Title: Replaced Dvd Not Able To Play Games
Post by: liven56 on December 19, 2007, 03:26:00 PM
Hi, I recently replaced my Xbox 360 DVD Drive.  I replaced it with the exact matching drive.  Now I can’t play games but I can play movies.  Here is the kicker before I realized that I need the key off the old drive but I dumped it the garbage can.  The drive is lost forever.  Is there anything I can do to get the new drive to match the key on the motherboard of the xbox360?  Everything I read on it tells me that is my issue.  Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.  I here this is the place to go to answers to questions like this.

I realize i am a dumb a**

This may be the wrong forums to ask how to get the key. You might want to try the software forums. In any case, don't get rid of the whole thing. As of now, I don't believe there is any way to extract the key from the motherboard, even if you have a 360 hacked to run unsigned code. But I'm fairly confident that with the homebrew scene finally starting up for the 360 that we (and by "we" I mean those genius' that are working on linux for 360) will find a way to read it.

It's a door stop or paper weight now, best thing you can really do with it is sell it for parts to help out on the cost of a new one.

The only thing you can do with that is to use the timing attack to get/change the mb key.  It's a lot of work, but your motherboard is useless without doing it.
