Xbox LIVE Still Experiencing Issues *Update4: Broken again*Posted by XanTium | December 28 23:21 EST | News Category: Xbox360 |
| |
Since December 21st Microsoft has been having on-off issues with their Xbox LIVE service. After the long xmas weekend the problem was said to be solved, but it seems that LIVE's 'Intermittent Issues' are back again. Currently they updated their support page with this message:
Users may experience intermittent issues logging onto Xbox Live. Our engineers are continuing to investigate and are working to resolve this issue. We apologize for any inconvenience.
There also news on Major Nelson's website and Twitter:
You may have noticed that the LIVE service has been having a few issues over the past few days. This includes things like signing in, matchmaking and account recovery. Not everyone has had problems, but I know some of you have and I wanted to give you and update. While the service was never completely offline, problems like this are not acceptable. The entire LIVE team has been working day and night to ensure that you can have a great LIVE experience. While we're not done yet, I wanted to let you know that things are getting better each hour and that no one on the team is going anywhere until the job is done. Thanks for your patience.
Twitter (newest msgs first): * I don't have an ETA on things getting better since things are happening really fast. Some things (NOT ALL) are already fixed and working. * Hey folks, we know some of you are having problems. We're working on them.
*Update* I updated the above info with the latest LIVE status message and new MN's Twitter messages. It's seems to be mostly solved now, but still some problems apparently. *Update2* Added MN news post. *Update3* Problems seems to be solved ... for now. *Update4* New Problems lol (twitter and status messages above updated)
Too many people bought an Xbox 360 for Christmas? lol

-
Some people were saying that they will give away copies of viva pinata for the bad experiences... i don't know what you have to do to get qualified for that yet though
-
I haven't had time to turn on my 360 in weeks, but what's the deal? If it's just getting hit hard with traffic, surely they would have simply stated that by now. But it appears to be more. Much more....
-
I love how he says
"Just because it is the holidays does NOT mean the Operations Team is not working hard....
* the issues are being worked on,"
lol.
Then it follows up by.
I'll update when I get back.
LOL, sounds like someone is leaving for vacation.
nice to know how important this is to them.
-
yeah... COD4 has been a nightmare to play online... it goes in and out
lets hope they fix it soon and perhaps give a free month for the inconveniance
-
Download speeds are absolute garbage too. I used to be able to download a 1GB demo off XBL in about 30 minutes, the other day the GH3 demo (543MB or so) took me about 3 or 4 hours.
-
I can't imagine what kind of complicated setup Live has so I guess problems are to be expected. However, it's a shame that this pay for service is performing worse than the free ones.
If this is related to the fact that so many new Live members are joining I can't believe they don't have the foresight to prepare for the influx.. Leave it to MS to try and do the bare minimum and just get by until it breaks.
Doesn't effect or matter to me because I'm banned and am enjoying my PS3 now.
-
I have been trying to redeem my free 500 points from the giveaway but all my blades (except Media) just show the spinny login icon.
GRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Grr
Talk about giving the new Xbox owners a bad first impression. Especially on a weekend!!!!!
-
lots of disconnects and network errors on CoD4. kinda lame really.

yes, but the next 2 quotes correct it ... so I decided to correct the sentence in the quote on x-s to make it less confusing lol.
-
...and god forbid they ever offer some sort of compensation for not allowing people to play their system the way they want to.
They go on and on about how great live is, but the more and more I played COD4 the more and more annoying it was. I haven't played in weeks, yet I'm paying for the shitty services they "offer."
-
Another problem they are having is I've been trying for 2 days now to recover my gamer tag,Keeps saying live signup is down try again later.

This is starting to get ridiculous. The problems have been on/off since before xmas. I think its finally time to call in and bitch and get a free month for this. We pay for this service, and it's taking forever to fix. I could understand if it were a free service, like on PS3, but it's not.

