Title: New Member Signup Down?

I just picked up a 360 last night, and I've been trying to sign up for Live.  Whenever I try to register, I get the message "XBox Live signup is currently unavailable.  Please try again later."  Anyone know how long this is usually down?  I can connect to Live, but it won't let me register, and without a gamertag, I'm locked out of everything else.
