*sigh* yet another piece of software that doesn't serve a purpose, at least not yet anyways. I think they're just trying to torture us.

How does this not serve a purpose ??

If your not a noob you can follow the tutorials up on any of the sites out there .

This does not seem to have a purpose because this seems to do just the same as any other 'patcher, like ppf-o-matic.

So unless I am very much mistaken this is just a tool like ppf-o-matic where the only difference is that this is specifically meant for firmwares.

ppf-o-matic can do the same.

Or maybe someone can correct me?

Wait a second. Am I correct in saying you must first extract your DVD drive key.

This would mean that, whenever the firmware is released - you will need to get the key (which you can already do with other programs), then patch the patch!

Is that right?

EDIT: Woops, you will obviously patch the firmware and then write your DVD key after.

It does serve a purpose but one that we already have hundrets of programs for. Its like making another notepad: interesting for the coder but chances that somebody really needs it are slim.

Erm, correct me if Im mistaken - but this is the first program to be able to patch a firmware.

The rest are just DVD key tools.

Let's see, patch tools you could use to patch a firmware:
-PPF
-APE
-over 60 more at http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Best/patch-engine.html

By the way, some of these tools could easily patch the drive key as well if you customize (for example) the PPF you download.

And what's wrong with a generic ppf/diff tool? Is this really needed?

Oh sorry, point taken  pop.gif.

What we really need is a flasher and the actual firmware!!!

Is someone will release only patch (not all hacked firmware), this is too illegal?

Anyway, this is sweet app smile.gif

We can't use PPF because we want make an All-In-One software. We have a very good patcher now, and the code is our, so we can integrate it with KDX. This is the reason.

By the way, the patch isnt't illegal wink.gif

I thought the ApplyPPF and MakePPF source code was avaiable. Don't get me wrong, I applaud every coder who wants to help out the community. I just don't think one should reinvent the wheel.
Anyways, what we really need it the actualy patch. IMHO its not necessary that every newbie can try this on the first day. We'd see far too many bricked drives and people who lost their drive key.

correct me if I'm wrong, the patch by itself is legal, since it only contains the diff...you get the patch file, and apply it to your FW and that is it.

if you are going to use a real hacked FW (illegal), then you need to extract your key from your original FW, and apply it to the hacked FW....

am i right or wrong??

@tyuon: The patcher is the 'car' for the 360.

We got the 'wheels' (Key extractor/reader/patcher) a while back so we can all drive on our certified roads, Now we got the 'car' - only thing left to get is the 'key' (the firmware patch)

my point was what good is this software without a patch? A patcher without a patch serves no purpose. We have all this software that really doesn't really do anything useful, at least not til we get a patch/firmware. that was my point. and no, I'm not a noob, I just don't feel like nor have the time to go searching through the firmware and removing all static references and then adding in all the code to refer to the moved security sector and so on and so forth. By the time I do that, someone else will have already released a patch/firmware, and all those hours of my life would've been wasted. my time's better spent on something like the psp, which apparently no one cares about anymore because there haven't been any new developments in over 6 months.

Yes i understand what your saying, but remember these guys who are working all the time on patches, hacks etc if it were me ( and i wish i was clever as they were) I would'nt want to rush anything out yet unless i was 100% sure it would'nt fcuk you box up!     So i guesss we all wait, and yes i hate waiting lol .

Nothing wrong with being new to the scene but some people here just utter too much nonsense.

And stop the car comparisons please, it just confuses people. The key extractor and the patcher are NOTHING. We have nothing. Well we do have a Xbox1 Firmware and that's a very good start but don't let all those new tools confuse you.

Those tools are written by people who have no clue (I assume) about firmware hacking. They do the same as all the generic patch tools we've had for YEARS. They are NO achievement for the "real" hacking scene. That doesn't mean they are useless, it just means that they don't get us even an inch closer to backups or homebrew on 360.

Just wait until the actual firmware (or patching instructions for it) is released. Everything else is just candy that makes it easier for noobs. Again, that doesn't make it useless, just useless to an advanced user or anybody who can read. Because anybody who can read should be able to figure out how to hex edit a drive key into a BIN file and how to apply a PPF patch. No magic tools needed for that.

I'd imagine it would make it easier for everyone, not just "noobs" as you put it. wink.gif

No. It makes it different, not easier. Applying a PPF is really easy, so is hex editing a couple of bytes. I don't need to use a new tool just because it has "Xbox" in its name.
Anyways, it hurts nobody. I just wanted to clarify that this isn't getting us any closer to our goals.

Ignorance is running amuck in this thread.

OBVIOUSLY, none of these x360 tools have a practical use for the vast majority of us right now. There are, however, a select few hackers out their with the firmware hack who can use these tools to simplify things a bit (if they want).

Anyone who has been paying attention can see that the experienced hackers are working on tools to make this mod reasonable for the average modder. They aren't "releasing" these tools for us to use at this point. They understand there is nothing we can do with them. They are releasing these tools so that you can see PROGRESS is being made wink.gif

And about this patching tool. Who is to say that sources from other tools WEREN'T used? Can't you people see where this is going? This is the first release of a tool that will eventually be a "1-stop-shop" for everything involved with the dvd drive firmware! Who WOULDN'T want such a tool? Whining about the fact that you don't have the hack yet is pointless... We are all pretty much on that boat.

There is no need to say negative things about tools being developed just because the actual hack isn't out yet. After all, what good would the hack do for most of us if there weren't these tools? Who honestly wants to start hex-editing their dvd firmware and flashing it blindly hoping they got it right, etc? Just be patient and applaud the people actually spending their time trying to help us out! These tools will improve, become stable, and when we are ready for it, the hack will come out beerchug.gif

Couple questions…

Questions one: people keep talking about building a power connector for the 360 DVD drive.  Today I left the DVD drive in the 360 and ran a SATA cable from my PC to the DVD drive.  I turned on the 360 giving power to the DVD drive and then powered on my PC that was attached to the DVD with a SATA.  The BIOS in my PC saw the xbox DVD drive with no problem.  So the question is, do we still need the fancy power adaptor or is the way I did it perfectly fine???  (note: windows didn’t see the DVD drive at all even though the BIOS did).

Question two: from everything I have read there is still no way to download the firmware (or upload it for that matter) from the DVD drive via Windows or any other OS.  Correct???

Thanks for helping me understand where things are…

Answer 1: Connecting the drive to pc is possible (like you did) but the chance exists that you brick the drive, your 360 or your pc (problems with ground...)

Answer 2: You can get the firmware that is on the drive... Read around, you'll find the method somewhere in here biggrin.gif

Running the power from your 360 is a bad idea. If you do, make sure you use some clips to make everything is grounded properly... In addition, the adapter is just conveinent, safe, and fun to build  happy.gif

You can use "mktflash", or something like that, off of a DOS boot disk to read/write to your flash (from what I have ready). I am waiting for all the bugs to get worked out before I even bother voiding my warranty, but I am still reading and staying on top of it waiting to pounce  laugh.gif

Realizing that not using a power adapter is not the best way, are you saying make sure your PC is grounded to the chassis of the XBOX 360 to acomplish a true ground between the 2 units?
