL motherboards, so at this stage, I'm thinking it's a software issue, or a hardware issue in that the drive does not like being on the secondary IDE channel, or it does not like having a slave on the same channel. I assumed it woud not matter whether the drive was on a 80 wire or 40 wire IDE cable, otherwise we'd see many more posts on the issue (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I set out to test my theory - I removed all other optical drives and set the Samsung to Primary master. Having the same motherboard as the previous PC and nothing else on the IDE controller (this machine also uses SATA), I was confident that it would either work, or if not, it would prove that it's definitely a software issue (my main PC has more crap on it than my HTPC as it would).

And so be it, the same problem - I now know it's a software issue and was willing to try a fresh install of Windows (I need an excuse to do this, it's really old and messy (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)). However, I decided to have a look at my software configuration...

Going through all the crap on my computer, I picked out a few things that may interfer with optical drive operation (I always got warnings in DVD decrypter, but everything still worked perfectly). The software I singled out is as follows:

Blindwrite and it's Pattin Couffin driver.
Daemon Tools.
Nero Burning ROM.
Alcohol 120%.
DVD Region Free.

Now the previous PC that the drive worked in also had Nero and Daemon Tools so I decided to leave them alone. My suspicious moved to Blindwrite and it's Pattin Couffin (VSO??) driver. I removed this and tried XBBC, no luck. I then decided to disable DVD Region Free for ALL drives, no luck.

Then I moved on to Alcohol 120%. I saw that it has a virtual drive appearing in "My Computer." I fired up the software and disabled the drive, then proceeded to uninstall it (disabling first avoids a restart)...

So I had exhausted all the usual suspects. Fired up XBBC, partly hoping it would work, partly opening it wouldn't (I said I needed an excuse to format (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)). Low and behold, SUCCESS!

Hope this helps someone out there. I tried the simple restart that was suggested previously but it didn't work for me. Try disabling Alcohol 120%'s virtual drives, then restart. If it still doesn't work, uninstall 120% and restart. Any further problems, you could try an isolation test (set it as only device on controller, jumpered as master on the primary channel (no cable select), but I doubt this has anything to do with it.

Cheers, and thanks Redline99 and kreon. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) It truly amazes me how versatile a PC can be.

Hi redline, the only things i have running are

ZONE ALARM PRO
COMMAND ANTI VIRUS
SPYWARE DOCTOR

I have deamon tools, but i only run it when needed, does it matter if its even installed?

I have also tried shutting down all the other progs, but it will just not get past the SS part.

Im really confused???

Ok i got it to work, ripped 4 of my discs.

I have to open and close the tray, and keep going to drive tools, and selecting SS.bin, as soon as there is no error given, i can go ahead and rip the disc.

Takes 3-4 times though, is this a known bug?

Still now its working, im well chuffed. Who do i donate to?

Roden - Interesting, I have never heard of that particular fix.  In the current public release it does have a small bug with kreon's drives that will sometimes not reset the drive to xtreme mode and keep in wxripper mode (which is not supported)

overstockva - good to hear!

Yeah once its working takes about 15 mins to read 7.5gb, which i think is pretty good, just a little hassle to get it running, still, it works and thats all that matters, and i can only asume new versions will just get better and better.

Thankyou very much for an excellent app, nuff respect.

anything changed recently? or since the time it was working?

On the size that is exaclty their respective size, so all OK.

On the missing 'mscomctl.ocx' , have you tried running the installer in the package (I believe it says xboxbackupcreatorV2.3.exe). Also since it is vista, there are a few post earlier in this thread on that , Hope it helps you

At this point you can do Single layer only for xbox1 game and if you have a Samsung X360 drive.
if you are interested you can look at this post on Single Layer with FW 5.2 , the   release post of FW 5.2 and the release post of XBEFIX.

discussion on that subject is focused there at this time.
hope it helps

Hi Redline hope you can help

I have successfully flashed my MS25 with xtreme 5.2c F/W and have come to try some backups. The drive is being detected in windows ok.

I'm using Xbox Backup Creator to read an original 360 game and keep getting this error:

'unable to determine the current visible partition'

Upon ok of this msg, it then just says 'read failed'

Also in the info pane at the bottom of the app, the bytes used is being reported in TB (4,398,046,511,104 bytes), not GB. All other posts I have read refer to this figure being in GB - is this part of my problem or just a bug?

So far I have tried backing up my originals of Tomb Raider Legend and GRAW to no avail.

Please do you have any suggestions as to what the problem is here?
Any help much appreciated. smile.gif

I'm getting the same 'unable to determine the current visible partition' error when trying to backup Gears of War. Bytes used is shown as 4.00 TB.

