I see what they want to do. Because M$ passport was a huge flop (no one apart from M$ signed up for it) their gonna try and transfer the success of xbox live and make it a huge LIVE system all interconnected. which means even less security and just plain sucks. Keep the services seprate   if you cant remember more than 1 password you shouldnt have it. Tho this may just be M$'s way to keep the *iaa's happy while tryig to allow as much cross platform media transfer  when they should just be saying "F U IN THE A *iaa's DRM SUCKS so we dont want or need it"

Isn't that the truth...

Anyways, I really can't see myself using XBL (or whatever the cross-platform name would be) outside of the xbox for gaming as I buy most of my media and just call my friends when I need to (not into IM nor chatting).  Of course, I probably don't fit the market profile for the new Live anyways...

I see a bleak and tyranical future for all forms of gaming with microsoft dominating everywhere.  Sony will eventually lose since they have no killer 1st party games, MS will just buy off all of their developers and you can see this already happening with ps3 losing exclusives.  Unlimited money always wins, and MS can dominate any industry it wants just by leveraging it's illegal OS monopoly.

The future of xbox live is a completely locked down and regulated 'online marketplace' where if you so much as sneeze the wrong way it'll cost you marketplace points.  MS isn't missing the boat this time like they missed the boat on the internet explosion.  They understand that the future of console games is ALL about the network.  It's always better to play against/with a human opponent then with the computer (unless maybe you were practicing).  Xbox LIVE will leave all competitiors in the dust since the competition just doesn't seem to GET IT.  In the age of highspeed internet connectivity is key.

Hopefully without getting too much off topic I think the xbox 360 is really MS's ideal picture of a trusted computing platform.  It's a box that is so locked down you can't do anything with it.  You have to work with MS to create applications/games on it.  At least on the pc the development is a little more free.  Microsoft only developed the xbox 360 to make it a portal vending machine that they keep in your living room.

I loved the first xbox for it's hackability, sadly this doesn't seem to be the case with the second xbox.
I agree with you completely.

Down with monopolies.  Linux ftw! sleep.gif

ok..i gotta say this, regardless of how you feel about MS taking over the world...form a shearly businesses perspective, this is brilliant. they own, and they know it. Sony can't deal and neither can nintendo, if mac brought something viable to market they'd stand a chance since they run a seperate OS and dont need to give into MS on certain illegal demands they may make through pushing their OS (unlike Sony, and Nintendo...well..nintendo's been dead to me since they released teh gamecube anyways..)

as far as the future? total integration..the next xbox will be a VOIP hub, iptv settop box, media center PC, and probably have basic PC functionality built in. if you think about it, they're removing the hardware industry from the picture. if MS can make and sell one solid package that does everything you need it to (ie. standard gaming every generation, like a console should have, MS office, internet, communications, etc) built in to one cheap device....they can't be beat. not to mention that w/ the Live initiative they're gonna connect it to your cellphone, your PC (currently, its probably a better idea to keep PCs seperate, unlike i randomly stated above, due to the fact that they make a killing off of windows), and everything else electronic you own.

lets face it, they're brilliant, you gotta give em a hand for that. hell i wouldn't even be surprised if Bill is leaving MS so he can run for president! (<----- sarcasm)

Agreed.
Agreed.

Besides those, IDK. Perhaps something Zune related? Perhaps something cell phone related? An Xbox Live equivalent to the "Myspace" application (carried by Helio and Cingular) would be pretty sick.

a web browser would be nice

a more community feel would be nice, e.g. chat rooms and stuff you can enter from the dash board or just more ways of getting to know more new and exciting people. OR (and this is the one id like to see) ways of filtering people according to area in the world you live NOW that would be brill

+1

I get tired of people bitching and moaning about M$ that it's just plain annoying.  I thought the purpose of business was to do better than your competitor or complete get rid of them.  I mean people bitch about M$ but what about the power companies and companies like Comcast Communications that charge outrageous prices for their services?   blink.gif

That would be good!. I hate it when I have to play people on the other side of the planet and the game is unplayable or the rest of the players have an unfair advantage due to lag. Maybe if I could select games by country or region that would be better.

yep chat rooms with audio, would be a bad idea, and ms are trying to project a safe service for kids. ms would have to bring safeguards for these sort of things, the world we live in.

the only thing i would like is leagues and cups online in games like pro evo. like being able to make a cup competition for an evening or something.

