Post by: bishop05 on September 13, 2006, 06:31:00 AM
The new bata of Vista has a Media Center built in, We were able to Stream AVI, WMA, MPEG to the 360.
there once the 360 is booted Vista recognized it on the network and we had to enter a media key.

The problem u guys have is that Media Centre on RC1 doesnt work with the DivX codec yet (or at least very well at all) .

Uninstall DivX then

Use this:-

http://ovh.dl.source...60925_clsid.exe
(open source media codec thingy called ffdshow)

Then install Transcoder 360

Restart when it asks you to.

The first time transcoder 360 runs (after restart) it will crash. Find the exe file and open its properties, set it to "run as administrator".

For those of you thinking about trying out vista, Streaming from Vista RC1 to Xbox 360 works fully (with ffdshow and Transcoder 360).  biggrin.gif  biggrin.gif

Added to the post above, remember to install the .Net 1.1 framework and its service pack 1.1 to Vista before trying to install Transcode 360.

What is this Vista 5728 you speak of?  How do the rest of us get it?

Yup.  'Tis true.  And by the time it expires, most of us should have new computers with Vista preinstalled.  lol

No....

Vista RC1, Vista 5728 and Vista RC2 (all 32 bit) do not playback mpeg1 or mpeg2 streams. This is forcing people to transcode into WMV. I find within the wmv container one pass quality mode WMA10P and WMV8 work best for quality vs transcode time.

Pre RC1, Vista had crippled playback of mpeg1/2 where no cueing could occur - only skipping.

MS only appear to want to continue their monopolistic behaviours by making the best support for WMV / WMA based media.
