Actually you would be incorrect. It is available as an OEM purchase from several online places including

Yep... and alot of times you can get it with certain TV tuner cards... I actually found a bundle with the card I want for my MCE box ... but I have MCE don't need that... damn bundles... damn them to hell

last I checked you cannot buy a copy of XP MCE,
only comes preloaded on machines.
in the UK (and US I think from AZ) you can buy MCE OEM as long as you buy a piece of hardware (e.g cheapest mouse, a fan, a single cd)

I got mine through the MS Action Pack Subscription, we weren't going to use it at work
Can't find it on the US side
very nice though, streams music ok, pics come down quite quick (although sometimes you get a loading bar at top left) MCE extender was laggy, but i am using 802.11b at the mo, and I also couldn't try video because of the 802.11b
ebay will have good deals.
but can you sign up 2 MCE pc's? as if i disconnected mine, i had to reregister it with the box
BTW my box is dead

So most likely I could install WMC on my computer without any issues. So I wouldn't necessarily need a remote or any of that business in order for it to work correctly? thanks for all the info guys
Thats correct. Thats exactly what I did and it works fine. I DO have a tuner card, but it's not actually in my pc at the moment which WMC didn't seem to care about and I also don't have the remotes and whatnot but media center runs perfectly well and streams video to the xbox without a hitch.
