Title: Can't Connect Xbox 360 To Pc

I ran the WMC 2.0 installation for XP SP2 and it would not authorize my XBox--the program gets installed but the XBox does not appear in the list of devices. In addition, when I run "Test Media Connection" in XBox it passes Network Adapter and IP address tests but fails at PC selected. I can connect to XBox Live but not to my PC. When I try to ping the IP address of the XBox I get a "request timed out".

I'm using a Linksys BEFSR41 v.4. I've done the troubleshooting steps outlined in MS support article 911738 and verified that all is at it should be according to this article. As far as I can tell I've opened the required ports in my firewall 2869, 1900, 10280-10284, and 10243 but I'm not certain I did this correctly. I'm using McAfee. However, if I disable the firewall I still can't connect to my pc. I also can't connect if I use Windows firewall with the required ports opened.

Linksys support says I don't need to make any special configuration changes to my router in order to connect to the pc. But, one of the support techs told me to lower the MTU on the router to 1200.  Now I don't know much about networking but it seemed to me that lowering the MTU couldn't possibly do anygood since XBox Live requires a minimum of 1364 and I didn't see how the MTU setting could have anything to do with not being able to connect to a pc. So my confidence in Linksys support is questionable.

XBox support went through the same diagnosis in article 911738 so they were not much help either. In fact, one tech told me to assign the same IP address to my XBox and computer. This not only prevented me from connecting to XBox Live but I also could not connect to the internet. Needless to say my confidence in XBox support is also questionable.

Any thoughts on how to resolve this issue?

I'm having the exact same issue, with the same hardware setup. I have the same model router.

the program must be up and running on your pc and your firewall cant be blocking the xboxs ip.
