Title: Hdd Banned?
Post by: alamez on November 02, 2009, 03:28:00 PM
So what exactly is going on with the HDD and the current ban hammer. I have chosen to not log into live until there is some consensus as to what exactly is going on.  So my hdd is still fine.  My question is if i log in and then im banned will i be able to use my saves and my hard drive.  is there something i should do to protect my saves like buying a mem unit and putting my saves in there? I have an arcade with a jasper it has the internal memory on it. i am running 1.51

yes id like to know a confirmed situation too. it makes the CONSOLE unable to use the harddisk, not the harddisk itself right?

so no matter what, you can no longer put another hdd unit onto the banned console? is this correct??

no,

the hdd is fine, it's the console that do not allow you to install the games to any hdd you connect it to.

Is it safe to use a HDD from a banned 360 and use that HDD on a non-flash/modded 360?

Basically when the console is banned and the hdd is in there it gets a little messed up (on purpose).

your saved games won't work on a different xbox.

you can't install games or play installed games on the banned xbox.

You CAN format it on a non banned xbox and use it normally again.

but well...I wouldn't put it back into the banned xbox.

I just bought an Elite with 120GB hard drive.  Will I not be able to transfer my game saves to the new hard drive using the transfer kit?  Does this include DLC?  If I transfer my licenses to the new console could I redownload the content for free?

i was wondering about this question also....

so if I buy a arcade console, put my "banned hdd" to it... install games works again? but saved games wont? wtf? so that means im gonna loose all my progress in previous games? I can't just transfer a save from a banned hdd, to a mem unit and have it work from there?  i have like 50gb worth of saves/videos/dlc that I dont wanna loose on a format of a hdd....

can someone clarify this?

has been said MEMORY UNIT = STILL CORRUPT WHEN TRANSFERING.

ONLY THING you can RETAIN 100% is your PROFILE (recover gamertag only!)

that is IT!

now if you backup BEFORE you are banned, you are OK!

thats freaking gay, so banned hdd saves works on banned console....  if u wanna keep saves then best bet is just to keep the banned hdd and console together and play old games on that and go buy a new console with hdd and start new games on that...  wow  fml

From what i've seen with some xbox is the following:

1. If you had your drive in a modded console and the console got banned there is two case>

a. You've removed your HDD - Immediately to a new console - everything savefiles -profiles stays the same nothing get corrupted.

b. If you continued to play on the modded banned console for a while, then move to the unbanned console, gamesave get corrupted.

so basically MS is stopping you from playing on your banned console and then logging to live on another console, you will lose all your game saves

also keep in mind its also been reported that anything you can get back with the 'recover gamertag' will be just fine. anything associated with your gamertag should be fine, unless you got a GT ban.

this just happened to my friend.  You won't be able to use anything on the hard drive until your reformat it.  He couldn't even read his gamertag off the hard drive.  Once you reformat it (you need to do this on an unbanned console) the hard drive will work again.  This is a new type of ban because i've never heard of them banning hard drives till today. lol.

This is what I have found.

xbox banned (fair enough)
moved HD to non banned xbox (reinstalled Forza (orginal) to HD) can access my saves (garage etc for online).
Move HD back to banned box, cannot install..

On banned box logged in as a old profile (not used) played RROD MW2

Put HD back on non banned xbox old profile is now corrupt.. can delete (but not saves) and recover.

However, Forza had saved on the same pofile (same save) on both boxes and still works.. most odd

Some saved games are copy protected.

Meaning you can't use the copy command to copy it from the hard-drive to a memory card but you CAN use the move command to just move it to the memory card.

I wonder if Forza is NOT copy protected but MW2 IS copy protected.

edit:  Nope, that can't be it...unless it's the copyable ones that get screwed up instead.

'cause Forza 3 saves are not copyable.

So the HDD ban is saved on the console itself... Have anyone tried doing an offline update and see if it overwrites the HDD ban?

If a console is banned and they corrupt the harddrive, you format it on another xbox360, can you put it back in the banned console and still save to it?
Title: Hdd Banned?

on the banned hard drive we tried using it on the new console to recover his profile to the old hard drive (we thought they erased his profile because it was gone!).  THis didn't work giving us an error each time.  Finally we recovered it to another hard drive.

After reformatting the banned hard drive, it worked again.