I just got a 360 for xmas. It is an impressive machine, but I gotta say... I do IT/tech stuff for a living, and the problems I had getting signed up for live nearly had me returning the damn thing. First, it reported FAILURE on the MTU part of the network tests. Clicking on "Show details" brought up a fookin completely blank screen. Leafing through all of the stuff that came with it didn't mention a single thing about MTU.
OK, so Googling revealed that I needed the NIC on the PC to be set to a minimum of 1364, and it was at 1300 (2 nics, ICS, no router). Diagnosed and fixed that no problem. No thanks to xbox.com, or the 360 itself. Next, it got all the way down to the "Xbox Live" test, and guess what - FAILURE. Again, no reason given. I just ran the test again, and it passed.
Next came the process of actually signing up during this madness - retry after retry when seeing the "could not connect to the Xbox Live service". I'm telling you, if I weren't used to dealing with tech problems, I'd have smashed the thing against the wall. I'm still seeing the spinny progress indicator for several minutes at a time on most screens - happens every hour or so. This is DEFINITELY not a good time for XBL problems, when so many people are just firing up their xmas 360 for the first time - especially when the machine itself already has a bad reputation from so many problems in the past. 9x out of 10, people (especially n00bs) will interpret the Xbox Live problems as just "My Xbox doesn't work" - especially when the unit's error report is vague or missing completely.

Why did you set your MTU to 1300 in the first place? The default value for an Ethernet connection is 1500....

That implies that the PSN is rubbish. People would be quite surprised. A lot of comments are based on the old PS2 offering but this time round the service is good. No issues over Xmas for me at all. In fact if XBL is down I simply hit Fifa 08 online on the PS3
It may be touted as crap but it is the free service that is currently working well.
Come on MS get your act together. I have just signed back up for live and so far have got no playing hours from it due to issues at your end. new 360 owners will be distinctly unimpressed

I tried to download the GoW hidden front map and got the dreaded bs This item is not available from your current location plus I'm also getting it with the NEW Kingdom Under Fire: Circle of Doom Demo...
WTF??? Whats the point of buying a game if you cannot download additional content because MS sayz..."This item is not available from your current location. Microsoft keeps dropping the ball on this issue
Complete bs, I tells ya....PSN, here I come
Oh come on, I know its a pain but theres no need to go on like a 3 year old about it, in 5 years xbl has been down a handfull of occasions. PSN is no where near as refined as xbl. Stop crying about it. It wont be long before its back up.

The point is, you're paying $50 a year (or 3 months equivalent) for a "premium" service. I wouldn't call a premium service "premium" if every other time I tried to log on, it shits itself and doesn't let me log on.
Also, yes, there hasn't been many problems in the past, but it seems as if the more accounts that are made from new users, the more frequent these problems are occurring. Microsoft should have planned well in advance for the holiday period, where a much larger influx of accounts are attempting to sign on, especially since most of everyone's off for the holidays.
So far, their record has been terrible... First, widespread hardware issues... Then issues with the halo 3 legendary edition set, with the games being scratched... now, issues with their Live service. They keep digging themselves a deeper hole..
-
They may be digging a whole more and more, but people keep on supporting/buying the products, so if you really want to do something about this, go sonys way, the more that go that way, the more widespread it will turn out to be in the future.
But, everyone will keep supporting a company that just $&48 on you.

PSN has one big advantage right now and over the Xmas period. It's working.
The odd outage is acceptable. this has gone on with live issues for over a week now.
Doesn't matter to me I have both consoles but some of these guys will have got live for Xmas or whatever and are unable to use it.
-
for its cost, over a 1 year period... for most ppl xboxlive is peanuts!!!! and well worth the cost..
i have owned all 3 of the top consoles, and the only one i never sold on ebay was my Elite...
live problems are few and far between-ok,over xmas its been unacceptable and very frustrating..and luckily doesnt happen very often. when its up and running,it has the best online service for any console in the past and now and for the future.. FACT!! MS will get their act together and fix these problems ,and us gamers will forget it ever happended, coz we will have our heads burried in cod4

i have experienced the ps3,wii and of course the 360.... IMO...
xbox360 is way,way,way out in front,by a long mile!!!!!
ps3 online service is only JUST better than the ps2 is/was!
and the wii is a good effort, for Nintendo's first online console..
this all contributed in me selling the ps3/wii.... out of all my family and friends, only 1 of my family members is a Sony fanboy, the resy are 360.... but there's a long way to go yet,but im happy with my choice-very

