Title: Error 0110 - Xclamp Or Something Else?
Post by: Surray on July 18, 2007, 05:54:00 AM
Hi there
I got the 3 red lights a few days ago.
My 360 started freezing ingame, and sometimes after restarting it it would show me the three red lights, but not always. The longer I try to keep it running the earlier the games freeze, sometimes even at the xbox360 logo when the console boots up.

Anyway, so I looked around here, found the xclamp replacement tutorials, and now I'm wondering if that is the right thing to do here.

My 360 is not totally dead like those of many others who got the RRoD.
I opened up my 360 and I always thought that the problem with the xclamps would be that the heatsinks become loose and cause the error, but my heatsinks aren't loose at all. They're held in place pretty well and I can't move em (didn't try too hard as I dont want do damage anything, but anyway..).

So I'm wondering, could it be just the GPU Memory that is the problem?
Is there something else I could try that could work?
Like that rubber eraser on the graphics memory thing? Or is that only temporary?

I would not recommend you do the eraser fix that will only cause more damage in the long run IMO. If you are after a quick simple fix you could try the 3 penny fix.

I would recommend you replace the x-clamp's using either RBJTech or lawdawg's method. Replacing the thermal paste with Arctic silver 5. Also put some thermal pads/gap filler on your gpu memory on both chips under the gpu h/s and the four chip on the underside of the motherboard.

Then do a few of the cooling mods... RBJTech's fan shroud mod is good... and the 12v fan mod is also good if you don't mind the noise  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

heh thanks

I'd try the 3 penny fix but i'm from austria, no pennies here :-)

Getting the right parts for an xclamp replacement is kind of a challenge as well, so I was hoping that there would be an easy way to do this, but I guess there isn't :/

I'll definitely try out some cooling mod after doing something against that RRoD!

I think people from europe use 2 cents coin. Check out the thread here
But if you can find the parts for the x-clamp replacement do that instead

Thanks man!

I just did the 3 penny fix with 2 euro cents instead of the pennies and it appears to have worked on first try.
Been playing Dead Rising for about half an hour now without a freeze. Before this it would freeze after 10 minutes at most and give me a 0110 rrod after that for a minute.

No problem glad it's working for you. You should still try and find the bits to do the x-clamp replacement if you got the time... it's a way better fix.
