Transcode 360 v1.0 Beta 3-- Posted by XanTium on April 15 19:16 EST
Runtime released a new version of Transcode 360(info):

Quote

I'm happy to announce the release of Transcode 360 Beta 3, the newest version of the XviD / DivX playback solution for Xbox 360 and Media Center Extender devices on Windows Media Center 2005. Once more this beta release is provided in advance of the final release to encourage community feedback and to help us better understand the areas we need to focus on.

New in this release:
After a lot of painstaking testing we believe we've addressed the aspect ratio issues that affected Beta 2, and for the most part AV sync, playback choppiness and a couple of issues that should make for easier installation (notably MPEG2 codec co-existance). Additionally, Beta 3 also features support for subtitles.
To enable the optimum transcoding solution T360 now supports multiple transcoding engines: ffmpeg, mencoder and Windows Media Encoder plug-ins are provided. As I mentioned in my previous post, mencoder has been selected as the best candidate for our solution as it offers us lots of flexibility supporting a staggering 299 codecs. It is this then that we will be primarily focused on supporting.

If you have a little programming experience you're welcome to create your own custom plug-in wrappers, or contribute to the project by improving on what we have. Full C# source code for the majority of the plug-ins is included as part of the distribution.

I'll be taking it a bit easy now at least for the rest of the holiday. That said, I'll pop into the forums over the next couple of days to provide answers to some of the frequently asked questions. The plan over the short term is to update the online documentation as its beginning to look a bit dated.

Finally I would like to thank my team of testers who've been working with me to iron out the bugs, as well as you the community for your support and generous donations. Many thanks! Happy downloading!

I am also having the "queue file and stream" problem.  This program is much appreciated though.  Lookin forward to a working beta 3.

What's the big deal with people streaming with their pc's? The 360 isn't doing any of the real processing. It's like buying a cake from the store and saying you made it yourself! PHONEY!

well if there was a way to transfer video to the 360's harddrive i'd much rather do that  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif).
i can't stand watching video on my computer monitor

1. How do I get 5.1 surround sound?

2. How can I make the subtitles bigger?

3. How can I make the resolution higher?

If it's possible to do these three things this is best program ever!

i understand what your saying, having to have to have another system actually doing the processing takes resources making the 360 a mere extension cord, but this prgram has did what the mircrosoft couldnt, and for not having your xbox modded this program is a dam savior.

much appreciation to runtime 360 for making this, its been very helpfull and the quality is kickass, as it keeps the rez of the file intaced.

My human worth? You actually have a scale of human worth based on the content of their posts?
Wasn't my intent to feel "better" about myself.. Just bringing up a point. May have ben a bit harsh, but yes I do understand what it's used for. I was referring to the people who think their xbox is actually doing all the processing. I'll stick to my XBMC  for all my video needs.. WAY more convenient for my tastes.

We all know xbmc is better okay, my point was why are you posting this here instead of a new thread.  Nobody said anything here about the 360 itself doing anything. This is for people with problems with this program.  Nobody cares about your opinion on something noone here was discussing in the first place.

Some of the problems you might have regarding the queuing might be related to the "WmeBroadcastTranscoder" folder in the Wrappers folder.  Just delete it or move it somewhere else and then restart the transcode service.  This is a known issue and should be resolved fairly soon.

Hope this will help some of you guys!

There is still one big problem.

the transcoding still continues in the computer even after pressing stop on the 360.

still uses a lot more CPU and ram than VLC360

T360 Beta3 - CPU 65% , only leaves 58MB of Ram free

VLC360 - CPU 21% , only leaves 97MB of Ram free

Transcode360 still needs a lot of fixes.

Works like a charm mate!

All users make sure your firewall settings are configed for the folder as my antispyware blocked it without me knowing.....

Now it works sweet

Thanks runtime!

Now....any chance you can create some drivers for the winfast tv tuner card so i can use it on mce??????????

HEHEHEHEHE

Yea same here. Good work on the progress, but my system is still struggling with Transcode360 while VLC360 is a smooth ride.

I've got a problem which i think happened after updating transcode to beta 3,

When i log into mce from my xbox 360 and goto My Videos folder it says Media cannot play videos from a remote desktop (or similar) tried all the usual renewed the setup between 360 and xp mce, checked sharing rights.

Anyone heard of this before and a fix please

pffft, Whatever....post count means nothing and you know it, get over yourself.  You still use words like noob. Shows what kind of exhaulted master I'm talking to.  I'm taking up no more of this threads space wasting my time defending myself against people like you.

The people that help out around here actually solved my problem.  I now got beta3 working using helpful advice on this thread.

All those associated with Transcode 360.....YOU ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

To all those that help out others.....YOU ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

To those that bitch about peoples efforts to help the community....please go find something in the real world to do. You have way to much free time.

Hey.. I got nothing against the transcode project. I do however, take exeption to little tools such as yourself. I brought up the point of the 360 not doing any actual processing. Big deal. You will need to keep defending yourself if you keep acting like a little bitch. Ok.. let's play "lets see who can kiss the most ass on this thread to garner support for my arguement" Go ahead.. make it your "virtuous mission to silence the nay-sayer" It'll be fun. I think you did not installed T360 the right way.  During the install it ask about configuring the Transcoding and Broadcast service. Make sure you select the second option "Run service under dedicated...".

All should be good!

I am ready to bet that overall the CPU utilization is equal or less than VLC.  OK, I will concede that while transcoding T360 will suck as much CPU cycles as possible but it will complete the transcoding at aroung 2 to 3 times faster than the actual video length... this is why we call it faster than real time.

By the way, VLC360 uses WMV8 codec... which is really not the best for picture quality.  T360 uses high bit rate MPEG2 and has a really good PQ.

Thanks for the great app (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Anyways, I was wondering if it was possible to transcode mpeg videos encoded using h264 or x264?

Once again Thanks  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

No , VLC360 uses less CPU and does the same job that T360 does , i see the same image quality from both.
But T360 just sucks all the power from my Hyper-Threaded 3Ghz CPU

Dude T360 sucks all available idle CPU power to transcode the file, freeing up your PC to do whatever you want ASAP, all other solutions (including the early T360 Beta 1) only transcode as much as required to display the next couple of frames - but since they (including VLC) all use WMV the CPU isn't being used efficiently, thats the difference with T360 Beta 2 and later (which use less expensive encoding and do it real fast i.e. not wasting idle CPU cycles).

Case in point: my Athlon 64, transcodes a 700MB file in 10 mins, I can start watching as soon as the process starts, in the meantime if I want to use the PC for something else no problem as T360 uses idle cycles.  Ten minutes later the process ends and my PC can idle or whatever.  With VLC you get the same consistent CPU utilization for the entire duration of video playback.

Bottomline: theres no way WMV encoding (e.g. VLC360) is cheaper on CPU cycles than MPEG2 encoding (T360 Beta 2+).

> the transcoding still continues in the computer even after pressing stop on the 360.

Read the Quick Start Guide - there's a section labelled 'How to stop the transcode of a file you no longer want to watch'... Simply clicking stop/pause stops playback, but considering you might want to come back to your video at a later point T360 will continue until the file is completely transcoded or you explictly tell it to stop:
