Title: Method To Not Get Banned On Live - Opinions?
Post by: xess on March 29, 2008, 05:42:00 PM
Go ahead and try it, report back if you recieve a ban. No one knows how ms detects the modified consoles, and I think there is speculation your safe as long as you don't connect to Live with a back up in the disc tray. As I said tho, no one really knows so you are always running the risk.

Wait, say if I play all my backups offline on a modified console. Then if I put the harddrive onto my unmodded console and go on live, will I get banned?

No, it is only the console that gets banned. You can take a hdd from a banned console and use it on another one. With that said, it kind of flaws the original posters theory...

How do you avoid this happening, do you have to use stealth backups? I was aware that M$oft track what you have done even when offline. But if I'm playing original backups on an unmodded system and just happen to have some saves from a backup on my harddrive - it will still get my console banned? Seems weird since I wouldn't even be using the saves or anything?

You misunderstood me, you won't get a ban on an unmodified console. Even if the hdd has been used on a modified/banned system, you can still use the same hdd on an unmodified one and go on Live without any problems.
It is only the console that recieves the ban, not the GT or hdd.

You can not get banned from a backup game's game save.  A game save is nothing more than data telling the game what location you are at in a game, it stores no specific information about the disc, come on people think about it.  M$ is checking your discs not your game saves, and obviously not the firmware since no one seems to get banned unless they are playing a backup on live.

As I said in my first post, nobody knows yet how ms detects modified consoles and as long as you are connected to Live you are running a risk. To say it is "obviously not the firmware" is grossely naieve.

And as for not getting banned from a gamesave... that is never an issue because that obviously goes with being able to use the hdd from a banned system on an unmodded console without any problems!
