This is a silly question, but have you set the jumper on the new hdd to master? I think this is right, the DVD is normally a slave.
The only other thing I thought I read a thread about was some incompatibility of the M8 with larger hard drives? But I could be talking outta my a$$ !! hehe
Good luck.

PS - If you wanted to upgrade to an Xecuter 3, this feature is inbuilt and (literllally) takes like 5 minutes to do - including fitting and formatting-top util)

You probably did this but ?? IDE cables all in OK... Power plugged in ? No shit molex splitters with loose connectors... Actually has power to hdd ? All other plugs for everything else plugged in ?? (I think if a fan or something isn't working it fails to boot - ?????) You don't have any other auxillary stuff split from the power molex connector into the power of hdd.....
Just cover more basics at the moment.....

Is there any possibility I have a bad (new) hdd? I bought it from best buy but I don't have a computer I can try it in. What would a bad hdd do anyway? by the way any other ideas?

LOOK.... I'd say if the hdd is new ?? it should be ok....not having a pc to try it in makes it harder...But since you say you have not even got a dvd working...are you sure the IDE cable is not inserted in reverse? ie....the master is the slave and the slave is the master??? I know its a long shot and you really can only do that if the hdd is out of tray as length isn't there to do it fitted...
