for Mame360 for retail xbox you need to put them on a usb device in root:\Emus\Mame\roms\ with the xex version you can edit the file to point to any location

Title: Mame360 For Retail Consoles
Post by: wackwick on December 14, 2009, 02:35:00 PM
how can we specify a path to our HDD? for example the same folder where mame360 is installed on the hdd (for me its Hdd1:/Content/0000000000000000/blblalba/00080000/ or something similar)...

when i specify such a path in the options.ini file mame detects no roms and just crashes... ive been using le fluffie app to read content packages to see if i can find some paths specified that will help me determine what to do... i tried relative paths (../roms/) didnt work... full paths like stated above, didnt work either... ive failed miserably so far.. not sure what to do... i found a file on GTA expansion pack that had a path like (e1:/..) but this seemed to point to the content package itself... havent tried it yet tho...

can anyone help? i would really like to put my roms on the 360 hdd... outise of the con file would be prefered but i guess inside it would be better than on USB...

correct. format in Xbox 360

if you'd want games to load from within the live container make it  rompath= game:/Roms ... you'd need a dir named Roms inside the root, throw all your roms in there, then pack it.

Let's try and build a working/not working list of roms.

Also what video setting they run on. 480i/480p/720p/1080i/1080p. I just got my xbr'ed 360. Now I need to find a 0.112 rom set.

running off a 8gb usb stick.

This actually worked for me after I deleted the .ini file.

So MS internal HD \Emus\Mame\roms\

Next issue - MAME won't load any of them. Any advice here? I have a half-dozen old roms that load fine under MAMEOX for xbox1. On MAME360 it just goes through the loading screen, pauses, then back to MAME menu.

Thanks,

Instead of building your own container use QuickBoot v1.1 and create a "games on demand" container shortcut  pointing to the .xex  (or demo container if your prefer) No need to worry about the 4gb limitation with this method. biggrin.gif

The problem is the only defined devices are
CODE
usb:....\Device\Mass0...dvd:....\Device\Cdrom0
so setting another one will fail, there is still a way though, you can set game:\ in the .ini file

this way : rompath = game:\Emus\Mame\roms
game:\ being the folder which contains mame's xex.

Then it will work.

patching with an hex editor the device map string changing it to the following
CODE
hdd:....\Device\Harddisk0\Partition1
 might have worked but the path lenght is too big for it to respect the original one.

P.S. To those who could not figure it out, the in rom menu is accessed by using left trigger + a

Turns out that deleting the .ini file is not good advice. It will make the ROMS show up if you use the default folder places, but prevent roms from loading.

Better solution is to fix the paths in your .ini properly so MAME sees the roms, and then they boot.

All is good now.

PS - Left trigger plus A brings up MAME menu, Left trigger plus push RS brings you back to MAME rom list

Just look at my post, as I said use game:\ as a device ini the option.ini file . game:\ maps to the folder where your xex is contained.

anything other than usb, dvd or game will fail because such devices as hdd are not defined in the mame binary.

Christ this is doing my head in huh.gif

I already look thick on this thread so one more wont make any diff

my xex is on internal drive at Hdd1:\EMUS\mame
my roms are in Hdd1:\EMUS\Roms

Tried changing Hdd1 to game and couple of others tries I won't mention.  Does someone want to put me out of my misery and shame?

There's your problem. Unless you are changing the .ini file, everything should be below \Mame

Example;

hdd1\emus\mame
hdd1\emus\mame\roms
etc...

Then edit your .ini so the root of all paths is game:\ (as mentioned above).

Example;

game:\roms
etc.

Then all will work, and all is good.

Possibly because this build of MAME is from 2007, and you're looking at newer roms?

Would be nice if somebody updated this build for sure...

Thanks coreyinoz for your reply.
Although when reading it I realized I made a mistake in my post,  I DO have the folder structure YOU stated ie

hdd1\emus\mame
hdd1\emus\mame\roms

and I had already changed my ini to
rompath = game:\EMUS\mame\Roms

And they do not work.  Also tried rompath = game:\Roms     does the character case matter?

