I was playing Halo 3, and the video flickered, then I got a bunch of green lines across the screen, then it went black, audio was still playing.
Turning the console on and off did nothing, there is no video. The thing is there is no RROD either, the lights all flash the normal green, then turn off. If I pull out the video cable, then the lights flash red as expected, but plugging them back in makes the red lights go off.
I was using a VGA cable at the time. Since then I have tried component, and also tried a second TV, smae thing, no video, but still no RROD.
I'd rather try to fix this problem then get a new xbox, I've modded the firmware on this drive, but that was over a year ago and no problems.
Any help is appreciated.

Hi, this problem is related to the 3 red lights, it may start working again by itself but later you will get the red lights, the GPU is loose and causing the display not to show, I had this happen on a unit I had until I x clamped the gpu...I would try it a few times to get the red lights then get it exchnged by ms, or xclamp/penny trick it..

I started playing Halo 3 online and this time it did it some more. I figured it might be the cables (I was using HD component cables) so I bought a VGA cable to hook up to my monitor. Worked ok for a bit but then started doing the same problem. Tried another TV, but no video. Now I don't even see much video at startup.
Like you, I can hear the sound but can't see any picture. I'm also not getting the RRoD.
I read a couple other forums and this seems to be happening more and more -- Microsoft definitely needs to issue another extended warranty for this issue. Why should I have to pay $140 to fix a problem when in fact it was a defective product from the get go? Either issue a recall or extend the warranty -- otherwise, I wouldn't mind a class action lawsuit against these guys.

I know a good bit about the 360 and 3 red lights, and I am not trying to make you think that Halo 3 was the cause of those certain people's problems, but its worth a thought at least right?

Anyway, I was just surprised how there were many people who got 3 red lights after playing halo 3, there were too many for it to be coincidence. Maybe something with the bad discs were somehow pushing the GPU to its limits, overheating it, thus causing the 3RLOD with the fact that those people still have those crappy xclamps? Maybe the extra effort to read the disc caused that error, but to me that should only ruin the laser in the DVD drive, not the GPU, which leads me to believe in the end that its highly possible those 360's failed un-coincidentally.

I just did the x-clamp replacement...cost me around $20 for all the equipment....and I am very proud to say that it worked!!!
I almost died when I put it all back together and it worked....saving me $100 that microsoft would have charged along with waiting a month just to get it back.
If you've had your xbox for a while ( i got mine when it came out) and you have these same issues...i highly recommend doing the xclamp replacement if you also have no warranty.

my 360 is a launch age console and has never suffered from any problems previously, a miracle i know but true
, the other night i had taken it to a friends house and used it on his hdtv, upon hooking it back up to my tv i got the dreaded no video but sound with no red lights at all.i was thinking oh S#@t gonna end up doing the xclamp on it now, which i didnt wanna do as i have a nice crystal clear ghost case with led lighting. I read through this thread and although its in most cases quite accurate, one thing to try was missing.....
what is that i hear you ask....
Try this.....it worked for me
To reset the display settings of the Xbox 360 console to the default settings, follow these steps:1. Remove any discs from the disc tray.
2. Turn the console off.
3. Turn the console on.
Note If you are using an Xbox 360 Wireless Controller, turn the console on by using the Xbox Guide button on the controller.
Note Make sure that you use the player 1 controller when you do this. The player 1 controller is the controller where the upper-left quadrant light is on.
4. As the console starts, press and hold the Y button, and then pull the right trigger at the same time. This causes the Xbox Dashboard to reset the display settings to the default settings and then automatically restarts the console. So it's OK when the Xbox 360 console restarts.
Step 4 isnt too clear but you press Y and the right trigger as soon as your 360 powers up (when the centre green light comes on i mean)
and bobs your auntie, the video returns
