Title: Xbox 360 Dvd To Pc Question...
Post by: FrostyTheSnowman on May 06, 2007, 10:21:00 PM
I found this diagram earlier tonight when I was searching for ways to power my XBOX 360 DVD drive from my PC, but what I am wondering is, can I leave out the eject circuitry and ONLY have the 12v, 5v, and 3.3v lines connected and have the drive work properly?

I don't care about being able to eject, I just simply want to power on the drive from the PC. (for firmware flashing purposes)

EDIT: Well, the REAL question I have is WHY does this diagram insist on using a SPDT switch to supply either 3.3v or GND to the EJECT line? The XBOX 360's DVD drive only uses a MOMENTARY switch to ground the eject line, but nowhere does it say that 3.3v on the eject line is necessary for anything... this is my real question, as 3.3v on the eject line worries me...

Hi!
I use a convertor from www.diyagadget.com, works fine and is cheap.. Only thing is I had to put my own On/off switch on it, but that's because a flash a lot of drives, and a button works better than connecting and disconnecting cables..

The reason ya need a SPDT switch is so the Eject line stays at 3.3v or is Grounded at all times. If it were left to 'float' there could be problems. The 360 switch isn't setup the exact same way, it uses a 10k Resistor to 3.3v to 'pull up' the Eject line to 3.3v, then when you press the Eject button it grounds out and pulls the line low to Eject/Close. It's essentially the same thing as using the SPDT switch when ya go making your own power adapter.
