well while playing a nonkinect game I had an idea.
I thought about when you need to flash from usb with xellous. It requires the power to be cut from the 360, else xellous never recognises the usb stick to flash the new nanddump.
At the initial install, I had pulled the power......as I had to gain access to take the wires out the back from the external usb. Since the 360 had force powered off trying to load Joyride it may have explained why.
So....I took the power supply out and then back in....plugging USB drive back to front port.
It worked!!!
What is odd now however, is I tried Kinect Adventures.....worked perfect (prev gave the "The Game Could Not Start Please Download The Game Again" message
I then tried the Kinect Sports......worked perfect (previously loaded - until I selected a game of football and then it crashed back to dash with Unreadable Disc error)
And finally, tried Joyride...worked perfect (which was what caused the 360 to fully shut off last time shortly after trying to load it from FSD (well within a few seconds)
So.....not a clue why those 3 games had the problem initially....after all Kinectimals was working fine.
But then thought the pain of this would mean would have to cut the power each time want to use the Kinect so it recognises the USB on front ports.....so I shut it off as normal, and then back on.......It still worked
So...any idea why these games wouldn't work first time round? It wasn't FSD as tried xexmenu etc which also wouldn't see the USB drive unless it was in the rear port only, like FSD. The 360 hadn't been on for any period of time previously initially...just those few kinect games, the first cpl of which were unsuccessful (after installing the final part of kinect update and kinect configuration)

Is your external harrdrive have it's own power supply?

hiya yup it's a powered drive.
its actually a powered docking station for 3.5"/2.5" drives - so I can interchange between 360/popcornplayer/wii/ps3
never had this issue before like like that.
Really odd that it initially wouldn't load those game initially, then working for Kinectimals....then USB stopped until a full power off. I tried a load of times with various options, both fronts, with and without kinect, with/out hub etc but all did same....also checking at same time that docking station worked fine connected to laptop etc in case was hdd
Tried a few shutdown/powerups and it still is working, touch wood. The only difference I can think of would be that the kinect dashboard updated, rebooted itself, then went through routine checks etc....whereas now it has no need for any updates to be applied. Perhaps a bug in the initial kinect updates could cause it.
Hopefully...just have to put it down as 'one of those things' and hope it doesn't happen again.