I got banned today.  I didn't play any game after getting banned.  I took my memory card (with my profile on it) to an unbanned Xbox.  My profile was not shown.  If I access the memory card it shows my profile as "Corrupted Profile".

The ban somehow actually fucked with the data on my memory card and made its data unusable.

This is unacceptable.  I feel MS has no right to do this.

yeah, that's what i said.  I felt bad for my friend. just reformat it and you're okay.

Yes, you can recover your account onto an unbanned console.  Just don't try to put it on a banned hard drive on an unbanned console (unless you already reformatted the hard drive). once you format the drive and recover your profile, transfer your licenses to your new box using www.xbox.com/drm
then go to account history and redownload all your stuff.

I lucked out.  My console was banned but I was able to move a lot of my game saves and profiles to my new unbanned console.  Only had one profile get corrupted and it was a profile that my friend uses when he comes over.

Would I be safe doing this?.......

I've got a 360 with 512 MB of internal memory, although my gamertag, game saves etc. are on a 120 GB hard drive. If I copy my gamertag to the internal memory and remove the hard drive, then turn the console on and connect to Live and find that I'm banned, surely my game saves wouldn't get corrupted and would work on another console? Is that a fair assumption?

So just saying I got the Ban Hammer, my Profile, Save Game's Plus Downloaded Content are corrupted on the hacked 360. But I got my Profile, Save Game's Plus Downloaded Content 120 HDD backed up on my PC before I got banned.

Now to get my corrupted Profile, Save Game's Plus Downloaded Content back I need to format it on the Xbox360 not in your PC, Then transfer Profile, Save Game's Plus Downloaded Content back on the HDD using my PC. Then put it in one that was never banned or just got New and every thing should show up, ?

This applies to Banned Consoles having a Hacked HDD or banned for no reason.

I never got banned because I'm waiting for my benq drive but I got a liteon in my x360 now, so backing up before hand would be good or not and can I go about doing it this way if I was to get banned ? thanks

I'm trying to preserve my Xbox hard drive in case I get banned so I can keep my content / gamesaves.

Will this scenario work?
  1. Backup HDD with Xplorer360 to bin file before getting banned
  2. HDD gets corrupted by ban
  3. Buy new Xbox arcade (no HDD)
  4. Restore bin file to corrupted HDD
  5. Attach restored HDD to new (non-modified) Xbox arcade
  6. Sign in to XBL and play content / gamesaves like nothing happened
a ) will this work?
b ) is this going to get my 2nd Xbox (non-modified) banned?

Thx,
R

I am still a little confused and need some things clarified.

I have two 'boxes. One modified, one not. I have two HDD's. One that is mine, a 120GB that came with my Elite, it has all my profiles/saves/DLC on it, it belongs to the nonmodified console. The second HDD is actually my brother's, and belongs on his XBOX, but he leaves it on my modified one most of the time. It has his all his information on it. If I want to play something on my name, I usually just throw my HDD on whatever console I'll be playing on. He does the same.

Now, the modded 'box is banned, and got banned with my brother's HDD on it. I removed it immediately and tried it on my 'box, and all the profiles loaded fine, everything looked OK. Now, I've unplugged the banned 'box from LIVE. If I wanted to play a game on it, I'd have to plug my HDD to it and it'd get corrupted, am I correct? Since I unplugged before any damage was done do I still run this risk? I'll be honest and say I'm using it to play a pirated copy of Modern Warfare 2, however, I also have it on preorder and will be buying it, but I want to continue to play until then. I just ordered a memory unit before all this went down. Will I be able to put my profile on the memory unit and play from there?

I just want to be able to play some of the games on this console on my 'tag, but without corrupting an HDD. I assume the memory unit will also corrupt, which is going to suck. Say I put my profile on the unit, go out and play games on the modified box, unlock achievements and so forth, when I go to plug it into the unmodified one to play on LIVE or update it with the achievements, the profile will be corrupt. Is there a way to do this? I don't care that it's banned, I just want to be able to use my profile on both 'boxes.

Microsoft has gotten vicious.

Yeah, you stick it to the man! You bought a 360 so you could download games for free, so now that you can't do that, you want to show MS how upset you are by buying a PS3 even though you'll be paying for every game you play. LOL. Talk about entitlement issues. Why this forum doesn't ban obvious trolls like you I don't know.

a ) yes, this should work
b ) no it shouldn't get your non-modified console banned because the banned information isn't stored on the HDD.