I have nero installed, img burn, dvd shrink, dvd decrypter, dvdfab decrypter, xbc, xtreme boot maker. Redline99, please help.

Update I installed all the programs, restarted, ran xbc and still got the same error message. Does Gears of War need a special backup method?

Yes I just updated to the latest VIA driver. Version - 5.40A to be exact, got it from here. I had to update because Windows wouldn't boot with the driver that came with my retail VT6421A raid card.

hmmm... the new VIA drivers seem to becoming more of an issue for people and my app. I'm not too sure as to why, the command to read the disk capacity is pretty straight forward.  MMC op-code 0x25 is the specific command I'm using.

ok so you think is a driver issue? Do you know a specific version that definitely works? maybe I can just roll back to an earlier version.  Anyone else has advice?

UPDATE: I turned out to be the VIA VT6421 driver that was causing all these problems. I rolled back from version 5.40A to 5.20A (downloaded from http://www.viaarena.com/Driver/VIA_RAID_V520A.zip) and was able to backup GoW using XBC.

Redline99, Thanks for pointing out the driver issue.

I have read somewhere that the read/write needs to be done at 1x or 2x.

Is everyone doing this or are you leaving it at the default max speed with no problems? I have only done my two games. I can't remember if I ripped GOW at the max speed or not. I was playing and got a disk error. Thinking i may have written it too fast, I burned the ISO still on my PC at a slower speed. While playing multiplayer, it got the error again. I am going to try to re-rip it today at a slower speed to see if that is the difference.

Hi 1hotjob,

You may want to look at this post. These situations are not common and most original read good left at default speed (which i am pretty sure with XBCr is not necessarily Max). I tried for fun various speed always with the same good results when the disk is in good condition.
If you extract blocks that are not good, you will get a message that there is a read error. Maybe redline will confirm, but would see no reason it does not use some kind of extensive CRC on blocks of data.

Since the game starts the image structure and ss must be good, might be a media issue? are you using verbatim? Note you can also validate your image against the burn here.

hope it helps,
have a good one,
soso

The app has no way of telling if what the drive gives it is correct or not.  If the drive gives the status of a good read then it is assumed that it was good.  On a xbox360 rip you should never encounter any read errors under normal situations.  The recommended read speed is 12x.

For burning the recommended write speed is the rated speed of the media, usually 2.4x.

thanks for the feedback,

just want to be sure I get it OK smile.gif, if the DVD is not able to reconcile the CRC (and error corrction code) of a block (or sector?? not sure how small it is extracted) it will tell your app it cannot extract it properly and you will know of the error. But what you are saying is that  you have no way of double checking if that error (or lack of) is really there and must thrust what the drive tells you. Just to be sure.

thks, soso

Nice one D70. I've used the drivers you recommended (v.5.2a) and I am now able to perform backups.

I will also confirm the 5.2a drivers.  They are the latest drivers you want.  5.3 and 5.4 throws off this program, and possibly others as well.  It was not allowing me to read from the disc until I manually unlocked the drive, after which I could not read the video partition.  Once I installed the 5.2a drivers, it works perfectly.  You may want to put that in the readme, redline.

@headonism
Very possible, it seems many of the new games have that,

If that is the probblem then there is a thread on how to backup Star Trek Legacy and other games with the newer Video partition.

This is a temporary situation, as redline mentionned in this thread he is working on a solution.

I've been having the same problem all day. I also have a Samsung SH-D162C. I tried using Schtrom 3.1 and got nothing. Then i tried XBC v2.3 and was able to get an iso, 6.80 GB. I did this by going to the Drive Tools tab and unlocking the drive (The program says that the drive is already unlocked). But when i look at the "bytes used" info it changed from 5.32MB to 6.81GB. Then I went into the READ tab and selected current partition. Clicked start and was able to get an image.

Questions:
1. Is this image patched? (SS, PFI, DMI, video.iso?)
2. How can i get all these files?
3. What should i use to inject the image to make it 7.05GB?

Please help thanks.

It seems you have the game.iso only.
The only other one you absolutely need is the SS, and you can extract it with Xbox creator in the drive tools. you can get DMI and PFI as well at the same place if you want (not mandatory).
WIth SS merger you select the two files (or four), choose pad with blanks, do not select NME compatible and then do merge, and burn. (as per message above you can also use the Isobuilder that can with the firmware package).

it is one of the two methods, press unlock twice in XBCr (Drive tools tab),
then back to Read tab to do start, you will get the Game partition.
Then extract separately SS, DMI, PFI in drivetools and merge in ssmerger.