Hello Fellow Gamers. Nobody's perfect. Meaning that the Xblive isn't perfect. It's the BEST online console service, but it's not perfect. As soon as they have a little problem, you all b1tch @ moan like little children
(hhhmmm... you might be little children)
. So give them a little slack people.
We have a service that has; online movies, Tv shows, carttoons/anime, multiplayer gaming, voice/video/text (messaging & chat) etc.. The other companies wish they had the features & service that Xblive & M$ have brought to the gaming industry. I for one am very glad they did. for 5 years the Xblive service has grown & will continue to evolve to be even better. SONY & Nintendo are trying to play catchup with 5 years of online gaming that M$ has established. That's not going to be easy.
They (Sony, Nintendo) need to have their structure similar to Xblive. Like; unified logon for every user, ability to chat (via voice/video/text) in any game @ any time to anyone online. etc.. I'm not going to list every feature, but you get the picture (understand).
As of right now 12:28 EST 12/29/2007 The Xblive service is doing great. So enjoy it.

It'll be fixed eventually, just calm down. Many of you are whining like 6 year olds on Halo. Remember: M$ could, if they wanted, just pull the plug on Live. So what if you lost 400xp or whatever? Earn it again, and it should be much easier the 2nd time around. Just wait it out and everything will be back to normal.

i'm sorry but that makes no sense what so ever. 'ms can pull the plug on live if they wanted to'? lol no...actually they cant. millions of users have spent their hard earn money on LIVE, if they were to 'pull the plug' then they'll have a whole different problem, lol a much worse one. so no, us users shouldn't be told to 'wait patiently and we have no right in complaining'.
Now that we got that out of the way, the truth is that for us LIVE users the hard reality is that there isn't much we CAN do.... However, if this does continue for a few more days i do believe M$ should come out with a formal apology to its users, to atleast keep us at bay, lol. Hopefully this gets sorted out sooner than later because connecting to COD4 online has raised my blood pressure every night

In all fairness, I am glad it isnt just me, my account is ok... My new 360 doesnt have to go back to the store, my router is working ok etc etc
Things break. LIVE has done well to be as stable as it has been, and microsoft have the technology - they can rebuild it!
Have patience. Some poor bastards might be takin their xbox 360 back to the store to have a moan. But if they cant understand networking and computers and how they often break at peak times - I dont want to frag their asses on COD4... Id rather let them play scrabble in front of the fireplace. whats up all. ive been having problems too. at boot up, i sign in to live just fine. but when i put in a game, it disconnects from live. i have to sign in again. if i exit the game, it signs in again automatically. weird. sometimes it just signs in and out a few times in a row.
for a few weeks now it always says 'cant sign into messenger.' oh well. i was glad to read its a problem because at first, i thought i was getting banned
-
Ok, so maybe they deserve (given their track record with live at least) a little slack.....
However, im sure our reaction will dictate how they handle issues in the future. Like the one guy said, in the TOA it states we aren't entitled to anything if we have problems (which IMO is garbage) with a service that we pay for. Sounds like Vista.
Microsoft owns (generally speaking) the computer industry and are starting to take over the video game industry. They are introducing patented technology into certain vehicles. I think i read on here once that they had bought a company that specializes in producing television sets (or something to that effect).
Its clear that they are becoming more active in fields other than just computer electronics and software. But, what happens when they throw their endless abundance of money into those fields? Will we in our lifetime see the first Microsoft car or TV? And when everything has a microsoft stamp on it, and it fails, will we be screwed out of compensation due to the TOA we were forced to agree with due to lack of choice? Im sure when they achieve their empirehood, this is the way it will be....
Trying to recover my gamertag last night was a pain, and i sympathize with the guy who couldnt recover it fully to have the ability to play games offline. After reading a little bit, i saw that it is a windows live, xbox live, and zune problem.....all the eggs are in one basket so to speak. After i googled the error code my 360 gave me when i wasnt able to retreive my gamertag, i saw that it is also used for windows live messenger when you cant sign in. Sound familiar?
This has been happening for a week now. Its still not fixed. If they had it fixed tonight, id expect at least a free week of live. Im in the IT feild as well and i know servers crash. It happens. Why dont they just throw their money at it like they did with the 360 hardware failures? Anyone remember them trying to downplay that until too many people had the same issue and came forward with it? I dont want to be in the microsoft car when the servers go down....
When dealing with a company like microsoft, its important to remember that the past is a blueprint of the future and reaction dictates action (and visa versa), otherwise well be sol due to the TOA...im done ranting

