Can anybody tell me when was the last time someone got his/her console banned from Xbox Live ? I haven't heard of any ban waves in this year 2008, maybe Microsoft realized that their mod detection can trigger some false positive or they prefer keep being paid Xbox Live fees even from owners of modded consoles

Except they'd sit on it for months and then on a random day ban a bunch of people at once. Which makes it harder to figure out what the new ban criteria was, and to keep people from unplugging their network cables until someone figures out a workaround.
So there was a little randomness in what day they decided to execute the banhammer. It wasn't like the original live where you'd get banned within minutes if you used a hacked console.
For all we know they have a new detection method and have sat on it for 6 months and gathered the data and on a random day we'd have a banwave.
I somewhat doubt this will happen.. as the last method for detection banned legit consoles too, so I think if they resorted to such a touchy method, then they must have already been grasping at straws.

I've checked the error code etc -> banned.
I don't see anyone else with a ban so maybe it's false alarm but the timing could be good for MS as the new dashboard is coming....

I thought on 1.4 as long as you had the security sectors, unstealthed was safe? Or maybe it was the other way around?

Innocent people were getting banned last time because the laser on there 360s were wearing out apparently. No point in buying a new console that the main reason they ban everyone! Think about it. Just before Christmas and an update what can they do to get more people to buy new Xbox's? Oh wait start a ban wave ban innocent people with older 360s and modded 360s and then when they ring up don't tell them why there banned. Fucking greedy microsoft!
Ill just mod every1 elses xbox's

Thats because MS records a bad disc months and months in advance.. they just dont act on it right away.

NXE here, non-preview as well. I played Gears 2 about 3 days before release and with network cable unplugged. Not banned yet though, the only backups I play online are ones ripped myself with my Kreon. Although, last week I did let a friend use his downloaded Far Cry 2 online on my 360. Still, no ban code in my network status yet.

You can't group everyone together. Many people here who use backups own every game they have a backup of, and those who do otherwise are not welcome here.
Unfortunately, when things like this happen, everyone claims the same thing, and it's that much harder to solve (if the dishonest people are claiming they were honest, then they're remaining dishonest, and can't give accurate facts, etc).
Either way, when you modify your system, you know it could be banned; we've been spoiled by having XBL accessibility, and everyone thinks they should have the best of both worlds. I just hope MS isn't banning consoles on a "maybe" again (last time it resulted in numerous unjust bans).

Got a call from a guy I just modded his benQ (iExtreme 1.41) a few weeks ago and he was banned today (11/10/2008). He was playing the Gears 2 release from 360inT and did not run Mulleter on the iso before burning it (if you run the Mulleter fix against it, it will patch it). He was also playing G2 well before release date while unplugged from xbox live.
I'll report any more bans that I hear of and try to put as much info in as possible.

1.4 firmware and no clue what my drive is. I have always been smart about playing unreleased games on my memory stick without the internet or HD plugged in and I always check my iso files with mulleter.

Soma games have the ss.bin from another game, the firmware cannot check that and boots the game...

3 other friends same drive/fw, not banned.
Played tons of backups connected to live, though never played a game not recognized by Mulleter or abgx360 database. Only used backups once said software either verified game, approved ss, or patched isos. Unverified games have never touched my box.
Have not played GOW2, COD5, or any of the games released in the past two weeks. I have never played a game pre street date.
This criteria applies to 3 friends' boxes also.
I'm hoping to duck dive this second wave.

I think people do it, in case they got lucky and microsoft didn't catch them in the act. Some people just seem to avoid getting banned. Every banwave they'res people who surivived. So I guess you unplug it, in cause you got lucky, you didn't get banned, and you want to hold off until someone figures out what the new criteria for banning is.

Benq elite ixtreme 1.41 never had any other firmware flashed to drive
played nearly all pre release titles GoW 2 Fallout 3 Cod.Waw etc etc
ms28 1.4 ixtreme not banned again never had any other firmware flashed
done the same with fallout 3 Gow and Cod and was really expecting this one to be banned
however strange thing is the ip address was not given for some reason and I have to reboot my router and it connected, this didnt happen with the Benq.
If either of mine get banned I will report back just cross me fingers...

You don't need to spoof if you are using the drive that came with your console...
You use the spoof when your original drive breaks and you have to get one that is from another brand, to make it look like it was the one that came with your console.

It is a Lite-on drive which i replaced with a ms28 with ixtreme 1.4 don't know if its banned or not.

Any time you play even one backup on a console (even offline), you risk being banned from live on that console.
BTW, anyone know how to check to see if a game has the proper SS and not one from a different game?
I don't think MS can ban you if you use a retail disc from a game that has not been released due to store error, or an employee that does not care about the release date. After all, it's not your fault.

