Boy a lot has happened these past 2 weeks I've been away from NY. A lot of things to check out when I get back tomorrow. Thanks for all of your hard work, I wish I knew how to code to help out but don't think I would learn it soon enough  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

That is INSANE this comes out about the same time as the new reset glitch.  I've been using Showtime on my ps3 for a few months now and have grown very accustomed to using it despite many flaws.  I'm thrilled I have a second option now.

Does this mean you can play 720p Mkv from your internal HDD and your external HDD?

If so this would be awsome smile.gif

I have been testing it with mkv at 720p and so far it does not like it at all, slow downs and crashing.
I am going to see if it likes 480p mkv content after i get some sleep.

Don't know about external, though I don't see why not, but yes, I was just playing x-men first class 720p .mkv from my internal HDD, and it worked well.

Image quality is slightly lacking, jagged edges/screen tearing, but it's still a great step forward (IMG:style_emoticons/default/love.gif)

Only time it slowed down and crashed for me, is when I was wiggling the thumb sticks around. Are they supposed to do something?

I have also tried a 720p movie from my external HDD and can confirm the jagged edges and a slight slowdown but it still plays, further testing is needed but this is a great step forward for movie playback on the 360.

One more question though, when i was testing the movie and pressed the A button to bring up the player controls and pressed stop the machine froze!
Is there a way to go back to freestyle dash or your original dash?

Thanks

matroska is an unstable codec at best, I have to use a variety of players PC To get a variety of files to play FMP, seems to be  a good fall-back. The fact this works at all on 360 is amazing (To my mind) I think in the future, more attention will be paid to encoding in a 360 friendly manner, that should give the best results... If anyone has good success with any particular5 methods/settings/appps pls let us know :-)

Matroska isn't unstable, and it's not a codec.

Just out of curiosity, can it play strictly audio?

Just did a few quick tests. It played FLAC in .mkv and .mka, .m4a 320 and .mp3 V2. Did not play .wma lossless, .flac or Ogg Vorbis q8.

This is a pleasant surprise  smile.gif
Especially as tonight my 360 would only play Limitless without the audio synced, had to fire up XBMC on my orriginal xbox  tongue.gif
It will be nice to see if this really goes anywhere esp with the new glitch hack broadening the dev horizons

Yea there isn't much to theme on this software, but maybe eventually the dev's will give us more options in future releases.  Anyway, our theme section is open for FFPlay 360 on spiffy360.com

This is exciting to see, even in alpha. I'm seriously looking forward to more updates. Besides the compatibility and performance issues, you should also look into streaming from PC and support for NTFS drives. Most of my 720p movies are more than 4GB and sit on an NTFS drive and I'd rather watch them all in one go than split them so they fit on FAT32.

The source has been released, feel free to contribute wink.gif

Too bad I got sick of waiting for an ideal console media player and built an HTPC.

But it's nice to know I could have waited it out.

Put it wherever you want and run the .xex. You'll get a simple file browser (text only) and be able to select your file from that. If the file is playable, it will load. If not, it returns to the root.

NTFS USB drives not working. so no files over 4gb.

wouldn't using a HFS+ (mac) formatted hard disk solve this issue? one would need the ipod optionnal plugin to be installed though.

I doubt people with existing NTFS drives full of movies want to scrap the whole thing and reformat.

Finally, an end to Microsoft's DRM bullshit!  Out of about 5 JTAG's I have put together only one would play media reliably without throwing off a codec error.  And it's driven me half mad trying to figure out why it never worked as it should.

Suck it MS!

Oh, and in other news, congrats on getting bent over harder than Sony.

been waiting for this since 2006, somehow Thank You just dosent say it.

looks like i wont have any problems playing any of my movies as they are mostly 720p xvid with either mp3 or ac3 audio, if only it supported smb so i dident have to move everything external, im sure it will eventually.

im sure by the time i get done building some reset glitch boards there will be a rebooter out and i can use this on   a slim (even my jasper is a bit loud to play movies)

in any case this is major progress in the right direction, thank you for releasing the source, much appreciated.

o did i say

Thank You

no?...ok i will say it again

Thank You

The optional media update works great as long as you set it up correctly. It will of course only play the codex and formats that MS allows. Any other codec's will need to be played with FFplay360.

Steps to get video to play:
1. Find the "optional media update". Use yariswap to remove or verify there is no console ID.
2. Put media update on a XBOX formated mem stick, hdd, or usb hard drive. It will not work if you place it in the contents folder on your USB drive. It must be located on an XBOX formated media.
3. Install full dashboard release that includes avatars. Without installing the full dashboard w/ avatars I found the screen shows up black.
4. Goto stock NXE dashboard, click on your Video Library and enjoy!

I can't wait until this FFplay360 is more stable and the optional media codex pack is a thing of the past. Keep up the great work guys!

Whilst i love the homebrew crew and what they are doing, is this type of app really worth the hassle when an $80 western digital/seagate network media player will play 1080p mkv files flawlessly even outputting optical DTS to a receiver?

I love the effort and the tech but its a bit like building a transistor radio these days, why?
Title: FFplay Xbox360 - Homebrew Media Player
Post by: Obveron on October 08, 2011, 08:22:00 AM
It is worth the hassle if it can lead to bigger and better apps that can do everything a WD live player can do and more.

It has the potential to p*** all over a WD LIVE.

And having 1 less box under the telly has to be a good thing.

I live in hope...

Just copy the folder to anywhere you like and run it from there. Me personally, I have a folder called Homebrew on my hdd and just add it to my paths in FSD.

It's a pity this hasn't moved on much, I'm gonna have to get a WD Live or Boxee to stream my stuff. I can't handle the choppy playback thru windows media center on most of the so-called HD formats. Microsoft, you really suck the big one!!!
XBMC was awesome in it's day on the old xbox1, I wish the guys had continued their support on the 360.  sad.gif

Yes it is sad that development has stopped on this project.  I was hoping the FSD team would integrate media playback into their dashboard.

Does anyone else having a freezing issue?  I try playing a h.264 standard def movie file.  only special option is 8x8 transform.  I'm trying to play some TV episodes.  It will play one file fine but it will freeze bout 20 min in on the next file.  Ive tried different file combinations and different  media setting to no avail.  I've even tried different formats it makes no difference.  I have the files on  500 gig usbhdd if that helps. thanx

I don't understand why the guys at XBMC would rather run their application on platforms where no one use it, instead of Xbox 360 where everyone would use it.

Just doesn't make sense to me... it's called XBOX media center... right?

XBMC hit the mainstream, they won't port it to XDK as it's in a somewhat grey area of the law.
We may see XBMC for legal libxenon but frankly I think it's unlikely.