Yep, section 16 of the Terms of Use, you have to accept the service as is. In reality the service isn't expensive. Lets say if you service was out since the 21st compleatly, it comes to about $1.09 lost. Hell, I've spent more on a shitty tasting coffee, thrown it out just to buy another one from the same coffee shop a few hours later, all with out phoning a 1-800 number to complain, and bitching about it on the internet.

The bit in bold is just your cheap shot. A poor attempt at a pop at site policy.
Your second point . You are not in a position to give experienced constructive criticism. You don't have a PS3 and have not played online with it

Exactly you don't know. You listen to internet rumour and here say and spread it round. You don't play the PS3 on it regularly because it doesn't have the issues you just listed.
I have both and yes the XBL is the better service for the the sheer features and content (I don't use many of them. I go on live to play against someone. Not chat to someone else whilst I am gaming against another person) The downloadable stuff on live is vast compared to Sonys offering but the fact is the PS3 has a good service to simply connect and play COD4 or whatever. I have experienced no problems when using it for this purpose.

MS is too busy trying to get their ban hammers working correctly (so they can ban all the evil modders) and not paying attention to the systems they should be. I know this is just coincidence but didn't all these XBL issues start around the time of this last ban wave? I really don't do much of any online gaming with any of the consoles, but what is so much better about XBL then the PSN? For those who've used both, is XBL really that much better that it deserves $4 or $5 a month?

I have both. Live has some fundamental features that are missing on PSN. In a nutshelf on live you are always connected with your friends no matter what you are doing, you can always see what they are doing. So you can chat away even whilst playing different games, send voice or text messages, send game invites for firends to join etc. If an invite is accepted the player joins in seamlesley.
The huge thing here is that it is universal and STANDARD including Voice, thus works the same across all games and is always fully supported no matter how crap or hot the game is. Xbox essentially is a multitasking machine always running these services in the background, whereas the PS3 is just like consoles of old (or DOS on PC) - where once you load up a game you are pretty much stuck in there, everything else shuts down and becomes unavailable. If you want to invite a friend to a game or just communicate - you need to call them on the phone! IN THE YEAR 2008 !!!!??? pathetic.
These simple things pretty much make or break the online expereince as far as I'm concerned. The PS3 is a very poor system in this regard, and as such it gathers more and more dust daily as my 360 is where the action is!
Peaople that choose PS3 instead of a 360 are really doing themselves a disservice, and they probably don't even know it.

I never said it was expensive, thats not the F***ing point! clearly they know they have issues and unfortunately a lot of these issues seem to happen around the holidays or on weekends.Lately there have been these issues more frequently from COD4 to this.
Its a service just like the cable company, I am not saying they have to refund a whole month to users , I am just saying that it is the right thing to do as any decent cable provider would.
As for calling to complain, I thought that they would do the right thing and refund the month, plus I can listen to music and watch TV while on the phone.
As for bitching about it on the internet, This forum more specifically this thread is the the proper place to bitch and moan about crappy MS service. If I were posting on DOGWORLD.COM or something I could see your point but since it is in the proper thread on the proper forum, I disagree with your assessment of the situation.
P.S. I don't drink Coffee

Why don't they just come out and admit that Live has been hacked and be done with it....instead of sidestepping the issue with mindless, numbing and senseless techno blabber bs
Dont forget that your reputation is really all you have online, Major Nelson

