I recently fixed a broken Xbox that, on eBay, was claimed to be working in 'perfect physical and & playing condition.' I removed the x-clamps and did lawdawgs method, and it worked like a charm. However, when I put in Halo 3, I am able to play it for a few minutes, before I hear a beep and see a frozen screen. It has obviously come to my attention that the system is getting too hot...and quite possibly, the RAM as well.
I've searched these boards and I've come up with a culmination of ideas...I basically want to put 2 RAM heatsinks on the visible RAMs, and a heatsink on the Passive/Southbridge chip. I also want to get some extension for a fan to cool it even more, but I've heard bad reviews about the Nyko Intercooler, as well as the Intec Glow Stand...
So I guess I'm just asking, what fans did YOU use that are reliable, will not destroy the console (like the Intercooler from what I've heard), and are relatively quiet? I've heard of the Talismoon fans, but I don't know much about them.
its not that its getting too hot, but when it get hot enough the BGA joints are losing connection. a reflow is the only thing to remedy it. adding more fans probably wont work.

So, basically, would I have to take the fans out and let it run until I get an overheat message, and let that sit for 2 minutes? Because I did that first when I had the 0102 code, and I thought that would've fixed the solder joints...
I was highly considering getting RAM heatsinks, that might help some...or replacing the original fan with a Talismoon fan. Any suggestions?
I bought this off of a company from eBay and I was greatly angered. They said they'd send me a better unit and an extra wireless controller, but, I want to see if I can fix this first.

all i can say is xbox 360's are poorly disigned.
Heh, you speak the truth....my dad even took a look at it, since he works with boards at his workplace.. said that it was designed accurately, but poorly.
