The Hitaachi and Samsung bothuse the same lasers, any of the SF-HD6x ones will work.

Did you remember to remove the Anti-Static solder joint before installing the new laser?

What was the drives original problem?

What type of discs have you tried?

Does the spindle motor spin freely?

By asking if the spindle motor was movingg freely, I mean take the cover off the drive and spin the spindle with your finger, it should make at least a couple of revolutions on it's own after you spin it. The motors in the Hitachi drives seem to get all gummed up and it may just need to be taken apart and cleaned, but do that ONLY if it feels like it's hard to spin or draging on something.

First the motor needs to be unplugged from the logic board, the big green board. There are 3 screws under the motor that hold it in place, the 2 outside ones have springs on them, so be careful not to loose them, and those screws need to be marked and put back in the same posistion since they control the tilt/height of the disc. Once they're out, push the laser assembly back a little ways and the motor will come right out, then the top of it just pulls off and you can clean and relubricate it.

Some type of light machine oil, 3in1 oil or something similar, do NOT use WD-40 or anything like that.

I doubt you have 3 bad lasers, but the laser isn't going to do any good if the disc doesn't spin either.

If the motor spins freely and the laser is new, then I'd say you have either a loose connection somewhere, or the drive has up and died on ya, which is weird but can happen from time to time, that is unless during the course of cutting your window something happened to it.

Can a bad SATA cable also cause discs to be unreadable?

The person who i've bought the 360 from tampered with the console and just ****** up everything he can get his hands on, and the SATA cable looks to be in bad shape.

I'll try getting some pics up sometime.

No offense, but that's kind of a "no brainer" question. If I had a flat tire and asked if it would change the way the car drove that would be about on par with that question. wink.gif If ya have any SATA cable with the same ends, swap it out and see what results ya get. It doesn't have to have right angle ends like the one in it is, but ya will not be able to set the drive in the 360 if they're straight ends, but that's fine since you're only testing it.

Thats not what I meant tongue.gif

Its not as bad as described, its the part of the cable that connects to the dvd drive that bothers me. Goddamn digital camera isnt working but it looks like the connector was bitten/chewed by a little kid blink.gif (you get the idea), and im pretty sure thats not how the normal one looks like uhh.gif

Also, I dont have any spare SATA cables lying around so I guess im ****** in that sense aswell?  sad.gif

unplugging and plugging the ribbon cable in the laser can f**k up the little pins on the end of the cable...look and see if any pins are messed up

As long as the connectors in the actual end aren't messed up and the rest of the cable is still intact it should be OK, really depends on the damage that was done. If it's just external it shouldn't make a bit of difference at all.