I was under the impression that playing backups offline was safe? I only ever connect to Live to grab DLC, even then only for Oblivion and Blue Dragon, the rest of the time I am always offline. Though I did go on Live to download patches for a few games. So this is not the case? I would hate to lose the option of DLC, not to mention patches.

Yes, there have been some bans, as I'm sure you're all aware. The usual procedure has taken place, and live logs have been created. What this means is c4eva has recorded the information which travels between Xbox Live and your Xbox 360's DVD drive. This tells us which checks Microsoft have been performing.

Now I'm sure most people won't understand the above, but c4eva has confirmed that there are no changes in the checks performed by MS. This has left most people speculating that the reason people are being banned is for playing bad ISO files, specifically the Seed4Me review copies.
So what to do now? Well I would reccommend playing only original retail games, or games which you know are 100% verified and stealthed - as always. But be extremely careful. Anyone who is reading this, and has been banned, please post either here or in TheGRiM's thread, which games you have been playing recently, specifically seed4me releases.
I will keep this thread updated with information on the bans.

If your downloading game patches you must be loading the game whilst online. The game checks are made when the game loads so im afraid your as good as playing online.
There is no way around that. In all likelyhood unless there is a low probablity of returning a bad SS result 1 time online with a particular copy is as good as a thousand. Id imagine it needs 2 or 3 instances of bad resonces before live trips a ban but who knows.
So far so good really as it means nothings changed. Dodgy torrent images are too risky.
What would be really cool is some form of downloadable patches database you could stick on a USB stick and patch the games that way.

You're not helping saying your just been banned... To bad for you, it's true.
But if you want to help, you need to share all your info/profile, not the M$ lame codes, like:
- your actual firmware version (and previous, if any)
- if you play pre-releases (which one?)
- if you played non-retail copies (which one?)
- if you go online for your bks (just because your too lazy to do it yourself, of course)
- if you check (our double check) SS/ISO (tools?)
- media/method/burner used
- disc verification (after burning)
- anything else you find relevant
I'm pretty sure I'm not banned. But, after modding, you never know...
And... Know one knows if MS it self couldn't have seeded a bad copy of some game, on purpose. I smell something fishy about the GoW2 and FallOut3 early releases...

i have the oldest firm as i failed at trying to update it tryed 2 of my pc's with sata i think i have a wrong chipset and they cant boot from flashdrive anyways! my console ive had it for over 2 years always play online the past year though with the ban scare i set my played games to only friends can see and the past 6 months i dont play games online or save anyway before release dates !
and whenever there is a scare i clear my cache like i did today i checked my live status all cool so i have just tryed my own kreon rip of saints row 2 and suprise works fine online it did ask me to update because i cleared cache i was shitting myself but all was cool thank god
i have gow2 allstars version havnt been online with it yet dont know wether
i should it is meant to be fully stealthed and retail i played it early but didnt save or log on my account i also have a version of cod5 i wanted to try but running it through abgx it says bad kreon for lower firm than 1.4 and same with mirrors edge anyone confirm playing these i have seen alot of forums saying these r the games to watch and to be honest i think i-extreme 1.4 isnt as safe as everyone makes out am confued.

Even if you don't save, there are logs that are saved internally, not on a hard drive or mem unit.

It would be more helpful if people could just post the information I have instead of trying to speculate why the ban wave has commenced. From what I have been reading people are assuming it is the seed4me releases that is causing the ban wave but judging from my own experience this may not be the case.

Why Game Consoles Are Sold At A Loss
Game companies use the old "Shaving Razor" business model (sell a full razor cheap, replacement blades expensive). It's much like when I was 14 working at a movie theater... the theater made practically zero money from ticket sales which all went to the movie distributors. I only copy my games so the originals stay safe. I don't mind spending $1.50 on a new DVD-R DL as compared to $60 for another copy of a game that got ruined. Anyone remember the issue of 360's that were scratching discs because the console got slightly bumped.
As for the Movie Theatre, I sneak my own food in because the Theatre does not accommodate my heath needs (unsalted, unbuttered popcorn)

I only copy my games so the originals stay safe. I don't mind spending $1.50 on a new DVD-R DL as compared to $60 for another copy of a game that got ruined. Anyone remember the issue of 360's that were scratching discs because the console got slightly bumped.
As for the Movie Theatre, I sneak my own food in because the Theatre does not accommodate my heath needs (unsalted, unbuttered popcorn)
A perfect example. I'm not saying there's anything really wrong with that, I'm simply saying don't be pissed when the theater staff kick you out with no refund when they catch you cause you knew what you were doing was against the rules.

before ever turning it on, I've flashed it with iXtreme 1.4 later updated to iXtreme 1.41 8x speed
I only use scene releases which are verified in mulleter or abgx360 or self made backups which are created with a samsung drive and 0800 firmware.

He plays the same games as I do and is also Not Banned (yet?)
I personally think it has to do with crappy (pre)releases
