yea that was the first thing i did actually... still doesn't work so i just gave up on it and uninstalled it.

Administrative tools and then to Services
Try to start Windows Media Connect Service
Upon receiving the error, Right Click on Windows Media Connect Service go to Properties
Go to Dependencies
Note each of the listed services
Go to each one and set them all to Manual...Then try starting the windows media connect service. Set the service to automatic aswell.
Note...you should have these servies enables:
SSDP Discovery Service
HTTP SSL
Universal Plug and play device host
I believe you also need windows firewall service enabled
Some firewalls (in particular winroute firewall) disables these required services.

type services.msc in my run command and check to see if ssdp was started and set to auto, universal plug and play device host was started and set to auto, and workstation was started and set to auto which they all were. next he had me turn off pop up blocker in internet explorer and turn off windows firewall which i did. after all was said and done it still didnt work.
so what i did was did a fresh install of mce meaning i started from a clean slate formatted my harddrive and started new again. did the above steps(pop up blocker set to off and firewaall turned off and made sure the services settings were started,etc.) and downloaded all updates for the computer so i would be running all the up-to-date settings i would need. i then downloaded from xbox.com the setup files to my computer. i then shut down and then connected my 360 directly to my computer using the 2nd ethernet port on my computer just to see if i would still get the same "cannot find xbox360" error messages i was getting before.i started everything back up (pc,360) and ran the installation. lo and behold i still got the error message. what i figured out was you need to have ports 5555 tcp open in your firewall and 7777 udp and both scopes should be on your subnet along with the other ports the media connect opens in your firewall. here is a list of everything that should be allowed in your firewall....
media center - scope: subnet
media center extender service- port: 3776 udp - scope: any computer
remote media center experience - port 3390 tcp - scope: any computer
windows media connect - port - 10284 udp - scope: subnet
windows media connect - port - 10283 udp - scope: subnet
windows media connect - port - 10282 udp - scope: subnet
windows media connect - port - 10281 udp - scope: subnet
windows media connect - port - 10280 udp - scope: subnet
windows media connect - port - 10243 tcp - scope: subnet
media streaming - port: 5555 tcp - scope: subnet
network validation - 7777 udp - scope: subnet
upnp framework ports 2869 tcp and 1900 udp both scope subnet
if any arent there just add them.
next what i did was manually configred the ip address of the ethernet port that the 360 was connected to to something that was going to be seen by the 360 meaning the ip of the xbox was 169.254.115.155 and subnet mask was 255.255.0.0 so on my computer i opened up the settings of the ethernet port that the 360 was connected to and manually set these settings:
ip : 169.254.115.145
subnet mask: 255.255.0.0
gateway: 169.254.115.145
and on the 360:
ip:160.254.115.145
subnet mask: 255.255.0.0
gateway: 169.254.115.145 <----- pc ip address
reran the setup installation again and boom everything was fixed. it even asked for the 8 digit setup key during the install, something that it never asked me for before. i was racking my brain for over 2 weeks for like 6 hours a day or more trying to figure out what was wrong with my previous setup through my router and this was the only way i could get it to work. after it was all said and done.... i'm unimpressed with the mce on the 360. sure its nice to be able to listen to music and stuff thru the 360 and all but it wasnt worth the headache. xbox media center is so much more advancded compared to mce its not even funny.MS should have just asked the guys who made xbmc to do thir magic for the 360. it would have been alot easier to set up thats for sure. i just cant wait for the day that i can use xbmc on my 360.

I had to go to the services: start/run/ services.msc and start the following services:
SSDP recovery service
Universal plug and play
Windows Media Connect
After doing this my windows media connect finally worked, I opened windows media connect and it saw the xbox, I allowed it once i opened up windows media connect, after that I ran SP2 and it authorized my xbox 360, I was able to go to my xbox and stream my music.

Control Panel >> Windows Firewall >> "Don't allow exceptions". Make sure that box is NOT checked and try again.
