(IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) ya, 2.5 billion achievements. Damn this is a sick world we live in.
Almost all video game players don't stop when they want to but rather when they have all the achievements. Or even that they play for the sole purpose of collecting achievements, they'll buy any game that's hyped up and spend the entire time thinking about achievements. I blame the parents for being dumb****s.

i guess it just makes you feel like you achieved something.
and competing with your friends to try to get the biggest gamer score is even better.... now im not a achievement whore but i do like to compete with my friends now when you see someone online with a 50k gamerscore....that guy is in a whole different level lol

Almost all? Really? Do you have anything to support that bold claim? I'm thinking no. If anything I'd almost no one plays that way.

I don't know, I thought it was pretty interesting.

If that is what makes them happy... then so be it. If obtaining achievement points is fun for them, how is that any different from you spending your time having fun by enjoying the game your own way without worrying about the achievements? What's sick about this world we live in is people spending too much time worrying about what others are doing and not enough time worrying about what they are doing.

i love games and achievements !
-
I doubt this figure is accurate. What about all the users that have never connected to live? There's no way microsoft can know how many they have unlocked. I would say this is an over estimate.
-
it might just be the number for people who have connected to live, if it is its pretty impressive
-
we need a study about the long term effects of gamerscore hunting on teens

I dont care anything bout achievments...
That noob must be the biggest no-life noob on earth or the biggest cheater, cause i can put 99999999999 score if i want...
ps: still i dont care bout them, i have only 1k and dont give a shit, i dont even barely play 360, i play more in the pc, and have finish lots of games in it...

There comes a point though where somebody's gamerscore no longer says 'damn they're awesome' and starts to say 'shit, somebody needs to get out more!'
and to tristanx, its not really useless numbers to make MS seem impressive, 52 billion gamerpoints is pretty feakin' impressive, it shows that people don't buy the console and a couple games to play on now and then, and more likely play a few games frequently enough to unlock all the points.

It's a combined total, not a single user.
I personally like the achievement system, gives great replay value. But agreed, a gamerscore is certainly not an indication as to how good of a gamer you are.

That's great you don't care about achievements. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. In that same matter, you cannot bash someone else for caring about achievements (even if the story made no mention of a single person and you clearly missed the point of the article). But why the hell are you posting your opinions on an Xbox site when you barely play it and have only completed 1 game? Wouldn't you think it would be a little bit cool to have a list of all the games you have completed on PC and be able to show that to the world?

achievements! i have plenty!! i wonder if i can put these xbox achievements in my resume?

Achievements are also unlockable outside the US.

i would be more impressed if these things actually gave you something in return.
why not give us ms credit. my 5000+ achievements don't do anything.

i never understood why people want something in return for achievements.
also, a while back there was the old spice challenge. i got fuzion frenzy 2, a t-shirt and free MS points for boosting my gamerscore by 2k. but, i don't think these promotions are necessary.

Okay, I know I hate on them, to me it's just like, how can you be proud of how much game you've done?
How on earth can you be proud about that? I said this is a sick world because people are living in false realities.
If you're actually playing a decent ****ing game, you're not going to be focused on achievements what so ever.
Ok sure, it's great to "know" how many points you've been "awarded" for doing stuff in the virtual world, but my point is that PEOPLE TAKE THAT **** TOO FAR. IDK, I'm sorry, but I think that's true, and there is reason to be somewhat angered by people putting too much time into wasting time... Sure it's fun to relax right? But it feels too goddam adolescent you know? I'm a man, I don't give a flying **** about numbers in a game.
Sorry, I ranted didn't I?

A little but it's OK.
People have been comparing their achievements in games ever since games were invented. Look at batting averages, baskets per game, wins vs losses. Video game players have been comparing their gaming prowess since they were invented. The only difference now is it's a number calculated by a unbiased third party. Just like everything else, it can be taken too far.

If you can indulge into games more, you'll know some achievements really take a lot of skill (and luck) to obtain. I think it's good fun

"Look at batting averages, baskets per game, wins vs losses."
"The only difference now is it's a number calculated by a unbiased third party."
You are not getting points for any stat like accuracy. It's all stuff like, "Got 20 shoes" "Excecuted a fliptrick." It isn't calculated by an unbiased third party, you're giving them way too much credit. They give you 5 if it's something small, 200 for beating the game, 20 for getting to the next chapter.
"If you can indulge into games more, you'll know some achievements really take a lot of skill (and luck) to obtain. I think it's good fun laugh.gif"
It's not like anybody knows that you did those overly demanding achievements is it? I don't know if you can look at anybodies achievements in-depth, but if you're going to play a game and the game is easy until you go for the achievement that says "Finish the hard part without loosing any shield power" 15g, then you aren't even playing a hard game, just doing something unnesecary and inconsistent with the rest of the game, giving the game an extremely cheap way to "add" content, giving developers a much easier time with pumping out weak games, and people buying them and thinking it's awesome. You should play a game that's actually a challenge and learning the game is the achievement. Or play whatever you want and not give a **** about made up numbers.
Achievement hunting is like searching the street for monopoly money and everybody thinks having a lot of monopoly money is tight and searching for it isn't a waste of time at all. ...And while you're picking up monopoly money you're laughing your ass off.

Hey i do really like the achievment system, it's better with it than without it, i just meant to say i dont care about my score, i mean i dont care if i have 1 pt, 100 pts, 1000..., i just like to play, but still i like the ach. system...
If u really play for gamerscore, i have nothing against u, but the guy who has the biggest score on live must be the most no -life in the whole world, u know what i mean if u have like 500K or something it means u dont even sleep for playing games, and dont do anything in the real life other than playing, thats why the "no-life"
...

The funny thing about this is that more than half those achievements were glitched and manipulated by young kids dying to max out GS.
-
I got all the achievements for halo 3 before they added more just for the katana
that took a while but I had the time and effort. The skulls were hard but fun.

means nothing, huh? really. the fact that people are playing (and thus buying) enough games to unlock 52 billion gamerscore points means nothing? you may not like or care for gamerscore but to say it means nothing is just plain ignorant.
-
This is when the cheap bastards @ M$ should give us players something for doing the achievement like
10k Points 48hrs XBL
or a 100MS points