WinXP Pro
Samsung SHD163A flashed with Kreon

I've backed up a ton of games already, but I can't seem to back this one up. I get to around 42% and then it says read failed and asks if I want to fill it with zeros... I hit retry but it keeps failing, so i hit fill with zeros and it keeps popping up... does this mean my original disk is bad?

My money is on disc is scratched or dirty. I had one other day, scratches on it were next to nothing, but still got errors until I threw some compound on it and spun a buffer over it until it was shiny as hell, and copied fine after that.

Just encountered a problem using XBC to back up more than one original disc - upon trying to read the second disc I get:

"Unable to determine the current visible partition" and then "Read Failed" in warning boxes.

I'm using an SH-D162C with Kreon's latest firmware.

Any ideas?
Thanks.

okay. i haven't tried using my dvd burner for dvds since i've installed xb backup creator. i just tried today and am getting major errors. it won't let me burn a dvd. xb backups work just fine, but using dvd shrink isn't working for dvds.

I think I've narrowed it down to what the error is, but not sure what it means, or what I can do to repair the damage. This is from the nero log:

8:41:09 PM   #28 SPTI -1176 File SCSIPassThrough.cpp, Line 290

I'm guessing its an issue with xb backup creator or something i installed some sort of driver or file needed to run xb backup creator. I very well could be wrong though too. Any suggestions...? I've tried un installing my aspi using forceaspi and re installing it without any luck. same error.

Hey, thanks for the reply. I'm sure its not media... I've done some further reading on the topic...

I'm sure its not a problem with xb backup creator, i guess I just figured someone else here would have had the same problem i am. I read into it and it seems that on many burners, sometimes when you burn DL discs, then go back to burning single layer discs, the burner gets sort of 'stuck' in DL mode. I'm not sure what I'm going to do next, maybe uninstall nero and re-install, but we'll see. if anyone has any suggestions, let me know. thanks.

I am slowly going insane! Im am running Vista Ultimate (The Full Version) and I recently purchased a Samsung SH-D162C Drive to backup some of my 360 games. I have had absolutely no luck with Xbox Backup Creator v2.3 nor Schtrom360 3.0 or 3.1 nor the latest IsoBuster. The drive seems to properly recognize the original 360 games very rarely and when they are recognised they still don't extract. The Drive is set up as the only IDE drive in the system as the Master 1. Most of the XBC logs are as follows:

Is this a problem with:

a ) Vista? (I've heard it hasn't really been tested)
b ) The samsung firmware? (I bought the drive already flashed with the Kreon 0.81 firmware)
c ) My missing the knownledge to operate the program?!?
d ) Dirty disks? (Ive heard this can create problems, but ive tried almost 9 seperate games, one of which is new and doesnt have 1 scratch)

I'm at a complete loss...

I also tried creating an XP PRO SP2 guest Virtual Machine using VMware in Vista and tried both XBC and Schrom and had some problem with DMA.

I can read and copy any cd's perfectly and DVD5's. Tested it with a few DVD9 movies that didn't read.

If it is a defective drive will reflashing it potentially help?

Or should i just get angry at the guy who sold it to me?

I was wondering if this program, combined with the Kreon drive, can be used as an alternative method to create Xbox 360 compatible Xbox 1 backups. I'm not too fond of the hot swapping tutorial tongue.gif.

Be fair, you do not mention your pc spontaneously restart during burn imgburn.

I bought myself a SH-D162C and flashed it with Kreon 0.81. Now I try to Backup the whole Game. But after clicking on "Start" it comes up with an error message, saying

okay. I'm not sure what changes this PC has had, but i cannot seem to get this benq dw1655 to burn anything. I thought it was just regular dvd5 discs, but now I tried to burn a backup using a verbatim DL disc, and cannot seem to get a successful burn. If someone can help me assess this error I'd be delighted.

This is the error I get from XB Backup Creator:

Action: Reserve Track
Sense Error: 5/26/00
Invalid Field In Parameter List
CDB: Reserve Track
0x52 00 00 00 00 00 38 6C 1F 00

Not sure what it means. If you want another log, tell me where to find it and i'll get it and post it.

Thanks.

Dustin

Hi,  I've gone right over this thread and can't seem to find a guide to how to run this on Vista.

I've got Vista Home Premium and it installs but wont run. Someone mentioned that you have to be logged in as "THE LOCAL ADMIN" to install.  But I cant seem to figure out how to do that. Googled it and tried as suggested but it doesn't work.  Could someone please go over instruction on how to do this and install on Vista Home Premium.

Cheers

Shane

Quick Question. Can you use a PC DVD drive to read the games? I have a pioneer 111 burner but when i run the program is doesn't highlight the option to start the backup. Also, i'm running vista ultimate rc-2. not sure if that poses a problem. The program runsand recognizes the disc, just no start option.
