Well my account was banned even though my system is untouched completely original. This is after the fact the last few weeks I have been getting read disc errors when starting up games. I have to keep ejecting like 10-20 times before I get the game to start up. So instead of calling Microsoft to get my account unbanned I might as well just return it too costco since it has lifetime warranty.
My question is though I still have 12 months or so left on my xbox live account so can my account still be used on my new xbox or will it be banned again or is it no good at all? I can still login the xbox live website with the account.
I would hate to get a new one and then get instantly banned again when I add my old account.

Only the consoleID, unique to your particular xbox itself is banned. Your account is still good and you can take your hard drive from your current console and move it onto a new console.
I would definitely take it back to costco if I were you.

My friend said it could have possibly been the xbox live subscription I bought from ebay (IMG:style_emoticons/default/uhh.gif)
I'm from Canada and I bought it from a guy in the States so I don't know if thats why I was banned or not ? I don't really see what the difference is between buying a card here and buying one from someone in the states they all come from the same place I would think. I shouldn't be banned for that.
If thats why I was banned then is my account no longer any good for a new xbox ? I would just be banned again if I used that account if thats the case.

They don't ban accounts. They ban consoles. So if I were you, I'd definitely take it back and get a new one and keep the account.
P.S. Could there be any way to change the console ID?

Its unfortunite that many untouched consoles have been banned, but as a standpoint against MS --- CALL BI_ATCH, WHINE and tell them to sent replacement console, and once they receive alot of untouched systems they will have to reconsider the BAN.
Buying a live card from another region will not get you banned, only issue is trying to activate cards as they are region specific so if your console and gamertag is NA, you will not be able to use a UK card, unless account/gamertag is a UK one.
I have come across a few people who only use live to donwload stuff, no mods, never touched, xmas presents and they got banned. They have contacted MS and they are awaiting replacement consoles. A theory maybe that swapped parts/refurbed units are being banned as well ( not original DVD drive ) and we know MS have a crap load of 3 red light systems.
Your account is still good,

No point calling and giving MS a bad time.
Expand on which region marketplace content you signed up.
If you were accessing live content not supposed to be availabe for your region then that is the reason for the ban

Who can confirm this? this seems to be another rumor, the last time M$ talked about secutiry options for downloadable content they never mentioned banning, they said they would restrict the downloads you can VIEW depenging on your real location, which is easily gotten through the IP

Who can confirm any reason for bans. No one can prove anything yet.
Try and think of any other reason a non modded console would be banned.
Mismatched Credit card details. false details signing up etc etc.
Doesn't matter what MS said in the past.
Everyone was convinced they couldn't/wouldn't ban consoles from live for firmware mods/backups. Before the spring update we had posters telling us no way.
Don't think that MS will give everyone 2 weeks notice of ban implications or tell us why

It occured to me that if I were implementing a system, the smart thing to do would be to screw with the logical path that the hackers would need to follow in order to arrive at a solution.
So it would be smart to have criteria that were then decided in batches by human moderators. So that if you allow a number of positives, you destroy the ability to quantify method?
Just a thought.
And another thing I think about MS practices as a company with regards to subversive forums posts etc, I think within this context it's funny, because we all know this is a game, but It makes you wonder what they are prepared to do in other contexts where they're competing against people that aren't ethically in the wrong.
It kind of makes me think it's important not to support them because they don't to have any ethical code.

Not sure I really understand what you mean : /
If your talking about my settings everything is set to Canada I guess I wouldn't set my region as USA. I really don't understand the difference between an american xbox live card and canadian you would think if i get a card at my local store or take an hour drive across the border and pick one up there it would be the same thing, I wouldn't think that would be cause for banning.
I guess after I exchange at costco I should just forget about my old account and start fresh just to be 100% safe and get a card from my local store.
Still sucks I had 12 months left (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

If you gave correct details to enable you to sign up from the region you are in and for the content for that region then they can not have hit you for that.
If that is the case and you have no mods, maybe you dropped unlucky and costco sold you someoen elses return?
-
So frustrating though, cause there is no 100% way to verify this problem. I won't feel safe trying my old account on the new xbox. I will just have to drop the 40 dollars to get a new card and start a new account.

I couldn't agree with you more on that. IMO this time they went too far in the wrong way.