Yea I would have to say Live has been pretty good. If you also look at it this way paying for live give M$ a reason to fix the service ASAP. Unlike other free networks if they go down I bet it won't be anything like how fast M$ usually fixes live. I mean I can remember M$ is usually on top of it once they know the problem is there. Yea I miss out on a few live games but I always have my PC/DS/Original XBox to keep me busy.

this shit still isn't fixed. i've had live for 4 years and this is the longest running problem, ever. something is seriously wrong with their shit. i wish they would tell us, even though i know they won't.
-
yup, still not working.
it went out yesterday at about this same time; 12pm and didn't start working for me till around 11pm. i got in a few hours till about 4-5 am and crashed out. it's 12 again and live is acting up.
doesn't bother me much though since the problems will get fixed eventually. i can wait.
-
Something is still way wrong with Live. I'm now totally unable to play COD4 online, it just hangs at the downloading game settings screen!
. Also one minute my gamertag is logged on the next its not then it is then it isn't. This is getting very annoying!!.

I haven't really looked on the American xbox site but on the Swedish one it was really simple to find "Connection failed to Xbox LIVE: Failed MTU test" which linked to this: http://support.micro...kb/908882/en-us

No kidding! It looks like Microsoft stuffed Coal in people's Christmas stockings this year instead of goodies.
I'll take 800 points today and if it continues tomorrow, I'll want 1200, then 1600... etc....

i wouldn't call it hackers yet. more like the network tripping out. hackers would have no real reason to attack xbox live on that kind of scale.

Sorry for the cliché I'm going to say,
but I blame the US,
I'm from Belgium and during the day Xbox Live has no problems at all,
but at evening and during the night when all US people wake up,
Xbox Live starts to go from slow to impossible to manage even simple message sending.
Just my two cents on the subject.
I'm probably gonna get flamed for saying that I blame the US.

Yeah... you are going to get flamed. That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard someone say. So it's the users from the US that are at fault for the Live system failing? Was it their responsibility to ensure consistent performance of Live? Were they the ones responsible for building and ensuring scalability of the network?
How about you blame the people that built and maintain the Live system... not the people that use it.
And for the record... Business lesson: Without the US userbase, there would be no Xbox 360, let alone Xbox Live.
-
Yes it's the fault of the US people.
Think a bit logical will ya,
US bigger then Europe,
therefor they have more people,
less people in EU play Xbox Live, when it's day here everyone sleeps in the US,
therefor less people on Xbox Live,
eventually when the people in the US wake up there's an overlapping part where both people in the EU and US are using Xbox Live,

You missed the point completely. This is pay service. If more and more people are going online, it's the responsibility of the company to expand their Live network to accommodate the new customers. Get it? What are we supposed to do under your logic? Forget about Live? Good luck with that.
Anyway, Live's still not fixed, but at least the xbox site says that there "may" be some problems. Before I turned my xbox on, I went to the support site and it said "Up and Running". B.S. I couldn't even send some voice messages to a friend. Call of Duty barely worked for a few games, then crapped out. Halo 3 never worked.
Fine with me... I'll be playing some Super Mario Galaxy tonight, instead.

I get the same thing. I thought it was because of the router at the house I'm at currently (I don't have access to the web interface-- yet it worked at 2am the past 3 nights.. Pacific time).
Now I'm failing at the IP address part of the network test:
W: 0000 - 000B
X: 4000 - 1001
Y: 0000 - 0000
Z: 0000 - 0000
From what I hear, W is the user side connection type (currently wired ntsc console w/ "moderate" NAT) and X is the server side.. So easily blamed on Xbox Live.
-
I know some you are saying this is there first real problem but the truth is LIVE has not been the same since sept 25th when halo 3 came out. It has been down several times since then and even when they give they OK and say everything is working again it just doesn't feel as fast or smooth as it once did. At least in my opinion.

