Title: Disc Tray Won't Stay Closed... Help!
Post by: jdtoledo on May 17, 2007, 11:01:00 PM
whenever I put a disc in the tray, and I mean any disc, DVD, game, Music CD... whatever, I close the tray, the green lights blink a bit, but then it just opens the tray without even looking at the disk. It functions fine for online or arcade play, but any time a disc is inserted it will sit in the drive for about a second and then eject it. I removed the front cover from the drive and did the best I could to check for a jam, something loose, or something simply in the way that would cause the drive to do that but it all seems to be intact.
Even leaving the disc in and powering down doesn't work, the system will actually power off then eject the drive tray. I've tried it positioned vertically and horizontally as well, still no luck. But one thing that I tried to my dismay was i pry the tray with a disc in it and then it read the game and it worked for every disc except for my original game disc, but it's so noisy. I forgot to mention it all started when I used my orig game and that is my only orig game and i just got it from play-asia. the first time I used it i heard random noises from the tray, it continued doing that but the game was working. I left the game inside the system turned it off the next day i turned the 360 on and then a loud noise just came out from the tray. I ejected the tray and then close it and then my burden begun there it will close for a second and it will open by itself.
help!!!!!!

plz don't be double posting and waste forum space if your drive load dvd, cd and games whn u hold the drive in that mean that its a mechnical problem and i recommend that you loose down the drive take out the tay and put it back what might be better is to take the entire drive apart in peice clean it out clean the lens and assembly it back if the dirve reading dvd and cd but not game thn that a firmware problem if you have flashed your fimrware already try reverting to the orignal and then updating back to the newest firmware if u want the hacked firmware on it if u don't want the hacked firmware just use the original

my xbox has done this for about three months. i finally got tired of it and took it apart to see what is happening. inside the disc drive there is a white plastic guide track that makes the disc lift up and down when eject and close the tray. it has 2 grooves that are shaped like an z that raises and lowers the laser and disc spinner. what mine was doing, was whenever you close the tray the laser and disc spinner wasnt going up high enough to pick up the disk and trigger the switch to indicate that the laser and spinner is all the way up. to fix the problem i first removed the white plastic track guide and cleaned it. then where the tracks slide along the z groove. when you open your tray the laser and disk guide should be all the way to bottom of the z groove. when trying to close the tray and go to the top it will get hung in the top bend of the z. i used a dremel to remove the sharp coner on the topside of the z groove. i then re greased the groove, reinserted it into the drive and put it back in my xbox and it works like new
