My drive messed up a while back started saying the un-playable disc crap. then it just went to "open tray" even when there was a cd in there.Well I got a replacement laser (not just the laser but the whole asembly) but they didn't give me a ribbon for the laser so I just put my old ribbon cable in its place and it said the same thing "open tray" so I started thinking of what it was and when I took the laser apart I noticed the ribbon cable was flaking off. and I noticed when the cable was wiggled it responded in lots of different ways.
Cause see the original problem with my drive was it stopped spinning the discs entirely. But when the cable was moved the laser shut off but the disc started spinning.
I know they are cheap cables but was also wondering if there are any other electronics with the same cable.
I have checked about a dozen of my spare parts which include dvd players, computer rom drives home stereos, other brands of consoles.. I noticed its a 60W 13pin ribbon and everything else seems to have either 10 or 11 or even 19.
Anyway my guess is I have to find a ribbon just for the 360 lense.
Just thought I would add this may be something to check! as they are REALLY easy to flake off and ruin. so if you have ever tried to fix your drive might be worth checking or getting a new laser cable.
