Title: Old Dashboard, No New Game Support?
Post by: lcsaeteurn on August 09, 2009, 03:46:00 AM
Just got a used 360 yesterday, I was told that the console will not play some games. But every game that I've thrown in it works fine. I don't have any new releases to test on it, but do I have to upgrade the dashboard to get support for newer releases? I was going to replace the dvd drive but I wanted to make sure that it's not the dashboard that is blocking the newer releases from working.

Is there any other problems that may keep the 360 from booting certain games?

Thanks for any help. Bye.

It will eather be the dash (if its really old) and games will ask if you want to update if thats the case.
Other wise the firmware on the dvd drive its self thats stopping new games (wave 3 support).

If you dont have a reason for the old dash (running linux via king kong) then just update via usb stick.
Theres more positives then negitives. (can just take awhile to get use to layout)

the person you got it off most likely means it wont boot a wave 3 backup game as it has old firmware on the drive.?
if youre using original games this does not apply and all the newer games will work just fine from an original disc but if you want to make backups of any recent releases you will need to first update the dvd drives firmware to the latest version.

I am only testing original games, I may have to rent a newer game to test it. I just wanted to know what I have to look into fixing.

thanks for the replies, I really appreciate the help. later then.
