and how are they going to discover your using a hacked firmware? MS spies peaking through your window watching you put a backup in? :jester. if they are banning, it would have to be based on a software detection method, and this wouldn't be small scale. bans will be all or nothing when MS starts, they aren't going to be banning 3 or 4 people for the firmware hack, it would be hundreds if not thousands, and it would be all over the xs forums.

ms - already know about the hack, they know exactly what it does, whey will of downloaded it and flashed it themselfs... they will just be looking for a way to detect it on a mass basis, so they can begin the banning

you DO know that MS loses money on each console they sell and that they make their money from games and accessories right? its in MS's best interests that we don't get a second 360 for the same house, as we wouldn't be buying extra games for it.

thats not true at all. MS has to do everything they can to fight piracy (at least from a political front), otherwise their 3rd party devs will leave them. without good 3rd party support, the system will die. also, don't forget that MS gets money from every 360 game sold, they get licensing fees/royalties from the 3rd party devs, its not a simple case of "capcom made game X so capcom is the only one who gets money from it"

Now for the whole idea of this toppic is absurbed. It's impossible (well not impossable, but deffintal unethical)for M$ to detect that the xbox 360's DVD drive has been moddified. They would have to phisically come to your house and take out the dvd drive to figure out that the firmware has been tampered with.
You say it like MS make $240 profit on every 360. MS only make actual profit on the games and accesories. The money they get for the console does not even cover their costs. So either I've completely misunderstood your point or you completely misunderstand the basic fundamentals of profit and loss.
The point about the firmware is that no one knows. The people who probably know best are the people writing the firmware and hardcore techies who know the 360 and I don't think even they know for sure. It's true MS may not see it as a problem worth bothering with until it gets widespread but you can't say it's not possible.

Your point of view is seriously flawed. MS loses money on every console they make. For instance, lets say it costs $300 to produce each Xbox 360 core console, now MS can't sell it to walmart for $300 cause walmart wont sell it for no profit. So MS sells the console to walmart for $225. This enables walmart to sell the console for a $75 dollar profit. But how does that work out for MS? They take a $75 loss per console. They have to make that money up in accessories, games, xbox live. They do this because they want market saturation, more people will buy the console if it is cheaper. And since it does most people no good to have a console without accessories and games, they make the money back up on games.
Example
1. 1 guy owns 10 consoles
2. 10 people each own 1 console
Which is better? #2 is better, the 10 people are going to buy far more accessories and games than the 1 guy. MS sold the same amount of consoles, but made more money in #2

If you piss enough people off they will report you. Enough reports and you are going to get a ban.
If its not that its mistake which will get sorted. Your blood pressure is way too high over something that can be sorted out easily if its an error.

Did you happen to purchase your XBL account from cookiesrus? He was selling XBL accounts + M$ points in the b/s/t a couple weeks ago. Those accounts were created with stolen credit cards & M$ knows about them.