OK,

Cut and paste of my .ini file;

rompath = game:\roms
samplepath = game:\samples
cfg_directory = game:\cfg
nvram_directory = game:\nvram
memcard_directory = game:\memcard
input_directory = game:\inp
state_directory = game:\sta
artpath = game:\artwork
snapshot_directory = game:\snap
diff_directory = game:\diff
ctrlrpath = game:\ctrlr
comment_directory = game:\comments
cheat_file = game:\cheat.dat
title_path = game:\titles

autoframeskip = 0

I have it installed into an internal hardrive at location

\Emus\Mame (mame360.xex in here)
\Emus\Mame\Media (.ini file and other supporting files in here)
\Emus\Mame\roms (guess what goes here)

That's it. If you can't get it working now, not sure what else to say.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info, but I had a problem and wanted to see if it worked for you guys. Even though I can now boot Mame from NXE dashboard following coreyinoz advice, I still need the usb stick to be plugged in for the rom list to work. Does anyone here have the same issues. Do you need all files and folders that are in the option.ini?

The options.ini file is in the Media folder, if you don't have one you probably got the retail dash one.

I found out what I was doing wrong I had both Mame360's on my hard drive and it was messing up each other. The method coreyinoz posted does work sorry for any confusion.

Hey guys

Can anyone tell me in the following games run full speed.

Mortal Kombat 2
NBA Jam
Primal Rage
Street fighter Alpha 3

If not could it be due to the Xbox's CPU not be utilized properly?

Thanks

Funny I just tried 3 of those. I can't find an MK2 that runs good but I did see a video of it running better then mine.
Street Fighter Alpha 1,2 and 3 run fine.
The first SFA3 rom I found didn't run that good but the one I have now runs fine.

NBA Jam runs fine but NBA Hangtime ran slow with no sound.

I haven't tried Primal Rage.

Not this video is it.

even SSF2 looked slow lol

Found this video quite good how it compares XB1 vs. X360 http://www.dailymoti...-360_videogames

I find it hard to believe MK2 will not run full speed with sound.

I guess the Mame emulator need's to be optimised.

I've Been looking over the specs of the CPU in the 360 wow its big diff over the original.

With Mame do you always have to go back to dash once you exit a rom?

MK1 worked good with sound, MK2 did work but slowly. had to disable sound to run game full speed.

So I find it hard to belive the xbox 360 can't run that game full speed.

I have mame360 on my external usb drive, and have the folder Emus\Mame\roms inside the mame360 folder.

have changed the ini file so all the paths are as game:Emus\Mame\roms etc. and have created all the other folders as in the ini file.

If I load mame up it shows some roms (just a couple of test ones at the moment) which I select and the screen goes black, then briefly flashes up a loading bar which looks to get to 100%. Then the screen goes black again and after a few seconds it goes back to the mame menu.

Any ideas whats going on or wrong ?

You're not reading closely enough.

When you change your .ini to game:\* you don't need to put in the full path any more like game:\emus\mame\roms...

if you use game:\*, Mame will take "game" as the folder it's being run from, and everything is below that.

go back to the post on page 2 for a correctly formated .ini

It's worth noting that this is the only build of MAME360 that I've found, and it's over 2 years old. If you read the posts of the time, it appears to be a proof of concept. It's not hard to believe there's no optimization. What we need is somebody to update to the latest port, and optimize a bit.

Alas, I haven't seen any thread of people volunteering to do this, so we may be waiting a while.

Yeah it appears no one's showing a lot of interest sad.gif. It's funny I mainly got a Jtag xbox just for MAME and SNES tongue.gif.

I'm tried Mortal Kombat 1,2,3

MK1 full speed
MK2 43/53FPS
MK3 42/53FPS

So hoping that once someone becomes interested, they can optimise the emulator a bit so these become fully playable smile.gif

Dude you have to check out the xbox 1 forums, especially the emulator forums if you want some good HD console/arcade emulation. There's "alot of interest " there.

