I've been thinking for a while to do the $10 change your gamertag name thing for a while because I never really liked the GT I first picked, and I've just been worrying about one thing - if I changed it, could I still continue to use my GT on the original Xbox1? I don't mind if I have to do the Account Recovery or whatever.

yes... and no. Just "recover gemertag" and you're good to go. When you boot up your old xbox after new gamertag, it should say 'could not connect to xbox live" this is normal, just have that credit card ready.

But in the end after doing that it'll work fine and be able to play Live games on Xbox1?

Yes. If you're under 18 on the other hand, no. I belive that option has to be enabled... not sure.