You are right, one MS product will cause itself to spread to other things you own.  The idea of the xbox 360 being interoperable with all the other gadgets you have is great if you like MS products.  If you don't like MS software and buy a 360 in order to take full advantage of it you would have to also , change your cable provider (IPTV), change your cellphone (windows mobile), change your desktop to windows (most already use it), and get rid of vonage or skype (whatever MS voip they create).

Yea i would love to see this sort of thing implemented in the dash area (under a new blade maybe?) it would really hone down on the fact that when you play online you play to win and what better to prove that then with tournaments lol

How about actually being able to see all the pics/themes b4 you purchase them. No longer buy either for that reason. What crap!

you might find this handy

http://dashboardthem...ode=mostpopular

but im with you on this. There should be a preview theme/pics option

Other things that need changing

change Play Game to read Play <insert name of game here>

I paid a stupid amount of money for my 360 camera I want to be able to save more than one gamer pic

an option to show all the free market place downloads. People like freebies they like them even more when they can find them.

and option to sort marketplace downloads by date

more demos - where are the demos? how about a demo friday something new to play each weekend

order 360 faceplates through the market place with user created content on there. If somebody orders your faceplate you get some marketplace points credited to your account.

Stop the achievement cheaters by taking off double the number of points they gain by cheating. Ok it might not be easy to tell but there are some obvious ones eg got all achievements in Oblivion in one day = -2000 points.

encourage xbox live by making developers release more free content like the gears of war multiplayer maps
used in the right way it could increase game sales and xbox live subscriptions. adds value to games

Web browsing (with the option to use several different browsers and not just IE), instant messaging, email would be great too.  It would be nice to be able to sign up for a service on XBL that would send you a message when a new game demo or video came out, or other marketplace items for that matter.  If you could sign up for message lists by genre or category it would be nice and a lot faster than having to check everything manually.  Although not directly linked to Live, I would love to see the Live Vision Camera be able to take video/pictures and save them to your hard drive.

if they allow your pc with vista to connect to live and let you play non-arcade games on live with console owners, i will probably cancel my subscription... how many hacks are out there for pc games such as halo, counter strike source, BF2, etc etc... aim bots, wall hacks and so on...

right now its a pretty fair playing field... no one has a superior gaming rig so you arent really wondering if you are getting less frames per second than people you are playing with... you dont have to wonder if they are getting all of these ridiculous head shots with some computer assisted help...

yeah there are glitches, and thats the closest thing to a cheat so far on 360, but there are also patches to fix those cheats...

all this rambling will probably fall upon deaf ears but i am not looking forward to the day when 360 owners play online with pc owners

OK for all the people who whine and say...."It needs a Web Browser"...

Let me just say one thing....the 360 is awesome, we dont need to add IE to it (because you know ms will only add IE and not firefox) and make it crappier than ever. IE blows and would bog down the 360 as it is. Just quit being so damn lazy and go to your computer!!

I like the idea of keeping my identity (gamertag) uniform throughout all of my entertainment experiences.  The Zune already ties your zunetag in with your gamertag.  I'd imagine that when the zune does games, regardless if its this Zune or a future version, the gamertag and wifi will be tied into the Live Anywhere family.

As for improvements, I'd like the ability to have mulitiple people in a single chat room, including video.  I'd like the ability to set custom away messages as well. It would be nice if the zune could log onto live and retrieve my friends list and messages anytime it entered a wifi hotspot. I'd also like wifi streaming of audio from my zune, although thats not really live related.