I'd be suprised this is a capacity issue. M$ have too much experience in this area after so many years, not to mention they themselves are vendors of server technologies and monitoring tools.
I say Xbox LIVE has been HACKED and is under some kind of attack, although M$ will never admit to the fact.

Uhm.. last i checked, Sony has sold just about half as many PS3's as 360's.. and they really don't even have a "online" foundation besides the PS Store. There is no way you can even begin to compare the playstation network to the xbox live network.

The ps3 service is awful. I cant even see any diffrence on xbl playing halo 3 and pgr4 anyways.
Let me clarify.. I own more than 1 Xbox 360 so yes I can still get on if I wanted too. But since I've been enjoying the PS3 a lot more lately I have no want/need to connect to Live so these problems don't effect me. Stupid enough to get banned? You don't know my situation and as many people have been banned for doing nothing but playing their system as it was designed to do. Maybe you missed the many threads on the Xbox forums about consoles being banned for no good reason?
Stupid enough to buy a PS3? The PS3 has a lot to offer and exlcusives that the 360 will never see(and vice versa) and here you are saying the PS3 service is awful when it is actually working while the brilliant XBL is having a ton of issues.. Yes XBL has a lot of features that PSN doesn't, but it's getting there and given the same time frame XBL has had to establish itself(5 years) the PSN will eventually match it.
Just because I don't share your same viewpoints doesn't make my comments any less post worthy..

"Here's a hint why sony's online thing isn't down; no one's using it."
I own both the 360 and the PS3, and there is no contest when it comes to the online content. The 360 wins by a longshot.. so please dont even try to make a case that the PS network is even close to better. When they get a surge of 3 million new members in a short period of time like this holiday season.. we'll see if their network holds up. No one is immune to this kind of problem.

I've had xbox live for almost two years now and this is the first time I have had any problems with it at all. Although I think it's bad PR for MS of having theese problems I do also understand that things like this could happen now and then, stop biching on MS as I'm sure they are doing all they can to remedy the situation.
I just have to play more SP and less MP for a few days, not such a big deal. Many people in this thread should need to calm down and perhaps leave their console for a few days and so some IRL stuff instead.

Not sure why so many people are trashing the PSN. It may not be at the capacity of XBL but consider the fact that XBL has been around since 2002. The PSN as it's known now (before Home - Spring '08) has only been around since 2006. Four years of being a paid service vs 1&1/2 of free service...C'mon... Of course the infrastructure will be better and more robust.
I personally have 2 360 Premiums and 1 PS3 80GB.
I have had the PS3 since Nov 06 and did not like the issues regarding multiplayer via Wifi being sluggish and laggy at first, but over the year things have improved and I have not paid a single dollar for it. The 360s I've had for 3 months now and honestly I like XBL for Halo 3, TDU, Ace Combat 6, COD 4 and Madden 08. I've found for the fact that I'm paying 30$ for 13 months...not a bad cost to play but this past month has been flaky and the fact that each profile needs a live account to play online are my only gripes.
So for those that trash PSN, there's no need. It's a free service...it's not going to be as good as a paid service due to money being generated to sustain it. But I think M$ should realize that since they are charging a regular 60$ for 12 months...that more people will complain and issues may occur as a result of poor XBL delays and problems.
XBL
Pros: - Excellent Matchmaking
- Quick speed when working
- More robust feel and interaction
Cons: - Price (Not Free although not too expensive)
- Each profile on teh 360 requires and online Live account to play together vs others on MP
- Problems regarding Lag, account sign in, marketplace DLs (Dec '07)
- M$ points - money making scheme
PSN
Pros:- Free
- Easy matchmaking
- Plenty of good downloads for demos and addons
- Can connect to PSP games and MP thru them.
- Friends can be ported to PSP
Cons:- Laggy at times in certain games
- A little lack lustre in the full content and movie downloads.
- No interaction with a messenger interface
-
what it is, is this is right around x-mas, the time of year a lot of kids/adults take off (24th, 25th off, 4 days of vacation, 30th, 1st, 2nd off for lots of vacation) and this is when they are going to be playing games. its not that anyone doesn't have a life, this is just when they get the chance not to have a life and have fun. and for microsoft to let this happen to them, and not do anything, really says something

This is the first real large scale problem that I have seen Live have in the 3 years I have played on it.
My Comcast service was down for 2 days and they credited me one month worth of service. Microsoft, like the assholes they are, put in their TOS that they wouldn't have to compensate for any downtime so they could fuck us over if they fucked up. That is horrible customer service.