Modding an original xbox is worlds easier than the 360. It doesn't sound like MAME360 is not very user friendly at all unsure.gif

Not sure what's happening there mate.

THis is how I got my games to run.

I installed the emu to the xbox's HDD content folder.

I just then put my roms into USB:/emus/mame/roms and it works fine for me.

Biggest problem I'm having is getting the snaps I take to work with the roms.

I placed the snaps I take are in USB:/emus/mame/snaps and still will not show any suggestions guys?

Thanks

I had this problem at first Roms won't load from dvd:\ they have to have one folder at least so place in say Roms like I have and point your ini to dvd:\Roms they will show also for the other paths just change usb to game and then remove emu\mame\ for all but I think this only works for the non live version.

Also for Roms that are compatible with this build of Mame coinops dvd for xbox 1 has over 1200 roms that are compatible you will need romcenter and the mame 0.112.dat that can be found on romcenters arcive page.

Thanks

Josh

I concur.. I can't even play Pacman, Asteroids, Gadius, and many more. The ROMS will attempt to load up and then it dumps back to the MAME 360 main screen.

The same ROMS play just fine on my PC with the latest MAME32.

This MAME 360 needs some serious updating.. It's dated 3/2007.

I haven't taken a close look at MAME360 yet, but considering that it is based on mainline MAME 0.112, you can expect it to share its compatibility list with that version (at best), and do not forget that sometimes the MAME team changes its idea of a valid ROM set for a certain game, so a ROM set that works in current MAME32 wouldn't work in MAME360, but a different, older set of the same game might (should?) work.

In any case, this should be useful to validate ROM sets for MAME360 (clrmamepro gives me headaches):
MAME32 v0.112 from an obscure-but-working Chinese Gaming site.

Does MAME360 have CPS3 emulation?It'd be so sick to play SF3 3rd Strike on the 360....

I'd check myself, but don't have a JTAG Xbox until tomorrow.

Their is a port of CPx3 emulator that was for xbox 1 that runs on the 360 I use that to run all the cps3 games off the 360 hard drive. I think it was a quick port because it can freeze from time to time but it runs all the games good. On Mame 360 I run the rest of the Street Fighters on. SF1, all the SF2's, all SFA's run fine. I even got Street Fighter the Movie to run fine and SVC chaos.

Are you running off a USB HD or thumb drive? The 360 doesn't like a lot of thumb drives. Pacman, Asteroids, Gadius should play fine. Do you have all the roms? I can play NBA Jams with no problems. So all 3 of those games should work. Does anyone know the magic question of are they working on a new port? Would be nice to play some of the chd games.

running off a WD 1TB drive. All the other ROMS play fine except the few that I mentioned. They load up, I see a blip of the screen where you see ROM loading and then it dumps back to the MAME360 mainscreen.

I'm not sure how I would know if I have all the ROM sets for them to work with MAME360. I was just assuming that if they load up in the latest PC version of MAME32 that they should work under MAME360.

Pacman, Asteroids, Gadius, are all dated from the early 90's. Perhaps if you got these titles working, you can archive them and put them on a popular download site and PM a link...

I am having the same problem...I found a 112 DAT file and rebuilt my 136 set using 112 and came up with over 6000 complete rom zip files.  When FTPing to box I hit the 4096 file limit sad.gif

I am trying now to rebuild again as merged sets instead of split sets which will get the # of zip files under 4096...

I hope MAME360 works with merged sets smile.gif

It appears the MAME360 does not work with merged sets...I only see the parent sets now after merging...

I am going to be really honest here.

This emulator SUX right now.

I came all happy with a bazillion roms that I had 100% working on my xbox 1, toke me like half hour to config the stupid badly ported emulator to load those from my hdd, and you know what? It doesn't play a single of the games I wanted, not even sfa3 lol!!

Well, guess I will wait for someone to update it.

I AM SO FRUSTRATED RIGHT NOW, SORRY.
