Title: Synchronising 2 Xboxes
Post by: abit late on October 14, 2004, 06:40:00 AM
Hello Folks

I have just put an X3 in my 2nd xbox which lives in another room. I often want the same music playing in both rooms.

Can anyone suggest how this might be achieved? Its not practical to connect the two amps; the sound has to come from 2 xboxes both running XBMC and hooked up to a PC where the tunes are.

I don't think 2 instances of the webserver running on the PC will work. Is there a way of streaming from the PC in the same way as a webradio? Short of starting a radio station I don't know how, but if poss the stream could be modified and controlled by the PC and the 2 xboxes will be synced.

Maybe XBMC has another window of opportunity to achieve this that I am not aware of, any thoughts anyone?

set up a streamcast from the PC.  then use WebRadio on XBMC to tune in.

You could run into buffering issues if you do that, especially if you can hear the music being played in both rooms.

For example, I have 2 of my XBOX's upstairs. They both autoplay the same shoutcast stream when they are turned on, but the music is out of sync, giving you an echo effect.

Haven't tried changing the cache settings, I wonder if they were set to 0 if it would play in sync, especially since he'd be on a LAN.

i know this isnt the advice you want to hear but you could always have one box playing the song you want but before your amp split the signal...hell split the video too...thats actualy i did....and it work great!!! plus my contollers are all wireless so i can actualy play the bedrom box in the living room and vise versa...just an idea...oh and i used channel selectors so i can at any given moment flip either tv to the other box...this always amazes the company....hope this helped