The HDD itself is not getting banned. The banned console is intentionally screwing up the data on the HDD so it cannot be used on an unbanned console.  This has nothing to do with "gamesave licensing" and there is nothing that says gamesaves are only usable on the console they were created on. You can transfer a hard drive from an unbanned box to another unbanned box with no problems whatsoever, and up until about a month ago, you could do it from a banned box to an unbanned box too.  The option to "copy" not being there just means that you can only use that save on one box at a time, so people can't just give a copy of the gamesave to their friend who then loads it up and gets all the achievements.  You have to use "move" because it can only be on one box at a time. But it doesn't matter one bit how many boxes you transfer the save to, provided they are all unbanned consoles.

Rockband DLC that is now unplayable:

1. format the HD
2. get a new XBOX360 Arcade
3 Transfer license to new
4. re-download everything

?

I'm trying to put my hard drive into my other console and when I try and play a game it says it has to do a security update.  I never played on the banned console after I got the message.

If I do the update will it ruin the game saves?
How can I get them back?  I'm afraid to put my other console online to recover the gamertag in case it gets banned too.

1. If a Elite/Arcade gets banned, is it possible put in a USB memory and when starting to play a game save savegames there when play?

2. Or does the banned 360 completely lose savegame feature for hdd and USB memory?

3. So if the 360 gets banned just put the harddrive in another unbanned 360 and format it and it works perfect in the unbanned 360?

they don't actually ban the hard drive.  the choice of words when describing what they do is poor.  They put something on the NAND (onboard memory) that causes gamesaves and gamertag updates to be written differently (as well as disabling hard drive installs).  The gamesaves/gamertag still work on the hard drive/memcard, but if you try to run it in a different console they appear corrupted.

So there not really banning or corrupting the hard drive.  They're putting instructions on the nand that changes the way those files are being written.

I bought a WD 250GB HDD which I flashed for 360 use about a week ago...
My DVD Drive has been flashed for about 2 years, was currently running 1.6.
This was a launch 360.

Anyways, in all likeliness I was banned for the flashed DVD drive, however, does microsoft know i modded the HDD?

Is it safe for me to buy a Arcade and use this HDD? Or should i just buy an Elite? I don't mind playing by thier rules.

Hey, does that WD still work on your banned console? Mine was just banned and I'm bummed about not having a hard drive for it anymore so I was wondering if the WD external modded HDs still worked with a banned system. I'm guessing not, I can't see why, so it's really more wishful thinking than anything else. All the same, if anyone knows for sure let me know please.

I don't think they can detect that the hard drive is modified, the HDD hack just spoofs it to look like an actual m$ hard drive. If the console gets banned then if you use the hard drive it will corrupt the xbl profile ( i know from experience).

Ok my scenario so far......my xbox was banned...

I brought my HDD to my cousins xbox (not modded) And it worked fine. Not only my game saves where working but it logged into live also. I then copied my gamesave and profile to my cousins memory card and then I removed my HDD and put my cousins back. We played Borderlands (retail on his non modded xbox) fine. When done I put back my HDD (we did this since my cousins HDD had his stuff on it so thats why I was doing all this switching) and I copied my game save and gamertag back to my HDD. Went home to my banned xbox and all is good.

HOWEVER, my cousin came by me and had his profile and his gamesave on his memory card and we played Borderlands on my banned xbox. He played off of his memorycard and didnt do any copying or moving whatsoever to my HDD. When he returned home to his non modded xbox and tried to put back his gamertag and game save on his HDD it was all corrupt. But MY stuff seems to be ok still.

Things ive noticed with my HDD:

1. Can no longer copy games to my hard drive (pretty much everyones noticed this by now)

2. If I already had a game installed on my HDD b4 the ban, I cannot play it off the hdd. gives this msg "This game can only be played on the console and hard drive it was originally installed on.  To play on this console, delete and reinstall the game." Tried with all the games that where installed, same msg.

3. Still loads my game saves and saves my games when playing on my banned box.

4. Im guessing (going by what happened to my cousin) M$ allows you to bring your stuff to another xbox however someone elses profile from another xbox cannot be brought to the banned box because once removed it gets currupted. Just a thought im no expert.... blink.gif
