Hi
Right, i picked up an xbox 360 REALLY cheap of someone, It had E74, Now i thought i'ed get it, try to fix it, if not i'll sell it...
Welli manage to fix the E74 but as soon as i turn of the 360 it goes back to the error, Now to fix it i just cover the fans at the back for a short period of time, turn off, leave for 20mins or so and turn it on and it works great. I havent done the xclamp fix yet as i got it about 3 hours ago (and ofcourse everything is closed!!)
I gathered, that its to do with the GPU as get it a lil warmer and it boots, So main Qeustion is, is will the Xclamp change improve the chances of a permanent fix (not permanent, but close as) ?
And Two, is there anything else i could try, attemp ?
Regards
Dan

i read and watched many videos where people heated up the box in that manner. i am no expert on the situation but would not recommend it to anyone. To me that method does not seem like a fix but an attempt to hide the true problem for a short period.
Anyhow, I had luck with one of the xclamp fixes i think it was written by law and can be easily found on this site. All the parts needed where purchased at LOWES hardware with the exception of the thermal compound which i got at RadioShack.
The fix worked for my box flawlessly for six or so months but then it started to freeze up and eventually did it again. Since it is one of the recommended fixes by most I try to duplicate it a second time/even adding in my own little know how here and there, basically trying anything i could think of to change my status. In my case i believe my gpu is either completely shot or it needs to be desoldered and soldered on again.
So my recommendation is if you are planning on popping this box open to do the xclamp fix then seriously look for some good cooling replacement/alternatives methods also. I dont know how the fix has worked for everyone else but i think the life of my box could have been extended if i had added in of the cooling tips.
Then again it could be my lack of know-how and someone here could probably get this MB of my working with no problem.

Hi
Ok, thanks, i dont heat it over much, but when the xbox actualy loads up, if i put in a game, like halo3, let it load and sit, i can then take the game out shut it down, leave it to cool and it will work when next switched on! So i heat it to an extent the consal seems to heat it to!
Its weird, if i get it past the E74 onto the dash then onto a game, if i turn it of, then back on without cooling it goes to E74!
Its already open anyway! it didnt have the seal in it so i thought screw it,i'll open it! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) lol
I have alot to learn about 360's (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)
any more suggestions would be great!!

Well if it is void already then i would go with the xclamp fix. Including the price of Thermal 5 it will cost about 10-15 bux for the xclamp replacement. or you could support the teams that put all the parts together for you and buy it from them for rather cheap there also.
As i am sure you read up a little about the problem here is a general idea of what is going on.
Your solder points are starting to fail on your gpu/cpu. Heating the board up could possibly cause the solder to make a temp connection, basically long enough to play for a bit. The reason i dont like the heat trick is because it's only temp and could lead to the accidental damage of other components. I am going to go out on a limb and say your box is getting ready to RROD because i was having simular issues right before it crapped. But since you have it open then go far it. Unless operator error occurs then nothing worse could come by replacing those faulty crap clamps.
