Gary on the mce newsgroups posted a link to a solution that works perfectly, so for anyone else wishing to accomplish the same (access network shares vom xbox360 mce extender), here's a working solution:
How to Setup a Mapped Drive on your MCX with a Domain-based Computer

Im trying to do the same thing, but the link isn't working for me.
-
Just keep hitting refresh and it will eventually pop up

i had problems opening the page with firefox. ie worked fine though.

add the shares thru 360; click info button on remote to bring up more access then add videos select from another computer in 360 wizard

I was messing around tonight before coming here. I've added shares from XP machine no problem but not from server. Adding shares using Info button doesnt find server shares (for me at least). I have MCE PC, XP machine and a Win2003 server. I want to try and share a mount point on the server that feeds 8 HDDs with hi-def content.
I'm off to look at the above link to see if I can break my server

I'm struggling with Gary's instructions. This is what I have created (.bat)
net use z:\\Server\HD-Movies XXXXXX /user:SERVER\administrator /persistent:NO
XXXXXX is password.
Have I messed something up with spacing or something? This is created on the Media Centre PC right? and no the server? Also my server is a workgroup machine , does this make a difference?
