OK, When I install WMC 2005 should I put "upgrade recommend" or "new installation advanced"..?

im not sure but hopefully upgrade will keep all your current apps and settings, if you do new install i know for a fact you WILL over write everything

 i just did a new install since it was time to reformat my drives anyways

yup same here, I put everything I need to keep on my 500GB hdd, and then disconnected it to be sure, then installed MCE 2005, reconnected it and everything is gravy, except I need a hidef tuner card (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)
