Title: Xbox 360 Penny Fix Tutorial(brian's Method)
Post by: the360company on April 07, 2008, 08:41:00 PM
this tutorial is about fixing the error code 0102, and who knows may fix others but i havent had the time to try it on other 360's. but the thing is this costs less than the x clamp replacement fix and you dont have to go out and get parts.

DISCLAMER: I am not responsible if you snap or break anything thing while trying this fix. you are doing this at your own risk and it should be done as a last resort.

parts list.
eletrical tape
12 pennys
twesers
small nife
torx 8 and 10( can be found at harbor freight)
small allern rench

[part 1]
If you already have your 360 apart go directly to [part 3]. Taking apart the xbox 360. to start remove all of the plugs from the back, and the hard drive/memory card if you have not already done so. then remove the front faceplate. it just snaps off. then remove your xbox 360 sticker thats located under the faceplate. once removed your warranty is void so you cannot have it repaired for free anymore, so make sure you really want to do this. next use a very small allen rench to click the little tabs that hold down the grates on each end of the xbox 360. they will be located like this.

(                                                    )

once you have both of the grates removed you take the small nife and push the pins located on the back of the xbox 360. once all of them are pushed in your xbox 360 should be open half of the way. then go to the front and un do the clips on the front. Now grab your torx scrw drive and remove the silver screws that hold on the other side of the case. once all of them are removed the other side of the case should just come off.  i believe there are 6 screws total. then you have your xbox 360 dismantled far enough to go to the next step.

[part 2]
getting to the chips

you should have your xbox 360 taken apart now to the metal casing.Unplug the cords from the back of the dvd drive and pull that out, and place it to the side carefully. Then  remove the white fan shroud carefully( it has a small clip). with that placed to the side you should unplug the stock fans. then lift up on the metal holding the stock fans down and slide them out.Now turn the metal casing upside down so that the screws are at the top. now use your torx screwdriver to take all of the screws off the back. you will need to remove all of the screws on the sides and the black ones in the middle. and yes they are different size torx. once all of the screws are out you should be able to remove the motherboard without problem. if it dosent want to come out check and make sure that all of the screws are removed. now you can continue to part 3

[part 3]
making the penny stacks

now with your xbox 360 totally take apart you will need your tape and your pennys. Put the pennys in a stack of 3 and wrap a piece of the tape around them in one direction around once. then wrap tape around it in the other direction once. it should look like a square and there shouldnt be any penny showing. do not use too much tape as it will make it too thick. repeat this until you have 4 stacks of pennys. then go to part 4

[part 4]
applying the stacks

now with your stacks made turn your xbox 360 motherboard over so that can see the 4 chips on the back and the little double sided tape on them. these are where you are going to apply the penny stacks. remove the double sided tape 1 by 1. removing the tape with a tweaser or your fingers so that its sticky on both sides. personally i roll it into a little ball and place back on the chip in the middle. then place the stack of pennys on it and squish it down a little. repeat until you have all stacks of pennys placed on. now go to part 5

[part 5]
putting the xbox 360 back together

now once all the stacks are applied to the xbox 360 you should carefully put the motherboard back into the metal casing. making sure a stack dosent fall off. if one falls off just put it back on. then its time to put the screws back in. start with the ones on the edges of the metal casing. only tightning a little and then moving onto the next screw. once all of them are in a little tighten them in more and more. and yes the motherboard will bend, but not snap. now put a little pressure on the heatsinks and put in 1 of the black screws. once it is in a little move on the another screw. until all of the screws are in, agian slowly tighten them until all are tight. now the tricky part on to part 6

[part 6]
getting it just right

do not put your xbox 360 fully back into t he case yet. now you are going to plug your fans back in and put ur shroud back on. and the dvd drive. and u can put the half case back on. then you are going to have to adjust the screws bit by bit until you get no rrod.  may seem like its inpossible but belive me its possible. and your rrod can change during this proccess of tightning the screws. but once they are just right it should give u green lights. then just put everything back the same way it was before. snap the case on and the faceplate and u should be good to go.

i hope this thread helps people fix their xbox 360 that has broken and is out of warranty. but this should be done only as a last option and u should always send your 360 in if it is under warranty.

if this thread has helped you id like for you to post a comment. or if you have any suggestions/questions
