Yesterday, I woke up and after launching my 360, I got the dreadful RRoD. Directly on startup. No freezing, just the RRoD. Reading through the guide, I found out my error code was 0103. Solution? Try the X-clamp method.
The problem is, it sounds and seems to be too complicated for me.
Anyway, today, while discussing this with some friends, a friend told me he heard someone tried a weird method to fix it and it worked. So as soon as I got home, I tried this:
Turn on the 360 and envelop it in 3 or 4 layers of thick covers for 45 minutes.
The 360 becomes VERY VERY hot.
After 45 minutes, unplug everything and place it outside at a cold temperature. If it's not cold outside, place it in the fridge. In the fridge, keep it there for 10 mins. Outside, for 15 mins.
Red Ring of Death solved.
This sounds so stupid but I tried it. And **** me, it worked.
Now my question.
Do you think this is a temp patch? Are chances high for it to happen again? If so, what can I do to make sure it won't happen again. I'm not an expert in opening the xbox or doing similar methods so I'd rather something easy like "install a new fan".
Right now, my xbox is horizontal on a wooden desk (should I put it vertical?).

You will need a reflow or a reball for a more permanent fix, I'm sending mine off to xbox360pros in the morning for a reflow. Similar to you, I have the 0102 error.

Can you link me towards xbox360pros offer to reflow the BGA? I live in Canada though (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) Any feedback? Any hint on what I can do? My 360 is tempered so I can't use my warranty.
I work in a PCB assembly company (Flextronics) so I'd guess someone at the job could help me reflow my BGA. Can you link a thread explaining the steps to reflow the BGA? Maybe I can do it in house ><

EDIT: Beat me to the warranty punch. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) Go to www.xb360reflow.com and/or contact superbee here on the forums, he's in Canada and does reflow/reball service and I personally do recommend him.