Never underestimate the power of FanBoyism.
Live is down, most likely, as it has been said, because their servers are overloaded. Just about EVERY game these days HAS TO have a Multiplayer mode otherwise the whining ensues.
The ONLY problem I have with PSN is slow downloads. That's about it. I never really have to worry about it being down and there are a LOT of people playing on it. I never have any issues finding people to play games with on either Xbox Live or PSN. So, don't go trashing one for the other. That's just ridiculous fanboy crap.

The matchmaking feature of XBOX Live is far better in every aspect.

Ummm... Last time I checked, XBOX Live has more demos and game addons than the PSN!
Can connect to PSP games and MP thru them.
How many people own a PSP again? lol
Friends can be ported to PSP
See last statement...
One thing you forgot to bring up:
Playstaion Network
If you use it, you will have a root kit installed onto your PS3 and all other local network devices by Sony!
Are you illeterate, or just a hater? Because to retort about him listing "easy matchmaking" as a pro for PSN, and for XBL he lists it as "excellent matchmaking".
Furthermore, asking "who uses the PSP" is like asking "how many people bought an iphone". The PSP is still selling VERY well, and to incorporate interactivity with the PS3 and PSN, makes it even more appealing.

I haven't had too many problems till today. Now when I turn my console on, it just gives me the busy screen as it tries to sign in. I beta tested Live back in '02 and kept it ever since. I have never seen problems like this before.

Yeah. I'm with him^. Ps3 sux but psp is pretty cool.
I really wish XBL would work properly...

If you use it, you will have a root kit installed onto your PS3 and all other local network devices by Sony!
What a load of old crap.

Plenty of good downloads for demos and addons
Ummm... Last time I checked, XBOX Live has more demos and game addons than the PSN!
the guy never said it had more. Simply read his statement.
"Plenty of good downloads" and it has.
I concur with hotknife another hater with incorrect knowledge of the subject you are bashing.
Perhaps instead of discussing the PSN we should discuss the fact that XBL is in trouble over a period when some users get their only holiday of the year.
From my point of view I don't really care about it being down as much as the lack of definitive statement from MS. Just like the old hide behind the hardware fault issue.
Works here sort of until about 5.30pm (GMT) then away it goes again.

the PS network is not down due to the fact that only a handful of people are on it.
Lack of knowledge or just an untruth?

Cons:
- Each profile on teh 360 requires and online Live account to play together vs others on MP
Just sign in the other people as guests and you can play.

I really don't know what point you are trying to make.. are you trying to say that the PS network is just better or what? Ignorant?

Quite easy.
You said the PSN only has "A handful of members"
You either don't know how many are using it or it just suits your argument to lie about it, in order to bash the PSN
Your statement is incorrect.

Does it bother me that xbl is having problem. I would be a fool to say I am not upset. I have been a member since xbox live been out. I wish instead of on and off again service. They would come out and say live will be down for sometime a day or two to fix some issue. Either waty I amj upset that I have to pay 50 bucks a year and the service has run across some issue but other than that I wish people would just be happy they are doing something even it seems to be at snail pace. I will say that in the 5 years I been a memeber of xbl this is really the only time I can think of they have had this big of an issue

They have to be doing something they are not telling us because its not working right once again/still, I keep signing in at the dashboard but the dashboard never loads then its signs me back out again... Oh well.

Holy Smackers. I just got back from vacation... Tried to login and I still couldn't get in. I thought this issue would of been solved by then, but after coming to xbox-scene and reading the forums, I still find they are having issues. Weird.
Just called my friend and he said he's still having issues as well. Should we contact Microsoft (since we are gold members) or is it not worth doing?
