Title: X-clamp Problem Again!

hey guys, sorry for positing another topic but this is reli making me angry, this x-clamp method. i have tighted the screws with two metal washers on the bottom and one nylon on top of the heatsink. i have had several different results when using this method.

1st Result - The Light Turns Green, Flashes constantly and then offs after about 25-30 second mark

2nd Result - 3 RROD but heatsinks are heating up

3rd Result - 3 RROD but then turns 2 Red Lights but heatsinks arent heating up :S

4th Result - 3 RROD then 2 Lights, both heatsinks heating up.

the 4th result seemed promising but in the end, i just got the 3 RROD. im not using Arctic Silver btw, since in the place i live, its rare.

is my xbox gone for good? or should i try another method?

try using the tortuga method

and artic silver makes a hell of a difference too

Defenetly try tortuga's method, it has worked for me the three times I've done it, and it's actually easier once you get the needed hardware since it retains the original heatsink standoffs, so you don't need to worry with all the guesswork associated to how many washers should you use.

And about using artic silver or not, I use that paste, but I think if you use a good quality compund and apply it properly you shouldn't have any problems.

i've heard that the cooler master one is also pretty good, what do you think?

Well, i got some thermal compound for the heatsinks. ive applied them on both heatsinks and have taken out the old paste. when i connect it, i get flashing green lights, then 3RROD then 2 Red Lights but the heatsinks are heating up. am i doing this right? if im not, what am i doing wrong? and whats the master cooling method? please response asap thank you.

the heatsinks heat up? or they heat up pretty good that they almost burn to touch?

well, i cleaned my chips extensively and i can see the xbox logo on both chips and it gives off a chromish finish. i thought maybe if i apply some thermal compound (its just a white heatsink compound, no Arctic silver where i live) it would work. so i cleaned the chips, put the white compound, and screwed in the heatsinks with 2 metal washers on teh bottom and one rubber washer on top of the screws so it can fit onto the heatsink. when i turn it on, it flashes a green light, but i get 3RROD after a few seconds. i touch the heatsinks and they seem pretty hot but i still dont get a Overheating problem :S the heatsinks are reli hot but i still dont get the error. is thre anything im doing wrong guys?

hey guys, im not sure how to edit posts but meh. well what ive done now is that i have used this setup with the screws

Nut - Steel Wash - Rubber = Motherboard - Rubber = Steel Wash = Heatsink

now when i turn it on, i get a green light flashing then an overheating red light error. am i in the right direction? if i am or if im not, can someone suggest improvements? asap because i can request my dad to get the parts needed. Thanks to all of you who helped me  biggrin.gif
